Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a light source device and a projector. [Background technology]

[0002] 2. Description of the Related Art As a light source device for use in a projector, a light source device has been proposed that utilizes fluorescence emitted from a phosphor when the phosphor is irradiated with excitation light emitted from a light emitting element.

[0003] The following Patent Document 1 discloses a light source device including an excitation light source having a light emitting element and a support substrate, a phosphor rod that converts the excitation light emitted from the light emitting element into fluorescence, and a support that dissipates heat generated by the phosphor rod. In this light source device, the phosphor rod is pressed by a contact member provided on the support substrate of the excitation light source, thereby being held in a groove of the support. [0004] [Patent Document 1] International Publication No. 2020 / 254455 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0005] However, in the light source device of Patent Document 1, there is a risk that the heat of the light emitting element in the excitation light source may cause warping of the support substrate. For example, if warping occurs in the support substrate toward the phosphor rod, the contact member may press the phosphor rod too hard, which may result in damage or failure to obtain the desired optical characteristics. Furthermore, if a contact member is not provided, the distance between the phosphor rod and the light-emitting element may change due to warping of the supporting substrate, making it impossible to obtain the desired optical characteristics, or if the distance between the phosphor rod and the light-emitting element becomes too close, the phosphor rod and the light-emitting element may come into contact, resulting in damage or making it impossible to obtain the desired optical characteristics.

[0006] Although the above description has been given taking a light source device involving wavelength conversion as an example, it is desirable to provide a light source device that is highly reliable and can obtain desired optical characteristics even in a light source device that does not involve wavelength conversion. [Means for solving the problem]

[0007] In order to solve the above problems, a light source device according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a light source unit having a light source substrate including a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface, and a light-emitting element provided on the first surface of the light source substrate, a light-guiding member that guides light emitted from the light-emitting element of the light source unit, a support member that supports the light-guiding member in a groove portion, a fixing portion that is provided on an outer circumferential edge portion of the light source substrate and fixes the light source unit and the support member so as to face the light-emitting element provided on the first surface of the light source substrate and the light-guiding member, and a convex portion located on the inner circumferential side of the light source substrate relative to the fixing portion, wherein the support member has a groove portion and the light-guiding member is disposed in the groove portion, the light source substrate and the support member abut against each other by the convex portion, and the convex portion is provided on at least one of an opposing surface of the support member that faces the first surface of the light source substrate and the first surface of the light source substrate, and separates the light-emitting element from the support member and the light-guiding member.

[0008] A projector of one embodiment of the present invention comprises a light source device of one embodiment of the present invention, a light modulation device that modulates light emitted from the light source device in accordance with image information, and a projection optical device that projects the light modulated by the light modulation device. [0010] Hereinafter, one embodiment of the present invention will be described. The projector of this embodiment is an example of a projector that uses a liquid crystal panel as a light modulation device. In the drawings, the dimensions of the components may be shown on different scales in order to make the components easier to see.

[0011] FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a schematic configuration of a projector 1 according to the present embodiment. 1, the projector 1 of this embodiment is a projection type image display device that displays a color image on a screen SCR, which is a projection surface. The projector 1 includes three light modulation devices corresponding to the respective colors of red light LR, green light LG, and blue light LB.

[0012] The projector 1 includes a first illumination device 20, a second illumination device 21, a color separation optical system 3, a light modulation device 4R, a light modulation device 4G, a light modulation device 4B, a light combining element 5, and a projection optical device 6.

[0013] The first illumination device 20 emits yellow fluorescence Y toward the color separation optical system 3. The second illumination device 21 emits blue light LB toward the light modulation device 4B. Detailed configurations of the first illumination device 20 and the second illumination device 21 will be described later.

[0014] In the following, in the drawings, an XYZ Cartesian coordinate system is used for explanation as necessary. The Z axis is an axis along the up-down direction of the projector 1. The X axis is an axis parallel to the optical axis AX1 of the first lighting device 20 and the optical axis AX2 of the second lighting device 21. The Y axis is an axis perpendicular to the X axis and the Z axis. The optical axis AX1 of the first lighting device 20 is the central axis of the fluorescent light Y emitted from the first lighting device 20. The optical axis AX2 of the second lighting device 21 is the central axis of the blue light LB emitted from the second lighting device 21. One of the two directions along the X axis is called the +X direction, and the opposite direction is called the -X direction, one of the two directions along the Y axis is called the +Y direction, and the opposite direction is called the -Y direction, and one of the two directions along the Z axis is called the +Z direction, and the opposite direction is called the -Z direction. In addition, when the two directions along the X-axis are not distinguished, it will be referred to as the X-axis direction, when the two directions along the Y-axis are not distinguished, it will be referred to as the Y-axis direction, and when the two directions along the Z-axis are not distinguished, it will be referred to as the Z-axis direction.

[0015] The color separation optical system 3 separates the yellow fluorescence Y emitted from the first illumination device 20 into red light LR and green light LG. The color separation optical system 3 includes a dichroic mirror 7, a first reflecting mirror 8a, and a second reflecting mirror 8b.

[0016] The dichroic mirror 7 separates the fluorescence Y into red light LR and green light LG. The dichroic mirror 7 transmits the red light LR and reflects the green light LG. The second reflecting mirror 8b is disposed in the optical path of the green light LG. The second reflecting mirror 8b reflects the green light LG reflected by the dichroic mirror 7 toward the optical modulation device 4G. The first reflecting mirror 8a is disposed in the optical path of the red light LR. The first reflecting mirror 8a reflects the red light LR transmitted through the dichroic mirror 7 toward the optical modulation device 4R.

[0017] On the other hand, the blue light LB emitted from the second illumination device 21 is reflected by the reflecting mirror 9 towards the light modulation device 4B.

[0018] The configuration of the second illumination device 21 will be described below. The second illumination device 21 includes a light source unit 81, a condenser lens 82, a diffusion plate 83, a rod lens 84, and a relay lens 85. The light source unit 81 is composed of at least one semiconductor laser. The light source unit 81 emits blue light LB composed of laser light. Note that the light source unit 81 is not limited to a semiconductor laser, and may be composed of an LED that emits blue light.

[0019] The condenser lens 82 is composed of a convex lens. The condenser lens 82 causes the blue light LB emitted from the light source unit 81 to enter the diffusion plate 83 in a substantially condensed state. The diffusion plate 83 diffuses the blue light LB emitted from the condenser lens 82 with a predetermined diffusion degree, and generates blue light LB having a substantially uniform light distribution similar to that of the fluorescent light Y emitted from the first lighting device 20. As the diffusion plate 83, for example, ground glass made of optical glass is used.

[0020] The blue light LB diffused by the diffusion plate 83 is incident on the rod lens 84. The rod lens 84 has a prismatic shape extending along the optical axis AX2 direction of the second illumination device 21. The rod lens 84 has a light incident end surface 84a provided at one end and a light exit end surface 84b provided at the other end. The diffusion plate 83 is fixed to the light incident end surface 84a of the rod lens 84 via an optical adhesive (not shown). It is desirable to match the refractive index of the diffusion plate 83 and the refractive index of the rod lens 84 as closely as possible.

[0021] The blue light LB is propagated while being totally reflected inside the rod lens 84, and is emitted from the light emitting end surface 84b with the uniformity of the illuminance distribution being enhanced. The blue light LB emitted from the rod lens 84 is incident on the relay lens 85. The relay lens 85 causes the blue light LB, whose uniformity of the illuminance distribution has been enhanced by the rod lens 84, to be incident on the reflecting mirror 9.

