Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of a carboxylase reductase (abbreviated as "CAR") comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 80% identity with SEQ ID NO:2 to produce terephthalaldehyde (abbreviated as "TPAL") from terephthalic acid (abbreviated as "TPA"), associated TPAL production methods, as well as nucleic acids, vectors and host cells for the production of CAR or TPAL from TPA.
