Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a battery container and an energy storage system including the battery container, more particularly to a battery container with improved energy density and an energy storage system including the battery container. This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2022-0055923 filed on May 6, 2022, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety. [Background technology]

[0002] Currently commercially available secondary batteries include nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, nickel-zinc batteries, and lithium secondary batteries. Among these, lithium secondary batteries have been attracting attention due to their advantages over nickel-based secondary batteries, such as almost no memory effect, freedom in charging and discharging, a very low self-discharge rate, and a high energy density.

[0003] Such lithium secondary batteries mainly use lithium-based oxides and carbon materials as positive and negative active materials, respectively, and include an electrode assembly in which a positive electrode plate coated with the positive electrode active material and a negative electrode plate coated with the negative electrode active material are disposed with a separator interposed therebetween, and an exterior material, such as a battery case, that hermetically houses the electrode assembly together with an electrolyte.

[0004] In general, lithium secondary batteries can be classified into can-type secondary batteries in which an electrode assembly is housed in a metal can and pouch-type secondary batteries in which an electrode assembly is housed in a pouch made of an aluminum laminate sheet, depending on the shape of the exterior material.

[0005] Although a secondary battery may be used alone, it is often the case that a plurality of secondary batteries are electrically connected to each other in series and / or parallel. In particular, a plurality of secondary batteries may be electrically connected to each other and housed inside a module case to form a battery module. The battery module may be used alone or two or more may be electrically connected to each other in series and / or parallel to form a higher-level device such as a battery rack or a battery pack.

[0006] In recent years, as issues such as power shortages and environmentally friendly energy have come to the fore, energy storage systems (ESS) for storing generated power have been drawing more attention. For example, a smart grid system has been proposed as one of the methods for adjusting power supply and demand. The amount of power used by consumers is not constant but fluctuates from time to time. A typical example is a sudden increase in power usage due to the use of air conditioners in the afternoon during summer, followed by a sudden decrease in power usage at night. In this way, the amount of power consumed by the power consumer is not constant but fluctuates frequently, and even if the power supplier adjusts the amount of power produced to some extent, it is practically difficult to match the amount of power consumed. This imbalance between power supply and consumption can cause an oversupply or shortage of power, but the smart grid system can flexibly store and adjust power to solve this problem. The smart grid system can be said to be a concept of storing power at times or in areas where surplus power is generated, and supplying the stored power to times or in areas where power shortage occurs. One of the key components for constructing such a smart grid system is an energy storage system for storing electricity. In addition, as electric vehicles have been fully commercialized recently, power storage devices are being used in facilities for charging electric vehicles, such as charging stations.

[0007] Typically, such energy storage systems are configured to include multiple battery containers to ensure a large charging and discharging capacity, with each battery container including multiple battery racks, and each battery rack including multiple battery modules.

[0008] Such battery containers are required to have various performances. In particular, in the case of an energy storage system (ESS), a plurality of battery containers may be provided in a form in which they are connected to each other. However, in the case of a conventional energy storage system, there is a problem that it is difficult to configure a larger number of battery containers when there is no connection and load support structure for stacking a plurality of battery containers and the ground for placing the battery containers is limited. [0032] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. Prior to this, the terms and words used in the present specification and claims are not to be construed as being limited to their ordinary and dictionary meanings, but are to be construed as having meanings and concepts corresponding to the technical ideas of the present invention, in accordance with the principle that the inventors themselves can appropriately define the concepts of terms in order to best describe the invention.

[0033] Therefore, it should be understood that the embodiment described in this specification and the configurations shown in the drawings are merely the most preferred embodiment of the present invention and do not represent the entire technical idea of the present invention, and therefore there may be various equivalents and modifications that can be substituted therefor at the time of this application.

