AI Technical Summary
Existing removable handles for cooking containers with outwardly curved portions tend to experience unintended displacement when subjected to sudden changes in movement, such as turning food inside out, due to the retraction of the latch under force from the free end of the curved portion.
A removable handle design featuring a latch with a convex member and a concave member that engage in a specific manner to prevent latch retraction when a large load is applied to the free end, ensuring the latch remains locked and reducing relative movement between the handle and the container.
The design enhances safety and user experience by maintaining a secure attachment between the removable handle and the cooking container, even under varying loads and movements, thus preventing unintended displacement.

Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a cooking vessel having a sidewall extending upwardly with an outwardly curved portion, a removable handle designed to cooperate with said cooking vessel, for example a pot, frying pan or stewpot. [Background technology]
[0002] Document EP 3319497 discloses a removable handle designed to cooperate with a cooking vessel having a side wall extending upwards with an outwardly curved portion including a free end. The removable handle extends in the longitudinal direction and comprises an inner support and an outer support designed to rest against the inner and outer surfaces of the side wall, respectively, and an upper support designed to rest against the free end of the curved portion. The removable handle comprises a latch movable between an open position and a closed position. The latch comprises a locking wall designed to move away from the inner support when the latch is in the open position and to generate a force at the free end under the action of a pressure means when the latch is in the closed position. The force comprises a vertical component that locks the free end of the curved portion against the upper support.
[0003] Thus, when the removable handle is attached to the cooking vessel, the latch is in a closed position, the side walls are held between the inner and outer supports, and the curved portion is held between the upper support and the locking wall.
[0004] However, in a special usage, particularly when a user wishes to turn over food contained in the cooking container, and moves the cooking container up and down by holding the removable handle of the cooking container, and then suddenly releases the movement at the end, the free end of the curved portion generates a force on the locking wall that counteracts the force of the pressure means, which tends to cause the latch to retract.
[0005] Therefore, the user may feel an unintended displacement between the removable handle and the cooking container. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0006] The object of the present invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and to propose a removable handle designed to cooperate with the cooking vessel and provide an improved support allowing the user to handle it easily and safely.
[0007] Another object of the invention is to propose a removable handle that has a simple design and can be economically implemented. [Means for solving the problem]
[0008] These goals are achieved with a removable handle designed to cooperate with a cooking vessel having a side wall extending upwards by an outwardly curved portion including a free end, the removable handle extending in a longitudinal direction and comprising an inner support and an outer support designed to rest against the inner and outer surfaces of the side wall, respectively, and an upper support designed to rest against the free end of the curved portion, the removable handle comprising a latch movable between an open position and a closed position, the removable handle comprising a locking wall designed to move away from the inner support when the latch is in the open position and designed to generate a force at the free end under the action of a pressure means when the latch is in the closed position, the force comprising a vertical component F for locking the free end of the curved portion against the upper support, the latch comprising a convex member and the removable handle comprising a concave member or vice versa, characterized in that in the closed position the convex member and the concave member are mutually engaged to prevent retraction of the latch when the free end generates a force on the locking wall of a strength greater than a predetermined value, the strength of which is a component F1 opposite to the vertical locking component F.
[0009] Thus, when a large load is applied to the free end of the locking wall, the latch is locked in the closed position and cannot be retracted, thereby reducing the relative movement between the removable handle and the cooking vessel, thereby improving safety and quality as perceived by the user.
[0010] By vertical latching component it is understood that the component is perpendicular to a longitudinal direction which is substantially horizontal.
[0011] Advantageously, when the latch moves away from the closed position to the open position, the convex and concave members automatically disengage from one another.
[0012] Advantageously, the convex and concave members extend in a vertical plane parallel to the longitudinal direction such that the convex or concave member can move vertically perpendicular to the longitudinal direction between a locked position in which the latch cannot be retracted and an unlocked position in which the latch can be retracted.
