Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Vertical pivot door for motor vehicle
[0001] The technical context of the present invention is that of motor vehicle openings, and in particular the safety devices making it possible to guarantee the physical integrity of the occupants in the event of an accident. More particularly, the invention relates to a vertical pivot door for a motor vehicle.
[0002] Generally speaking, a motor vehicle has several side doors, each side door being framed by a pillar which connects a chassis to a roof panel of the motor vehicle.
[0003] The invention is limited here to vertical pivot doors, that is to say those which are mounted to rotate around a vertical or substantially vertical axis.
[0004] In the event of a side impact on the motor vehicle, the side doors, resting on the structure of the motor vehicle, are put under stress: they undergo deformations which can be significant depending on the intensity and location of the impact.
[0005] As is known, the side doors include reinforcement pieces which are intended to limit intrusions into the passenger compartment and thus preserve the survival space for the occupants. In particular, such reinforcement pieces generally include:
[0006] - a diagonal door reinforcement located in the upper part. Such a high diagonal reinforcement extends from back to front of the door. It is usually welded to the door lining and bears on both the center pillar of the motor vehicle and the door lining;
[0007] - a low diagonal door reinforcement located in the lower part. Such a low diagonal reinforcement extends from back to front of the door. It is usually welded to the door lining and rests on both the central pillar of the motor vehicle and the side member.
[0008] These reinforcement pieces are essential, during an impact, to maintain the support of the doors on their frame. Indeed, it is essential to maintain such support because in the event of a failure of this support, intrusions into the passenger compartment are then possible and the safety of the occupants is greatly reduced.
[0009] However, during a side impact with a motor vehicle having a high ride height, for example of the SUV or 4x4 type, the lower diagonal reinforcement and the upper diagonal reinforcement are stressed at the same time. If the lower diagonal reinforcement is supported on two structural elements sufficiently robust to ensure the maintenance of the door supports, in this case the central pillar and the side member - the upper diagonal reinforcement is, on the other hand, supported on a single robust element - the central pillar. Its other support, the door lining, is an element of low mechanical resistance.
[0010] This usual design thus leads to the wrinkling of the door lining at the level of the support area of the upper reinforcement. This crumpling causes the support of the lower diagonal reinforcement and / or the side member to slide and, ultimately, the side door to escape due to the support of the lower reinforcement and / or the side member to escape.
[0011] This configuration is not desired.
[0012] The object of the present invention is to propose a new vertical pivot door in order to respond at least to a large extent to the preceding problems and to further lead to other advantages.
[0013] According to a first aspect of the invention, at least one of the aforementioned objectives is achieved with a vertical pivot door for a motor vehicle, the door comprising a door lining pivotally mounted relative to a chassis of the motor vehicle and a door opening control, the opening control being associated with a longitudinal edge of the door lining.
[0014] According to the invention, the door comprises a retractable indexing device associated with a lower edge of the door lining and configured to:
[0015] - take a retracted configuration in which the indexing device establishes a mechanical coupling with the frame located below the door when said door is closed; and
[0016] - take a retracted configuration in which the indexing device is disengaged from the frame located below the door when said door is open.
[0017] In the context of the present invention, a longitudinal axis, a lateral axis and a vertical axis are defined relative to the motor vehicle on which the door according to the first aspect of the invention is intended to be mounted. More particularly, the transverse axis is understood as a direction taken between a lateral side of the motor vehicle and an opposite lateral side of said motor vehicle. In other words, the transverse axis is understood as a direction which extends from a passenger side of the motor vehicle to a driver's side of said motor vehicle, or vice versa. The adjectives lateral, interior and exterior refer to such a transverse axis. Furthermore, the longitudinal axis extends as being taken along a direction which extends from front to rear or from rear to front of the motor vehicle. The longitudinal axis is perpendicular to the transverse axis. The adjectives frontal, front and rear refer to this longitudinal axis.Finally, the vertical axis is understood to be taken along an axis which extends from the wheels of the motor vehicle and towards the roof of said motor vehicle, or vice versa, the vertical axis being simultaneously perpendicular to the transverse axis and to the longitudinal axis. The adjectives above and below, or lower and upper refer to this vertical axis.
