DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0020] The following description of each embodiment refers to the drawings and is a specific embodiment for illustrating that the present invention can be implemented. Note that the terms of directions mentioned in the present invention, such as upper, lower, top, bottom, front, rear, left, right, inside, outside, side, periphery, center, horizontal, lateral, vertical, longitudinal, axial, radial, top layer, and bottom layer, are merely directions referring to the attached drawings. Therefore, the terms of directions are used to explain and understand the present invention, and are not intended to limit the present invention.
[0021] As shown in FIG. 1, the display device according to the embodiment of the present invention may be a display device having various under-display type imaging and display functions, and may be disposed, for example, in a smartphone (P in the figure), but is not limited thereto, and the display device may be disposed in a display device with other functions, for example, a tablet PC or a desktop screen, etc., and here, a smartphone will be used as an example.
[0022] 1 and 2, the display device has a first display region R1 and a second display region R2, and the first display region R1 is located around the second display region R2, for example, the first display region R1 surrounds the second display region R2, or the first display region R1 is located outside a part of the boundary of the second display region R2, but is not limited thereto. Specifically, the display device includes a display screen 1, a first backlight 2, a light guide 3, a second backlight 4, and a camera 5. The display screen 1 may be configured to have a first display area R1 and a second display area R2, and a first backlight 2 is provided on the side of the display screen 1 where the first display area R1 is located, such that the first backlight 2 is located within the first display area R1, the first backlight 2 has a first opening 21, and the first opening 21 is aligned with the second display area R2, a light guide 3 is provided within the first opening 21 of the first backlight 2, a second backlight 4 is provided on the side of the light guide 3 away from the display screen 1, the second backlight 4 has a second opening 41, and a camera 5 (e.g., a photocoupler, CCD) is provided within the second opening 41 of the second backlight 4.
[0023] Specifically, as shown in FIG. 1, taking a smartphone (P in the figure) as an example, the display device may further include other components such as a flexible circuit board F, a first backlight driver F1, a second backlight driver F2, and a display driver D. The flexible circuit board F may be configured to be electrically connected to the first backlight driver F1 and the first backlight 2, and to be electrically connected to the second backlight driver F2 and the second backlight 4. The first backlight driver F1 causes the first backlight 2 to generate a backlight, and the second backlight driver F2 causes the second backlight 4 to generate a backlight. The display device may further include a controller C, such as, but not limited to, a central processing unit (CPU) or an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), and the controller C is electrically connected to the first backlight driver F1 and the second backlight driver F2 to adjust the brightness of the first backlight 2 and the second backlight 4. The display device may further include a controller C, such as, but not limited to, a central processing unit (CPU) or an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), and the controller C is electrically connected to the first backlight driver F1 and the second backlight driver F2 to adjust the brightness of the first backlight 2 and the second backlight 4. measurement However, the controller C is further electrically connected to a display driver D and a camera 5 to control the display screen 1 and the camera 5, and the display driver D and the camera 5 may be controlled by other elements having signal processing functions, such as, but not limited to, a digital signal processor (DSP) or an application specific integrated circuit, so that the display screen 1, the first backlight 2, the second backlight 4 and the camera 5 can cooperate based on various usage situations, such as, for example, allowing the camera 5 to capture an image and allowing the display screen 1 to display the image.
[0024] As shown in FIG. 1, the controller C adjusts the backlight current of one of the first backlight 2 and the second backlight 4 based on the difference between the two backlight luminances measured in the first display area R1 and the second display area R2, for example, by adjusting the backlight current corresponding to the display area with the smaller area (e.g., the second display area R2), thereby obtaining a desirable adjustment effect until the two backlight luminances match.
[0025] Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 1, the controller C adjusts the grayscale voltage of one of the first and second display areas based on the difference between the two gamma curves measured in the first and second display areas R1 and R2, for example, by adjusting the grayscale voltage of the display area with a smaller area (e.g., the second display area R2), a desirable adjustment effect can be obtained until the two gamma curves match.
[0026] Hereinafter, several embodiments of the display device will be described as examples, but the display device is not limited to these.
[0027] For example, as shown in FIG. 2, the display screen 1 may be, for example, a liquid crystal panel or a derivative thereof, such as a liquid crystal touch panel. Taking a liquid crystal panel as an example, the display screen 1 includes two polarizers 11, 12, an array substrate 13, a color filter substrate 14 and a liquid crystal layer 15, where the array substrate 13 and the color filter substrate 14 are respectively provided on the two polarizers 11, 12, and the liquid crystal layer 15 is provided between the array substrate 13 and the color filter substrate 14.
[0028] 2, the liquid crystal layer 15 between the array substrate 13 and the color filter substrate 14 includes a first liquid crystal and a second liquid crystal (not shown) different from the first liquid crystal, for example, the first liquid crystal is located in the first display region R1, and the second liquid crystal is located in the second display region R2, for example, a spacer (not shown) surrounded by a transparent optical adhesive is provided between the first display region R1 and the second display region R2 to separate the first liquid crystal from the second liquid crystal, and the spacer is provided between the array substrate 13 and the color filter substrate 14 to fix the array substrate 13 and the color filter substrate 14. This allows an image to be captured in the second display region R2, and images to be displayed in both the first display region R1 and the second display region R2, while auxiliary prevention of dark areas occurring between the first display region R1 and the second display region R2 is achieved.
