Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present disclosure relates to an apparatus and method for manufacturing a battery element formed by winding a strip-shaped electrode sheet. [Background technology]
[0002] Conventionally, there is known an apparatus for manufacturing a battery element by winding a strip-shaped electrode sheet. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a winding apparatus for winding an electrode sheet and a separator at a predetermined length. This winding apparatus includes a rotating body, a cutting means, a chuck, a laser sensor, and a correction actuator.
[0003] The rotating body winds up the electrode sheet. The cutting means includes a blade portion and a base portion. The cutting means cuts the electrode sheet between the terminal end of the electrode sheet wound around the rotating body and the starting end of the electrode sheet to be wound next. The chuck is capable of gripping the electrode sheet at a position upstream of the cutting means. The chuck supplies the starting end of the electrode sheet to the rotating body by gripping the starting end of the electrode sheet and moving toward the rotating body. The laser sensor detects the position of the starting end of the electrode sheet. The correction actuator adjusts the position of the chuck based on the detected position of the starting end of the electrode sheet so as to correct a positional deviation in the width direction of the starting end of the electrode sheet relative to the rotating body. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]
[0004] [Patent Document 1] Patent No. 5595309 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0005] In the winding device, when the electrode sheet is cut by the cutting means, the chuck is disposed upstream of the cutting means. Therefore, when the chuck grips the starting end and moves toward the rotating body, the blade portion and the base portion of the cutting means move to retracted positions vertically apart from each other. The chuck passes between the blade portion and the base portion and moves to the rotating body.
[0006] In the above-mentioned winding device, the blade and base of the cutting means move significantly to their respective retracted positions so that the chuck can pass between the blade and base. This results in an increase in size of the winding device. In addition, since the distance between the blade and base is large, it is difficult to align the blade and base. If the accuracy of aligning the blade and base is reduced, the manufacturing quality of the battery element is reduced. The object of the present disclosure is to reduce the size of the manufacturing device for the battery element and to improve the manufacturing quality of the battery element. [Means for solving the problem]
[0007] A manufacturing apparatus according to an aspect of the present disclosure is an apparatus for manufacturing a battery element formed by winding a strip-shaped electrode sheet. The manufacturing apparatus includes a winding mechanism, a cutting device, an upstream chuck, a downstream chuck, a start end position sensor, and a correction actuator. The winding mechanism winds the electrode sheet. The cutting device cuts the electrode sheet at a boundary between a terminal end of the wound electrode sheet and a start end of the electrode sheet to be next wound by the winding mechanism. The upstream chuck can hold the electrode sheet at a position upstream of the cutting device. The downstream chuck can hold the electrode sheet at a position downstream of the cutting device. The downstream chuck holds the start end and moves in a transport direction toward the winding mechanism to transport the start end to a winding start position by the winding mechanism. The start end position sensor detects the position of the start end in the width direction. The correction actuator adjusts the position of the downstream chuck to correct a positional deviation of the start end in the width direction relative to the winding mechanism.
[0008] A manufacturing method according to one aspect of the present disclosure is a method for manufacturing a battery element formed by winding a strip-shaped electrode sheet. The manufacturing method includes winding the electrode sheet by a winding mechanism, cutting the electrode sheet by a cutting device at a boundary between an end of the wound electrode sheet and a start of the electrode sheet to be wound next, gripping the electrode sheet by an upstream chuck at a position upstream of the cutting device, gripping the electrode sheet by a downstream chuck at a position downstream of the cutting device, gripping the start of the electrode sheet by the downstream chuck and moving the start of the electrode sheet in a conveying direction toward the winding mechanism to convey the start of the electrode sheet to a winding start position by the winding mechanism, detecting a position of the start of the electrode sheet in the width direction, and correcting a positional deviation of the start of the electrode sheet in the width direction relative to the winding mechanism by adjusting the position of the downstream chuck. Effect of the Invention
[0009] According to the present disclosure, the downstream chuck grips the electrode sheet at a position downstream of the cutting device. Therefore, even if the downstream chuck does not significantly retract the cutting device when transporting the starting end to the winding mechanism, the downstream chuck is prevented from interfering with the cutting device. This makes it possible to reduce the size of the battery element manufacturing device and improve the manufacturing quality of the battery element. [Brief description of the drawings]

The winding actuator 15 includes, for example, a motor. Alternatively, the winding actuator 15 may include another actuator. The winding actuator 15 rotates the winding core 7 to wind the positive electrode sheet 3, the first separator sheet 4, the negative electrode sheet 5, and the second separator sheet 6 around the winding core 7. Note that the first separator sheet 4, the negative electrode sheet 5, and the second separator sheet 6 are omitted in FIG. 3.