[0018] In the context of the present invention, the vertical pivot door is a side door of the motor vehicle, swinging, which turns on itself around an axis of rotation which is oriented along the vertical axis or in a manner substantially parallel to the vertical axis. The vertical pivot door is thus distinguished from a sliding door which does not pivot, or from a butterfly door which pivots around a longitudinal axis.
[0019] Preferably, although not limiting of the invention, the pivot door is a rear door of the motor vehicle, housed between a central pillar and a rear pillar of the motor vehicle.
[0020] In the context of the present invention, the door lining is a wall that extends across the longitudinal uprights of the door. It provides the door with the mechanical strength necessary for its operation and for the protection of the occupants of the passenger compartment. The door lining is reinforced by reinforcement pieces in order to limit or even prevent any perforation or excessive sinking of the door into the passenger compartment. The door lining is made of metal.
[0021] In the context of the present invention, the door opening control makes it possible to control the door, and to configure it in a closed configuration in which the door is completely coupled to the chassis of the motor vehicle - that is to say at several points other than the vertical pivot connection - and blocks access to the passenger compartment, or in an opening configuration in which the door is pivoted so as to allow access to the passenger compartment. In this case, the coupling with the chassis of the motor vehicle is limited to the vertical pivot. The door opening control is located on the longitudinal edge of the door, that is to say the front longitudinal edge or the rear longitudinal edge, opposite one of the pillars of the motor vehicle.
[0022] In the context of the present invention, the retractable indexing device is configured to collaborate with the chassis of the motor vehicle, and more particularly - but not exclusively - with a lateral side member of said motor vehicle. In the context of the present invention, the lateral side member forms a prismatic bearing surface which extends relative to the longitudinal axis of the motor vehicle, at each lateral edge of said motor vehicle. The lateral side members form structural elements of the motor vehicle to which other parts of the motor vehicle are attached. The lateral side members thus make it possible to provide the rigidity necessary for the operation of the motor vehicle, during driving sequences, but also in the event of an accident in order to transmit the forces resulting from said impact towards absorption devices or towards running gear of the motor vehicle for example.Thus, the indexing device is configured to achieve a mechanical coupling with the lateral side member located below the door when the latter is closed, or more generally with a part of the chassis of the motor vehicle located below the door when the latter is closed, called the coupling part. On the other hand, when the door is configured in its open configuration, then the indexing device is uncoupled from the coupling part of the chassis located below and opposite the door.
[0023] Thus, the door according to the first aspect of the invention solves the technical problem of the present invention in that it makes it possible to reinforce the rigidity of the door when it is closed, and adding an additional anchoring point, that is to say an additional mechanical coupling point - with the coupling part of the frame located directly below the door, and in particular the corresponding lateral side member.
[0024] The door according to the first aspect of the invention advantageously comprises at least one of the improvements below, the technical characteristics forming these improvements being able to be taken alone or in combination:
[0025] - the indexing device comprises an indexing pin movable in translation and constrained by a force generator generating a non-zero thrust on the indexing pin so as to push it towards a complementary housing arranged on a frame rail located below the door. The indexing pin forms a movable member making it possible to establish the mechanical coupling with the coupling part of the frame located opposite, when said indexing pin is retracted, or to disengage the mechanical coupling between the door and the coupling part of the frame located opposite - at a lower edge of the door - when the indexing pin is retracted. The movement of the indexing pin between these two configurations is controlled by the force generator. The force generator can be of any type. It can be motorized, i.e. active, or it can be passive, i.e. non-motorized. By way of non-limiting example, the generator can be of the type of a jack or a compression spring;
[0026] - advantageously, the force generator of the indexing device is coupled to the door opening control, such that (i) when the opening control is actuated to open the door, the indexing pin is extracted from the complementary housing provided on the side member located below the door, and (ii) when the opening control is actuated to close the door, the indexing pin is engaged in the complementary housing provided on the side member located below the door. This advantageous configuration makes it possible to synchronize the operation of the indexing device, and more particularly the movement of the indexing pin, with the door opening control. By way of non-limiting example, the indexing pin is connected to the door opening control by a control cable;