[0013] Thus, when the free end generates a force on the locking wall that has a component F1 opposite to the vertical locking component F, the convex member moves in the direction of the vertical locking component F towards the concave member.
[0014] Preferably, the convex member is located adjacent the latch wall.
[0015] The latch is guided in the removable handle with an operating play that is sized to allow the locking wall to move downwardly in the closed position, thereby allowing the convex member to move into the concave member.
[0016] Advantageously, the predetermined value of the intensity of the component F1 is greater than 0.05 times the intensity of the vertical component F measured when the latch is in the closed position.
[0017] Thus, the convex or concave member moves to a locked position in which the latch cannot be retracted as soon as the blocking wall acts on the free end under the action of the pressure means. For example, the predetermined value of the strength of the component F1 is greater than 1N.
[0018] Advantageously, the concave member is disposed on a clip attached to the removable handle, the clip including an upper support.
[0019] Thus, the clip and latch may be made from a sturdy metal material, and the removable handle may include a plastic body that is more economical than a metal material.
[0020] Preferably, the convex member includes at least one tooth and the concave member includes at least one receiving notch shaped to correspond to the at least one tooth.
[0021] Cooperation of the teeth with correspondingly shaped receiving notches allows the latch to effectively lock in the closed position.
[0022] Advantageously, at least one tooth includes a flat surface inclined at an angle β relative to a vertical direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, the angle β being greater than 15°, and at least one notch includes a flat surface inclined at the same angle.
[0023] Thus, when the latch leaves the closed position, at least one tooth is able to exit the at least one notch without jamming.
[0024] Preferably, the removable handle includes means for returning the latch to an open position disposed between the clip and the latch.
[0025] Such a provision may in particular facilitate the movement of the convex or concave member from the locked position to the unlocked position.
[0026] Advantageously, the convex member includes a plurality of teeth forming at least a first rack and the concave member includes a plurality of receiving notches forming at least a second rack, the first rack and the second rack having the same pitch P.
[0027] Thus, some teeth and some notches can contribute to locking the latch in a closed position.
[0028] Advantageously, the pitch P is less than 2 millimeters.
[0029] Preferably, the at least one first rack includes a first right rack and a first left rack, and the at least one second rack includes a second right rack and a second left rack, and the first right rack and the first left rack, and the second right rack and the second left rack have the same pitch P.
[0030] Advantageously, the first right rack and the first left rack extend parallel to the longitudinal direction and offset by half a pitch, or the second right rack and the second left rack extend parallel to the longitudinal direction and offset by half a pitch.
[0031] Thus, the latch in the closed position can move a distance of up to half a pitch by cooperation of the first right rack and the second right rack, or the first left rack and the second left rack, before locking.
[0032] Preferably, the latch is movable in a longitudinal direction and the locking wall is inclined in a vertical cross-sectional plane including the longitudinal direction to form an angle α with the longitudinal direction that is greater than 45°.
[0033] The free ends therefore mutually exert a force on the locking wall which consists of a vertical locking component substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.
[0034] Advantageously, the locking wall is designed to cooperate with the lower end of the free end when the latch is in the closed position.
[0035] The "lower end of the free end" refers to the intersection of the outer surface of the curved portion that extends along the outer surface of the side wall with a substantially vertical plane that is offset by a predetermined value toward the outside of the wall.
[0036] Advantageously, the upper support comprises a seat surface designed to cooperate with the upper end of the free end of the curved portion.
[0037] The "upper end of the free end" refers to the intersection of the inner surface of the curved portion that extends along the inner surface of the side wall with a substantially vertical plane that is offset by a predetermined value toward the outside of the wall.
[0038] The bottom and top indicate the thickness of the free end of the curved portion.
[0039] "A seat designed to cooperate with the upper end" means that when the removable handle is attached to the cooking vessel, the seat prevents the upper end from moving in a vertical cross-section in a direction consisting of a vertical component, an upward direction, and a horizontal component, radially outward of the cooking vessel.