[0020] The first supply device 12 supplies the positive electrode sheet 3 to the winding mechanism 14. As shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 4, the first supply device 12 includes a cutting device 20, an upstream chuck 21, a downstream chuck 22, a start end position sensor 23, and a correction actuator 24. The cutting device 20 cuts the positive electrode sheet 3 at the boundary between the terminal end of the positive electrode sheet 3 wound around the winding mechanism 14 and the starting end of the positive electrode sheet 3 to be next wound by the winding mechanism 14. The cutting device 20 includes a blade portion 30, a base portion 31, a first cutting actuator 32, and a second cutting actuator 33.
[0021] The blade portion 30 and the base portion 31 are disposed facing each other. The positive electrode sheet 3 extends between the blade portion 30 and the base portion 31. The blade portion 30 and the base portion 31 are each movable in the up-down direction. The up-down direction means a direction perpendicular to the positive electrode sheet 3. The blade portion 30 and the base portion 31 are each movable in the conveying direction of the positive electrode sheet 3 and in the direction opposite to the conveying direction. The conveying direction is a direction from the first supply device 12 toward the winding mechanism 14, as indicated by an arrow X1 in FIG. 3.
[0022] The first cutting actuator 32 moves the blade 30 and the base 31 between a cutting position and a retracted position. The blade 30 and the base 31 cut the positive electrode sheet 3 at the cutting position. The blade 30 and the base 31 move away from the positive electrode sheet 3 in the up-down direction at the retracted position. The first cutting actuator 32 includes, for example, a motor or a cylinder.
[0023] The second cutting actuator 33 moves the blade 30 and the base 31 in the conveying direction and in the direction opposite to the conveying direction. The second cutting actuator 33 includes, for example, a motor or a cylinder. Alternatively, the first cutting actuator 32 and the second cutting actuator 33 may each include another actuator.
[0024] The upstream chuck 21 can grip the positive electrode sheet 3 at a position upstream of the cutting device 20. The upstream chuck 21 includes a pad 34, an upstream roller 35, and a chuck actuator 36. The pad 34 and the upstream roller 35 are disposed upstream of the cutting device 20. The pad 34 and the upstream roller 35 are disposed facing each other. The positive electrode sheet 3 extends between the pad 34 and the upstream roller 35. The pad 34 is movable in the up and down directions.
[0025] The upstream roller 35 supports the positive electrode sheet 3. The upstream roller 35 is rotatably supported. The upstream roller 35 is rotatable in a forward rotation direction corresponding to the conveying direction and in a reverse rotation direction opposite to the forward rotation direction. The chuck actuator 36 moves the pad 34 between a gripping position and a release position. The pad 34 and the upstream roller 35 grip the positive electrode sheet 3 at the gripping position. At the release position, the pad 34 moves away from the positive electrode sheet 3 in the vertical direction. The chuck actuator 36 includes, for example, a motor or a cylinder. Alternatively, the chuck actuator 36 may include another actuator.
[0026] The downstream chuck 22 is capable of gripping the positive electrode sheet 3 at a position downstream of the cutting device 20. The downstream chuck 22 grips a starting end of the positive electrode sheet 3 and moves in the transport direction to transport the starting end to a winding start position by the winding mechanism 14. The downstream chuck 22 includes a pair of downstream rollers 37, 38, a first chuck actuator 39, and a second chuck actuator 40.
[0027] The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 are disposed downstream of the cutting device 20. The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 are disposed facing each other. The positive electrode sheet 3 extends between the pair of downstream rollers 37, 38. The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 are each movable in the up and down direction. The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 are also movable in the conveying direction and in the direction opposite to the conveying direction. The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 are each supported rotatably. The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 are each rotatable only in a forward rotation direction corresponding to the conveying direction, and cannot be rotated in a reverse rotation direction opposite to the forward rotation direction.
[0028] The first chuck actuator 39 moves the pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 between a gripping position and a release position. The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 grip the positive electrode sheet 3 at the gripping position. The pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 move away from the positive electrode sheet 3 in the vertical direction at the release position. The first chuck actuator 39 includes, for example, a motor or a cylinder.
[0029] The second chuck actuator 40 moves the pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 in the conveying direction and in the direction opposite to the conveying direction. The second chuck actuator 40 includes, for example, a motor or a cylinder. Alternatively, the first chuck actuator 39 and the second chuck actuator 40 may include other actuators.
[0030] The starting end position sensor 23 detects the position in the width direction of the starting end 3A of the positive electrode sheet 3. The starting end position sensor 23 is disposed downstream of the cutting device 20. The starting end position sensor 23 is disposed between the cutting device 20 and the winding mechanism 14 in the transport direction of the positive electrode sheet 3. The starting end position sensor 23 is, for example, a laser type displacement sensor. Alternatively, the starting end position sensor 23 may be another type of displacement sensor, such as a magnetic type or an ultrasonic type.
