Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: VEHICLE DRIVE SYSTEM AND LOADING METHOD
[0001] The present invention relates to an electric drive system for a vehicle. More specifically, the invention relates to a drive system comprising an electric motor powered by a fuel cell and a battery. The invention also relates to a vehicle equipped with a drive system. The invention further provides a method for recharging an electric battery of an electrical system also provided with a fuel cell. The invention further provides a computer program for recharging a drive system battery.
[0002] An electrically driven vehicle has, on the one hand, an electric motor for propelling it, and electrical power supply means. These electrical power supply means can be mixed in the sense that the same vehicle can include both a fuel cell and an electric battery. Combining these primary energy sources makes it possible to extend the vehicle's autonomy, while increasing the power peaks available during acceleration. Furthermore, the use of the fuel cell optimizes the charging time, the cost, and the mass necessary to accumulate the driving energy. In addition, the presence of the battery allows energy recovery by braking the vehicle. In certain operating modes, part of the energy produced by the fuel cell is used to recharge the battery; and this while the vehicle is moving.
[0003] Document DE102019210323Al discloses a drive system for an electric vehicle. The vehicle is powered by an electric motor which is powered by a fuel cell or an electric battery. The latter can be recharged using an external network in order to increase the vehicle's autonomy. A DC / DC converter adapts the voltage levels. However, this solution requires additional means. This increases costs and the overall size.
[0004] The invention aims to solve at least one of the problems posed by the prior art. The invention aims to simplify the charging of an electric battery of a vehicle drive system.
[0005] The subject of the invention is a vehicle drive system, in particular a railway vehicle, the drive system comprising:

[0009] - a fuel cell capable of powering the electric drive motor via the DC / DC converter;
[0010] - connection means connecting the fuel cell to the DC / DC converter;
[0011] characterized in that it further comprises an external charging device connected to the connection means and intended to be connected to an external source so as to recharge the drive battery via the DC / DC converter.
[0012] According to other advantageous aspects of the invention, the system comprises one or more of the following characteristics, taken individually or in all technically possible combinations:
[0013] - the external loading device comprises a control apparatus configured to cut or connect the DC / DC converter to the external source;
[0014] - the control apparatus comprises a contactor;
[0015] - the control apparatus comprises a disconnector;
[0016] - the control apparatus is a first apparatus, the connection means further comprising a second apparatus configured to open and close the connection means between the DC / DC converter and the fuel cell, the first apparatus and the second apparatus being configured to selectively connect the DC / DC converter to the fuel cell or to the external source;
[0017] - the system further comprises an inverter configured to charge the battery drive by kinetic energy recovery via the electric drive motor.
[0018] The invention also relates to a vehicle comprising a drive system and an external casing, characterized in that the drive system is in accordance with one of the preceding claims, and the external loading device comprises an interface connector at the external casing of the vehicle.
[0019] The invention also relates to a method for loading a vehicle comprising a drive system, the drive system comprising:
[0020] - an electric drive motor, said electric drive motor being capable of driving the vehicle;
[0021] - a DC / DC converter;
[0022] - a drive battery configured to power the electric motor drive and connected to the DC / DC converter;
[0023] - a fuel cell capable of powering the electric drive motor via the DC / DC converter;
[0024] - connection means connecting the fuel cell to the DC / DC converter;
[0025] the method comprising the step:
[0026] - charging the drive battery by the fuel cell;
[0027] characterized in that the method further comprises a step of
[0028] - charging the drive battery from an external source via the means connection.
[0029] According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the method further comprises a step of comparing a charge level of the drive battery with a predefined charging threshold, the step of charging the drive battery by the external source stopping when the charge level is greater than or equal to the predefined charging threshold.
[0030] The invention also relates to a computer program product comprising instructions which, when the program is executed by a computer, cause the latter to implement the loading method.
[0031] The invention allows reuse of the DC / DC converter which cooperates with the fuel cell. Thus, this converter has a dual utility. The arrangement according to the invention allows simplification of charging insofar as the voltage available in the external infrastructure is used directly. In particular, the upstream connection of the DC / DC converter makes it possible to use a lower voltage than that of the battery, which simplifies the equipment necessary for connection to the external source.
[0032] These characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of non-limiting example, and made with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
[0033] [Fig.l] [Fig.l] is a simplified representation of a drive system according to the invention; and
[0034] [Fig.2] [Fig.2] is a diagram of a method of loading a drive system according to the invention.
[0035] In this patent application, "drive" means the act of towing or propelling a vehicle. The drive enables the associated vehicle to move.
[0036] The term "fuel cell" covers a single fuel cell as well as a stack of fuel cells.
