Abstract

To provide an electric connector capable of maintaining a normal operation under a vibration environment so as to be more preferably adapted to an assembly tolerance.SOLUTION: In the case where there is an assembly tolerance between a female connector 4 and a male connector 2a, even if a shaft deviation occurs between the connectors, a floating operation terminal 43 guides a center conductive member 21a by a trumpet-shaped opening of a tip end to be inserted to a fitting part. Also, an elastic fitting piece 442 of a conductive shell 44, the floating operation terminal 43, and an insulation floating operation seat 42 can be tracked and skewed to the center conductive member 21a, and the fitting part can surely maintain a fitting with the center conductive member 21a, and the conductive shell 44 can surely maintain the fitting with a second metal shell 222a of the male connector 2a. The floating operation terminal 43 can be deformed so as to track the vibration to various directions such as a longitudinal direction, a front-back direction, and a vertical direction even under a vibration environment. Since the floating operation terminal 43 even after the deformation can still maintain a secure fitting with the male connector 2a, stability of signal transmission can be secured.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 14

[0035] 6 and 7, the insulating fixing base 41 includes a main fixing base 411 and an auxiliary fixing base 412.

[0036] The insulating fixing seat 41 has a terminal receiving groove 41a, which is open to a side of the insulating fixing seat 41 and extends into the insulating fixing seat 41. The terminal receiving groove 41a is used to receive a floating terminal 43. Specifically, in this embodiment, the terminal receiving groove 41a divides the inner wall of the main fixing seat 411 into a first position limiting wall 413 and a second position limiting wall 414 facing each other.

[0037] The terminal receiving groove 41a forms a side opening on the side surface of the main fixing seat 411, and the auxiliary fixing seat 412 is snapped into the side opening to close the side opening. The first position limiting wall 413 and the second position limiting wall 414 are respectively provided with snap grooves 4112. The auxiliary fixing seat 412 is respectively provided with snap blocks 4122 that snap into the snap grooves 4112. The main fixing seat 411 and the auxiliary fixing seat 412 are connected to each other by the snap blocks 4122 and the snap grooves 4112 snapping together. The floating terminal 43 is mounted in the terminal receiving groove 41a through the side opening of the main fixing seat 411, and the auxiliary fixing seat 412 is snapped into the side opening to package the floating terminal 43 in the terminal receiving groove 41a. A protruding spacing block 4121 is provided on the auxiliary fixing seat 412, and the spacing block 4121 extends into the terminal receiving groove 41a to provide a positional limit for the floating terminal 43 in the terminal receiving groove 41a.

[0038] The terminal receiving groove 41a has a terminal fixing groove 41b extending horizontally at its bottom. Specifically, in this embodiment, the first position limiting wall 413 and the second position limiting wall 414 have a first insertion groove 4131 and a second insertion groove 4141 opening at a position close to the lower end of the first position limiting wall 413 and a position close to the lower end of the second position limiting wall 414, respectively, and the opening of the first insertion groove 4131 and the opening of the second insertion groove 4141 face each other, and the first insertion groove 4131 and the second insertion groove 4141 together form the terminal fixing groove 41b. The terminal fixing groove 41b is used to fix the floating terminal 43.

[0039] A protruding stop wall 4111 is provided on the first position limiting wall 413 of the main fixing base 411, which is used to form a position limit on the floating terminal 43 (described in detail below), and the outer surface of the insulating fixing base 41 is further provided with at least one recess 4113 used to fix the conductive shell 44.

[0040] 8, the insulating floating seat 42 is mounted on the insulating fixed seat 41 in a floating manner. Specifically, in this embodiment, a horizontal support base 410 is provided on the upper part of the insulating fixed seat 41, and the insulating floating seat 42 is slidably placed on the support base 410, thereby realizing the horizontal floating of the insulating floating seat 42. Since there is no vertical connection constraint between the insulating floating seat 42 and the insulating fixed seat 41, the insulating floating seat 42 can freely float up and down relative to the insulating fixed seat 41. However, the floating range of the insulating floating seat 42 is limited by the insulating fixed seat 41 and the conductive shell 44 covering the insulating floating seat 42 (details will be described later). In addition, in another embodiment not shown, a receiving groove may be provided on the insulating fixed seat 41, and the insulating floating seat 42 is mounted in the receiving groove, and there is a gap between the insulating floating seat 42 and the receiving groove, so that the insulating floating seat 42 can float along the horizontal direction and the vertical direction relative to the insulating fixed seat 41. Alternatively, in another embodiment, a receiving groove or through hole may be provided in the insulating floating seat 42, the insulating fixed seat 41 may be extended partially into the receiving groove or through hole of the insulating floating seat 42, and a gap may be provided between the insulating fixed seat 41 and the receiving groove or through hole of the insulating floating seat 42, so that the insulating floating seat 42 can freely float horizontally and vertically relative to the insulating fixed seat 41.