[0034] Fig. 1 is a diagram showing an energy storage system 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention, Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing an overall shape of a battery container 10 provided in the energy storage system 1 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a diagram showing the battery container 10 of Fig. 2 as viewed from the front, Fig. 4 is a diagram showing the battery container 10 of Fig. 2 as viewed from the side, Fig. 5 is a diagram showing the battery container 10 of Fig. 2 as viewed from above, and Fig. 6 is a diagram showing the battery container 10 of Fig. 2 as viewed from below. At this time, Figs. 3 to 6 exemplarily show only a second battery container B2, which will be described later.

[0035] In an embodiment of the present invention, the illustrated X-axis direction may refer to the width direction, the Y-axis direction may refer to the longitudinal direction perpendicular to the X-axis direction on a horizontal plane (XY plane), and the Z-axis direction may refer to the up-down direction perpendicular to both the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction.

[0036] 1 to 6, an energy storage system 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a battery container 10.

[0037] The energy storage system 1 may be configured to configure a link group by combining a certain number of battery containers 10 and a control container (E-Link) EL, which will be described in detail later through related descriptions.

[0038] The above-mentioned battery container 10 may include a container body 100, a coupling portion 200, and a load-supporting portion 300.

[0039] The container body 100 may include a plurality of battery racks therein. To this end, an accommodation space for accommodating the battery racks may be provided in the container body 100. For example, the container body 100 may be made of a metal material such as steel.

[0040] The battery rack may be configured with a plurality of battery modules stacked together. Here, each battery module may be configured with a plurality of battery cells (secondary batteries) housed in a module case. Each battery module may be housed in a rack case and stacked in at least one direction. For example, each battery module may be stacked vertically through the rack case.

[0041] Alternatively, the container body 100 may not include the above-mentioned battery rack, and may accommodate a plurality of battery modules therein by configuring a separate structure therein for fixing the plurality of battery modules.

[0042] The coupling portion 200 may be configured to couple different container bodies 100 together.

[0043] In an embodiment, different container bodies 100 may be arranged to be stacked vertically. At least two of the container bodies 100 may be arranged to be stacked vertically. In this case, the container bodies 100 may be stacked vertically on the same surface.

[0044] The container body 100 may exemplarily include a first container body B1 and a second container body B2. In this case, the second container body B2 may be located at a lower level than the first container body B1. In particular, the second container body B2 may be located on the ground.

[0045] The load support part 300 may be configured to support a load in the vertical direction of the container body 100. As an example, the load support part 300 may be provided in the form of a bracket, but is not limited thereto. In addition, the load support part 300 may be provided integrally with the container body 100 or may be formed as a separate member.

[0046] The load supporting part 300 may be provided in a part of the container body 100 different from a part where a coupling part 200 for coupling different container bodies 100 is located, thereby enhancing the structural rigidity of the container body 100 except for the part where the coupling part 200 is located.

[0047] According to this embodiment of the present invention, when different container bodies 100 are coupled in the vertical direction, the load of the container bodies 100 in the vertical direction can be stably supported.

[0048] In addition, since the container bodies 100 can be stably stacked on the same ground surface, the energy density of the battery containers 10 can be improved for a limited area of ground.

[0049] The joining portion 200 and the load supporting portion 300 will be described in more detail below.

[0050] Fig. 7 is an enlarged view of part A in Fig. 2, and Fig. 8 is an enlarged view of part B in Fig. 2. Here, Fig. 7 is a detailed view of the first coupling part 220 provided at the lower end of the first container body B1, and Fig. 8 is a detailed view of the second coupling part 240 provided at the upper end of the second container body B2.

[0051] 1 to 8, the coupling part 200 may be provided at least one of the upper end and the lower end of the container body 100. As shown in FIG.

[0052] The coupling part 200 may be provided at only one of the upper and lower ends of the container body 100. Exemplarily, the coupling part 200 may be provided at only the lower end of the first container body B1 and at only the upper end of the second container body B2.

[0053] Alternatively, the coupling part 200 may be provided at both the upper end and the lower end of the container body 100. Exemplarily, the coupling part 200 may be provided at both the upper end and the lower end of the first container body B1, and at both the upper end and the lower end of the second container body B2. In this case, the coupling part 200 provided at the lower end of the second container body B2 may be located on the ground.