[0027] - according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the indexing device is type of roller lock. In the context of the present invention, the roller lock comprises (i) a main body forming a housing for the indexing pin, (ii) a coupling interface configured to allow a connection - i.e. an electronic or mechanical interface - with the door opening control, (iii) a bolt movable in translation in the main body, the bolt forming the indexing pin, (iv) a spring located at an axial end of the bolt housed in the main body, said spring extending between the main body and the bolt so as to generate a non-zero thrust force on said bolt causing the bolt to be extracted from the main body, and (v) a roller located at a terminal end of the bolt opposite the spring, the roller extending transversely to an elongation of the bolt, so as to allow linear contact between the indexing pin and the coupling part of the chassis of the motor vehicle located opposite the roller lock;
[0028] - as a non-limiting example, the coupling interface of the roller lock includes a member for attaching the control cable for the door opening control;
[0029] - as a non-limiting example, the bolt takes the form of a cylinder with a profile circular which extends into the main body;
[0030] - the coupling part of the chassis located below and opposite the lock to roller forms a housing in which the indexing pin is housed when the door is configured in its closed state, and from which said indexing pin is extracted when the door is configured in its open configuration. The housing is preferably arranged on the side rail located below the indexing device and opposite the indexing pin.
[0031] - the housing in which the indexing pin is housed when the door is configured in its closed state has a circumferential recess formed on a peripheral wall of said housing, the indexing pin having a “C” profile at its free end, so as to be able to collaborate with the circumferential recess. In other words, the indexing pin - or even the bolt of the roller lock - has a circumferential groove which extends over all or part of a peripheral contour of the indexing pin at its free end located opposite the spring;
[0032] - the circumferential recess and the “C” profile of the indexing pin collaborate assemblies by engagement of complementary shapes, said circumferential recess and said “C” profile together forming a member for retaining the indexing pin in the complementary housing.
[0033] According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a motor vehicle comprising at least one side door in accordance with the first aspect of the invention or according to any of its improvements.
[0034] Various embodiments of the invention are provided, integrating according to all of their possible combinations the different optional characteristics set out here.
[0035] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description on the one hand, and of several examples of embodiment given for informational and non-limiting purposes with reference to the attached schematic drawings on the other hand, in which:

[0042] Of course, the features, variants and different embodiments of the invention may be combined with each other, in various combinations, provided that they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, variants of the invention may be imagined comprising only a selection of features described below in isolation from the other features described, if this selection of features is sufficient to confer a technical advantage or to differentiate the invention from the prior art.
[0043] In particular, all the variants and all the embodiments described can be combined with each other if nothing prevents this combination from a technical point of view.
[0044] In the figures, the elements common to several figures retain the same reference.
[0045] In the description of the FIGURES which follows, a longitudinal axis, a lateral axis and a vertical axis are defined relative to the motor vehicle 2 on which the pivot door 1 according to the invention is intended to be mounted.
[0046] More particularly, the transverse axis is understood as a direction taken between a lateral side of the motor vehicle 2 and an opposite lateral side of said motor vehicle 2. In other words, the transverse axis is understood in a direction which extends from a passenger side of the motor vehicle 2 towards a driver side. of said motor vehicle 2, or vice versa. The adjectives lateral, interior and exterior refer to such a transverse axis.
[0047] Furthermore, the longitudinal axis extends as taken along a direction that extends from front to rear or from back to front of the motor vehicle 2. The longitudinal axis is perpendicular to the transverse axis. The adjectives frontal, front and rear refer to this longitudinal axis.
[0048] Finally, the vertical axis is understood as being taken along an axis which extends from the wheels of the motor vehicle 2 and towards the roof of said motor vehicle 2, or vice versa, the vertical axis being simultaneously perpendicular to the transverse axis and to the longitudinal axis. The adjectives above and below, or lower and upper refer to this vertical axis.