[0040] Preferably, the biasing means comprises a compression spring which biases the latch longitudinally when the latch is in the closed position.
[0041] This arrangement allows the location of the latch to be adapted to the thickness and length of the free end.
[0042] Advantageously, the removable handle includes an operating means for the toggle latch, the operating means including a lever, a connecting rod and a compression spring.
[0043] This arrangement provides an ergonomic means of operating the latch.
[0044] Advantageously, the latch is capable of moving relative to one another while the three supports, the inner support, the outer support and the upper support, are fixed in an interdependent manner.
[0045] The present invention also relates to an assembly formed by at least one cooking vessel including a sidewall extending upwardly with an outwardly curved portion having a free end with an upper end and a lower end, and provided with a removable handle as described above. [Figure 7] FIG. 7 illustrates an exploded perspective view of the latch and clip of the removable handle shown in FIG. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0048] It should be noted that the terms "horizontal," "vertical," "lower," "upper," "vertical," "side," "top," and "lower" used in this document to describe the removable handle and cooking vessel refer to the removable handle when positioned for use and attached to a side wall of the cooking vessel and when the contents are positioned on a horizontal surface.
[0049] As can be seen in Figures 1 to 3, the removable handle 1 is designed to cooperate with a cooking vessel 60 which includes a horizontal bottom wall 68, a side wall 61 upstanding from the bottom wall 68, and an outwardly curved portion 64. The side wall 61 has an inner surface 62 and an outer surface 63. The curved portion 64 extends the side wall 61 to delimit an upper opening of the cooking vessel 60. The curved portion 64 has a free end 65 having an upper end 66 and a lower end 67. The upper end 66 and the lower end 67 are preferably overlapped in a vertical plane.
[0050] The removable handle 1 extends in a longitudinal direction 3. At its front end directed towards the cooking vessel 60, the removable handle 1 comprises a gripping body 2 including a front wall 4 forming an outer support 14 designed to cooperate with an outer surface 63 of a side wall 61. In one vertical cross section directed in the longitudinal direction 3 (Figures 2 and 3), the outer support 14 is substantially vertical. The removable handle 1 comprises a central vertical plane extending along the longitudinal direction 3 and forming a plane of symmetry of the removable handle 1.
[0051] The removable handle 1 has a clip 50 made of a metal material. The clip 50 comprises two protrusions arranged on either side of a vertical central plane. Two tabs 51a, 51b form an upper support 15 designed to cooperate with an upper end 66 of a free end 65. The two tabs 51a, 51b extend along the longitudinal direction 3 at the front end.
[0052] The removable handle 1 comprises a structural part 10 made of a metal material. The structural part 10 is substantially flat and comprises an end tab 13. The end tab 13 comprises an inner wall extending downwards and forming an inner support 12 designed to cooperate with an inner surface 62 of a side wall 61.
[0053] The inner support 12 and the outer support 14 are offset in the longitudinal direction 3 (FIG. 3) to allow for introduction of the side wall 61 and the free end 65 when attaching the removable handle 1 to the cooking vessel 60.
[0054] The removable handle 1 comprises a latch body formed by a latch 20 movable in a longitudinal direction 3 between an open position (FIG. 3) and a closed position (FIG. 2). The latch 20 comprises a substantially flat central portion 22 extending along the longitudinal direction 3. A clip 50 is mounted beneath the structural part 10 to define a receiving slot 23 that guides movement of the central portion 22 of the latch 20. One front end of the latch 20 comprises a locking wall 21.
[0055] As seen in FIG. 3, when the latch 20 is in the open position, the locking wall 21 is designed to move away from the upper support 15 so that the side wall 61 can be inserted between the inner support 12 and the outer support 14 and so that the upper end 66 of the free end 65 can rest against the upper support 15.
[0056] 2 and 4, when the latch 20 is in the closed position, the locking wall 21 is designed to rest against the lower end 67 of the free end 65, thus blocking the upper end 66 against the upper support 15. In a vertical cross section including the longitudinal direction 3, a straight line on the locking wall 21 and the longitudinal direction form an angle α of 40 to 50°, preferably 45°.
