Retractable cab protection system

Abstract

A cab protector 10 for protecting a cab 12 of a vehicle, the cab having a forward-facing windscreen 14 and a roof portion 16 at an angle relative to the windscreen, the cab protector comprising: a plurality of guide rails 18 for fixing adjacent the cab with, in use, a first guide rail portion 28 located adjacent the windscreen and a second guide rail portion 30, angled relative to said first guide rail portion, located adjacent the roof portion of the cab; at least one first grille 34 having a plurality of grille portions (40, 42 figure 2), wherein said first grille is slidably connected at a plurality of first connection locations to at least one guide of each said guide rail; and a grille mover 20 for moving said grille along said guide rail between a working condition wherein said first grille is located adjacent the cab windscreen and a non-working condition wherein at least one said portion of said first grille is located adjacent the roof portion (figure 3). The grille mover may comprise a manual winch or a motor and pulley system.

Claims

1. A cab protector for protecting a cab of a vehicle, the cab having a forward-facing windscreen and a roof portion at an angle relative to the windscreen, the cab protector comprising:5 a plurality of guide rails for fixing adjacent the cab with, in use, a first guide rail portion located adjacent the windscreen and a second guide rail portion, angled relative to said first guide rail portion, located adjacent the roof portion of the cab;10 at least one first grille having a plurality of grille portions, wherein said first grille is slidably connected at a plurality of first connection locations to at least one guide of each said guide rail; anda grille mover for moving said grille along said guide rail 15 between a working condition wherein said first grille is located adjacent the cab windscreen and a non-working condition wherein at least one said portion of said first grille is located adjacent the roof portion.

2. A cab protector according to claim 1, wherein said grille 20 portions comprise a plurality of longitudinal bars.

3. A cab protector according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said grille portions are separable.

4. A cab protector according to claim 3, wherein said separable grille portions are connected to opposing ends of at 25 least one flexible connector.

5. A cab protector according to claim 4, wherein said at least one flexible member comprises a chain and said grille mover comprises at least one sprocket.

6. A cab protector according to any of claims 3 to 5, wherein 30 each grille portion is provided with a respective guide.

7. A cab protector according to claim 2, wherein said grille portions are pivotally connected.

8. A cab protector according to claim 6, wherein said longitudinal bars have at least one aperture located adjacent 5 terminal ends for receiving a bar connector extending through said apertures of said bars pivotably connecting them together and thereby connecting said grille portions.

9. A cab protector according to any preceding claim, wherein said grille mover comprises a manual winch and pulley system.10   10. A cab protector according to claims 1 to 3, wherein saidgrille mover comprises a motor and pulley system.

11. A cab protector according to any preceding claim, further comprising a second grille located below said first grille.

12. A cab protector according to any preceding claim, further C\J15 comprising a third grille located above said first grille.Q    13. A cab protector according to any preceding claim, wherein’       said guide comprises at least one slot aperture.LO14. A cab protector according to any preceding claim, wherein at least one of said second and third grilles is movable from a 20 working condition located adjacent a portion of the windscreen and a non-working condition pivoted away from said portion of the windscreen.

15. A cab protector according to any preceding claim, wherein said first grille is slidably connected at a first connection 25 location, a second connection location and a third connection location to said guide of each said guide rail.

16. A cab protector according to claim 14, wherein said guide rail comprises three guides one for each connection location.