[0049] With reference to FIGURES 1 to 3, the invention relates to a vertical pivot door 1 for a motor vehicle 2, the door comprising a door lining 11 pivotally mounted relative to a chassis of the motor vehicle 2 and an opening control 12 for the door, the opening control 12 being associated with a longitudinal edge 111 of the door lining 11.
[0050] According to the invention, the pivot door 1 comprises a retractable indexing device 13 associated with a lower edge 112 of the door lining 11 and configured to:
[0051] - take a retracted configuration in which the indexing device 13 establishes a mechanical coupling with the frame located below the pivot door 1 when said pivot door 1 is closed; and
[0052] - take a retracted configuration in which the indexing device 13 is disengaged from the frame located below the pivot door 1 when said pivot door 1 is open.
[0053] The vertical pivot door 1 is a side door of the motor vehicle 2, swinging, configured to be able to rotate on itself around an axis of rotation which is oriented along the vertical axis or in a manner substantially parallel to the vertical axis.
[0054] The pivot door 1 is configured in its open or closed configuration by means of the opening control 12 which is associated with the front longitudinal edge 111 or the rear longitudinal edge 111 of the pivot door 1. Typically, the door opening control 12 collaborates with a front pillar, a central pillar 22 or a rear pillar of the motor vehicle 2.
[0055] The retractable indexing device 13 makes it possible to reinforce the connection of the pivot door 1 with the chassis of the motor vehicle 2, in its lower part, when the pivot door 1 is closed. In particular, the indexing device 13 is configured to collaborate with the chassis of the motor vehicle 2, and more particularly with a lateral side member 231 of said motor vehicle 2 located below the pivot door 1, when pivot door 1 is closed.
[0056] On the other hand, when the pivot door 1 is configured in its open configuration, then the indexing device 13 is uncoupled from the coupling part 23 of the frame located below and opposite the pivot door 1.
[0057] The indexing device 13 comprises an indexing pin 132 movable in translation and constrained by a force generator 133 generating a non-zero thrust on the indexing pin 132 so as to push it towards a complementary housing 234 arranged on a side member of the chassis located below the pivot door 1. The indexing pin 132 forms a movable member - relative to the vertical axis - and making it possible to establish the mechanical coupling with the coupling part 23 of the chassis located opposite, when said indexing pin 132 is retracted, or to disengage the mechanical coupling between the pivot door 1 and the coupling part 23 of the chassis located opposite - at a lower edge 112 of the pivot door 1 - when the indexing pin 132 is retracted.
[0058] The movement of the indexing pin 132 between these two configurations is controlled by the force generator 133. The force generator 133 can be of any type. It can be motorized, i.e. active, or it can be passive, i.e. non-motorized. By way of non-limiting example, the generator can be of the type of a jack or a compression spring.
[0059] Advantageously, the force generator 133 of the indexing device 13 is coupled to the opening control 12 of the pivot door 1, so that:
[0060] - when the opening control 12 is actuated to open the pivot door 1, the indexing pin 132 is extracted from the complementary housing 234 provided on the side member located below the pivot door 1, and
[0061] - when the opening control 12 is actuated to close the pivot door 1, the indexing pin 132 is engaged in the complementary housing 234 provided on the side member located below the pivot door 1.
[0062] By way of non-limiting example, the indexing pin 132 is connected to the opening control 12 of the pivot door 1 by a control cable not shown in the FIGURES.
[0063] With reference to [Fig.2], the indexing device 13 is of the type of a roller lock 130 comprising:
[0064] - a main body 131 forming a housing 234 for the indexing pin 132,
[0065] - a coupling interface configured to allow a connection - i.e. an electronic or mechanical interface - with the opening control 12 of the pivot door 1,
[0066] - a bolt movable in translation in the main body 131, the bolt forming the pin indexing 132. The bolt takes the form of a cylinder with a circular profile 135 which extends into the main body 131;
[0067] - a spring located at an axial end of the bolt housed in the body main body 131, said spring extending between the main body 131 and the bolt so as to generate a non-zero thrust force on said bolt causing the bolt to be extracted from the main body 131, and
[0068] - a roller 134 located at a terminal end of the bolt opposite the spring, the roller 134 extending transversely to an elongation of the bolt, so as to allow linear contact between the indexing pin 132 and the coupling part 23 of the chassis of the motor vehicle 2 located opposite the roller lock 130.
