Abstract
Description
Reference to corresponding application
[0001] This application claims priority to the earlier European patent application No. 22167384.1, filed on April 8, 2022 in the name of AISAPACK HOLDING SA, the contents of which are incorporated by reference in their entirety into this application. [Technical field]
[0002] The present invention is in the field of packaging based on biological and / or biodegradable and / or recyclable materials, more particularly packaging with reduced environmental impact. The invention applies in the field of packaging with a tubular body made from sheets, in particular in the field of recyclable flexible tubes for containing cream or paste products, in the field of bottles for cosmetics, in the field of cylindrical packaging (tins, flexible pouches) for containing liquid or dry products. [Background technology]
[0003] Packaging for containing liquid, semi-liquid, cream or paste products is known, for example, from US 2018 / 361412 A1, WO 2022 / 047527 A1, EP 3048064 A1, EP 3162732 A1, Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 7-45088 A1, and US 2017 / 253387 A1.
[0004] For example, US Patent Application Publication No. 2018 / 361412 discloses a refillable container including an outer container with an opening formed at the top, a cover for closing the opening of the outer container, an inner container for storing liquid, and a dispense pump provided on the cover. The dispense pump is configured to suck up the liquid content in the inner container and discharge the liquid content to the outside of the refillable container. In this refillable container, the inner container is housed in the outer container and can be replaced when the liquid content is used up.
[0005] WO 2022 / 047527 discloses a fluid dispensing container having a refillable bag. The container includes a reusable container body, a refillable fluid dispenser assembly, and a removable bag unit. The bag unit can be replaced with a replacement bag. Specifically, this publication discloses a refillable fluid dispensing container, the container including an openable container body and a dispenser assembly fastenable to the container body to close the container. The container further includes a bag unit having a dispensing outlet. The dispensing outlet is attachable to the dispenser assembly for refilling the container with a replacement bag unit containing a fluid, whereby the bag unit is housed in the container body.
[0006] EP 3048064 A1 discloses a piercing assembly attached to a flexible container, whereby the wall of the flexible container is drawn into contact with a piercing element and the contents of the container are dispensed by piercing the wall of the container with an assembly having a fluid transfer device.
[0007] EP 3162732 A1 discloses a refillable container that allows easy refilling when the liquid content is used up. The refillable container includes an outer container, a cover member, an inner container, and a pump. The outer container has an opening at the top and is made of plastic. The cover member is configured to close the opening of the outer container and is made of plastic. The inner container is made of paper and configured to store the liquid content therein, and is housed in the outer container so that it can be replaced when the liquid content is used up. The pump is provided in the cover member and configured to suck up the liquid content in the inner container stored in the outer container and discharge it to the outside of the refillable container. When the opening of the outer container is closed by the cover member, a suction tube of the pump located below the cover member is inserted into the inner container through a suction port formed on the upper surface of the inner container.
[0008] Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 7-45088 discloses a dispenser having a freely replaceable refill, which is housed within the container body of the container.
[0009] US 2017 / 253387 discloses a compressible dispensing tube made of bioplastics. The dispensing tube includes a compressible tube having a wall including a bioplastic material, a sealed distal end of the tube, a proximal end of the tube opposite the distal end and having an opening, a nozzle over the opening, and a closure for the nozzle. When the closure is opened and the tube is compressed, flowable material within the tube is forced out of the nozzle.
[0010] As mentioned above, the known container comprises several parts, in particular a container body, a container lid, and a replaceable part containing the product, where the replaceable part is placed in the container body and then closed by the container lid. The known container is complex and difficult to disassemble when the refillable part has to be replaced, because the container lid has to be separated from the container body to take out the refillable or replaceable part of the product. Then, once this part has been replaced, the container has to be reassembled. This alone takes time and requires many operations by the user. As the product comprises several parts (container body, lid, replaceable part, etc.), the overall manufacturing cost of the product is also high. Summary of the Invention
[0011] It is therefore an object of the present invention to improve known products and methods.
[0012] Another object of the present invention is to provide a product, such as a package, with replaceable parts that are simple to operate and easily replaceable.
[0013] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a package that is simple to operate and inexpensive to manufacture.
[0014] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a package that is also simple and easy to recycle.

[0025] According to a third exemplary embodiment of the invention, the shoulder is provided with connecting means combining guide means and controlled drilling means.