[0054] The coupling part 200 may include a first coupling part 220 provided at a lower end of the container body 100, and a second coupling part 240 provided at an upper end of the container body 100. In this case, the first coupling part 220 and the second coupling part 240 may be provided in both the first container body B1 and the second container body B2. Meanwhile, the first coupling part 220 may also be provided at the lower end of the second container body B2 located on the ground.

[0055] Also, the coupling part 200 may be provided at a corner of the container body 100. More specifically, the first coupling part 220 may be provided at a lower corner of the first container body B1, and the second coupling part 240 may be provided at an upper corner of the second container body B2. At this time, the first coupling part 220 and the second coupling part 240 may be coupled to each other in the up-down direction.

[0056] In this manner, the coupling parts 200 are provided at the corners of the container body 100 where stress is most concentrated, and can stably couple different container bodies 100 together.

[0057] In addition, the coupling part 200 may be formed to extend further in the vertical direction than the upper end or the lower end of the container body 100. More specifically, the first coupling part 220 may be formed to extend further downward than the lower end of the first container body B1, and the second coupling part 240 may be formed to extend further upward than the upper end of the second container body B2.

[0058] As described above, the coupling part 200 is formed to extend further in the up-down direction than the upper end or the lower end of the container body 100, so that when different container bodies 100 are coupled to each other, regions of the different container bodies 100, excluding corners of the container bodies 100, can be prevented from contacting each other. As a result, direct transfer of load to the battery modules arranged in the accommodation space of the container body 100 can be minimized.

[0059] 1 to 6, the load supporting portion 300 may be provided at least one of an upper end and a lower end of the container body 100. As shown in FIG.

[0060] The load support portion 300 may be provided at only one of the upper and lower ends of the container body 100. Exemplarily, the load support portion 300 may be provided at only the lower end of the first container body B1 and at only the upper end of the second container body B2.

[0061] Alternatively, the load support part 300 may be provided at both the upper end and the lower end of the container body 100. Exemplarily, the load support part 300 may be provided at both the upper end and the lower end of the first container body B1, and at both the upper end and the lower end of the second container body B2. In this case, the load support part 300 coupled to the lower end of the second container body B2 may be located on the ground.

[0062] The load supporting part 300 may be configured to support the loads of two different container bodies 100 in the vertical direction.

[0063] More specifically, the load supporting part 300 can additionally support the vertical load of the first container body B1 and the second container body B2 when the first container body B1 and the second container body B2 are connected to each other by the first connecting part 220 and the second connecting part 240.

[0064] According to this embodiment of the present invention, when two different container bodies 100 are coupled in the vertical direction, the load of the container bodies 100 in the vertical direction can be stably supported.

[0065] In addition, the load supporting portion 300 may be located between two different coupling portions 200 on at least one of the upper surface and the lower surface of the container body 100 .

[0066] More specifically, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different first coupling portions 220 on the lower surface of the container body 100. In this case, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different first coupling portions 220 in the longitudinal direction of the container body 100. In addition, although not shown, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different first coupling portions 220 in the width direction of the container body 100, or may be located between two different first coupling portions 220 located in a diagonal direction.

[0067] Furthermore, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different second coupling portions 240 on the upper surface of the container body 100. In this case, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different second coupling portions 240 in the longitudinal direction of the container body 100. Furthermore, although not shown, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different second coupling portions 240 in the width direction of the container body 100, or may be located between two different second coupling portions 240 located in a diagonal direction.

[0068] 1 to 6, since the container body 100 is formed such that the length in the longitudinal direction is longer than the length in the width direction, a higher load supporting effect can be achieved when the load supporting portion 300 is positioned between two different connecting portions 200 in the longitudinal direction of the container body 100. In addition, the load supporting portion 300 is positioned between two different connecting portions 200 in all of the longitudinal direction, width direction and diagonal direction of the container body 100, so that the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 can be supported more stably.

