Abstract
Description
[Technical Field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a packaging machine. [Background technology]
[0002] Various types of packaging machines are known for packaging products. One type of packaging machine packages a product in a continuous film, for example, to produce pillow packages, among others, by sealing the longitudinal edges of the film with a longitudinal sealing assembly to create a film tube, which, with the product therein, is then subjected to a seal cutting assembly that transversely cuts the film tube into two pieces and transversely seals each side of the cut. Sealing one side of the cut transversely closes one end of the film tube, and sealing the other closes a second end of the package, which is physically separated from the film tube by the transverse cut. The first end of the package was closed in a previous operation of the seal cutting assembly and corresponds to the end of the film tube that was sealed in that previous operation.
[0003] In some examples, the seal cutting assembly includes two rotating assemblies between which the film tube moves, each of the rotating assemblies including an axis of rotation and an actuating tool that rotates about a corresponding axis of rotation, the actuating tools configured to cooperate with one another in a rotated position to perform the seal cutting operation described above on the film tube, whereby the axes of rotation are parallel and spaced apart by a predetermined vertical distance that varies depending on the film properties that the rotating assemblies must act upon when cooperating with one another.
[0004] Therefore, it is common to have to adjust the position of at least one of the two rotating assemblies, in particular the position of its rotation axis relative to the rotation axis of the other rotating assembly, so that both rotation axes are parallel and maintain a predetermined corresponding distance from each other.
[0005] Such packaging machines include an actuator for rotating the first rotating assembly and a transmission system for transmitting the rotation to the second rotating assembly. The transmission system typically includes a gear that rotates with the first rotating assembly about a corresponding axis of rotation and a second gear that rotates with the second rotating assembly about a corresponding axis of rotation. The second gear rotates with the first gear and thus meshes with the first gear to transmit the rotation of the first rotating assembly to the second rotating assembly.
[0006] U.S. Pat. No. 3,641,857(A) discloses a packaging machine having such a seal cutting assembly, comprising a first rotating assembly having a first rotating shaft and a first actuating tool, a second rotating assembly having a second rotating shaft and a second actuating tool, an actuator for rotating the first rotating assembly about its rotating shaft, and a transmission system for transmitting such rotation to the second rotating assembly.
[0007] CN104443561A discloses a seal cutting assembly according to the preamble of claim 1. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0008] The object of the present invention is to provide a packaging machine as defined in the claims. [Means for solving the problem]
[0009] The packaging machine includes a seal cutting assembly including a first rotating assembly having a first rotating shaft and a first actuating tool, a second rotating assembly having a second rotating shaft and a second actuating tool, an actuator coupled to the first rotating assembly and configured to rotate the first actuating tool about the first rotating shaft, and a transmission system for transmitting such rotation to the second actuating tool, thereby rotating the second actuating tool about the second rotating shaft.
[0010] The transmission system includes a first transmission assembly having a drive gear attached to the first rotating assembly, and a second transmission assembly coupled to the second rotating assembly and configured to cooperate with the drive gear.
[0011] The second transmission assembly includes a first gear and a second gear adjacent to the first gear, the first gear being mounted on the second rotating assembly so that the second working tool rotates with the first gear. Both gears of the second transmission assembly are concentric and engaged with the drive gear, and the relative angular position between the gears of the second transmission assembly is adjustable. The gears of the transmission system preferably have equal tooth pitch and tooth pitch so that the gears of the two transmission assemblies are complementary.
[0012] In practice, depending on, for example, the film's characteristics (thickness, material, etc.), it is common to have to adjust the position between at least the first and second rotational axes, which may require shifting at least one of the rotational axes relative to the other by shortening or lengthening the distance between them. Changing the distance between the rotational axes also changes the lateral play between the drive gear teeth and the gear teeth of the second transmission assembly, because the gear teeth of the second transmission assembly change the level of engagement between two adjacent teeth of the drive gear of the first transmission assembly. Such lateral play affects the accuracy of the actuating tools during sealing and cutting of the film (the greater the lateral play, the less accurate), because the pressure generated between the actuating tools to seal the film can cause free or uncontrolled movement between the cooperating gear teeth, resulting in damage to the actuating tools and / or improper sealing.
[0013] Previously, to at least partially avoid these challenges, when the position of one actuation tool was adjusted relative to the other (and thus the position of one rotational axis relative to the other's), the gear was manually pushed so that its teeth contacted the teeth of the other gear, and the relative position between these two gears was constrained by fixing the gear coupled to the actuation tool with which it was aligned (allowing it to rotate but not move), thereby preventing simple and rapid subsequent modification of the seal cutting assembly configuration to operate with different blades.