[0022] The shape of the light exit end surface 84b of the rod lens 84 is a rectangle that is approximately similar to the shape of the image forming area of the light modulation device 4B. This allows the blue light LB exiting from the rod lens 84 to efficiently enter the image forming area of the light modulation device 4B.

[0023] The light modulation device 4R modulates the red light LR according to image information to form image light corresponding to the red light LR. The light modulation device 4G modulates the green light LG according to image information to form image light corresponding to the green light LG. The light modulation device 4B modulates the blue light LB according to image information to form image light corresponding to the blue light LB.

[0024] For example, a transmissive liquid crystal panel is used for each of the light modulation devices 4R, 4G, and 4B. A polarizing plate (not shown) is disposed on the entrance side and exit side of each of the liquid crystal panels. The polarizing plate transmits only linearly polarized light in a specific direction.

[0025] A field lens 10R is disposed on the incident side of the optical modulation device 4R. A field lens 10G is disposed on the incident side of the optical modulation device 4G. A field lens 10B is disposed on the incident side of the optical modulation device 4B. The field lens 10R collimates the chief ray of the red light LR incident on the optical modulation device 4R. The field lens 10G collimates the chief ray of the green light LG incident on the optical modulation device 4G. The field lens 10B collimates the chief ray of the blue light LB incident on the optical modulation device 4B.

[0026] The light combining element 5 receives the image light emitted from the light modulation device 4R, the light modulation device 4G, and the light modulation device 4B, combines the image light corresponding to the red light LR, the green light LG, and the blue light LB, and emits the combined image light toward the projection optical device 6. The light combining element 5 may be, for example, a cross dichroic prism.

[0027] The projection optical device 6 is composed of a plurality of projection lenses. The projection optical device 6 enlarges and projects the image light combined by the light combining element 5 onto the screen SCR. As a result, a color image is displayed on the screen SCR.

[0028] Next, the configuration of the first illumination device 20 will be described. FIG. 2 is a schematic configuration diagram of the first illumination device 20. As shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 2, the first illumination device 20 includes a light source device 100, a collimating optical system 63, an integrator optical system 70, a polarization conversion element 102, and a superimposing optical system 103.

[0029] The light source device 100 includes a wavelength conversion member 50, a light source unit 51, an angle conversion member 52, a mirror 53, a support member 54, a first heat dissipation member 71, a second heat dissipation member 72, a holding member 65, and a pair of pressing members 90. The wavelength conversion member 50 of the present embodiment corresponds to the "light guide member" in the claims.

[0030] The wavelength conversion member 50 has a rectangular prism shape extending along the X-axis and has six faces. The sides of the wavelength conversion member 50 extending along the X-axis are longer than the sides extending along the Y-axis and the Z-axis. Therefore, the X-axis corresponds to the longitudinal direction of the wavelength conversion member 50. The length of the side extending along the Y-axis is equal to the length of the side extending along the Z-axis. That is, the cross-sectional shape of the wavelength conversion member 50 cut along a plane along the YZ plane perpendicular to the X-axis is a square. Note that the cross-sectional shape of the wavelength conversion member 50 cut along a plane along the YZ plane may be rectangular.

[0031] The wavelength conversion member 50 has a first surface 50a, a second surface 50b, a third surface 50c, a fourth surface 50d, a fifth surface 50e, and a sixth surface 50f. The first surface 50a and the second surface 50b intersect with the X-axis along the longitudinal direction of the wavelength conversion member 50 and are located on opposite sides of the X-axis. In this embodiment, the first surface 50a is located on the +X side, which is one side of the X-axis direction along the X-axis, and the second surface 50b is located on the -X side, which is the opposite direction of the X-axis direction.

[0032] The third surface 50c and the fourth surface 50d intersect with the first surface 50a and the second surface 50b, and intersect with the X-axis along the longitudinal direction of the wavelength conversion member 50, and are located on opposite sides to each other along the Y-axis which is perpendicular in this embodiment. In this embodiment, the third surface 50c is located on the -Y side which is one side of the Y-axis direction along the Y-axis, and the fourth surface 50d is located on the +Y side which is the other side of the Y-axis direction.

[0033] The fifth surface 50e and the sixth surface 50f intersect with the third surface 50c and the fourth surface 50d, and intersect with the X-axis and the Y-axis, and are located on opposite sides of the Z-axis, which is perpendicular to the X-axis and the Y-axis in this embodiment. In this embodiment, the fifth surface 50e is located in the +Z direction, which is one side of the Z-axis direction, and the sixth surface 50f is located in the -Z direction, which is the other side of the Z-axis direction.

[0034] In the following description, when the third surface 50c, the fourth surface 50d, the fifth surface 50e, and the sixth surface 50f are not to be distinguished from each other, they may be simply referred to as side surfaces 50c, 50d, 50e, and 50f.

[0035] The wavelength conversion member 50 contains at least a phosphor, and converts excitation light E having a first wavelength band emitted from the light emitting element 56 of the light source unit 51 into fluorescence Y having a second wavelength band different from the first wavelength band. The excitation light E enters the wavelength conversion member 50 from the third surface 50c. The fluorescence Y is guided inside the wavelength conversion member 50 and then emitted from the first surface 50a. The excitation light E in this embodiment corresponds to the "first light" in the claims. The fluorescence Y in this embodiment corresponds to the "second light" in the claims.

[0036] The wavelength conversion member 50 contains a ceramic phosphor made of a polycrystalline phosphor that converts the wavelength of the excitation light E into the fluorescence Y. The second waveband of the fluorescence Y is, for example, a yellow waveband of 490 to 750 nm. That is, the fluorescence Y is yellow fluorescence containing a red light component and a green light component.

[0037] The wavelength conversion member 50 may contain a single crystal phosphor instead of a polycrystalline phosphor. Alternatively, the wavelength conversion member 50 may be made of fluorescent glass. Alternatively, the wavelength conversion member 50 may be made of a material in which a large number of phosphor particles are dispersed in a binder made of glass or resin. The wavelength conversion member 50 made of such a material converts the excitation light E into fluorescence Y.

[0038] Specifically, the material of the wavelength conversion member 50 includes, for example, an yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) phosphor. Taking YAG:Ce containing cerium (Ce) as an activator as an example, the material of the wavelength conversion member 50 may be a material obtained by mixing raw material powders containing constituent elements such as Y2O3, Al2O3, and CeO3 and causing a solid-phase reaction, Y-Al-O amorphous particles obtained by a wet method such as a coprecipitation method or a sol-gel method, or YAG particles obtained by a gas phase method such as a spray drying method, a flame pyrolysis method, or a thermal plasma method.

[0039] The light source unit 51 includes a light source substrate 55 and a plurality of light emitting elements 56. The light source substrate 55 includes a first surface 55a and a second surface 55b opposite to the first surface 55a. The light source substrate 55 has a structure in which a plurality of layers are stacked, as described below. The multiple light emitting elements 56 are provided on a first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55. The light source section 51 of the present embodiment has multiple light emitting elements 56, but the number of the light emitting elements 56 is not particularly limited.