[0069] According to such an embodiment of the present invention, the load support portion 300 is located between the connecting portions 200 that connect different container bodies 100 on at least one of the upper and lower surfaces of the container body 100, so that the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 can be supported more stably.

[0070] In particular, a plurality of the load supporting portions 300 may be formed between two different connecting portions 200. For example, a plurality of the load supporting portions 300 may be formed between two different connecting portions 200 in the longitudinal direction of the container body 100. In addition, although not shown, a plurality of the load supporting portions 300 may be formed between two different connecting portions 200 in the width direction of the container body 100, or between two different connecting portions 200 positioned diagonally.

[0071] 1 to 6, since the container body 100 is formed such that the length in the longitudinal direction is longer than the length in the width direction, a higher load supporting effect can be achieved when the plurality of load supporting parts 300 are positioned between two different connecting parts 200 in the longitudinal direction of the container body 100. Furthermore, the plurality of load supporting parts 300 are positioned between two different connecting parts 200 in all of the longitudinal direction, width direction and diagonal direction of the container body 100, so that the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 can be supported more stably.

[0072] According to this embodiment of the present invention, a plurality of load support parts 300 are formed between the coupling parts 200 that couple different container bodies 100 together, so that the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 is distributed to the plurality of load support parts 300. As a result, the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 can be supported more stably.

[0073] Also, the load supporting portion 300 may be located between two different coupling portions 200 on the edge of the container body 100 .

[0074] More specifically, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different coupling portions 200 at an edge in the longitudinal direction of the container body 100. In addition, although not shown, the load support portion 300 may be located between two different coupling portions 200 at an edge in the width direction of the container body 100.

[0075] According to such an embodiment of the present invention, the load support portion 300 is located between two different connecting portions 200 at the edge of the container body 100, which is a portion that is vulnerable to vertical loads, so that the vertical load of the container body 100 can be supported more stably.

[0076] In addition, the load supporting parts 300 may be positioned symmetrically on both sides of the edge of the container body 100 with respect to the center line of the edge of the container body 100 .

[0077] More specifically, the load supporting parts 300 may be positioned symmetrically on both sides in the longitudinal direction with respect to a center line in the width direction at the longitudinal edges of the container body 100. Although not shown, the load supporting parts 300 may be positioned symmetrically on both sides in the width direction with respect to a center line in the longitudinal direction at the edges of the container body 100 in the width direction.

[0078] According to such an embodiment of the present invention, the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 can be uniformly distributed to the load supporting portion 300. This makes it possible to support the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 more stably.

[0079] 9 is an enlarged view of portion C in FIG. 2, FIG. 10 is a detailed view of the first support bracket 320 in FIG. 9, FIG. 11 is an enlarged view of portion D in FIG. 2, and FIG. 12 is a detailed view of the second support bracket 340 in FIG. 11.

[0080] 1 to 6 and 9 to 12, the load support part 300 may include a first support bracket 320 and a second support bracket 340. As shown in FIG.

[0081] The first support bracket 320 may be provided at a lower end of the container body 100. As an example, the first support bracket 320 may be provided at a lower end of the first container body B1.

[0082] The second support bracket 340 may be provided at an upper end of the container body 100. As an example, the second support bracket 340 may be provided at an upper end of the second container body B2. The second support bracket 340 may be configured to be connectable to the first support bracket 320 in the up-down direction.

[0083] The first support bracket 320 and the second support bracket 340 may be configured to support a load in the vertical direction of the first container body B1 and the second container body B2.

[0084] In this case, the first support bracket 320 and the second support bracket 340 may be provided on both the first container body B1 and the second container body B2. Meanwhile, the first support bracket 320 may also be provided on the lower end of the second container body B2 located on the ground.

[0085] Figure 13 is an enlarged view of portion L in Figure 1, Figure 14 is a detailed view of the connecting member 400 in Figure 13, and Figure 15 is a view for explaining the state in which the load support portion 300 supports the loads of two different container bodies 100.

[0086] 13 to 15, the battery container 10 may further include a connecting member 400 configured to connect two different coupling parts 200 in the vertical direction. As an example, the connecting member 400 may be a type of twist lock and may be made of a high-strength metal material.