[0026] According to an embodiment of the invention, the connection means is assembled to a structural layer of the shoulder.
[0027] According to another embodiment of the invention, the connection means is part of the structural layer of the shoulder.
[0028] According to another embodiment, the connection means combine means assembled to the structural layer of the shoulder with means forming part of the structural layer of the shoulder.
[0029] In some embodiments, the present invention relates to a package comprising a refill in the form of a tubular body and a reusable cap that gives the package functionality, the refill forming the body of the package and the refill comprising connecting means that cooperate with the connecting means of the cap to ensure closure and sealing of the package when the refill and the cap are combined, the connecting means of the refill being minimal and the connecting means of the cap being complex.
[0030] In an embodiment, the connection means of the refill is affixed to the refill by overmolding, clipping or welding and includes an opening.
[0031] In an embodiment, the connection means of the refill is created by controlled piercing means, for example a pierce-facilitating zone.
[0032] In an embodiment, the connection means is a combination of attachment means with an opening and pierce-facilitating means or zone.

[0063] The invention relates to a packaging comprising a reusable system 3 and a refill 2 based on recyclable or biodegradable materials or made from renewable resources.
[0064] According to a preferred embodiment, the refill 2 is cellulose-based and has a cellulose content that allows it to be recycled in the paper industry. Advantageously, the cellulose content of the refill 2 is greater than 70%, preferably greater than 85% and ideally greater than 90%.
[0065] According to another embodiment, the refill 2 is based on a biodegradable resin. Biodegradable resins are preferred for small volumes of the refill 2, where collection, sorting and recycling operations result in an unfavourable carbon balance. According to another aspect, the refill 2 is based on a recyclable or recycled resin. Preferably, the refill 2 is based on high density polyethylene or polypropylene.
[0066] An embodiment of the present invention is shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 shows a tube 1 for containing and dispensing a viscous or pasty product, such as for example a cream for body care or a toothpaste for oral hygiene.
[0067] According to the invention, a tube 1 is obtained by connecting a recyclable or biodegradable refill 2 with a reusable system 3, called a cap in the detailed description of the invention. The reusable cap 3 provides functions such as opening and closing the package, dispensing the product, connectivity with the refill and ease of use.
[0068] The refill 2 shown in Figure 1 comprises a tubular body 4. The tubular body 4 may have a longitudinal weld 5 resulting from the manufacturing process and has a shoulder 6 built into one end of the tubular body 4. A second end of the refill 2 is closed by flattening the second end of the tubular body 4 and welding it to form a terminal weld 17.
[0069] According to the invention, the refill 2 comprises a connection means 7 which cooperates with a connection means 8 of the cap 3. The connection means 7 of the refill is minimal, e.g. comprises a minimal number of parts and / or the smallest possible parts, in order to enable recycling of the refill and to reduce its carbon footprint. In contrast, the connection means 8 of the cap 3 may be complex, since this part of the packaging is destined for reuse. By the fact that the connection means 8 may be complex, it is meant that the connection means 8 may comprise several parts and / or that the size of these parts may not be minimal.
[0070] According to the invention, the reusable system 3 (also called "cap") is part of the rigid packaging and ensures, by way of example only, the opening and closing functions of the packaging or even the dispensing functions. According to the invention, other functions of high added value can be integrated into the reusable system 3. Thus, depending on the application, a mirror, a temperature sensor or even an interactive sensor can be integrated into the cap 3, for example to guarantee the authenticity of the product and / or to interact with a smartphone to inform the consumer. Thus, according to the invention, the packaging part 3 with high added value can be reused multiple times, which significantly reduces the environmental impact of the packaging.
[0071] According to the invention, the reusable system 3 comprises at least a connection means 8 paired with the connection means 7 of the refill. According to the invention, in order to minimize the ecological impact of the packaging, the connection means 7 of the refill 2 are minimal and the complexity of the connection system is transferred to the reusable system or part 3 of the packaging. Thus, according to the invention, the refill 2 comprises what is strictly necessary at the level of the connection means 7, examples of which are given later in the detailed description of the invention.
[0072] Figure 2 shows a first embodiment of the invention, according to which the connection means 7 of the refill 2 comprises guide means, for example an opening 18, which cooperate with the connection means 8 of the cap 3 during assembly.
