Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a process for purifying hydrochlorofluoroolefins. In particular, the present invention relates to a process for purifying 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene. The present invention also relates to a process for producing 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene. [Background technology]

[0002] 3,3,3-Trifluoro-1-chloropropene, or 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (HCFO-1233zd), as it is also known, exists in two isomeric forms: the cis isomer, Z-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-chloropropene (HCFO-1233zdZ), and the trans isomer, E-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-chloropropene (HCFO-1233zdE), which have different boiling points, 18.5 °C for the trans compound and 39.5 °C for the cis compound, respectively.

[0003] Fluids based on E-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-chloropropene (HCFO-1233zdE) find numerous applications in various industrial sectors, particularly as heat transfer fluids, propellants, foaming agents, blowing agents, gaseous dielectrics, monomer or polymerization media, support fluids, abrasives, desiccants, and fluids for energy production equipment.

[0004] The production of HCFO-1233zdE is accompanied by numerous by-products with boiling points close to those of HCFO-1233zdE. This results in relatively complex and costly purification steps. Difficulties encountered during the purification of HCFO-1233zdE generally include significant losses of the target product. In addition, by-products may form azeotropic compositions with HCFO-1233zdE, making separation by simple distillation very difficult or even impossible. The purification steps include, in particular, neutralization of the crude product at the reactor outlet in order to remove residual traces of acids, i.e., HCl and HF. This neutralization step is generally carried out by means of a basic solution.

[0005] Known in particular from WO 2015 / 167784 is a process for separating HCFO-1233zd and HF by a series of steps including, for example, distillation to remove HCl at the top of a distillation column, cooling of the stream at the bottom of the column to obtain a two-phase mixture, separation of the two phases and treatment of one of said phases with an adsorbent, which may be a liquid adsorbent (water, NaOH or KOH).

[0006] Also known from WO 2016 / 148957 is a process for purifying HCFO-1233zdE, comprising a washing step, a condensation and phase separation step, and finally a drying step. Also known from WO 2014 / 010530, WO 2014 / 189674 and WO 2014 / 099464 are processes for preparing HCFO-1233zd, comprising a purification step such as washing with water or washing with a basic solution.

[0007] Treatments carried out during purification of HCFO-1233zd to remove acidic impurities such as HF or HCl may contribute to the formation of certain impurities.

[0008] Therefore, new acid impurity neutralization conditions need to be implemented to minimize degradation of HCFO-1233zdE. An efficient method for purifying trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene that minimizes the formation of by-products or other impurities resulting from the dehydrochlorination reaction is needed. EXAMPLES

[0091] The examples are carried out in a reactor (both insulated) with a scrubber on top. The scrubber (inner diameter = 24 mm, height = 300 mm) is packed with Raschig rings (inner diameter = 3 mm, outer diameter = 5 mm, length = 5 mm, void ratio in the packed tower = 63%). A basic solution is introduced and flows in a circular rotation (about 185 ml / min) through the scrubber packed with Raschig rings. According to the examples, the basic solution is adjusted to a temperature of 30 ° C or 50 ° C. A composition comprising 95.8 mol% trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene, 2.4 mol% cis-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (i.e. a trans / cis molar ratio of 39.9), approximately 120 ppm 1,1-dichloro-1,3,3-trifluoropropane and approximately 25 ppm 1-chloro-1,3,3-trifluoropropene was then introduced into the reactor at a flow rate of 5 g / h. The contents of the components of the composition are expressed in moles. The composition can be obtained by carrying out the method for producing 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene described in this application. The gas stream was collected for drying with anhydrous CaCl2 and trapping using a liquid nitrogen trap. The gas stream was analyzed by gas chromatography. The amount of 1-chloro-1,3,3-trifluoropropene was quantified after neutralization.

[0092] The basic solutions tested (contents expressed by weight) and the results are shown in Table 1 below. [Table 1]

[0093] As demonstrated by the above examples, the use of basic NaOH solution can limit the production of 1-chloro-1,3,3-trifluoropropene during the neutralization step; the content of HCFC-243fc is slightly reduced. The use of basic KOH solution results in a high content of HCFO-1233zb and a large reduction in the content of HCFC-243fc. The trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene thus obtained contains less HCFO-1233zb, which can interfere with its effectiveness in various application fields. In addition, it is easier to separate 1,1-dichloro-1,3,3-trifluoropropane from trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene than to separate 1-chloro-1,3,3-trifluoropropene from trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene. Therefore, the present method has considerable advantages in the method for producing and purifying trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene.