[0037] [Fig. 1] represents a drive system 30 of a vehicle 20 in a charging infrastructure 10. The charging infrastructure 10 makes it possible to electrically charge and recharge a battery of the drive system 30. It may comprise an electrical network, also called an external source. The external source provides electrical energy that can be used to charge one or more electric batteries. For illustration purposes, the external source has a voltage of 600 V DC.
[0038] The vehicle 20 is an electric vehicle in the sense that its drive is provided, totally or mainly, by electrical energy supplied to an electric drive motor 32 of the drive system 30. The electrical power supply is hybrid insofar as it is supplied by a drive battery 36 and a fuel cell 38. The vehicle 20 is optionally energy autonomous insofar as it carries sufficient energy accumulators for its drive, and possibly the drive of a coupling driven by said vehicle. In particular, the vehicle 20 may be a locomotive pulling several wagons connected to it.
[0039] The drive battery 36 is connected to the drive electric motor 32 via an inverter 34, and the fuel cell 38 is connected to the drive electric motor 32 via the inverter 34 and a DC / DC converter 40. The fuel cell 38 is electrically connected to the DC / DC converter 40 via connection means 42. These connection means 42 comprise two pins, one associated with the positive terminal of the fuel cell 38, and the other with the negative terminal.
[0040] The electric drive motor 32 converts electrical energy into mechanical energy in order to actuate one or more axles (not shown) of the vehicle 20. Thus, the electric drive motor 32 allows the vehicle to move forward. The electric drive motor 32 is alternating current, for example three-phase. More generally, it may be a rotating electrical machine. It may be reversible, and generate electrical energy by recovering kinetic energy from the vehicle 20. The electrical energy produced is of the alternating type. The inverter 34 is configured so as to convert alternating current into direct current; and vice versa. The inverter 34 comprises an AC / DC converter.
[0041] The fuel cell 38 provides direct current, for example at a voltage of 600V, or more generally at the voltage of the same order as an external source of electrical energy 48. The fuel cell 38 is a device generating an electrical voltage by oxidation, on one electrode, of a reducing fuel; and by reduction on another electrode of an oxidant. For example, the reducing agent and the oxidant are dihydrogen and oxygen respectively. The fuel cell may be a hydrogen cell.
[0042] The DC / DC converter 40 is capable of converting a direct current into a direct current of another voltage; for example, a higher voltage. It may be a step-up chopper. The DC / DC converter 40 is configured to increase the voltage supplied by the fuel cell 38 to a higher voltage in order to power the drive motor 32.
[0043] The drive battery 36 is also called the main battery, and supplies power to the drive electrical circuit 54. The drive electrical circuit 54 comprises electrical connections in order to connect the drive battery 36 as well as the DC / DC converter 40 to the inverter 34 in a parallel connection. It has a nominal voltage higher than the voltage of the fuel cell 38. The drive battery 36 is indirectly connected to the engine 32, via the inverter 34. The vehicle 20 optionally comprises a second battery (not shown), or auxiliary battery, supplying equipment of the vehicle such as lighting, sensors. The second battery has a nominal voltage lower than the nominal voltage of the drive battery 36, for example at least ten times lower.
[0044] The drive system 30 comprises an external charging device 45, itself connected to an external source of electrical energy 48; for example when the vehicle 20 is parked. The external charging device 45 is connected to the connection means 42, therefore between the fuel cell 38 and the DC / DC converter 40. In the present configuration, the vehicle 20 is stationary, for example in a building equipped with the source of electrical energy, called external source 48, in the sense that it is external to the vehicle 20. The external source 48 advantageously has a voltage substantially equal to that of the fuel cell 38. It is an external source of direct current. Certain voltage fluctuations are possible.
[0045] By connecting the external source 48 to the connection means 42, it is possible to use a lower voltage to recharge the drive battery 36. Such a voltage is more widespread than that of the drive battery, and requires fewer safety features. Furthermore, the vehicle equipment remains lighter and more compact. It remains structurally simple.
[0046] The external charging device 45 comprises two lines, each connected to one of the lines of the connection means 42. The external charging device 45 further comprises a control apparatus 46. The control apparatus 46 is also called first apparatus 46. It is optionally bipolar, which makes it possible to cut each of the lines of the external charging device 45. The drive system 30 is configured to selectively connect the DC / DC converter 40 to the fuel cell 38 or to the external source 48. The control apparatus 46 allows a connection to the DC / DC converter 40 while improving operational safety with respect to the fuel cell 38.