[0040] The light emitting element 56 has a light emitting surface 56a that emits excitation light E in a first wavelength band. The light emitting element 56 is, for example, a light emitting diode (LED). The light emitting surface 56a of the light emitting element 56 faces the third surface 50c of the wavelength conversion member 50, and emits excitation light E toward the third surface 50c. The first wavelength band is, for example, a wavelength band from blue to purple of 400 nm to 480 nm, and the peak wavelength is, for example, 445 nm. In this way, the light source unit 51 is provided facing the third surface 50c, which is one of the four side surfaces 50c, 50d, 50e, and 50f along the longitudinal direction of the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0041] Fig. 3 is a plan view showing a configuration of a main part of the light source section 51. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a first surface 55a of a light source substrate 55 of the light source section 51. 3, the light source substrate 55 has a substantially rectangular shape. The multiple light emitting elements 56 are linearly arranged on a first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55. The light source substrate 55 further includes wiring 57 electrically connected to the multiple light emitting elements 56, a connector portion 58 electrically connected to the wiring 57, a fixing portion 59, and a recess 60.

[0042] The connector section 58 electrically connects an external device and the light source section 51. The connector section 58 supplies power supplied from the external device to the light emitting element 56 via the wiring 57. The fixing section 59 is a portion for fixing the light source section 51 to the support member 54 described below. The fixing section 59 of the light source board 55 is fixed to the support member 54 via screw members. The fixing section 59 is composed of a plurality of through holes for inserting screws, four through holes 59a in this embodiment. When the light source board 55 is fixed to the support member 54, a protrusion provided on the support member 54 is inserted into the recess 60.

[0043] The fixing portion 59 is provided on the outer periphery of the light source substrate 55. Specifically, the four through holes 59a are arranged at the corners of the rectangular light source substrate 55. The fixing portion 59 fixes the light source unit 51 and the support member 54 so that the light emitting element 56 and the wavelength conversion member 50 provided on the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 face each other.

[0044] In the case of the present embodiment, the fixing portion 59 is also used to fix the first heat dissipation member 71 to the second surface 55b of the light source substrate 55. That is, the first heat dissipation member 71 is fixed to the support member 54 together with the light source substrate 55 via the same screw member. With this configuration, the fixing portion 59 that fixes the light source substrate 55 to the support member 54 also serves as a screw hole for fixing the first heat dissipation member 71, thereby making it possible to reduce the number of holes provided in the light source substrate 55. This makes it possible to increase the rigidity of the light source substrate 55.

[0045] FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along line IV-IV in FIG. As shown in FIG. 4, light source substrate 55 of light source unit 51 includes a base material 550 having a front surface 550a and a back surface 550b, a first insulating layer 551 provided on front surface 550a which is one side of base material 550, a wiring layer 552 laminated on the side of first insulating layer 551 opposite base material 550 and constituting the above-mentioned wiring 57, a second insulating layer 553 laminated on the side of first insulating layer 551 opposite base material 550 so as to cover wiring layer 552, and a recess 554 provided in second insulating layer 553.

[0046] The material of the base material 550 is, for example, aluminum, which has excellent heat dissipation properties. The first insulating layer 551 and the second insulating layer 553 are made of resist films. The wiring layer 552 is made of a wiring pattern made of copper foil. The recess 554 is an opening that exposes a part of the first insulating layer 551, and constitutes the recess 60.

[0047] In this embodiment, the second surface 55b of the light source substrate 55 means the rear surface 550b of the base material 550, and the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 means the surface of the layer located at the uppermost surface among the insulating layers and wiring layers laminated on the front surface 550a side of the base material 550. Therefore, the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 means a surface that is not a flat surface but includes irregularities according to the laminated structure of the insulating layers and wiring layers.

[0048] The light emitting element 56 is provided on the second insulating layer 553 in a region not shown, and is electrically connected to the wiring layer 552 via, for example, wire bonding. That is, the light emitting element 56 is provided on the surface of the second insulating layer 553 that forms the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55.

[0049] Returning to FIG. 2, the support member 54 extends in the X-axis direction along the longitudinal direction of the wavelength conversion member 50, has a groove 154 that accommodates a part of the wavelength conversion member 50, and the wavelength conversion member 50 is disposed inside the groove 154, and diffuses and releases heat generated by the wavelength conversion member 50 to the outside. For this reason, it is desirable that the support member 54 is made of a material that has a predetermined strength and high thermal conductivity. For example, metals such as aluminum and stainless steel are used as the material for the support member 54, and it is particularly desirable to use an aluminum alloy such as 6061 series. The specific configuration of the support member 54 will be described later.

[0050] The first heat dissipation member 71 is fixed to the second surface 55b of the light source substrate 55, and dissipates heat from the light source substrate 55. The first heat dissipation member 71 of the present embodiment corresponds to the "heat dissipation member" in the claims. The first heat dissipation member 71 has a flat plate portion 71a and multiple fins 71b. The flat plate portion 71a abuts against the second surface 55b of the light source substrate 55 over substantially the entire surface. The multiple fins 71b are provided on the flat plate portion 71a at intervals from one another in the long axis direction (X-axis direction) of the wavelength conversion member 50. The number of fins 71b is not particularly limited. The first heat dissipation member 71 is made of a metal having excellent heat dissipation properties, such as stainless steel or aluminum.

[0051] The second heat dissipation member 72 is fixed to the back surface 32 of the support member 54 and dissipates heat from the support member 54. The second heat dissipation member 72 has a flat plate portion 72a and multiple fins 72b. The flat plate portion 72a abuts against the back surface 32 of the support member 54 over substantially the entire surface. The multiple fins 72b are provided on the flat plate portion 72a at intervals from each other in the long axis direction (X-axis direction) of the wavelength conversion member 50. The number of fins 72b is not particularly limited. The second heat dissipation member 72 is made of a metal having excellent heat dissipation properties, such as stainless steel or aluminum.

[0052] The wavelength conversion member 50 of the present embodiment includes a first protrusion 151 that protrudes from the groove 154 in the +X direction, and a second protrusion 152 that protrudes from the groove 154 in the -X direction. The holding member 65 holds the first protruding portion 151 or the second protruding portion 152 protruding from the groove portion 154 of the support member 54. Therefore, the wavelength conversion member 50 is in a state where a part of it protrudes outside the groove portion 154 of the support member 54 without contacting the wall surface of the groove portion 154. The holding member 65 holds the part of the wavelength conversion member 50 protruding outside the groove portion 154. The holding member 65, together with the pair of pressing members 90, regulates the position of the wavelength conversion member 50 with respect to the support member 54.

[0053] The pair of pressing members 90 regulate the position of the wavelength conversion member 50 in the Y-axis direction relative to the support member 54 inside the groove portion 154. The pair of pressing members 90 are disposed facing the support surface 54s of the groove portion 154. In this way, the pressing members 90 regulate the wavelength conversion member 50 from moving in the Y-axis direction inside the groove portion 154. The pressing members 90 are made of an elastically deformable material. As an example, the pressing members 90 are made of a leaf spring made of a metal material, for example, a stainless steel material such as SUS304.

[0054] The pair of pressing members 90 are disposed at positions not overlapping with the light emitting elements 56 of the light source unit 51, and press the wavelength conversion member 50 against the support surfaces 54s of the groove portions 154 of the support member 54. The pair of pressing members 90 are fixed to the support member 54.