[0014] The proposed seal cutting assembly of the packaging machine facilitates this task by having two gears in the second transmission assembly instead of a single gear, and by being able to adjust the relative angular position between those two gears, again allowing the seal cutting assembly to be readjusted as many times as necessary to use different films of different materials, thicknesses, etc., and allowing changes in position between the two rotational axes to be performed in a simple and effortless manner without any lateral play that may occur which would adversely affect the precision as described above.
[0015] The seal cutting assembly includes at least one actuator configured to act on at least one of the gears of the second transmission assembly to cause relative rotation between the gears about the second axis of rotation, thereby adjusting the angular position between the two gears.
[0016] By inducing relative rotation, a tooth of one gear of the second transmission assembly engaged between two teeth of the drive gear of the first transmission assembly contacts one of the teeth of the drive gear of the first transmission assembly, and a tooth of the other gear of the second transmission assembly engaged between the two teeth of the drive gear of the first transmission assembly contacts the other of the teeth of the drive gear, thereby preventing free movement between the drive gear and the gears of the second transmission assembly (one gear prevents free movement in one direction, and the other gear prevents free movement in the other direction). By maintaining the gears of the second transmission assembly in that position, the rotation of the first rotating assembly is fully transmitted to the second rotating assembly, avoiding the aforementioned problem.
[0017] If it becomes necessary to readjust the position of the second transmission assembly, it is sufficient to first release the angular position adjustment between the gears of the second transmission assembly, which can be done, for example, by stopping the operation of the actuator, then adjusting the position as required, and then operating the actuator again to bring the two gears of the second transmission assembly into contact with the teeth of the drive gear of the first transmission assembly as described above.
[0018] The actuator simply needs to be actuated to lock or unlock the angular positioning between the gears of the second transmission assembly, which can be done simply, quickly and safely.
[0019] These and other advantages and features of the present invention will become apparent upon consideration of the drawings and detailed description of the invention. [Brief explanation of the drawings]

[Figure 8] FIG. 6 is a view taken along the cross section AA of FIG. 5. [Figure 9] FIG. 2 shows an actuation drive of the packaging machine of FIG. 1. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0021] The proposed packaging machine 1000 includes a seal cutting assembly 100, as shown in Figure 1 by way of example. Referring to Figure 2, the seal cutting assembly 100 includes a first rotating assembly 1 having a first rotation axis 1.0 and at least one first actuating tool 1.1, a second rotating assembly 2 having a second rotation axis 2.0 and at least one second actuating tool 2.1, an actuator 3 coupled to the first rotating assembly 1 to rotate the first rotating assembly 1 about the rotation axis 1.0, and a transmission system 4 for transmitting such rotation to the second rotating assembly 2, thereby rotating the second actuating tool 2.1 about the second rotation axis 2.0. In this manner, the two rotating assemblies 1 and 2 rotate simultaneously. The rotation axes 1.0 and 2.0 are preferably spaced apart in a vertical direction.
[0022] The actuation tools 1.1 and 2.1 are configured to cooperate at a given position (or at a position within an angular range β) shown in Figure 3 during rotation of the rotating assemblies 1 and 2. The actuation tools 1.1 and 2.1 project from the rotation axes 1.0 and 2.0, respectively, in corresponding radial directions of said rotation axes 1.0 and 2.0, and the rotating assemblies 1 and 2 are configured to cooperate with each other when the two actuation tools 1.1 and 2.1 are aligned and opposed radially. Preferably, cooperation occurs within a given angular range β, the center of which is at said position of aligned and opposed radially as shown in Figure 3.
[0023] As described, in a packaging machine 1000 having two rotating assemblies 1 and 2, a film tube 300 with a product packed inside is passed between the two rotating assemblies 1 and 2 (the product is not shown in the figure), and when the actuating tools 1.1 and 2.1 of the rotating assemblies 1 and 2 cooperate with each other, they cut the film tube 300 transversely and transversely seal the film tube 300 on both sides of the transverse cut, so that downstream of the transverse cut a closed container is separated, and upstream of the cut the film tube 300 has one end closed.
[0024] As shown in Figures 4 and 5, the transmission system 4 comprises a first transmission assembly 4.1 having a drive gear 4.11 coupled to the first rotating assembly 1, and a second transmission assembly 4.2 coupled to the second rotating assembly 2 and configured to cooperate with the drive gear 4.11.
[0025] The second transmission assembly 4.2 comprises a first gear 4.21 mounted on the second rotating assembly 2 so that the second actuation tool 2.1 and the first gear 4.21 rotate together about the second rotation axis 2.0, and a second gear 4.22 adjacent to and concentric with the first gear 4.21. Both gears 4.21 and 4.22 mesh with the drive gear 4.11, and the relative angular positions between said gears 4.21 and 4.22 are adjustable. The meshing of one gear with another means that the teeth of one gear are inserted into the pitch between the teeth of the other gear, and thus the teeth of both gears cooperate so that rotation of one gear rotates the other gear.