[0041] The insulating floating seat 42 has an insertion hole 421 penetrating vertically, the lower part of the floating terminal 43 is fixed in the insulating fixed seat 41, and the upper part of the floating terminal 43 extends into the insertion hole 421 of the insulating floating seat 42. The insulating floating seat 42 is provided with an annular groove 422 located at the upper part of the insulating floating seat 42 and surrounding the outer wall of the upper part of the insulating floating seat 42. The insulating floating seat 42 includes a barrel-shaped body 423. The insertion hole 421 penetrates the body 423 vertically. Specifically, the annular groove 422 surrounds the body 423 and is located at a position of the body 423 close to the upper end of the body 423. A protruding ring 424 protruding outward is formed on the outer wall of the body 423 adjacent to the lower part of the annular groove 422.

[0042] 9, the floating terminal 43 is preferably made of a metal conductive material having elasticity, and includes a mating portion 431, a floating connection portion 433, a horizontal fixing portion 434, and a soldering tail portion 432 connected in order. Here, the mating portion 431 and the soldering tail portion 432 are located at two ends of the floating terminal 43, respectively, the floating connection portion 433 is connected between the mating portion 431 and the horizontal fixing portion 434, and the horizontal fixing portion 434 is connected between the floating connection portion 433 and the soldering tail portion 432. The mating portion 431 is used to mate with the central conductive member 21 of the male connector 2, and the soldering tail portion 432 is used to be soldered to the circuit board 1 so as to electrically connect the floating terminal 43 and the circuit board 1. The floating connection portion 433 is used to enable the floating terminal 43 to float up, down, left, right, front, and back, and to enable the floating terminal 43 to float and mate with the male connector 2, and the horizontal fixing portion 434 is used to fix the lower end of the floating terminal 43 to the insulating fixing base 41.

[0043] 6 to 9, the fitting portion 431 extends into the insertion hole 421 of the insulating floating seat 42, and the floating connection portion 433 and the horizontal fixing portion 434 are received in the insulating fixing seat 41. Here, the floating connection portion 433 is received in the terminal receiving groove 41a, and there is a gap between the floating connection portion 433 and the groove wall of the terminal receiving groove 41a, so that the floating connection portion 433 can float in the terminal receiving groove 41a. The horizontal fixing portion 434 is received in correspondence with the terminal fixing groove 41b, and the soldering tail portion 432 is exposed to the outside of the insulating fixing seat 41.

[0044] The horizontal fixing portion 434 extends horizontally just below the fitting portion 431, the horizontal fixing portion 434 is received in the terminal fixing groove 41b, and the thickness of the horizontal fixing portion 434 matches the height of the terminal fixing groove 41b to ensure that the horizontal fixing portion 434 is firmly attached to the groove wall of the terminal fixing groove 41b. Specifically, in this embodiment, the heights of the first insertion groove 4131 and the second insertion groove 4141 constituting the terminal fixing groove 41b match the thickness of the horizontal fixing portion 434 so that the two sides of the horizontal fixing portion 434 are snapped into the first insertion groove 4131 and the second insertion groove 4141, respectively.

[0045] On the other hand, referring to FIG. 9, the soldering tail portion 432 is connected to the tip of the horizontal fixing portion 434, and the soldering tail portion 432 and the horizontal fixing portion 434 are connected with a step portion 4321 therebetween.