[0055] The mirror 53 is provided on the second surface 50b of the wavelength conversion member 50. The mirror 53 guides light inside the wavelength conversion member 50 and reflects the fluorescence Y that reaches the second surface 50b. The mirror 53 is made of a metal film or a dielectric multilayer film formed on the second surface 50b of the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0056] In the first lighting device 20, when the excitation light E emitted from the light source unit 51 is incident on the wavelength conversion member 50, the phosphor contained in the wavelength conversion member 50 is excited, and the fluorescence Y is emitted from an arbitrary light-emitting point. The fluorescence Y travels in all directions from an arbitrary light-emitting point, but the fluorescence Y traveling toward the four side surfaces 50c, 50d, 50e, and 50f travels toward the first surface 50a or the second surface 50b while repeating total reflection at multiple points on the side surfaces 50c, 50d, 50e, and 50f. The first surface 50a emits the fluorescence Y that has been guided inside the wavelength conversion member 50 by being propagated by total reflection. In the case of this embodiment, the fluorescence Y traveling toward the first surface 50a is incident on the angle conversion member 52 provided on the first surface 50a. The fluorescence Y traveling toward the second surface 50b is reflected by the mirror 53 and travels toward the first surface 50a.

[0057] Of the excitation light E incident on the wavelength conversion member 50, a portion of the excitation light E that is not used to excite the phosphor is reflected by the members surrounding the wavelength conversion member 50, including the light emitting element 56 of the light source unit 51, or by the mirror 53 provided on the second surface 50b. Therefore, a portion of the excitation light E is trapped inside the wavelength conversion member 50 and reused.

[0058] The angle conversion member 52 is provided on the first surface 50a of the wavelength conversion member 50. The angle conversion member 52 is composed of, for example, a tapered rod. The angle conversion member 52 has a light incident surface 52a on which the fluorescence Y emitted from the wavelength conversion member 50 is incident, a light exit surface 52b from which the fluorescence Y exits, and a side surface 52c that reflects the incident fluorescence Y toward the light exit surface 52b.

[0059] The angle conversion member 52 has a quadrangular pyramid shape, and the cross-sectional area perpendicular to the optical axis J expands along the light traveling direction. Therefore, the area of the light exit surface 52b is larger than the area of the light incident surface 52a. The axis that passes through the centers of the light exit surface 52b and the light incident surface 52a and is parallel to the X-axis is defined as the optical axis J of the angle conversion member 52. The optical axis J of the angle conversion member 52 coincides with the optical axis AX1 of the first lighting device 20.

[0060] The fluorescence Y that has entered the angle conversion member 52 changes direction each time it is totally reflected by the side surface 52c while traveling inside the angle conversion member 52 so as to approach a direction parallel to the optical axis J. In this way, the angle conversion member 52 converts the emission angle distribution of the fluorescence Y emitted from the first surface 50a of the wavelength conversion member 50. Specifically, the angle conversion member 52 makes the maximum emission angle of the fluorescence Y on the light emission surface 52b smaller than the maximum incidence angle of the fluorescence Y on the light incidence surface 52a.

[0061] Generally, the etendue of light, which is defined as the product of the area of the light exit region and the maximum exit angle, which is the solid angle of the light, is preserved, and therefore the etendue of the fluorescence Y is preserved both before and after transmission through the angle conversion member 52. As described above, the angle conversion member 52 has a configuration in which the area of the light exit surface 52b is larger than the area of the light incident surface 52a. For this reason, from the viewpoint of etendue preservation, the angle conversion member 52 can make the maximum exit angle of the fluorescence Y on the light exit surface 52b smaller than the maximum incident angle of the fluorescence Y on the light incident surface 52a.

[0062] The angle conversion member 52 is fixed to the wavelength conversion member 50 via an optical adhesive (not shown) so that the light incident surface 52a faces the first surface 50a of the wavelength conversion member 50. That is, the angle conversion member 52 and the wavelength conversion member 50 are in contact with each other via an optical adhesive, and no gap, such as an air layer, is provided between the angle conversion member 52 and the wavelength conversion member 50. If a gap is provided between the angle conversion member 52 and the wavelength conversion member 50, the fluorescence Y that reaches the light incident surface 52a of the angle conversion member 52 and is incident on the light incident surface 52a at an angle equal to or greater than the critical angle is totally reflected by the light incident surface 52a and cannot be incident on the angle conversion member 52. In contrast, if no gap is provided between the angle conversion member 52 and the wavelength conversion member 50 as in this embodiment, the loss component of the fluorescence Y that cannot be incident on the angle conversion member 52 due to total reflection can be reduced. From this viewpoint, it is desirable to match the refractive index of the angle conversion member 52 and the refractive index of the wavelength conversion member 50 as much as possible.

[0063] A compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) may be used as the angle conversion member 52 instead of the tapered rod. Even when a CPC is used as the angle conversion member 52, the same effect as when a tapered rod is used can be obtained. Note that the light source device 100 does not necessarily have to include the angle conversion member 52.

[0064] The collimating optical system 63 is composed of a collimator lens and the like, and is provided between the light source device 100 and the integrator optical system 70. The collimating optical system 63 further narrows the angular distribution of the fluorescence Y emitted from the light source device 100, and causes the highly parallel fluorescence Y to be incident on the integrator optical system 70. Note that the collimating optical system 63 does not need to be provided when the parallelism of the fluorescence Y emitted from the angle conversion member 52 is sufficiently high.

[0065] The integrator optical system 70 has a first lens array 61 and a second lens array 101. The integrator optical system 70, together with the superimposing optical system 103, functions as a uniform illumination optical system that uniformizes the intensity distribution of the fluorescence Y emitted from the light source device 100 in each of the light modulation devices 4R and 4G, which are the illuminated regions. The fluorescence Y emitted from the collimating optical system 63 is incident on the first lens array 61. The first lens array 61, together with the second lens array 101 provided downstream of the light source device 100, constitutes the integrator optical system 70.

[0066] The first lens array 61 has a plurality of first small lenses 61a. The plurality of first small lenses 61a are arranged in a matrix in a plane parallel to the YZ plane perpendicular to the optical axis AX1 of the first illumination device 20. The plurality of first small lenses 61a split the fluorescence Y emitted from the angle conversion member 52 into a plurality of partial light beams. The shape of each of the first small lenses 61a is a rectangle that is approximately similar to the shape of the image forming areas of the light modulation devices 4R and 4G. As a result, each of the partial light beams emitted from the first lens array 61 efficiently enters the image forming areas of the light modulation devices 4R and 4G.

[0067] The fluorescence Y emitted from the first lens array 61 travels toward the second lens array 101. The second lens array 101 is disposed opposite to the first lens array 61. The second lens array 101 has a plurality of second small lenses 101a corresponding to the plurality of first small lenses 61a of the first lens array 61. The second lens array 101, together with the superimposing optical system 103, forms each of the images of the plurality of first small lenses 61a of the first lens array 61 in the vicinity of the image forming areas of the light modulation devices 4R and 4G. The plurality of second small lenses 101a are arranged in a matrix in a plane parallel to the YZ plane perpendicular to the optical axis AX1 of the first illumination device 20.

[0068] In this embodiment, the first small lenses 61a of the first lens array 61 and the second small lenses 101a of the second lens array 101 have the same size, but may have different sizes. In this embodiment, the first small lenses 61a of the first lens array 61 and the second small lenses 101a of the second lens array 101 are arranged so that their optical axes coincide with each other, but may be arranged eccentrically with each other.

