Head mountable display

Abstract

A head-mountable electronic device 6-100 comprises a housing (6-330, fig 6-3), a display (6-334, fig 6-3) secured within the housing, a first optical sensor including a camera 6-120, 6-122 and light-emitting diode (LED) 6-124 disposed adjacent the display, and a second optical sensor 6-106 oriented outward, away from the user's face. A processor is communicatively coupled to the first and second optical sensor and a memory device storing instructions that cause the processor to identify user gaze data from the first optical sensor, identify user hand gesture data from the second optical sensor, and modify a user interface presented by the display based on at least one of the user gaze data or hand gesture data. The user interface includes a virtual object. Modifying the user interface may include changing a level of virtual reality immersion presented by the display. Changing the level of virtual reality immersion may include changing an amount of virtual content superimposed over real world content.