[0026] The seal cutting assembly 100 includes at least one adjustment actuator 5 configured to act on at least one of the two gears 4.21 and 4.22 of the second transmission assembly 4.2, said actuation causing relative rotation between the two gears 4.21 and 4.22 with respect to the second axis of rotation 2.0, thereby adjusting the angular position between the two gears 4.21 and 4.22. However, in other embodiments, the adjustment actuator 5 can rotate the two gears 4.21 and 4.22 in opposite directions with respect to the second axis of rotation 2.0.
[0027] Therefore, when the teeth of each of the gears 4.21 and 4.22 of the second transmission assembly 4.2 mesh between two teeth of the first drive gear 4.11 (the pitch of the first drive gear 4.11), the teeth of the gears 4.21 and 4.22 are forced into contact with the respective teeth of the first drive gear 4.11 by the operation of the adjustment actuator 5 (see Figure 6). Therefore, when the teeth of the first gear 4.21 are in contact with the teeth of the drive gear 4.11, the first gear 4.21 prevents free movement in one direction between both transmission assemblies 4.1 and 4.2, and when the teeth of the second gear 4.22 are in contact with the other teeth of the drive gear 4.11, the second gear 4.22 prevents free movement in the opposite direction between both transmission assemblies 4.1 and 4.2. While the actuator 5 is in operation, it holds the gears 4.21 and 4.22 in their position relative to the drive gear 4.11, and when the adjustment actuator 5 is deactivated, the gears 4.21 and 4.22 are released so that their relative angular position can be adjusted and a new adjustment can be easily made.
[0028] The adjustment actuator 5 preferably comprises a cylinder having a housing 5.0 attached to one of the gears 4.21 and 4.22 of the second transmission assembly 4.2 (preferably the first gear 4.21), and a piston rod 5.1 displaceable relative to the housing 5.0 and attached to the other gear 4.21 or 4.22 of the second transmission assembly 4.2 (see FIG. 7). To this end, at least one of the gears 4.21 or 4.22 preferably has a through-hole through which the adjustment actuator 5 is coupled to the gear 4.21 or 4.22. When the adjustment actuator 5 is activated, the piston rod 5.1 extends relative to the housing 5.0; when it is deactivated, the piston rod 5.1 retracts, or can be easily retracted without being forced to the extended position. Therefore, when the adjustment actuator 5 is activated, the dimensions of the through-hole allow relative movement between both gears 4.21 and 4.22. Preferably, the adjustment actuator 5 is actuated by a fluid such as compressed air, in which case it is a pneumatic actuator (pneumatic cylinder).
[0029] Preferably, the seal cutting assembly 100 comprises a plurality of adjustment actuators 5 (see Figures 4 and 5) so that the force required for the teeth of the gears 4.21 and 4.22 of the second transmission assembly 4.2 to press against the teeth of the drive gear 4.11 of the first transmission assembly 4.1 is distributed among said adjustment actuators 5, thereby allowing the use of less forceful and more compact adjustment actuators 5. Preferably, in these embodiments, the adjustment actuators 5 are all connected to the same fluid source.
[0030] The packaging machine 1000 comprises a control unit 6 configured to control the supply of fluid to the adjustment actuator 5. In this way, the control unit 6 can allow fluid to reach the adjustment actuator 5 when needed, for example when the packaging machine 1000 has been adjusted and is about to be put into operation, thereby causing said adjustment actuator 5 to be activated, or can stop fluid from reaching the adjustment actuator 5 in order to stop said adjustment actuator 5 from being activated, for example when a readjustment of the seal and cut assembly 100 is required to change the packaging film to another film of a different material, thickness, etc.
[0031] The seal cutting assembly 100 preferably includes a controllable solenoid valve (not shown) between the fluid source of the seal cutting assembly 100 and the adjustment actuators 5, and the control unit 6 is in communication with the solenoid valve and configured to control the closing and opening of the solenoid valve to simultaneously operate all of the adjustment actuators 5. Alternatively, the seal cutting assembly 100 can include a controllable solenoid valve (not shown) between the fluid source of the seal cutting assembly 100 and each adjustment actuator 5, and the control unit 6 is in communication with the solenoid valve and configured to control the closing and opening of the solenoid valve. Preferably, the control unit 6 is configured to simultaneously operate the adjustment actuators 5.
[0032] The control unit 6 may comprise, for example, a microprocessor, a controller, an FPGA, or any other device with computing capabilities.