[0069] The polarization conversion element 102 converts the polarization direction of the fluorescence Y emitted from the second lens array 101. Specifically, the polarization conversion element 102 converts each partial light beam of the fluorescence Y split by the first lens array 61 and emitted from the second lens array 101 into linearly polarized light.

[0070] The polarization conversion element 102 has a polarization separation layer (not shown) that transmits one linearly polarized component of the polarization components contained in the fluorescence Y emitted from the light source device 100 as is and reflects the other linearly polarized component in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis AX1, a reflection layer (not shown) that reflects the other linearly polarized component reflected by the polarization separation layer in a direction parallel to the optical axis AX1, and a phase difference plate (not shown) that converts the other linearly polarized component reflected by the reflection layer into one linearly polarized component.

[0071] The fluorescence Y transmitted through the polarization conversion element 102 is incident on the superimposing optical system 103. The superimposing optical system 103 cooperates with the integrator optical system 70 to form a uniform illumination optical system that homogenizes the intensity distribution of the fluorescence Y in each of the optical modulation devices 4R and 4G, which are the illuminated regions.

[0072] In the light source device 100 of this embodiment, when emitting the excitation light E, the light emitting element 56 of the light source unit 51 generates heat. The heat generated by the light emitting element 56 is transferred to the light source substrate 55. In the case of this embodiment, the first heat dissipation member 71 is provided on the second surface 55b of the light source substrate 55. Therefore, since the rigidity of the second surface 55b side of the light source substrate 55 is relatively high, there is a possibility that the light source substrate 55 may warp convexly toward the first surface 55a side. In addition, if the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 has a higher temperature than the second surface 55b of the light source substrate 55, there is a possibility that the light source substrate 55 may warp convexly toward the first surface 55a side. In other words, there is a possibility that the light source substrate 55 may warp toward the wavelength conversion member 50 side.

[0073] Furthermore, in the light source device 100 of this embodiment, heat generated in the wavelength conversion member 50 that emits the fluorescence Y is transferred to the support member 54. In this embodiment, the second heat dissipation member 72 is provided on the rear surface 32 of the support member 54. Therefore, since the rigidity of the rear surface 32 side of the support member 54 is relatively high, there is a possibility that the support member 54 may warp in a convex manner on the side opposite the rear surface 32. Furthermore, if the temperature of the rear surface 32 side of the support member 54 is higher than that of the second heat dissipation member 72 side, there is a possibility that the support member 54 may warp in a convex manner on the side opposite the rear surface 32. In other words, there is a possibility that the support member 54 may warp toward the light source unit 51 side.

[0074] When warping as described above occurs, the distance between the light emitting element 56 arranged on the light source substrate 55 and the wavelength conversion member 50 changes, which may prevent the excitation light E emitted from the light emitting element 56 from efficiently entering the wavelength conversion member 50. In addition, the light emitting element 56 may come into contact with the third surface 50c of the wavelength conversion member 50, which may cause chipping or damage. In contrast, the light source device 100 of the present embodiment is designed to keep the distance between the light emitting element 56 and the wavelength conversion member 50 appropriate by suppressing the occurrence of the above-mentioned warping. The features of the light source device 100 of this embodiment will be described below.

[0075] Fig. 5 is a plan view of the light source device 100 as viewed from the Y-axis direction. In Fig. 5, the light source unit 51 is indicated by a two-dot chain line for ease of viewing. Also, in Fig. 5, the light emitting element 56 is not shown. 5, the light source device 100 of the present embodiment includes a protrusion 30 that brings the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54 into contact with each other. Specifically, the protrusion 30 is provided on an opposing surface 31 of the support member 54 that faces the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55. The protrusion 30 brings the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54 into contact with each other while keeping the light emitting element 56 separate from the support member 54 and the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0076] In addition to the convex portion 30, the support member 54 has a spring fixing portion 540, a first accommodating portion 541, a second accommodating portion 542, a third accommodating portion 543, a fourth accommodating portion 544, a fifth accommodating portion 545, a sixth accommodating portion 546, a light source fixing portion 547, and a cutout portion 548.

[0077] The spring fixing parts 540 are disposed on both sides of the groove part 154 in the Z-axis direction along the short side of the wavelength conversion member 50. The spring fixing parts 540 fix both ends of the pressing member 90 disposed straddling the wavelength conversion member 50 in the Z-axis direction with screws 96. The notch parts 548 are intended to suppress interference with the connector part 58 provided on the light source board 55 when the light source part 51 is fixed to the support member 54.

[0078] The protrusions 30 are disposed closer to the inner circumference of the light source substrate 55 than the fixing portions 59. Here, the inner circumference of the light source substrate 55 than the fixing portions 59 means the inner side of an imaginary line passing through the centers of the four through holes 59a that constitute the fixing portions 59. In other words, the protrusions 30 are provided at a position closer to the center of the light source substrate 55 than the fixing portions 59.

[0079] The protrusion 30 is a protruding body that protrudes in the -Y direction from the support member 54. The protrusion 30 may be formed integrally with the support member 54, or may be composed of a member separate from the support member 54. In the case of this embodiment, the protrusion 30 is formed integrally with the support member 54.

[0080] The protrusions 30 are disposed at positions that do not overlap with the light emitting element 56 and do not abut on the wavelength conversion member 50 when viewed in a plan view in the Y direction, which is the normal direction of the opposing surface 31 of the support member 54. This configuration makes it possible to suppress the occurrence of problems such as damage to the light emitting surface 56a of the light emitting element 56 due to contact of the protrusions 30 with the light emitting surface 56a, or the protrusions 30 preventing the excitation light E emitted from the light emitting surface 56a from being incident on the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0081] According to the light source device 100 of this embodiment, the light source unit 51 and the support member 54 abut against each other via the protrusion 30 disposed between the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54. The protrusion 30 functions as a spacer that regulates the distance between the light source unit 51 and the support member 54 in the Y direction, which is the stacking direction of the light source unit 51 and the support member 54. The protrusion 30 has at least a degree of rigidity that does not deform when sandwiched between the light source unit 51 and the support member 54.

[0082] In a state where the light source substrate 55 is fixed to the support member 54, that is, in a state where the fixing portion 59 of the light source substrate 55 is fixed to the light source fixing portion 547 of the support member 54 with a screw, the protrusion 30 is inserted into the recess 60 formed in the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55. The protrusion 30 abuts against the first insulating layer 551 exposed in the recess 60.

[0083] Here, the flatness of the first insulating layer 551 covering the surface 550a of the base material 550 is higher than the flatness of the second insulating layer 553 covering the wiring layer 552. In the case of the present embodiment, the protrusions 30 abut against the first insulating layer 551, which has a flatter surface than the second insulating layer 553, and therefore the support member 54 and the light source substrate 55 are well adhered to each other via the protrusions 30.

[0084] The height in the Y direction of the protrusion 30 is greater than the height in the Y direction of the pressing member 90 that abuts against the third surface 50c of the wavelength conversion member 50. The protrusion 30 protrudes toward the light source unit 51 side beyond the pressing member 90, thereby separating the pressing member 90 from the light source unit 51. The pressing member 90 does not contact the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 of the light source unit 51. This makes it possible to suppress the occurrence of defects such as disconnection or short-circuiting of the wiring layer 552 shown in FIG. 4 caused by the pressing member 90 applying pressure to the first surface 55a.