[0046] 9, 10 and 11, the mating portion 431 of the floating terminal 43 includes two mating elastic pieces 4313 facing each other, and the two mating elastic pieces 4313 form a slit between them. The corresponding sides of the lower parts of the two mating elastic pieces 4313 are connected to each other, and the upper parts of the two mating elastic pieces 4313 are separated from each other to form an insertion cavity 4318 that penetrates vertically between them. The insertion cavity 4318 is used for inserting the central conductive member 21 of the male connector 2 so that the central conductive member 21 of the male connector 2 and the mating portion 431 of the floating terminal 43 are electrically connected. The horizontal cross section of the two mating elastic pieces 4313 is a circular arc that curves toward each other so that the two mating elastic pieces 4313 have a centripetal force that converges toward the center of the insertion cavity 4318, ensuring that a reliable contact between the constriction portion 4315 and the central conductive member 21 is always maintained. The two mating elastic pieces 4313 converge toward the center of the insertion cavity 4318 at a position of the two mating elastic pieces 431 near the upper ends of the two mating elastic pieces 431 to form a constriction 4315 used to contact the central conductive member 21.

[0047] Specifically, the fitting portion 431 of the floating terminal 43 has a first slit 4311 and a second slit 4312. The first slit 4311 extends from the upper end of the insertion guide portion 4314 to the straight body portion 4317 and cuts through the straight body portion 4317. The second slit 4312 extends from the upper end of the insertion guide portion 4314 to the straight body portion 4317 but does not cut through the straight body portion 4317. The floating connection portion 433 is connected to the lower end of the straight body portion 4317 and is located directly below the second slit 4312.

[0048] The fitting portion 431 has an overall necked bottle shape. The fitting portion 431 includes, from bottom to top, a straight body portion 4317, a conical body portion 4316, a neck portion 4315, and an insertion guide portion 4314. The straight body portion 4317 has a constant diameter from top to bottom and is an incompletely closed body-like structure. The conical body portion 4316 is formed by tapering the diameter of the conical body portion 4316 upward from the straight body portion 4317. The insertion guide portion 4314 is formed by slightly expanding the diameter of the insertion guide portion 4314 upward from the conical body portion 4316. The neck portion 4315 is formed at the boundary position between the conical body portion 4316 and the insertion guide portion 4314.

[0049] 3, 9 and 14, the insertion guide portion 4314 is substantially trumpet-shaped and provides a mating guide for the central conductive member 21 of the male connector 2 to smoothly extend into the insertion cavity 4318 of the mating portion 431. When the central conductive member 21 extends into the insertion cavity 4318, the constricted portion 4315 contacts the outer periphery of the central conductive member 21 so as to envelop it, and the constricted portion 4315 and the central conductive member 21 form two contact zones each having a circular arc shape, which effectively promotes the contact area between the female connector 4 and the central conductive member 21, so that the female connector 4 and the central conductive member 21 can maintain reliable contact even in a vibration environment and establish a first electrical connection for transmitting signals. The metal shell 22 of the male connector 2 covers the outer periphery of the conductive shell 44 of the female connector 4, and the elastic mating piece 442 of the conductive shell 44 elastically abuts against the inner wall of the metal shell 22 to establish a second electrical connection and provide grounding.

[0050] 9 to 11, the floating connection portion 433 is elastically connected between the fitting portion 431 and the horizontal fixing portion 434. Since the floating connection portion 433 is formed by bending multiple times, the floating connection portion 433 can deform in various directions in a three-dimensional space, and therefore it is possible to realize floating of the floating terminal 43 in each of the left-right direction, the front-back direction, and the up-down direction.

[0051] For convenience of explanation, the left-right direction, the front-rear direction, and the up-down direction are defined as the X-axis direction, the Y-axis direction, and the Z-axis direction, respectively.

[0052] This embodiment functions as a mounting method for the floating connection part 433, and includes three linear extension parts that are sequentially bent and extended, and any two of the three linear extension parts are perpendicular to each other. That is, the three linear extension parts extend along the X-axis direction, the Y-axis direction, and the Z-axis direction in the three-dimensional space, respectively, and the three linear extension parts realize rotation by the respective bends.

[0053] Specifically, the floating connection portion 433 includes a first bent portion 4331, a first straight extension portion 4332, a second bent portion 4333, a second straight extension portion 4334, a third bent portion 4335, a third straight extension portion 4336, and a fourth bent portion 4337 connected in sequence.