[0069] The roller lock 130 is fixed to the door lining 11 by fixing means 137, such as for example fixing screws. In particular, as recalled previously, the roller lock 130 - and more generally the indexing device 13 - is fixed integrally to a lower part of the door lining 11, so that an axis of the indexing pin 132 - or an axis of the bolt of the roller lock 130 - is oriented vertically or substantially vertically.
[0070] The coupling portion 23 of the frame located below and opposite the roller lock 130 comprises a striker 233 which forms a housing 234 in which the indexing pin 132 is housed when the pivot door 1 is configured in its closed state, and from which said indexing pin 132 is extracted when the pivot door 1 is configured in its open configuration. The housing 234 is preferably arranged on the lateral longitudinal member 231 located below the indexing device 13 and opposite the indexing pin 132.
[0071] The housing 234 in which the indexing pin 132 is housed when the pivot door 1 is configured in its closed state comprises a circumferential recess formed on a peripheral wall of said housing 234, the indexing pin 132 comprising a hook-shaped profile 135, i.e. a “C” at its free end, so as to be able to collaborate with the circumferential recess. In other words, the bolt of the roller lock 130 comprises a circumferential groove which extends over all or part of a peripheral contour of the indexing pin 132 at its free end located opposite the spring.
[0072] The circumferential recess and the “C” profile 135 of the indexing pin 132 are configured to be able to collaborate together by engagement of complementary shapes, said circumferential recess and said “C” profile 135 together forming a member for retaining the indexing pin 132 in the complementary housing 234.
[0073] With reference to FIGURES 4 to 6, several behavioral kinematics of the pivot door 1 according to the invention will now be described.
[0074] [Fig.4] illustrates different stages of closing a pivot door 1 according to the invention, the vignettes (A), (B) and (C) illustrating three successive stages of the roller lock 130 equipping the pivot door 1 during the closing of said pivot door 1.
[0075] The vignette (A) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 when the position of the pivot door 1 is open: the bolt of the roller lock 130 is completely uncoupled - that is to say disengaged - from the striker 233 located opposite. In fact, the door is connected to the chassis of the motor vehicle 2 via the pivot connection. The arrow shown in the vignette (A) illustrates the movement of the pivot door 1 and the roller lock 130 towards the striker 233 during closing.
[0076] The thumbnail (B) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 when the pivot door 1 is closing. The roller lock 130 moves towards the strike plate 233, as indicated by the left-pointing arrow in the thumbnail (B). A lower end of the bolt, the one where the roller 134 is located, then comes into contact with the coupling part 23 of the frame located opposite the roller lock 130. More particularly, it is the roller 134 itself which comes into contact with the coupling part 23 of the frame - or even with the lateral side member 231. As the bolt is movable in translation in the main body 131 of the roller lock 130, the bolt is retracted into the main body 131 - the compression spring contracting so as not to block the translational movement of the bolt in the main body 131, and so as not to hinder the advancement of the roller lock 130 in the direction of the striker 233.
[0077] The vignette (C) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 when the pivot door 1 is completely closed. The bolt is housed in the strike plate 233 which forms a housing 234 for it. Under the effect of the spring housed in the main body 131, the bolt is retracted and falls back into the strike plate 233, so that a lower end of the bolt, the one where the roller 134 is located, is engaged in the strike plate 233 and thus locks the pivot door 1 - at its lower part - on the coupling part 23 of the frame located opposite.
[0078] [Fig. 5] illustrates different stages of opening a pivot door 1 according to the invention, the vignettes (D), (E) and (F) illustrating three successive stages of the roller lock 130 equipping the pivot door 1 during the opening of said pivot door 1.
[0079] The vignette (D) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 when the pivot door 1 is completely closed. The bolt is housed in the strike plate 233 which forms a housing 234 for it. Under the effect of the spring housed in the main body 131, the bolt is retracted into the strike plate 233, so that a lower end of the bolt, the one where the roller 134 is located, is engaged in the strike plate 233 and thus locks the pivot door 1 - at its lower part - on the coupling part 23 of the frame located opposite.