[0073] The refill 2 shown in Figure 2 comprises a tubular body 4 assembled to a shoulder 6 by welding. The structural layer 10 forming the shoulder 6 and the structural layer of the tubular body 4 have similar or identical compositions to allow recycling of the refill 2. Thin functional layers can be used on the inside of the tubular body and shoulder to provide barrier properties (gas, liquids) required for preservation of the packaged product, as well as manufacturability of the refill 2 (e.g. weldability of the body 4 to the shoulder 6).
[0074] The upper part of the refill 2 depicted in FIG. 2 comprises a connection means 7 for cooperating with the connection means 8 of the reusable cap 3. In particular, the connection means 7 is applied by overmolding, or clipping, or welding, or other equivalent means, to the structural layer 10. The connection means 7 has an opening 18 intended to guide the connection means 8 of the cap 3 during assembly. This connection means has a geometry that allows the fixation of the cap 3 by clipping and that ensures a tight seal between the cap 3 and the refill 2. A cover 11 is welded to the outer surface of the connection means 7 in order to close the opening 18 and to seal the refill before opening. The cover 11 also serves as a tamper-evident indicator of the refill. The cover 11 can be removed, for example by peeling, before assembling the cap 3 or can be perforated by the assembly of the cap 3. In one embodiment, the connection means shown in FIG. 2 comprises a thread for screwing the cap 3 into the assembly.
[0075] The connecting means 7 shown in Fig. 2 is also used to protect the edge of the structural layer 10 at the level of the opening at the shoulder 6. This protection is particularly suitable when the refill is based on cellulose or on materials sensitive to moisture or liquid products. Equivalent means not shown, for example a welded barrier layer, can be used to protect the edge 12 of the structural layer 10 at the shoulder 6.
[0076] Fig. 3 shows a refill 2 with a connection means 7 fixed on the outer surface of the refill, i.e. on the shoulder 6. Preferably, the connection means 7 is assembled by welding or other equivalent means. The connection means 7 comprises a threaded hole 18 allowing the cap 3 to be screwed on during assembly. When the cap 3 is screwed on, the functional layer 16 forming the inner layer of the refill is pierced by the connection means 8 of the cap 3. The functional layer 16 covering the inner surface of the refill and ensuring the preservation of the product before opening is pierced by the connection means 8 of the cap 3. In another embodiment, the connection means 7 shown in Fig. 3 comprises a non-threaded opening for assembly by clipping on the cap 3.
[0077] 4 shows another embodiment, according to which the connection means 7 is fixed on the inner surface of the refill at the shoulder 6. Preferably, the connection means 7 is fixed by welding or other equivalent means. The connection means 7 is provided with an opening which serves as a guide for the connection means 8 of the cap 3, as mentioned in the previous embodiment, and allows assembly by screwing or clipping.
[0078] According to a preferred embodiment, the refill 2 shown in figures 2 to 4 is based on cellulose and comprises a connection means 7 which allows to guide and fix the connection means of the cap. The refill 2 comprises a tubular body 4 which is connected by welding or gluing to a shoulder 6 which closes one end of said tubular body. The shoulder 6 comprises a connection means 7 and optionally a cover 11. The connection means 7 are for example means facilitating screwing or clipping. During the operation of connecting the refill 2 to a reusable system or part 3, the cover 11 is removed or pierced by the connection device 8. In the example shown in figure 4, the refill 2 is mainly composed of a structural layer 10 based on cellulose. This means that the refill 2 can be recycled in the paper industry at the end of its life. The refill 2 can also comprise a functional layer (not shown), for example of low thickness, which allows the preservation of sensitive products in the packaging (impermeability to liquids, gases, etc.).
[0079] Figure 5 shows another embodiment of the invention. According to this embodiment, the connection means 7 and the structural layer 10 of the shoulder 6 are formed from a single and same layer. This embodiment is particularly suitable for the manufacture of refills with biodegradable or recycled resins, the shoulder 6 of which can be injection or compression moulded. Thus, for example, for refills 2 made of polyethylene or polypropylene, this embodiment is preferred.
[0080] Figure 6 shows another embodiment of the invention. According to this embodiment, the refill 2 comprises controlled perforation means 14 which cooperate with the connecting means 8 of the cap. According to this embodiment, the structural layer 10 of the shoulder comprises controlled perforation means 14 which cooperate with the connecting means 8 of the cap 3. The controlled perforation means 14 are for example oriented tear lines, partial perforations or partial die lines. These controlled perforation means 14 are made in a known manner, for example mechanically using a cutting or punching tool, for example by a laser beam (which makes it possible to select the layer to be cut) or by any other comparable process making it possible to obtain such a result.