[0054] The first bent portion 4331 is formed by bending the lower end of the fitting portion 431 90 degrees toward the X-axis direction, the first linear extension portion 4332 is connected to the first bent portion 4331 and formed by extending horizontally from the horizontal tip of the first bent portion 4331 toward the X-axis direction, the second bent portion 4333 is formed by bending the first linear extension portion 4332 90 degrees toward the Z-axis direction, and the second linear extension portion 4334 is connected to the second bent portion 4333 and formed by extending vertically downward from the lower end of the second bent portion 4333 toward the Z-axis direction. The third bend portion 4335 is formed by bending 90 degrees from the second straight extension portion 4334 along the horizontal direction, the third straight extension portion 4336 is formed by being connected to the third bend portion 4335 and extending perpendicularly from the third bend portion 4335 to the second straight extension portion 4334, the fourth bend portion 4337 is formed by bending 90 degrees from the third straight extension portion 4336 toward the Y-axis direction, and the horizontal fixing portion 434 is formed by being connected to the fourth bend portion 4337 and extending from the horizontal tip of the fourth bend portion 4337 toward the Y-axis direction (horizontal direction).

[0055] The three straight extension portions and four bent portions of the floating connection portion 433 form a flexible connection therebetween, so that the floating connection portion 433 and the mating portion 431 can float relative to each other, the floating connection portion 433 and the horizontal fixed portion 434 can float relative to each other, and the three straight extension portions of the floating connection portion 433, which respectively extend in various directions in three-dimensional space, can also float relative to each other, thereby realizing the floating terminal 43 to float in various directions in three-dimensional space.

[0056] 13a to 14, the floating connection portion 433 is received in the terminal receiving groove 41a of the main fixing base 411, and the terminal receiving groove 41a and the floating connection portion 433 have a gap therebetween so that the floating connection portion 433 has a floating space.

[0057] The terminal receiving groove 41a has a spacing member extending between various portions of the floating connecting portion 433. The spacing member can function to limit the elastic deformation of each portion of the floating connecting portion 433, and avoid the floating range of the floating terminal 43 in the terminal receiving groove 41a being too large to affect the mating stability between the floating terminal 43 and the male connector 2.

[0058] 11, specifically, in this embodiment, two opposite sides of the first linear extension 4332 each have a bent arm 4338 extending downward, and the bent arm 4338 has a suspended free end. The two bent arms 4338 facing each other can promote the capacitive reactance of the floating terminal 43 to achieve impedance matching, and can further cooperate with the auxiliary fixing seat 412 to achieve the function of auxiliary fixing.

[0059] 7 and 13b, the auxiliary fixing seat 412 is provided with a spacing block 4121. The spacing block 4121 is interposed between the bent arm 4338 of the floating terminal 43 and the horizontal fixing portion 434 of the floating terminal 43 to realize auxiliary fixing of the floating terminal 43. At the same time, the spacing block 4121 can also function to some extent as a position limit for the elastic deformation of the floating terminal 43, to prevent the floating terminal 43 from floating excessively and affecting the mating stability between the floating terminal 43 and the male connector 2.

[0060] 6 again, the first position limiting wall 413 of the main fixed base 411 is further provided with a protruding stop wall 4111. The stop wall 4111 stops below the first bent portion 4331 of the floating terminal 43 to limit excessive floating of the first bent portion 4331.

[0061] 12, 13a and 13b, the conductive shell 44 is made of a conductive material and covers the insulating fixed seat 41 and the insulating floating seat 42. The conductive shell 44 includes an annular sleeve portion 441 and a plurality of elastic fitting pieces 442 extending upward from the sleeve portion 441. The sleeve portion 441 covers the insulating fixed seat 41, and a lower end of the sleeve portion 441 is provided with a plurality of soldering legs 444 extending outward. The soldering legs 444 are used to fix the conductive shell 44 and the circuit board 1 by soldering.

[0062] The sleeve portion 441 is provided with at least one latch 445 protruding inward, and when the conductive shell 44 covers the insulating fixing seat 41, the latch 445 of the sleeve portion 441 may extend into the groove 4113 of the insulating fixing seat 41 by stamping (as shown in FIG. 7 ) so as to achieve relative fixation between the sleeve portion 441 and the insulating fixing seat 41.