[0085] The light source fixing portion 547 includes a plurality of pedestal portions 547a. The plurality of pedestal portions 547a correspond to the plurality of through holes 59a of the fixing portion 59 of the light source substrate 55. In other words, the number of pedestal portions 547a of the light source fixing portion 547 is the same as the number of through holes 59a of the fixing portion 59. Each pedestal portion 547a is provided with a female screw for fixing a screw inserted into the corresponding through hole 59a.

[0086] In the direction along the Y-axis, the heights of the pedestals 547a are equal, and the heights of the protrusions 30 and the heights of the pedestals 547a are approximately equal. For example, when the gap between the light-emitting surface 56a of the light-emitting element 56 and the third surface 50c of the wavelength conversion member 50 is 0.3 mm, the tolerance of the pedestals 547a and the protrusions 30 is set to ±0.1 mm or less.

[0087] In the case of the light source substrate 55 of this embodiment, as described above, the convex portion 30 abuts against the first insulating layer 551 exposed in the concave portion 60, but the first insulating layer 551 is also exposed at the fixing portions 59 to which each pedestal portion 547a of the same height as the convex portion 30 abuts. By aligning the heights of the base portion 547a and the convex portion 30 in this manner and abutting the base portion 547a and the convex portion 30 against the first insulating layer 551, the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54 are supported in a stable state without any rattling via the convex portion 30 and the light source fixing portion 547.

[0088] The effects of the protrusions 30 will now be described. Here, as a comparative example, a case where no convex portion 30 is provided will be considered. In the configuration of the comparative example, light source substrate 55 is fixed to support member 54 at fixing portion 59 provided on the outer circumferential edge portion, so that if light source substrate 55 is warped in a convex shape toward wavelength conversion member 50, the portion on the inner circumferential side of fixing portion 59 will approach wavelength conversion member 50. At this time, there is a risk that the excitation light E emitted from the light-emitting element 56 arranged on the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 may not be efficiently incident on the wavelength conversion member 50. In particular, since the central portion of the light source substrate 55, which is farthest from the fixed portion 59, is closest to the wavelength conversion member 50, there is a risk that the light-emitting element 56 may come into contact with the third surface 50c of the wavelength conversion member 50, resulting in chipping or damage.

[0089] FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the light source device 100 taken along the line VI-VI in FIG. 6, in light source device 100 of the present embodiment, light source substrate 55 and support member 54 come into contact with each other via convex portion 30 located on the inner periphery side of fixing portion 59. This prevents light source substrate 55 from warping toward wavelength conversion member 50. Thus, light source device 100 of the present embodiment can generate bright fluorescence Y by efficiently directing excitation light E to wavelength conversion member 50 by appropriately maintaining the distance between light emitting element 56 and third surface 50c of wavelength conversion member 50, and can prevent defects such as chipping and breakage due to contact between light emitting element 56 and wavelength conversion member 50.

[0090] Further, the groove 154 of the support member 54 has a U-shaped cross section perpendicular to the X-axis direction. The groove 154 has a support surface 54s, a first wall surface 54a, and a second wall surface 54b.

[0091] The support surface 54s corresponds to the bottom surface of the groove portion 154. In the case of this embodiment, the support surface 54s is a surface extending parallel to the XZ plane, and supports the fourth surface 50d of the wavelength conversion member 50. The first wall surface 54a corresponds to one side surface of the groove portion 154, faces the fifth surface 50e of the wavelength conversion member 50, and is spaced from the fifth surface 50e. That is, a gap is provided between the first wall surface 54a and the fifth surface 50e of the wavelength conversion member 50. The second wall surface 54b corresponds to the other side surface of the groove portion 154, faces the sixth surface 50f of the wavelength conversion member 50, and is spaced from the sixth surface 50f. That is, a gap is provided between the second wall surface 54b and the sixth surface 50f of the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0092] The first wall surface 54a has a first portion 54a1 located on the third surface 50c side and a second portion 54a2 located on the support surface 54s side. The first portion 54a1 extends in a direction perpendicular to the support surface 54s, i.e., parallel to the XY plane. The second portion 54a2 inclines so as to approach the fifth surface 50e from the first portion 54a1 side toward the support surface 54s side. In other words, the distance between the second portion 54a2 on the support surface 54s side and the fifth surface 50e is smaller than the distance between the second portion 54a2 on the first portion 54a1 side and the fifth surface 50e.

[0093] The second wall surface 54b has a third portion 54b3 located on the third surface 50c side and a fourth portion 54b4 located on the support surface 54s side. The third portion 54b3 extends in a direction perpendicular to the support surface 54s, i.e., parallel to the XY plane. The fourth portion 54b4 is inclined so as to approach the sixth surface 50f from the third portion 54b3 side toward the support surface 54s side. In other words, the distance between the fourth portion 54b4 and the sixth surface 50f on the support surface 54s side is smaller than the distance between the fourth portion 54b4 and the sixth surface 50f on the third portion 54b3 side.

[0094] Each of the first wall surface 54a and the second wall surface 54b is made of a surface of a metal such as aluminum or stainless steel, which is a material of the support member 54. More specifically, each of the first wall surface 54a and the second wall surface 54b is made of a processed surface that is a mirror-finished surface of the above-mentioned metal surface. Therefore, each of the first wall surface 54a and the second wall surface 54b has light reflectivity and reflects the incident excitation light E. Note that each of the first wall surface 54a and the second wall surface 54b may be made of another metal film or a dielectric multilayer film formed on a surface of a metal such as aluminum or stainless steel.

[0095] Since the first wall surface 54a and the second wall surface 54b of the groove portion 154 need to be mirror-finished as described above, the portion where the groove portion 154 is provided requires higher machining accuracy than other portions of the support member 54. For this reason, the portion of the support member 54 where the groove portion 154 is provided may be made of a separate member, and may be combined with a separate member forming the portion other than the groove portion 154 to form one support member 54. In other words, the support member 54 may be made of a combination of multiple members. In this way, since the peripheral portion of the groove portion 154 is formed of a separate member, the workability and machining accuracy of the first wall surface 54a and the second wall surface 54b of the groove portion 154 can be improved.

[0096] A dimension W1 along the Z-axis direction of the light-emitting surface 56a of the light-emitting element 56 is larger than a width B2 along the Z-axis direction of the wavelength conversion member 50. Note that the width along the Z-axis direction of the wavelength conversion member 50 in this embodiment is uniform over the entire longitudinal direction. As a result, in the Z-axis direction, both ends of the light-emitting surface 56a of the light-emitting element 56 protrude outside the third surface 50c of the wavelength conversion member 50. Specifically, both ends of the light-emitting surface 56a of the light-emitting element 56 protrude to positions overlapping the gap between the fifth surface 50e and the first wall surface 54a and the gap between the sixth surface 50f and the second wall surface 54b. In other words, when the light-emitting surface 56a is viewed along the Y-axis direction from the support surface 54s, a part of the light-emitting surface 56a overlaps with the third surface 50c, and another part of the light-emitting surface 56a overlaps with the gap between the fifth surface 50e and the first wall surface 54a and the gap between the sixth surface 50f and the second wall surface 54b.