[0029] 2, two polarizers 11 and 12 are arranged in the first display region R1 and the second display region R2, respectively, so that the first display region R1 and the second display region R2 have the same polarization effect. Alternatively, as shown in FIG. 3, two polarizers 11 and 12 are arranged only in the first display region R1, not in the second display region R2, so that the polarization effects of the first display region R1 and the second display region R2 are different, which is advantageous for increasing the amount of emitted light.
[0030] 2, the first backlight 2 and the second backlight 4 may be optical members capable of providing backlight to the display screen 1, such as a plate-shaped backlight or an array of linear or dot-shaped backlights, and the first backlight 2 is provided on the side of the display screen 1 that is located in the first display region R1, and provides backlight to a portion of the display screen 1 located in the first display region R1 so that an image can be displayed on the display screen 1 located in the first display region R1. The first opening 21 of the first backlight 2 may be circular, or may be rectangular or other shapes, and the position of the first opening 21 may be on the central axis of the first backlight 2, or may be any position of the first backlight 2, for example, a corner, and the first opening 21 and the second display region R2 are aligned so that the second display region R2 can display an image or not display an image.
[0031] Furthermore, the light guide 3 may be a member capable of uniformly guiding light from its surface, such as an optical prism, etc. This allows the backlight (such as the light emitted from the second backlight) to be uniformly diffused throughout the second display area.
[0032] 2, the second backlight 4 is provided on the side of the light guide 3 away from the display screen 1, thereby positioning the light guide 3 between the display screen 1 and the second backlight 4 and uniformly guiding the light generated from the second backlight 4 to the display screen 1. The second opening 41 of the second backlight 4 corresponds to the cross-sectional shape of the camera 5.
[0033] In one embodiment, the second backlight 4 can overlap the first backlight 2 around the first opening 21 to help eliminate the dark area between the first display area R1 and the second display area R2. For example, the overlapping width of the second backlight 4 with the first backlight 2 can be adjusted according to the actual usage situation, for example, but not limited to, the overlapping width being less than half the difference between the outer diameter and the inner diameter of the second backlight.
[0034] Therefore, the second backlight can display or capture an image on the portion of the display screen located in the second display area by providing or not providing backlight to the second display area of the display screen, and when capturing an image, a supplementary light effect can be generated at the junction between the second backlight and the first backlight, so that no visual differences such as differences in brightness occur due to gaps between the backlights, improving the situation in which visual differences occur in the under-display type imaging display device of the prior art.
[0035] When the above-mentioned embodiment of the display device of the present invention is in operation, it can operate in a display mode and a lighting mode. When the display device operates in the display mode, both the second display area and the first display area provide display functions, and the screens are displayed in a harmonious and consistent manner, thereby achieving a screen occupancy rate of nearly 100% on a mobile phone. When the display device operates in the lighting mode, the first display area provides the display function, and the second display area provides the lighting function, thereby meeting imaging requirements with high light transmittance, and achieving compatibility between the display mode and the imaging mode of the display device.
[0036] In addition, as shown in Figures 4 and 5, the display optimization method according to the embodiment of the present invention can be applied to a display device having two adjacent display areas, for example, a display device having a first display area and a second display area. Taking the above-mentioned embodiment of the display device as an example, the display optimization method includes a brightness adjustment step S1 and a gradation adjustment step S2, for example, by sequentially performing the brightness adjustment step S1 and the gradation adjustment step S2, a desirable adjustment effect can be obtained.
[0037] 2 and 4, in the brightness adjustment step S1, two backlight luminances measured in two adjacent display areas, such as the first display area R1 and the second display area R2, may be obtained, and the backlight current of one of the two adjacent display areas may be adjusted (e.g., the driving current of the first backlight 2 or the second backlight 4 may be increased or decreased) based on the difference between the two backlight luminances, and the brightness adjustment step S1 may be repeated until the two backlight luminances match. This is advantageous in reducing the visual difference by eliminating the difference between the backlight luminances of the two adjacent display areas.
[0038] The brightness adjustment step is to adjust the backlight brightness of two adjacent display areas, for example, by acquiring the backlight brightness of different display areas from above the display screen 1 to know whether there is a difference in the backlight brightness of different display areas. For example, when adjusting the backlight current, the first backlight driver may adjust the drive current of the first backlight, and the second backlight driver may adjust the drive current of the second backlight. The method of generating the current is understandable to those skilled in the art, so the description thereof will be omitted here.
[0039] In one embodiment, as shown in Fig. 4, in the brightness adjustment step S1, two backlight luminances are measured in the first display region R1 and the second display region R2, and it is determined whether the two backlight luminances match. If it is determined that they match, the brightness adjustment step is stopped. If it is determined that they do not match, the backlight current (e.g., the driving current of the second backlight) of the second display region R2 is corrected based on the current vs. luminance relationship curve (IL curve), the backlight luminance of the second display region R2 is measured again, and the backlight luminance is further determined until the two backlight luminances match. This is advantageous in reducing the visual difference by eliminating the difference in the backlight luminance of the two adjacent display regions.