[0087] The connecting member 400 may include a connecting body 420 and a side portion 440 .

[0088] The connecting body 420 may be disposed vertically inside two different coupling parts 200. That is, the connecting body 420 may be disposed vertically inside a first coupling part 220 provided in the first container body B1 and a second coupling part 240 provided in the second container body B2.

[0089] The side parts 440 may be formed on both sides of the connection body 420 and disposed between two different coupling parts 200 in the up-down direction. That is, the side parts 440 may be disposed between the first coupling part 220 and the second coupling part 240 in the up-down direction.

[0090] A more detailed configuration of the above-mentioned connecting member 400 will be described later in more detail through related descriptions.

[0091] The connecting member 400 can prevent two different connecting parts 200 connected to the corners of the container body 100, which are the parts where stress is most concentrated in the container body 100, from directly contacting each other due to the configuration of the side parts 440. This makes it possible to stably connect different container bodies 100 to each other.

[0092] Meanwhile, in a state where the side portion 440 is disposed between the two different coupling portions 200, downward deflection may occur in a region of the first container body B1 excluding the region between the two different coupling portions 200. In this case, the first support bracket 320 and the second support bracket 340 of the present invention are coupled to each other in the vertical direction, and thus may be configured to support the vertical load of the first container body B1 and the second container body B2.

[0093] According to this embodiment of the present invention, when two different container bodies 100 are coupled in the vertical direction, deformation of the container body 100 can be minimized and the load of the container body 100 in the vertical direction can be stably supported.

[0094] 9 to 15, the first support bracket 320 may include a first side bracket 322, a first connecting bracket 324, and a first base bracket 326.

[0095] The first side bracket 322 may be coupled to a side surface of the lower end of the container body 100. As described above, the first support bracket 320 may be more stably coupled to the container body 100 by having the configuration of the first side bracket 322 coupled to the side surface of the container body 100. Thus, the first support bracket 320 may more stably support the load of the container body 100 in the vertical direction.

[0096] The first connecting bracket 324 may be coupled to a lower portion of the first side bracket 322 and configured to be vertically connectable to the second support bracket 340. As such, the first support bracket 320 includes the first connecting bracket 324 coupled to the lower portion of the first side bracket 322, so that the first support bracket 320 can be more stably connected to the second support bracket 340 in the vertical direction.

[0097] The first base bracket 326 may be connected to the first connecting bracket 324 and configured to support the lower surface of the container body 100. As such, the first support bracket 320 includes the first base bracket 326 configured to support the lower surface of the container body 100, and thus can more stably support the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100.

[0098] In addition, the second support bracket 340 may include a second side bracket 342 , a second connecting bracket 344 , and a second base bracket 346 .

[0099] The second side bracket 342 may be coupled to a side surface of the upper end of the container body 100. As described above, the second support bracket 340 may be more stably coupled to the container body 100 by having the configuration of the second side bracket 342 coupled to the side surface of the container body 100. Thus, the second support bracket 340 may more stably support the load of the container body 100 in the vertical direction.

[0100] The second connecting bracket 344 may be connected to an upper portion of the second side bracket 342 and configured to be connectable to the first connecting bracket 324 in a vertical direction. As an example, the first connecting bracket 324 and the second connecting bracket 344 may be connected by connecting a first hole H1 formed in the first connecting bracket 324 and a second hole H2 formed in the second connecting bracket 344 using a separate connecting member (not shown).

[0101] In this manner, the second support bracket 340 can be more stably coupled to the first support bracket 320 in the vertical direction by including the second coupling bracket 344 coupled to the upper part of the second side bracket 342. In addition, the first support bracket 320 and the second support bracket 340 have the first coupling bracket 324 and the second coupling bracket 344 configured to be easily coupled to each other in the vertical direction, so that different container bodies 100 can be easily coupled to each other.