[0081] 7 shows an embodiment of the refill 2 with controlled perforation means 14. According to this embodiment, only the structural layer 10 has the controlled perforation means 14, and the reduced thickness of the inner and outer functional layers 16 covering the controlled perforation zones 14 retain their integrity, thereby ensuring the preservation of the packaged product.
[0082] Figure 8 shows another example of a refill 2 with controlled perforation means 14. In this example, an outer functional layer 16 covers the controlled perforation zone 14 and provides the barrier properties of the wrapper. According to another example, not shown, the functional layer 16 is arranged only on the inner surface of the wrapper. This embodiment corresponds to Figure 7 with the layer 16 shown in Figure 8 removed.
[0083] 9 shows another example of a refill with controlled perforation means 14. In this example, the perforation of the thin functional layer 16 is controlled by the diameter of the opening 18 made in the structural layer 10.
[0084] According to a preferred embodiment, the refill 2 shown in figures 6 to 9 is based on cellulose and comprises a connection means 7 with controlled perforation means 14. The controlled perforation means 14 are made for example by partial pre-cut lines or partial perforations. The connection means 7 of the refill is paired with the perforation and connection means 8 of the reusable system 3 of the packaging 1.
[0085] 10 is a plan view of another refill embodiment with guide means 7 and controlled perforation means 14 to facilitate connection with cap 3. This refill comprises guide means 7 to facilitate connection and sealing with cap 3, and controlled perforation means 14 in the form of a directed tear vector.
[0086] 11 shows another embodiment of the refill with guide means 7 fixed to the upper surface of the structural layer 10 of the shoulder 6. A cover 11, which is removed during connection, closes an opening 18 in the guide means 7. Preferably, the guide means 7 comprises an internal thread on the inside of the opening for screwing the connection means 8 of the cap 3. Alternatively, the opening 18 is smooth and the cap 3 is fixed by clipping. The controlled perforation means 14 is arranged in the structural layer 10 of the shoulder 6.
[0087] Figure 12 shows an embodiment of a bottle 1 formed by a refill 2 and a reusable metering pump 3. The refill 2 comprises a base 15, a tubular body 4 and a shoulder 9, which comprises a connection means 7. The reusable system 3, which performs at least the metering and opening and closing functions, also comprises a connection means 8 paired with the connection means 7. In the example shown in Figure 12, the reusable part 3 of the package comprises a metering pump for controlling the amount of product dispensed.
[0088] According to the invention shown in figures 1 to 12, the refill 2 is preferably based on cellulose and is recycled in the paper industry. Alternatively, the refill 2 is made of polyethylene, such as HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), and is recycled in the HDPE sector. According to another example, the refill is made of PP (Polypropylene) and is recycled in the PP sector. The refill 2 is formed of a tubular body 4 and comprises at least connection means 7 making it possible to couple this refill to a reusable system 3.
[0089] According to the invention, the tubular body 4 is preferably made by welding or gluing cellulose-based sheets. The tubular body 4 is preferably made using an outer band and an inner band connecting the two ends of the sheets arranged end-to-end. These tubular bodies and their manufacturing methods are described, for example, in EP 2007567, EP 2004389, EP 2004506 and EP 2630052. Alternatively, if the refill is based on a resin such as polyethylene or polypropylene, the tubular body 4 can be made by butt welding with inner and / or outer bands or by coating both ends of the sheets. Alternatively, the tubular body can be extruded.
[0090] According to the invention, the connection means 7 comprises guide means and / or assembly means by screwing or clipping and / or sealing means with the connection means 8 of the reusable system 3. The connection means 7 is preferably manufactured by moulding in order to provide the necessary tolerances for the assembly requirements. The connection means 7 is therefore preferably made from a moulded resin such as polyethylene, polypropylene, PVOH or a biodegradable resin. The choice of resin is made depending on the nature of the refill. For example, if the refill is cellulose based, a resin like PVOH is preferred, since such resins are already used and recycled in the paper industry. Similarly, if the refill is made from recycled polyethylene, the connection means 7 is preferably also made from recycled polyethylene.
