Claims

1. A gardening tool comprising:a ground working device comprising boron steel; anda handle connected to said ground working device, the handle comprising wood, at least a portion of said wood having been heat treated.

2. A gardening tool according to claim 1, wherein said handle comprises a shaft and a gripping portion.

3. A gardening tool according to claim 2, wherein said gripping portion comprises said heat treated portion.

4. A gardening tool according to claim 2 or 3, wherein said gripping portion is perpendicular to said shaft.

5. A gardening tool according to any preceding claim, wherein said heat treated portion comprises an axis or a plane which is substantially parallel to a ground surface when said ground working device is stuck in the ground.

6. A gardening tool according to claim 2 or 5, wherein said shaft is continuous with said gripping portion.

7. A gardening tool according to any preceding claim, wherein said ground working device comprises a connecting portion and a working portion.

8. A gardening tool according to claim 7, wherein said working portion comprises a blade.

9. A gardening tool according to claim 7 or 8, wherein said working portion is formed by stamping.

10. A gardening tool according to any of claims 7 to 9, wherein said working portion is welded to said connecting portion.

11. A method of making a gardening tool, comprising the steps: forming a ground working device from boron steel;forming a first portion of a handle of said tool from wood and heat treating said wood;forming a second portion of said handle of said tool from nonheat-treated wood; andcombining said first and second handle portions to form a handle of said tool and fixing said handle to said ground working device .

12. A method according to claim 11, wherein said first portion of said handle comprises a gripping portion and said second portion of said handle comprises a shaft.

13. A method according to claim 12, further comprising attaching said gripping portion perpendicular to said shaft.

14. A method according to any of claims 11 to 13, wherein said ground working device comprises a connecting portion and a working portion and further comprises forming at least said working portion by stamping.

15. A method according to claim 14, further comprising welding said connecting portion to said working portion.A