[0097] The first width D2 of the support surface 54s of the support member 54 along the Z-axis direction is larger than the width B2 of the wavelength conversion member 50 along the Z-axis direction. As a result, both ends of the support surface 54s in the Z-axis direction protrude outside the fourth surface 50d of the wavelength conversion member 50. In other words, when the support surface 54s is viewed from the light emitting surface 56a along the Y-axis direction, a part of the support surface 54s overlaps with the fourth surface 50d, and another part of the support surface 54s is exposed outside the fourth surface 50d. In this way, the support surface 54s has an exposed portion exposed to the outside of the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0098] According to the light source device 100 of this embodiment, a part of the excitation light E2 emitted from the light emitting surface 56a of the light emitting element 56 passes through the gap between the fifth surface 50e of the wavelength conversion member 50 and the first portion 54a1, and then enters the second portion 54a2 inclined with respect to the support surface 54s. At this time, the excitation light E2 is reflected by the second portion 54a2 and enters the fifth surface 50e of the wavelength conversion member 50. In this way, the excitation light E2 passing through the gap between the fifth surface 50e of the wavelength conversion member 50 and the first wall surface 54a is easily entered into the fifth surface 50e, so that the amount of the excitation light E reflected by the support surface 54s and returning to the light source unit 51 can be reduced. In addition, a part of the excitation light E is reflected by the first portion 54a1 extending perpendicularly to the support surface 54s and enters the fifth surface 50e of the wavelength conversion member 50. This makes it possible to realize a light source device 100 in which the utilization efficiency of the excitation light E is high and fluorescence Y having a desired intensity can be easily obtained.

[0099] Returning to FIG. 5, the first accommodating portion 541 is a recess communicating with the groove portion 154 in the +X direction. The first accommodating portion 541 penetrates to the outer edge 54d of the support member 54. The first accommodating portion 541 accommodates the first protruding portion 151 of the wavelength conversion member 50 protruding from the groove portion 154. The first accommodating portion 541 also holds the angle conversion member 52 fixed to the first surface 50a of the wavelength conversion member 50. In this embodiment, the angle conversion member 52 fixed to the first surface 50a of the first protruding portion 151 is held by the support member 54. The light exit surface 52b of the angle conversion member 52 housed in the first housing portion 541 is flush with the outer edge 54d of the support member 54 in a plan view.

[0100] The second accommodating portion 542 is a recess communicating with the groove portion 154 in the -X direction. The second accommodating portion 542 penetrates to the outer edge 54d of the support member 54. The second accommodating portion 542 accommodates the second protruding portion 152 of the wavelength conversion member 50 protruding from the groove portion 154. The second accommodating portion 542 is provided in a state not communicating with the outer edge 54d of the support member 54. The second accommodating portion 542 accommodates the second protruding portion 152 of the wavelength conversion member 50 protruding from the groove portion 154. In this embodiment, the mirror 53 is provided on the second surface 50b of the second protruding portion 152. The second accommodating portion 542 accommodates the mirror 53 provided on the second surface 50b of the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0101] The third accommodating portion 543 is a recess that communicates with the first accommodating portion 541 in the +Z direction. The third accommodating portion 543 accommodates a holding member 65 that holds the +Z side of the first protruding portion 151 of the wavelength conversion member 50 accommodated in the first accommodating portion 541.

[0102] The fourth accommodating portion 544 is a recess that communicates with the first accommodating portion 541 in the -Z direction. The fourth accommodating portion 544 accommodates a holding member 65 that holds the -Z side of the first protruding portion 151 of the wavelength conversion member 50 accommodated in the first accommodating portion 541.

[0103] The fifth accommodating portion 545 is a recess that communicates with the second accommodating portion 542 in the +Z direction. The fifth accommodating portion 545 accommodates a holding member 65 that holds the +Z side of the second protrusion 152 of the wavelength conversion member 50 accommodated in the second accommodating portion 542.

[0104] The sixth accommodating portion 546 is a recess that communicates with the third accommodating portion 543 in the -Z direction. The sixth accommodating portion 546 accommodates a holding member 65 that holds the -Z side of the second protrusion 152 of the wavelength conversion member 50 accommodated in the second accommodating portion 542.

[0105] The pair of holding members 65 sandwiching the first protruding portion 151 and the second protruding portion 152 of the wavelength conversion member 50 from both sides are capable of adjusting their positions in the Z axis direction.

[0106] In this manner, the wavelength conversion member 50 of this embodiment is held within the groove portion 154 with the movement in the Z-axis direction of the first protrusion 151 and the second protrusion 152 protruding outside the groove portion 154 being restricted by the holding member 65.

[0107] As described above, the light source device 100 of the present embodiment includes the light source unit 51 having the light source substrate 55 including the first surface 55a and the second surface 55b, the light emitting element 56 provided on the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55, the wavelength conversion member 50 into which the excitation light E emitted from the light emitting element 56 of the light source unit 51 is incident, the support member 54 supporting the wavelength conversion member 50, the fixing portion 59 provided on the outer peripheral edge portion of the light source substrate 55 and fixing the light source unit 51 and the support member 54 so that the light emitting element 56 and the wavelength conversion member 50 face each other, and the convex portion 30 located on the inner peripheral side of the light source substrate 55 relative to the fixing portion 59. The support member 54 has a groove portion 154, the wavelength conversion member 50 is disposed in the groove portion 154, and the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54 abut against each other via the convex portion 30. The protrusion 30 is provided on an opposing surface 31 of the support member 54 that faces the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55, and separates the light emitting element 56 from the support member 54 and the wavelength conversion member 50.

[0108] According to light source device 100 of the present embodiment, warping of light source substrate 55 toward wavelength conversion member 50 is suppressed by providing protrusion 30, so that the distance between light emitting element 56 and third surface 50c of wavelength conversion member 50 can be appropriately maintained. As a result, bright fluorescence Y is generated by efficiently directing excitation light E to wavelength conversion member 50, and defects such as chipping and breakage caused by contact between light emitting element 56 and wavelength conversion member 50 can be suppressed. Furthermore, the light source substrate 55 having a multi-layer structure may be warped due to residual stress of an insulating layer made of, for example, a resist film. The light source device 100 of the present embodiment is also effective in suppressing defects caused by warping of the light source substrate 55 due to residual stress.

[0109] The projector 1 of the present embodiment is provided with the light source device 100 that efficiently extracts bright fluorescent light Y from the wavelength conversion member 50, and therefore has excellent light utilization efficiency.

[0110] (First Modification) A first modified example of this embodiment will be described below. 7 is a plan view showing the configuration of the main parts of the light source device of the first modified example. In the following drawings, components common to the light source device 100 of the above embodiment are given the same reference numerals, and description thereof will be omitted.

[0111] In light source device 200 of this modification, convex portion 30 is located in the -Z direction with respect to groove portion 154. Convex portion 30 is located between groove portion 154 and cutout portion 548 in the direction along the Z axis. In other words, the difference between light source device 200 of this modification and light source device 100 of the above embodiment is the position of convex portion 30, and the other configurations are the same.

[0112] In light source device 200 of this modified example, by providing convex portion 30, it is possible to suppress warping of light source substrate 55 toward wavelength conversion member 50. Therefore, it is possible to generate bright fluorescence Y and suppress the occurrence of defects due to contact between light source unit 51 and wavelength conversion member 50.