[0102] The second base bracket 346 may be connected to the second connecting bracket 344 and configured to support the upper surface of the container body 100. As such, the second support bracket 340 includes the second base bracket 346 configured to support the upper surface of the container body 100, and thus can more stably support the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100.

[0103] Meanwhile, when the side portion 440 is disposed between two different coupling portions 200, the distance between the lower end of the first container body B1 and the upper end of the second container body B2 may be equal to the sum of the height of the first base bracket 326 and the height of the second base bracket 346. As a result, deformation of the container body 100 can be minimized and the load in the vertical direction of the container body 100 can be stably supported.

[0104] 16 is an enlarged view of portion E in FIG. 2, FIG. 17 is a detailed view of support plate 500 in FIG. 16, FIG. 18 is a detailed view of fixing member 600 in FIG. 16, and FIG. 19 is a view for explaining the relationship between support plate 500 in FIG. 16 and load support portion 300.

[0105] 9 to 12 and 16 to 19, the load support portion 300 may be configured to support the container body 100 placed on the ground.

[0106] More specifically, the second container body B2 may be located on the ground. In this case, the first coupling part 220 of the coupling part 200 may be provided at the lower end of the second container body B2 located on the ground. Also, the first support bracket 320 of the load support part 300 may be provided at the lower end of the second container body B2 located on the ground.

[0107] In particular, the lower ends of the first connecting bracket 324 and the first base bracket 326 of the first support bracket 320 may be located on the same horizontal plane as the lower end of the first coupling part 220. The first support bracket 320 may be fixed to the ground by inserting a separate coupling member (not shown) into the ground through the first hole H1 of the first connecting bracket 324. Thus, the second container body B2 located on the ground may be fixed to the ground.

[0108] According to this embodiment of the present invention, the load support portion 300 stably supports the container body 100 placed on the ground, thereby enabling the container bodies 100 to be stably stacked.

[0109] Meanwhile, the battery container 10 may further include a support plate 500. The support plate 500 may be configured to support the container body 100 placed on the ground.

[0110] At this time, the support plate 500 may support the lower end of the container body 100 placed on the ground. More specifically, the support plate 500 may support the lower end of the second container body B2 located on the ground.

[0111] In particular, the support plate 500 may be directly connected to the first coupling part 220 or disposed adjacent to the first coupling part 220. Due to such a configuration of the support plate 500, it is possible to additionally secure a supporting force in the vertical direction near the corners of the container body 100.

[0112] In addition, a lower end of the support plate 500 may be located on the same horizontal plane as a lower end of the first coupling part 220 , and may be located on the same horizontal plane as lower ends of the first coupling bracket 324 and the first base bracket 326 of the first support bracket 320 .

[0113] According to such an embodiment of the present invention, in addition to the load support portion 300, the container body 100 placed on the ground is configured to be additionally supported through the support plate 500, thereby guiding more stable stacking of the container bodies 100.

[0114] 16 to 19, the battery container 10 may further include a fixing member 600.

[0115] The fixing member 600 may be configured to connect the support plate 500 and the coupling part 200. Since the support plate 500 and the coupling part 200 are configured in such a manner that they are connected by the fixing member 600, the supporting force in the vertical direction near the corners of the container body 100 becomes more stable.

[0116] Also, the fixing member 600 may be configured to fix the container body 100 to the ground. More specifically, the fixing member 600 may fix the second container body B2 located on the ground to the ground. As an example, a separate coupling member (not shown) may be inserted into the ground through a fixing hole 620 formed in the fixing member 600. In this way, the fixing member 600 may fix the second container body B2 located on the ground to the ground.

[0117] At this time, a lower end of the fixing member 600 may be located on the same horizontal plane as a lower end of the first coupling part 220 and a lower end of the support plate 500. In addition, a lower end of the fixing member 600 may be located on the same horizontal plane as lower ends of the first coupling bracket 324 and the first base bracket 326 of the first support bracket 320.

[0118] According to this embodiment of the present invention, not only can the container bodies 100 be guided to be stacked more stably through the fixing members 600, but also an additional fixing force of the container bodies 100 to the ground can be secured.