[0031] The correction actuator 24 corrects the positional deviation of the starting end 3A in the width direction relative to the winding mechanism 14 by adjusting the position of the downstream chuck 22. As shown in Fig. 4, the pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 are movable in the width direction of the positive electrode sheet 3. The correction actuator 24 moves the pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 in the width direction.
[0032] 4, when the starting end 3A of the positive electrode sheet 3 is misaligned in the width direction from the normal position P1, the starting end position sensor 23 detects the direction and amount of misalignment. The correction actuator 24 corrects the misalignment of the starting end 3A in the width direction by moving a pair of downstream rollers 37, 38 gripping the starting end 3A in the direction opposite to the misalignment direction by the amount of misalignment.
[0033] The actuators 15, 24, 32, 33, 36, 39, 40 and the start end position sensor 23 are communicatively connected to the controller 10. The controller 10 controls the actuators 15, 24, 32, 33, 36, 39, 40 by transmitting command signals to the actuators 15, 24, 32, 33, 36, 39, 40. The controller 10 also receives a detection signal indicating the amount and direction of deviation of the start end 3A from the start end position sensor 23. The controller 10 corrects the position deviation of the start end 3A in the width direction by controlling the correction actuator 24 based on the amount and direction of deviation of the start end 3A.
[0034] The second supplying device 13 has a similar configuration to the first supplying device 12. The second supplying device 13 is controlled by the controller 10, similar to the first supplying device 12. Thereby, the manufacturing apparatus 1 manufactures the battery element 2. Hereinafter, the manufacturing process of the battery element 2 by the manufacturing apparatus 1 will be described.
[0035] First, the leading end of the first separator sheet 4 and the leading end of the second separator sheet 6 are attached to the winding core 7. Then, the winding mechanism 14 rotates the winding core 7, whereby the first separator sheet 4 and the second separator sheet 6 are wound around the winding core 7.
[0036] Next, in an electrode supplying step described below, the starting end 3A of the first electrode sheet and the starting end 3A of the second electrode sheet are transported to a winding start position. For example, the starting end 3A of the first electrode sheet and the starting end 3A of the second electrode sheet are sandwiched between the first separator sheet 4 or the second separator sheet 6 at the winding start position, and are wound around the winding core 7 together with the first separator sheet 4 and the second separator sheet 6. This starts the winding step.
[0037] 3, in the winding step, the upstream chuck 21 and the downstream chuck 22 are both located at the release position. The cutting device 20 is located at the retracted position. In this state, the manufacturing apparatus 1 causes the winding device to rotate the winding core 7, thereby overlapping the positive electrode sheet 3, the first separator sheet 4, the negative electrode sheet 5, and the second separator sheet 6 on one another and winding them around the winding core 7.
[0038] When the positive electrode sheet 3 and the negative electrode sheet 5 are wound by a predetermined length, the manufacturing apparatus 1 ends the winding process and starts the cutting process. In the cutting process, the rotation of the winding core 7 by the winding mechanism 14 is stopped. FIGS. 5A to 5D are diagrams showing the operation of the first supply device 12 in the cutting process. In the cutting process, first, as shown in FIG. 5A, the downstream chuck 22 moves to the gripping position. As a result, the downstream chuck 22 grips the positive electrode sheet 3 at a position downstream of the cutting device 20.
[0039] Next, as shown in Fig. 5B, the upstream chuck 21 moves to the gripping position. As a result, the upstream chuck 21 grips the positive electrode sheet 3 at a position upstream of the cutting device 20. As shown in Fig. 5C, the cutting device 20 cuts the positive electrode sheet 3 in a state in which the positive electrode sheet 3 is gripped by the upstream chuck 21 and the downstream chuck 22. The cutting device 20 cuts the positive electrode sheet 3 at the boundary between the end portion 3B of the positive electrode sheet 3 wound around the winding mechanism 14 and the start portion 3A of the positive electrode sheet 3 to be wound next.
[0040] When the positive electrode sheet 3 is cut, the downstream chuck 22 moves to a release position and the cutting device 20 moves to a retracted position, as shown in FIG. 5D. The upstream chuck 21 grips the positive electrode sheet 3 at a position upstream of the cutting device 20. The winding mechanism 14 then rotates the winding core 7, thereby winding the terminal end 3B of the electrode sheet onto the winding core 7. The second supply device 13 operates in the same manner as the first supply device 12 described above. As a result, the positive electrode sheet 3, the first separator sheet 4, the negative electrode sheet 5, and the second separator sheet 6 are wound into a cylindrical shape, thereby producing the battery element 2.
[0041] When the cutting step is completed, the manufacturing apparatus 1 replaces the winding core 7 around which the battery element 2 is wound with the next winding core 7. For example, the manufacturing apparatus 1 includes an exchange device (not shown), which replaces the winding core 7 around which the battery element 2 is wound with the next winding core 7. As a result, the next winding core 7 is placed in the winding mechanism 14.