[0047] Thus, the external source 48 is either electrically connected to the DC / DC converter 40 or is cut off from it. The control apparatus 46 is configured to open and close an electrical connection between the DC / DC converter 40 and the external source 48. It is controlled by a computer 52 of the vehicle 20. The computer 52 comprises a processor (not shown) and a memory (not shown) on which is recorded a computer program. It may be a programmable electronic card. The computer program comprises instructions which, when the program is executed by the computer 52, cause the latter to implement a loading method as described in relation to [Fig.2].
[0048] The control apparatus 46 comprises a bipolar contactor, which allows the control apparatus 46 to be opened and closed under load. Alternatively, the control apparatus 46 comprises a bipolar disconnector. This solution is optimized for opening and closing the control apparatus 46 under load.
[0049] The connection means 42 comprise a second control apparatus 50. The second apparatus 50 is bipolar. They make it possible to connect to, or disconnect, the fuel cell 38 from the DC / DC converter 40. The fuel cell 38 can thus be isolated from the rest of the electrical drive circuit 54. The second apparatus 50 is controlled by the computer 52. The computer 52, and / or generally the system 30, are configured so as to actuate the apparatuses 46 and 50 so that they are opened or closed in turn as part of the charging of the battery 36. Thus, the DC / DC converter 40 is selectively connected to, and therefore powered by, the fuel cell 38 or the external source 48. The computer 52 is able to send opening and closing instructions, or disconnection and connection instructions, to the apparatuses 46 and 50.
[0050] According to a variant of the invention (not shown), the connection means and the external charging device share the same line, for example the negative line. The first device and the second device are on the positive lines; the common negative line possibly being free of control equipment. According to this variant, the devices 46 and 50 are single-pole.
[0051] The vehicle 20 comprises an external envelope 56. This external envelope 56 forms the skin of the vehicle 20. It may be a body or a fuselage. The external charging device 45 comprises an interface connector 58 at the external envelope 56. The interface connector 58 may be a socket. It may be directly formed on the outer surface of the external envelope 56, or be covered by a movable flap forming said outer surface. An operator can thus connect the external source 48 to the vehicle 20 via the interface connector 58.
[0052] [Fig.2] represents the method of loading a vehicle 20 comprising a drive system 30. The drive system 30, and optionally the vehicle 20, are in accordance with those presented in relation to [Fig.l].
[0053] The method comprises the following steps, carried out according to the sequence presented below:
[0054] - charging 100 of the drive battery 36 by the fuel cell 38;
[0055] - stop 102 of vehicle 20;
[0056] - charging 104 of the drive battery 36 by an external source 48 via the connection means 42;
[0057] - comparison 106 of a charge level (SOC) of the drive battery 36 to a predefined loading threshold;
[0058] - end of charging 108 if the charge level (SOC) is sufficient.
[0059] During the charging step 100 by the fuel cell 38, the vehicle 20 can travel. The fuel cell 38 can power the drive motor 32, or the battery, or both at the same time. In this step, the battery 36 is charged at a first charging power provided by the fuel cell 38.
[0060] At the stopping step 102, the vehicle 20 is in a maintenance building, or in a parking lot. The building may be enclosed, so that stopping the operation of the fuel cell 38 is generally recommended. The charging step 100 by the fuel cell 38 may continue for at least a portion of the stopping step 102.
[0061] Then, at the charging step 104 by the external source 48, the vehicle 20 is connected to an external electrical network or power supply network. The connection can be manual, or carried out automatically by a motorized connection mechanism. At the charging step 104 by the external source 48, the latter provides a second charging power.
[0062] During the stop step 102, the electrical charging switches from the fuel cell 38 to the external source 48. The method moves from the charging step 100 by the fuel cell 38 to the charging step 104 by the external source 48.
[0063] At the end of the comparison step 106, if the state of charge (SOC) is greater than or equal to the predefined threshold, the step 104 of charging the drive battery 36 by the external source 48 stops during the end of charging step 108. Otherwise, said step of charging 104 by the external source 48 continues. The comparison step 106 can be carried out continuously.
[0064] Before or at the charging step 104 by the external source 48, the second apparatus 50 opens, and cuts the electrical connection between the fuel cell and the DC / DC converter 40, and therefore to the battery. During the charging step 104 by the external source 48, the first apparatus 46 closes in order to electrically connect the external source 48 to the DC / DC converter 40, and to the drive battery 36. Optionally, the second apparatus 50 opens when the first apparatus 46 closes. Preferably, the first apparatus 46 closes after the second apparatus 50 cuts the electrical drive circuit. This makes it possible to protect the fuel cell.
[0065] According to a variant of the invention, at the loading step by the external source, the vehicle is connected to a fixed network by a catenary.
[0066] According to one option of the invention, certain steps are carried out at the same time. For For example, the comparison step can be performed during the step of charging the drive battery by the external source.