[0033] As shown in FIG. 8 , the second actuation tool 2.1 of the second rotating assembly 2 is in communication with the fluid source and includes a longitudinal bore 2.17 extending along the second rotation axis 2.0 from the side of the second actuation tool 2.1 closest to the first gear 4.21 and the second gear 4.22 of the second transmission assembly 4.2, and at least one radial bore 2.18 in communication with the longitudinal bore 2.17 and the corresponding adjustment actuator 5. The longitudinal bore 2.17 is rotatably coupled to a conduit supplying fluid from the fluid source, thereby enabling simple redirection of fluid from a stationary fluid source to the corresponding adjustment actuator 5 and second gear 4.22, which rotate with the first gear 4.21, during operation of the seal cutting assembly. As a result, the seal cutting assembly 100 is compact despite incorporating the adjustment actuator 5.
[0034] The second actuating tool 2.1 may comprise a sealing tool 2.11 having two sealing surfaces 2.111 and 2.112, a cutting tool 2.12, such as a blade, arranged between the sealing surfaces 2.111 and 2.112, the cutting tool 2.12 (see FIG. 3) being configured to move relative to the sealing tool 2.11 between an active position in which the cutting tool 2.12 protrudes from the sealing surfaces 2.111 and 2.112 of the sealing tool 2.11, and an inactive position in which the cutting tool 2.12 is retracted relative to the sealing surfaces 2.111 and 2.112, and an actuating drive 2.13, shown in FIG. 9, configured to act by fluid power to move the cutting tool 2.12 from at least the inactive position to the active position. In this way, it is possible to control the actuation of the actuating drive 2.13, which results in more efficient use of the cutting tool 2.12 and less wear on the cutting tool 2.12.
[0035] Preferably, the adjustment actuator 5 and the actuation drive 2.13 of the second actuation tool 2.1 are connected to the same fluid source, simplifying the seal cutting assembly 100.
[0036] Preferably, the second actuation tool 2.1 comprises at least two actuation drives 2.13, one on each side of the cutting tool 2.12 relative to the axis of rotation 2.0, with both actuation drives 2.13 acting simultaneously. By dividing the required forces in this way, the size of the actuation drives 2.13 can be reduced compared to using a single actuation drive 2.13, and simultaneous actuation from both sides ensures accurate actuation of the cutting tool 2.12.
[0037] As shown in FIG. 9, the second actuation tool 2.1 of the second rotary assembly 2 includes a longitudinal bore 2.19 extending along the second rotation axis 2.0 from the side of the second actuation tool 2.1 farthest from the first gear 4.21 and the second gear 4.22 and communicating with a fluid source and actuation drive 2.13. The longitudinal bore 2.19 can be rotatably coupled to a conduit supplying fluid from the fluid source and a second conduit disposed above the second actuation tool 2.1 that directs fluid to the corresponding actuation tool 2.13. The longitudinal bore 2.19 can be coupled to a slip ring through which current is supplied to the second actuation tool 2.1 to heat it, and the fluid source can be coupled to the slip ring. In this manner, fluid can be diverted from a stationary fluid source to the corresponding rotary actuator 2.13.
[0038] Preferably, the packaging machine 1000 comprises a control unit 6 configured to cause the actuation of the actuation drive 2.13 when the second actuation tool 2.1 is in an angular position cooperating with the first actuation tool 1.1 for sealing and cutting the film arranged between both actuation tools 1.1 and 2.1. The control unit is preferably connected to a solenoid valve (not shown) arranged in the flow path between the fluid source and the actuation actuator 2.13 and is configured to control the opening and closing of said solenoid valve in order to open or close the fluid passage therethrough.
[0039] The packaging machine 1000 may further comprise a pressure actuator 11 on each side of the actuation tool 2.1 of the second rotating assembly 2 relative to the second axis of rotation 2.0, as shown by way of example in FIG. 9. The pressure actuators 11 are configured to press the second rotating assembly 2 downwards, so that the second rotating assembly 2 applies the necessary pressure to the first rotating assembly 1 when they cooperate to effect sealing. The pressure actuators 11 are fluid-driven and are preferably connected to the same fluid source so that they can be actuated simultaneously. Preferably, the pressure actuators 11 are connected to the fluid source to which the adjustment actuators 5 are connected.
[0040] The control unit 6 can additionally be configured to simultaneously control the fluid supply of the pressure actuator 11 and the fluid supply of the actuators 5 and 11, such that the actuators 5 and 11 are deactivated when a change in the configuration of the seal cutting assembly 100 is to be made.
[0041] The packaging machine 1000 may further include a controllable solenoid valve between the fluid source and the pressure actuator 11, and the delivery of fluid to the pressure actuator 11 is controlled by controlling the solenoid valve to open and close the fluid passing through the solenoid valve.