[0040] Optionally, as shown in Figures 2 and 5, in the gradation adjustment step S2, two gamma curves are obtained that are measured in two adjacent display areas, such as the first display area R1 and the second display area R2, and the gradation voltage of one of the two adjacent display areas is adjusted (for example, the gradation voltage of the first display area R1 or the second display area R2 is increased or decreased) based on the difference between the two gamma curves, and the gradation adjustment step is repeated until the two gamma curves match, for example, but not limited to, the gamma curve is 2.2 as desired. Therefore, if the gradation adjustment step is performed after the brightness adjustment step, the optimized emission luminance can be adopted as the basis for adjusting the gamma curve, which is advantageous in eliminating the visual difference between the two adjacent display areas and optimizing the overall display effect.
[0041] The gamma curve indicates the relationship between the saturation characteristics (e.g., gradation value) of the input signal of the display screen and the emission luminance. The gradation adjustment step can eliminate the difference between the gamma curves drawn with the gradations obtained from two adjacent display areas by adjusting the gradation voltage of the display screen (e.g., liquid crystal panel). The gamma curve indicates the relationship between the luminance recognized by the human eye and the gradation, and the method of generating the gamma curve is understandable to those skilled in the art, so the description thereof will be omitted here.
[0042] In one embodiment, as shown in Fig. 5, in the gray scale adjustment step S2, two gamma curves are measured in the first display area R1 and the second display area R2, and it is judged whether the two gamma curves are identical, and if it is judged that they are identical, the gray scale adjustment step is stopped, and if it is judged that they are not identical, the gray scale voltage of the second display area R2 is corrected according to the voltage-transmittance relationship curve (VT curve), and the gamma curve in the second display area is measured again, and the gamma curve is further judged until the two gamma curves are identical, which is advantageous in eliminating the visual difference between the two adjacent display areas and optimizing the overall display effect.
[0043] Optionally, in one embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2, two adjacent display areas are taken as a first display area R1 and a second display area R2, and a brightness adjustment step S1 and a gray scale adjustment step S2 are performed.
[0044] Alternatively, in one embodiment, as shown in Figures 2 and 6, two adjacent display regions are set as a first display region R1 and a second display region R2 (shown in Figure 2), and the brightness adjustment step S1 is performed. The first display region R1 and the second display region R2 are each divided into a plurality of sub-regions (shown in Figure 6), for example, the first display region R1 is divided into a plurality of sub-regions (e.g., annular sub-regions R11, R12, R1N, etc.), the second display region R2 is divided into a plurality of sub-regions (e.g., annular sub-region R21, circular sub-region R2N, etc. shown in Figure 6), for example, the number of sub-regions in the second display region is less than the number of sub-regions in the first display region, and the two adjacent display regions are set as two adjacent sub-regions (e.g., R2N and R21), and the gradation adjustment step S2 may be performed. This allows the grayscale voltage of each sub-region of the display screen to be corrected sequentially, and by more precisely fine-tuning the grayscale between the sub-regions, a continuous and natural transition is achieved between the first and second display regions, further optimizing the overall display effect.
[0045] In one embodiment, as shown in Fig. 6, in the gradation adjustment step S2, two gamma curves are measured from two adjacent sub-regions, and it is judged whether the two gamma curves are consistent. If it is judged that they are consistent, the gradation adjustment step is stopped. If it is judged that they are not consistent, the grayscale voltage of the sub-region with the smaller outer diameter (for example, R2N of R21 and R2N) is corrected according to the voltage-transmittance relationship curve, and the gamma curve of the sub-region with the smaller outer diameter is re-measured, and the gamma curve is further judged until the two gamma curves are consistent. Therefore, it is advantageous to eliminate the visual difference between the two adjacent display regions and optimize the overall display effect.
[0046] The display device and display optimization method of the present invention adjust the backlight currents of the two adjacent display areas according to the difference in backlight luminance between the two adjacent display areas until the backlight luminances of the two adjacent display areas match, and adjust the gray scale voltages in the two adjacent display areas according to the difference in gamma curves between the two adjacent display areas until the gamma curves of the two adjacent display areas match.
[0047] Therefore, the visual difference (e.g., brightness and gray scale) between two adjacent display areas is eliminated, improving the situation where visual differences exist in the display areas of the prior art. When the display device operates in a display mode, the screen can be displayed in a harmonious and consistent manner, achieving a screen occupancy rate of nearly 100% in a mobile phone, and when the display device operates in a daylight mode, the requirements for both imaging and display can be met, thereby achieving compatibility between display and imaging of the display device.
[0048] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to the relevant embodiments, the above embodiments are merely examples for implementing the present invention. It should be noted that the disclosed embodiments do not limit the scope of the present invention. On the contrary, all modifications and equivalents falling within the spirit and scope of the claims are intended to be embraced within the scope of the present invention.