[0080] The vignette (E) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 when the control opening control 12 of the pivot door 1 is actuated to be able to open said pivot door 1. The connection between the opening control 12 and the roller lock 130 - in the form for example of a cable not shown here - leads to a tensile force on the bolt, causing the latter to rise in the main body 131. Under the effect of such a force, the compression spring compresses and thus allows the vertical movement of the bolt in the main body 131. As a result, the lower end of the bolt, the one where the roller 134 is located, disengages from the strike plate 233: the roller lock 130 is no longer coupled to the coupling part 23 of the frame located opposite, and the pivot door 1 can now pivot freely.
[0081] The vignette (F) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 during such an opening pivot of the pivot door 1. The pivot door 1 opens and the lower part of the pivot door 1 detaches from the coupling part 23 of the frame located opposite, as indicated by the arrow. The roller 134 of the roller lock 130 slides on the coupling part 23 or on the side rail 231. When the bolt comes out of the coupling part 23 located opposite and / or the side rail 231, the force generated by the spring pushes the bolt downwards, so that the bolt retracts again out of the main body 131.
[0082] [Fig.6] illustrates the behavior of a pivot door 1 according to the invention during a side impact, the vignettes (G), (H) and (I) illustrating three successive stages of the roller lock 130 during such a side impact.
[0083] The vignette (G) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 when a lateral impact occurs on the pivot door 1, symbolized here by a cloud on the left part of the vignette (G). Obviously, it is considered that the occurrence of this impact occurs in a closed state of the pivot door 1, the bolt being retracted into the strike plate 233, so that a lower end of the bolt, the one where the roller 134 is located, is engaged in the strike plate 233 and thus locks the pivot door 1 - at its lower part - on the coupling part 23 of the frame located opposite.
[0084] The vignette (H) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 shortly after the occurrence of the impact. Under the effect of the impact, the pivot door 1 is pushed in and causes - at its lower part - a displacement of the roller lock 130, as indicated on the vignette (H) by an arrow. This displacement takes the form of a displacement towards the interior of the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle 2. This displacement is obviously complex, and corresponds for example to a combination of a rotational movement and a translational movement, at the level of the roller lock 130.
[0085] The vignette (I) illustrates the state of the roller lock 130 during movement of the lower part of the pivot door 1 under the effect of the mechanical stresses which propagate therein following the impact. Cleverly, the “C” profile 135 of the The bolt of the roller lock 130 engages in the circumferential recess which is arranged on the part of the striker 233 located on the inner side of said striker 233, that is to say on the passenger compartment side. This engagement of the lower end of the bolt in the circumferential recess 235 thus leads to retaining the lower part of the pivot door 1, despite the stresses and deformations caused by the lateral impact. Thus, the pivot door 1 remains blocked at the level of the striker 233, reducing, or even preventing, an escape of the pivot door 1 and an intrusion into the passenger compartment.
[0086] Occupant safety is greatly improved by the invention.
[0087] In summary, the invention relates to a vertical pivot door 1 for a motor vehicle 2, the pivot door 1 comprising:
[0088] - a door lining 11 pivotally mounted relative to a chassis of the vehicle at car 2;
[0089] - an opening control 12 of the door, the opening control 12 being associated with a longitudinal edge 111 of the door lining 11;
[0090] - a retractable indexing device 13 associated with a lower edge 112 of the door lining 11 and configured to assume a retracted configuration in which the indexing device 13 establishes a mechanical coupling with the frame located below the door when said door is closed, and assume a retracted configuration in which the indexing device 13 is disengaged from the frame located below the door when said door is open. The indexing device 13 is preferably of the type of a roller lock 130.
[0091] Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples which have just been described and numerous adjustments can be made to these examples without departing from the scope of the invention. In particular, the different characteristics, forms, variants and embodiments of the invention can be associated with each other in various combinations insofar as they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, all the variants and embodiments described above can be combined with each other.