[0113] (Second Modification) A second modified example of this embodiment will now be described. 8 is a plan view showing the main configuration of the light source device of Modification 2. In the following drawings, components common to the light source device 100 of the above embodiment are given the same reference numerals, and description thereof will be omitted.

[0114] In the light source device 300 of this modification, the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54 are fixed at three locations. As shown in Fig. 8, in the light source device 200 of this modification, the fixing portion 159 of the light source substrate 55 is composed of two through holes 159a. Each through hole 159a is provided at two corners along the long side on the -Z side of the rectangular light source substrate 55. In addition, the protrusion 130 is disposed on the inner periphery side of the fixing portion 159. In the present modified example, the protrusion 130 also serves as a screw fixing portion for fixing the light source board 55 and the support member 54 with a screw. For this reason, the protrusion 130 has a screw hole 130a for fixing the screw.

[0115] In light source device 300 of this modified example, by providing convex portion 130, it is possible to suppress warping of light source substrate 55 toward wavelength conversion member 50. Therefore, it is possible to generate bright fluorescence Y and suppress the occurrence of defects due to contact between light source unit 51 and wavelength conversion member 50.

[0116] (Third Modification) A third modified example of this embodiment will now be described. 9 is a plan view showing the main configuration of the light source device of the third modified example. In the following drawings, components common to the light source device 100 of the above embodiment are given the same reference numerals, and description thereof will be omitted.

[0117] In light source device 400 of this modification, convex portion 130 of light source device 300 of the second modification is positioned in the -Z direction with respect to groove portion 154. Specifically, two through holes 159a constituting fixing portion 159 of light source substrate 55 are provided at two corners along the long side on the +Z side of rectangular light source substrate 55, respectively, and convex portion 130 is positioned between groove portion 154 and notch portion 548 in the direction along the Z axis.

[0118] In light source device 400 of this modified example, by providing convex portion 130, it is possible to suppress warping of light source substrate 55 toward wavelength conversion member 50. Therefore, it is possible to generate bright fluorescence Y and suppress the occurrence of problems due to contact between light source unit 51 and wavelength conversion member 50.

[0119] The technical scope of the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention. For example, in the light source device 100 of the above embodiment, the convex portion 30 is provided on the support member 54, but the convex portion may be provided on the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55. Alternatively, the light emitting element 56 may be spaced apart from the support member 54 and the wavelength conversion member 50 by butting the convex portions provided on the support member 54 and the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 against each other.

[0120] In the above embodiment of the light source device 100, an example was given of a case in which a pressing member 90 that presses the wavelength conversion member 50 against the support surface 54s of the groove portion 154 is provided on the support member 54, but the wavelength conversion member 50 may be pressed against the support surface 54s of the groove portion 154 by a pressing member provided on the light source substrate 55 side.

[0121] In the light source device 100 of the above embodiment, the convex portion 30 is inserted into the concave portion 60 of the light source substrate 55, but a configuration in which the convex portion abuts against the first surface 55a of the light source substrate 55 that does not have a concave portion may be adopted. In this case, the pedestal portion 547a of the support member 54 and the upper surface of the convex portion 30 may be aligned at the same height.

[0122] In the light source device 100 of the above embodiment, the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54 may be fixed to each other with screws at the protrusion 30. With this configuration, the number of fixing points between the light source substrate 55 and the support member 54 increases, so that the light source unit 51 and the support member 54 can be fixed more firmly.

[0123] In the light source device 100 of the above embodiment, the wavelength conversion member 50 has the first protrusion 151 and the second protrusion 152 in the X-axis direction, but only the first protrusion 151 may be provided. In this case, the holding member 65 is disposed only on the first protrusion 151 side.

[0124] In the above embodiment, each wall surface of the groove 154 of the support member 54 has a portion perpendicular to the support surface 54s and a portion inclined relative to the support surface 54s, but the shape of the groove 154 is not particularly limited, and for example, the entire area of the wall surface of the groove may be perpendicular to the support surface. Also, the wall surface of the groove may be curved.

[0125] In the above embodiment, the present invention is applied to a light source device equipped with a wavelength conversion member, but instead of this configuration, the present invention may be applied to a light source device that propagates incident light without wavelength conversion, and then controls the angular distribution and emits the light. In this case, the wavelength conversion member in the above embodiment replaces the light guide member, and the light emitted from the light emitting element is emitted from the angle conversion member as light of the same wavelength band.

[0126] In addition, the specific description of the shape, number, arrangement, material, etc. of each component of the light source device and the projector is not limited to the above embodiment and can be changed as appropriate. In addition, in the above embodiment, an example in which the light source device according to the present invention is mounted on a projector using a liquid crystal panel is shown, but this is not limited to this. The light source device according to the present invention may be applied to a projector using a digital micromirror device as a light modulation device. In addition, the projector does not need to have multiple light modulation devices, and may have only one light modulation device.

[0127] In the above embodiment, the wavelength conversion member 50 is pressed against the support member 54 by two pressing members 90, but the number of pressing members 90 is not limited to this. For example, when the amount of excitation light E incident on the wavelength conversion member 50 from the light emitting element 56 can be ensured, three or more pressing members 90 may be provided.

[0128] In the above embodiment, the light source device of the present invention is applied to a projector, but the present invention is not limited to this. The light source device of the present invention can also be applied to lighting fixtures, automobile headlights, and the like.

[0129] The following is a summary of this disclosure. (Appendix 1) a light source unit including a light source substrate including a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface, and a light emitting element provided on the first surface of the light source substrate; a light guide member that guides light emitted from the light emitting element of the light source unit; A support member that supports the light guide member; a fixing portion provided on an outer peripheral edge portion of the light source substrate, the fixing portion fixing the light source portion and the support member such that the light emitting element provided on the first surface of the light source substrate faces the light guiding member; a protrusion located closer to the inner periphery of the light source substrate than the fixing portion, the support member has a groove, and the light guide member is disposed in the groove, the light source substrate and the support member are in contact with each other by the protrusion, the protrusion is provided on at least one of an opposing surface of the support member facing the first surface of the light source substrate and the first surface of the light source substrate, and separates the light emitting element from the support member and the light guiding member. Light source device.

[0130] According to the light source device having this configuration, the warping of the light source substrate toward the light guide member is suppressed by providing the convex portion, so that the distance between the light emitting element and the light guide member can be appropriately maintained. A light source device as described in claim 2.

[0134] The flatness of the second insulating layer covering the wiring layer is lower than the flatness of the first insulating layer covering one surface of the base material. With this configuration, the protrusions abut against the first insulating layer, which has a flatter flatness than the second insulating layer, and therefore the support member and the light source substrate can be well adhered to each other via the protrusions.

[0137] (Appendix 5) a pressing member that presses the light guide member against the support member, The protrusion separates the pressing member from the light source unit. 5. A light source device according to any one of claims 1 to 4.

[0138] According to this configuration, the pressing member can bring the light guide member into good contact with the support surface of the groove. Also, since the pressing member does not come into contact with the light source unit, problems such as damage caused by contact between the pressing member and the light source unit can be suppressed.

[0139] (Appendix 6) the protrusion is disposed at a position not overlapping the light emitting element and not abutting the light guiding member in a plan view in a normal direction of the first surface, 6. A light source device according to any one of claims 1 to 5.

[0140] This configuration can prevent damage caused by contact between the light-emitting element and the protrusion, and the protrusion preventing light emitted from the light-emitting element from entering the light-guiding member.