[0042] Next, the manufacturing apparatus 1 starts the electrode supplying step. FIGS. 6A to 6D are diagrams showing the operation of the first supplying device 12 in the electrode supplying step. In the electrode supplying step, as shown in FIG. 6A, the cutting device 20 and the downstream chuck 22 move in the direction opposite to the conveying direction. That is, the cutting device 20 and the downstream chuck 22 move so as to approach the upstream chuck 21. Then, as shown in FIG. 6B, the downstream chuck 22 moves to the gripping position. As a result, the downstream chuck 22 grips the positive electrode sheet 3 at a position downstream of the cutting device 20.
[0043] Next, as shown in FIG. 6C, the upstream chuck 21 moves to the release position. This releases the positive electrode sheet 3 from the grip of the upstream chuck 21. Then, as shown in FIG. 6D, the downstream chuck 22 moves in the transport direction while gripping the positive electrode sheet 3. At this time, the start end position sensor 23 detects the amount and direction of deviation of the start end 3A in the width direction. The correction actuator 24 corrects the positional deviation of the start end 3A in the width direction based on the amount and direction of deviation. This allows the start end 3A of the positive electrode sheet 3 to be supplied to the winding start position with high accuracy.
[0044] At the winding start position, the starting end 3A of the first electrode sheet is wound around the winding core 7 together with the first separator sheet 4. At this time, the cutting device 20 moves in the conveying direction and returns to the position in the winding process shown in Fig. 3. The downstream chuck 22 moves to the release position and also moves in the direction opposite to the conveying direction and returns to the position in the winding process shown in Fig. 3. This restarts the winding process described above.
[0045] The second supply device 13 operates in the same manner as the first supply device 12 described above. As a result, the starting end of the second electrode sheet is supplied to the winding start position. Then, the starting end of the second electrode sheet is wound around the winding core 7 together with the second separator sheet 6.
[0046] In the manufacturing apparatus 1 for the battery element 2 according to the present embodiment described above, in the electrode supplying step, the downstream chuck 22 grips the positive electrode sheet 3 at a position downstream of the cutting device 20. Therefore, when the downstream chuck 22 transports the starting end 3A to the winding mechanism 14, the downstream chuck 22 is prevented from interfering with the cutting device 20 even if the cutting device 20 is not significantly retracted. This allows the manufacturing apparatus 1 for the battery element 2 to be made more compact.
[0047] 3, when the cutting device 20 is in the retracted position, the distance between the blade portion 30 and the base portion 31 may be smaller than the downstream chuck 22. The distance between the blade portion 30 and the base portion 31 may be small enough not to contact the positive electrode sheet 3. Therefore, by improving the accuracy of alignment between the blade portion 30 and the base portion 31, the quality of cutting the positive electrode sheet 3 is improved.
[0048] In the cutting step, the cutting device 20 cuts the positive electrode sheet 3 while the positive electrode sheet 3 is being held by the upstream chuck 21 and the downstream chuck 22. This reduces bending of the positive electrode sheet 3 during cutting, thereby improving the quality of the cutting of the positive electrode sheet 3.
[0049] The start end position sensor 23 is disposed downstream of the cutting device 20. Therefore, the start end position sensor 23 can detect the widthwise position of the start end 3A at a position closer to the core 7 than when the start end position sensor 23 is disposed upstream of the cutting device 20. This improves the accuracy of correcting the positional deviation of the start end 3A.
[0050] After cutting the positive electrode sheet 3, the cutting device 20 moves in the direction opposite to the conveying direction before the downstream chuck 22 grips the starting end 3A. This prevents the downstream chuck 22 from interfering with the cutting device 20, and ensures that the downstream chuck 22 can grip the positive electrode sheet 3.
[0051] The effects of the manufacturing apparatus 1 according to this embodiment achieved by the first supply device 12 have been described above, but the second supply device 13 can also achieve the same effects as those achieved by the first supply device 12 described above.
[0052] Although one embodiment of the present invention has been described above, the present invention is not limited to the above embodiment, and various modifications are possible without departing from the gist of the invention.
[0053] The configurations of the guide mechanism 11, the first supply device 12, the second supply device 13, and the winding mechanism 14 are not limited to those in the above embodiment and may be changed. For example, the arrangement and number of guide rollers in the guide mechanism 11 are not limited to those in the above embodiment and may be changed.
[0054] In the first supply device 12, the structure of the downstream chuck 22 is not limited to that of the above embodiment and may be modified. For example, the downstream chuck 22 may grip the positive electrode sheet 3 by other members such as a pad, not limited to a roller. The structure of the upstream chuck 21 is not limited to that of the above embodiment and may be modified. For example, the upstream chuck 21 may grip the positive electrode sheet 3 by other members such as a pair of rollers. [Industrial Applicability]