[0063] The tip of each elastic fitting piece 442 extends into and is received in the annular groove 422 of the insulating floating seat 42. Specifically, the multiple elastic fitting pieces 442 are distributed along the upper end of the sleeve portion 441 at intervals in the circumferential direction to form a cage shape. The upper end of the elastic fitting piece 442 is bent toward the central axis of the conductive shell 44 to form a bent hook 443. The bent hook 443 is suspended and engaged with the protruding ring 424 of the insulating floating seat 42, and the tip of the bent hook 443 extends into the annular groove 422 and has a gap between it and the protruding ring 422, preventing the insulating floating seat 42 from coming off the insulating fixed seat 41 and allowing the insulating floating seat 42 to float in a narrow range in the horizontal and vertical directions. The protruding ring 424 can function as a position limit on the bent hook 443 to prevent the bent hook 443 from coming off the annular groove 422.

[0064] Because the elastic mating piece 442 has elasticity, the elastic mating piece 442 can be appropriately deformed to allow the insulating floating seat 42 to float relative to the insulating fixed seat 41, and in the floating process of the insulating floating seat 42, the elastic mating piece 442 can also appropriately restrain the insulating floating seat 42 to ensure that the insulating floating seat 42 is not detached from the insulating fixed seat 41.

[0065] 3 and 14 for comparison, Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the electrical connector assembly 100 of the present disclosure showing a mated state between the female connector 4 and the male connector 2 of the first embodiment (without mating tolerance), and Fig. 14 shows a mated state between the female connector 4 and the male connector 2a of the first embodiment (with mating tolerance).

[0066] The male connector 2 of Fig. 3 has been presented in the above description, so a repeated description is omitted, and the male connector 2a of Fig. 14 is slightly different from the male connector 2 of Fig. 3. The male connector 2a of Fig. 14 includes a central conductor 21a, an insulating seat 23a to which the central conductor 21a is attached, and a metal shell 22a. The metal shell 22a includes a first metal shell 221a and a second metal shell 222a, which are mated and connected to each other to form a mounting passage penetrating the metal shell 22a, and the central conductive member 21a and the insulating seat 23 are received in the mounting passage.

[0067] 3, when the female connector 4 and the male connector 2 are mated with each other, the female connector 4 is received in the main mounting housing 3, the male connector 2 is inserted into the mating posts 31 of the main mounting housing 3, the central conductive member 21 of the male connector 2 is inserted into the mating portion 431 at the upper end of the floating terminal 43 of the female connector 4, the central conductive member 21 is clamped by the two mating elastic pieces 4313 of the mating portion 431 to realize the electrical connection between the floating terminal 43 and the central conductive member 21, the conductive shell 44 of the female connector 4 extends into the metal shell 22 of the male connector 2, and the conductive shell 44 of the female connector 4 contacts the inner wall of the metal shell 22 to realize the electrical connection between the conductive shell 44 and the metal shell 22, in the male connector 2 and the female connector 4, the electrical signal transmission is realized by the conduction between the central conductive member 21 and the floating terminal 43, and the signal shielding is realized by the conduction between the metal shell 22 and the conductive shell 44 to filter noise.

[0068] 14, when there is an assembly tolerance between the female connector 4 and the male connector 2a, an axial misalignment occurs between the male connector 2a and the female connector 4. At this time, the central conductive member 21a of the male connector 2a can still be aligned with the edge of the mating portion 431 of the female connector 4, and the central conductive member 21a is guided using the trumpet-shaped opening of the insertion guide portion 4314 at the upper end of the mating portion 431. The central conductive member 21a is smoothly inserted into the mating portion 431. At the same time, the floating terminal 43, the insulating floating seat 42 and the elastic mating piece 442 of the conductive shell 44 of the female connector 4 also skew following the central conductive member 21a. After the skew, the mating portion 431 can still maintain a secure fit with the central conductive member 21a, and the conductive shell 44 can still maintain a secure fit with the second metal shell 222a of the male connector 2a. Even in a vibrating environment, the floating terminal 43 can deform in response to vibrations in various directions, such as left and right, front and back, and up and down. Even after deformation, the floating terminal 43 still maintains a secure fit with the male connector 2a, thereby ensuring the stability of signal transmission. When the floating terminal 43 floats, the insulating floating seat 42 can also float following the floating terminal 43, which is advantageous for the floating terminal 43 to float in all directions, and at the same time, it is also advantageous for maintaining the deformed state of the floating terminal 43, allowing the floating terminal 43 to better adapt to assembly tolerances, and maintaining normal operation in a vibrating environment.
