Abstract
Description
Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a door stopper device, in particular a device for stopping a door or similar closure for an opening, such as a window; more particularly but not exclusively a device for holding a door open. Background Proper ventilation is increasingly recognised as an important factor in healthy living, in many societies across the world, as building standards are improved or instituted. Ventilation can be provided at point of construction of spaces, or can be added later. Some spaces may only require temporary and ad-hoc ventilation, and so can be best served by opening a window or door. However holding a window or door open for consistent and / or controlled ventilation may be a problem. Additionally or alternatively some users may wish to leave a door or window open for passage of pets for example. Standard door stops placed under a door may not work in cases such as doors with large gaps underneath orthose that open out onto a step or decking. Prior Art US n2005 0 151 382 (BARBER) discloses an article of manufacture for securing a window in a partial open position comprising: a flat rigid strip of material having a rectangular vertical body with an upper and lower portion; a generally U-shaped lower portion extending in a first direction from said vertical body; and a generally right triangle shaped upper portion of which the back of said right triangle shape is parallel to said vertical body and the base of said right triangle shape is perpendicular to and extending in a second and opposite direction from said vertical body. US 2002 0 033 608 (WARDEN) discloses gap apparatus for mounting on a door and extending from the door to a door frame, comprising: a door clamp which includes a door-edge-covering portion and a pair of door-side clamp portions extending outward from said door-edge-covering portion at opposite edges of said door-edge-covering portion, wherein said door-side clamp portions extend from said door-edge-covering portion in a first direction, panel clamp members attached to said door-edge-covering portion, wherein said panel clamp members extend outward from said door-edge-covering portion in a second direction, and wherein said panel clamp members are spaced apart providing a panel-reception region therebetween, and a panel portion which fits between said panel clamp members. EP 0 624 701 (HOERZER) discloses a stay for windows and doors which are retained pivotably in a frame, comprising a profile strip and two U-profiles which are arranged in an articulated manner at in each case one of the ends of the profile strip, with leg openings directed towards one another, in each case one of the legs exhibiting a bracing element, with the aid of which they can be fixedly clamped on the window or the door, on the one hand, and on the frame, on the other hand. The bracing element is formed by a threaded bolt with a large-surface-area pressureexerting head. The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing devices. Summary of the Invention According to the present invention there is provided a door stopper device comprising a brace with two opposed ends, wherein a first proximal end comprises a grip arranged to receive a structure extending in a first plane, and the distal second end comprises a clamp arranged to receive a structure extending in a second orthogonal plane. In this way the device may be used to hold a door or window closure in an open position, whereby the first end may hook over or grip the top of a door for example, and the second end clamps or holds a frame for the door, and the brace extending to hold the ends apart. In some embodiments of the device the device comprises a telescoping brace, so as to allow for the device to accommodate different widths of gap between the ends. In some embodiments of the device the device comprises a locking means for telescoping, so as to ensure the gap remains fixed. In some such embodiments of the device the locking means comprises an overcentre locking arm, for example so as to create a friction, tolerance or interference fit of the coaxially telescoping parts. In some embodiments of the device the grip is secured by a pivot to the brace, so as to allow for the relative angle of the two ends of the gap to be accommodated. In some embodiments of the device the clamp is secured by a pivot to the brace, so as to allow for relative angle of the two ends of the gap to be accommodated. In some embodiments of the device the clamp comprises two spaced apart arms, which arms may be placed on either side of a structure extending in the second plane, such as a vertically extending door frame. In some embodiments of the device the arms include padded internal surfaces, so as to prevent damage to the structures, for example such surfaces comprises rubber or silicone pads. Additionally or alternatively the surfaces thereby further provide friction to limit movements of the surfaces on the structures. In some embodiments of the device the clamp comprises a threaded width adjustment, which may be envisaged to move at least one of the arms or move a clamp member in relation to one or both of the arms. In this way adjustment of the spacing of the clamp may be rendered simple to control, allowing for a plurality of widths of structure to be accommodated. In some embodiments of the device the grip comprises a hook. Such hook may thereby be easily placed onto or over a door or similar, so as to prevent its movement. In some embodiments of the device the grip comprises a threaded width adjustment means or bar. In this way for example a hook may be hooked onto and over a door and the adjustment means may be adjusted in order to secure the hook onto and over the door, so as to prevent the hook’s and the device’s movement from the door. A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the Figures in which: Brief Description of Figures Figure 1 shows an isometric view of an embodiment of the device according to the present invention; Figure 2 shows a reverse isometric view of the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 shows an exploded isometric view of the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 1; and Figure 4 shows a reverse exploded isometric view of the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 1. Detailed Description of Figures With reference to the figures there is shown an embodiment of a door stopper device 99 generally comprising an elongate brace 3 with two opposed ends, wherein a first proximal end 1 comprises a grip 9 arranged to receive a structure (not shown) extending in a first plane, and the distal second end 2 comprises a clamp member 5 arranged to secure to a structure (not shown) extending in a second orthogonal plane. The embodiment thereby allows any door to be held firmly open, without the possibility of it slamming shut or blowing open, which could potentially damage the door. This allows a breeze to enter the building, as well as giving pets the freedom to come and go as they desire. The embodiment can be adjusted to fit on all common household doors and most others, including shed and caravan doors. In particular reference to the pictured embodiment 99 the embodiment comprises a brace in the form of a rectangular section bar, forming a rigid bracing means supporting a gap between two ends braced against or secured to structures. The brace 3 is formed of two coaxially telescopic parts 21,22. A central locking collar 23 is secured to the larger of the two parts 22 , and comprises a cam locking lever 32 which when locked causes a sufficient tolerance or friction force to lock sliding of the smaller of the two parts 21 in the larger part 22, for example by compressing the collar 23. At each of the distal ends 1,2 of the parts there is a pivot comprises a threaded pin 4, which includes a square nut end 5 a pivot head 7. In this way the nut end can be tightened or loosened to lock the pivot on the brace. Internally the pivot comprises a threaded insert 19 to thread the bolt through. At the first end 1 the pivot allows pivoting of hook 9, which hook is envisaged to allow hooking of the device over a door. The hook includes a threaded clamp member 4, which is screwed in to secure the hook over a plurality of width doors. The hook is defined by an arm 8 comprising the clamp member extending in a first plane orthogonal to the plane of the brace, which arm is formed as a band in steel or plastic, substantially the width of the main body. The arm turns into an arcuate inverted U shape hook end, which depends below the clamp member on the arm. In some embodiments the arm and grip end may share a hinge to allow further articulation to the pivot on the brace. At the distal second end 2 the pivot pivots to a U shaped clamp, where a first arm 10 of the clamp indudes a threaded clamp member 4 which is arranged to be screwed to allow for damping onto a plurality of door frame widths in combination with an opposed and fixed second arm 11. The arms are spaced by a body extending in the first plane as the hook. In some embodiments the body and arms may allow articulation in further axes or planes. In some embodiments the arms may be adapted to telescope in relation to the body, so as to allow a plurality of widths between the arms. In some embodiments the clamp member contad pads 8 and / or inner faces of the damp or hook arms and / or grip are provided with a padded or resiliently deformable surface so as to provide a less damaging surface for contact with the door or frame, advantageously minimising damage of the device during usage. The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of protection as defined by the claims.
