Description

Title of the invention: CHIMNEY BOX Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to a chimney box which can be implemented, in particular, in the context of the renovation of an existing flue, as well as a chimney comprising such a box. STATE OF THE PRIOR ART

[0002] In older buildings, a chimney flue leads to a chimney which is usually on the roof of the building. Older heating systems usually operate with natural draft, meaning that the heating system is connected to a flue which channels the combustion products, and where the flue is made of masonry and goes to the outside of the living space.

[0003] New heating systems generally operate with a pressurized draft and require a pipe that runs from the heating system to the chimney through the conduit.

[0004] When renovating a house, for example, it is possible to introduce a pipe into the conduit to connect a heating installation and adapt the chimney to this new installation.

[0005] However, in the case of a collective installation, it is not possible to have both natural draft heating installations and pressurized draft heating installations because the chimney is not suitable for such an installation. It is therefore necessary to change all the installations at the same time. Statement of the invention

[0006] An object of the present invention is to provide a fireplace box which allows different technologies to be used for the same fireplace.

[0007] For this purpose, a box is proposed for a chimney comprising a stack and a cap, said box comprising:

[0008] - a side wall crossed by at least one window, where said side wall forms a conduit open at both ends, where the lower end forms a base intended to be fixed to the top of the stump, where the upper end forms a seat on which a lower part of the cap is intended to be fixed, where the base delimits a lower opening and where the seat delimits an upper opening, and

[0009] - for each window, a hatch removably fixed to the side wall.

[0010] Advantageously, the fixing of each hatch to the side wall is watertight.

[0011] The invention also provides a chimney comprising:

[0012] - a stump delimiting at least one chimney flue,

[0013] - a hat comprising an opening in the lower part, and

[0014] - a box according to one of the preceding variants, where the base is fixed to the top of the stump, where the lower part of the cap is fixed to the seat, where the lower opening is fluidly connected to the chimney flue(s) delimited by the stump and where the upper opening is fluidly connected to the opening of the cap.

[0015] Advantageously, the chimney comprises at least one pipe housed in said at least one chimney flue, and a first end of the or each pipe is intended to be fluidically connected to a combustion source and a second end is fluidically connected to one of the windows and fixed to the side wall corresponding to said window.

[0016] Advantageously, the or each pipe which is fixed at a window opens outside the side wall via a terminal nose. Brief description of the drawings

[0017] The above-mentioned features of the invention, as well as others, will appear more clearly on reading the following description of an exemplary embodiment, said description being made in relation to the attached drawings, among which:

[0018] [Fig-1] shows a perspective view of a chimney equipped with a box according to the invention, and

[0019] [Fig.2] shows a sectional view of the chimney of [Fig.l] through the vertical plane P.

[0020] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS

[0021] [Fig.l] shows a chimney 100 according to the invention and which comprises a stack 102, a cap 104 above the stack 102 and a box 110 between the stack 102 and the cap 104.

[0022] Conventionally, the stack 102 is mounted on a roof and delimits the different chimney flues which go to the different combustion sources, such as boilers, open or closed fireplaces, etc.

[0023] [Fig.2] shows the chimney 100 in section.

[0024] The stump 102 delimits at least one chimney flue 202a-b where each leads to one or more fireplaces. The stump 102 is made in a conventional manner, for example by masonry in bricks or other.

[0025] The cap 104 comprises in the lower part an opening 106 in fluid communication with the chimney conduits 202a-b of the stack 102, and in the upper part a cover 108 which prevents the entry of rainwater into the chimney 100. The cap 104 also has between the opening 106 and the cover 108, gaps 109 which allow the smoke arriving through the opening 106 to pass horizontally.

[0026] In the event of renovation of at least one fireplace operating with the chimney 100, a box 110 is interposed between the stump 102 and the cap 104.

[0027] The box 110 comprises a side wall 110a which forms a conduit open at its two ends, that is to say that the side wall 110a is closed on itself leaving the ends open.

[0028] The lower end of the box 110 forms a base 110b which is fixed to the top of the stump 102 and where the upper end of the box 110 forms a seat 110c on which the lower part of the cap 104 is fixed.

[0029] The base 110b delimits a lower opening 112a and the seat 110c delimits an upper opening 112b. The lower opening 112a is in fluid continuity with the or each chimney duct 202a-b delimited by the stub 102, that is to say fluidly connected to said chimney duct(s) 202a-b. The upper opening 112b is in fluid continuity with the opening 106 of the cap 104, that is to say fluidly connected to said opening 106. The lower opening 112a and the upper opening 112b are inscribed in generally horizontal planes.

[0030] The shape of the side wall 110a is adapted to the shape of the stack 102 so as to ensure that the fumes which pass into the stack 102 are captured by the lower opening 112a.

[0031] The shape of the side wall 110a is adapted to the shape of the cap 104 so as to ensure that the fumes which pass through the upper opening 112b are captured by the opening 106 of the cap 104 to reach the cap 104 and its interstices 109.

[0032] The fixing of the base 110b to the stub 102 and the fixing of the seat 110c to the cap 104 are carried out by any suitable means such as screws.

[0033] The side wall 110a, which extends vertically, comprises at least one hatch 114 removably attached to the side wall 110a by any suitable attachment means. A fastening is said to be removable when the hatch 114 can be separated from the side wall 110a without damaging either.

[0034] The or each hatch 114 closes a window 116 passing through the side wall 110a. Thus, for each window 116, there is a hatch 114.

[0035] Thus, when a natural draft combustion source is replaced by a pressurized draft combustion source, a pipe 204 is installed in the chimney 100 and the corresponding chimney flue 202a-b with a first end of the pipe 204 fluidly connected to said combustion source and a second end of the pipe 204 fluidly connected to one of the windows 116 and fixed to the side wall 110a corresponding to said window 116. When a pipe 204 is fixed at a window 116, the hatch 114 closing said window 116 is removed.

[0036] Thus, thanks to this installation, it is possible to renovate only part of the combustion sources that the chimney 100 serves, since the new installations pass through the pipes 204 and the old installations continue to pass through the cap 104, and this without it being necessary to modify the stack 102 and the cap 104.

[0037] The smoke outlets from the pipes 204 then escape to the sides and more particularly here horizontally.

[0038] To limit the loss of smoke through the windows 116 when they are not in use, the attachment of each hatch 114 to the side wall 110a is sealed, for example by the installation of a seal between the hatch 114 and the side wall 110a.

[0039] Each pipe 204 which is fixed at the level of a window 116, opens here outside the side wall 110a via a terminal nose 206.