[0057] According to FIG. 7, the latch 20 comprises a convex member 24 formed by a plurality of teeth 26a of the first right rack 25a and a plurality of teeth 26b of the first left rack 25b. The first right rack 25a and the first left rack 25b are located in the vicinity of the locking wall 21. The first right rack 25a and the first left rack 25b extend along the longitudinal direction 3 and are located on either side of a vertical central plane. The plurality of teeth 26a of the first right rack 25a and the plurality of teeth 26b of the first left rack 25b have the same pitch P equal to 1.3 millimeters. The first right rack 25a and the first left rack 25b extend parallel to the longitudinal direction 3 and are offset by half a pitch. Each tooth 26a of the first right rack 25a and each tooth 26b of the first left rack 25b extends downwards in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction 3. Each tooth 26a of the first right rack 25a and each tooth 26b of the first left rack 25b is provided with a flat surface 27a, 27b inclined at an angle β equal to 20° with respect to a vertical direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction 3.
[0058] The clip 50 is fixed to the structural part 10, which is itself fixed to the gripper 2 and to the front wall 4 by means of two screws 7, 8 (Fig. 5). The clip 50 comprises a concave member 54 formed by a number of notches 56a defining a second right rack 55a and a number of notches 56b defining a second left rack 55b. The second right rack 55a and the second left rack 55b extend along the longitudinal direction 3 and are located on either side of a vertical central plane. The number of notches 56a of the second right rack 55a and the number of notches 56b of the second left rack 55b have the same pitch P, which is equal to 1.3 millimeters. The second right rack 55a and the second left rack 55b extend parallel to the longitudinal direction 3 with a half pitch P offset therebetween, and each notch 56a of the second right rack 55a and each notch 56b of the second left rack 55b extend upward in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction 3. Each notch 56a of the second right rack 55a and each notch 56b of the second left rack 55b include flat surfaces 57a, 57b inclined at an angle β equal to 20° with respect to a vertical direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction 3.
[0059] When the latch 20 is in the closed position, the convex member 24 and the concave member 54 are engaged with each other such that the free ends 65 exert a force on the locking wall 21 with a downwardly directed vertical component F1, the strength of which is greater than a predetermined value, i.e. 1.25 N, equal to 0.05 times the strength of the vertical component F measured when the latch 20 is in the closed position, i.e. approximately 25 N. By the strength of the vertical component F measured when the latch 20 is in the closed position, it is understood that the strength of the vertical component F is measured with the action of the pressure means 47 as the only stress. The central portion 22 of the latch 20 is guided for movement in the slot 23 with a vertical play sufficient to allow the convex member to move in and out of the concave member.
[0060] 5 and 6, the removable handle 1 comprises a retraction means for the latch 20 disposed between a tab 58 carried by the clip 50 and a stop 28 carried by the latch 20. The retraction means is provided by a spring 11 adapted to be compressed when the latch 20 is in a closed position and to apply a return force to the stop 28 to drive the latch 20 towards its open position.
[0061] 2 and 3, the removable handle 1 comprises a means for moving the latch body formed by the latch 20. The moving means comprises a lever 30 which is pivotable on the grip body 2 along a pivot axis 34 extending laterally perpendicular to the longitudinal direction 3, and a connecting rod 40 which allows the movement of the latch 20 when the lever 30 is pivoted. The connecting rod 40 is pivotally attached at a first end to the latch 20 along an axis 43 and at a second end to the lever 30 along an axis 44, respectively, and is slidably attached in an oblong opening 31 formed in the lever 30 (FIG. 5).
[0062] The lever 30 is disposed on the underside 6 of the gripping body 2 and is movable between a closed position and an open position after moving through an unbalanced intermediate position. When the lever 30 is in the closed position, the latch 20 is in the closed position, and when the lever 30 is in the open position, the latch 20 is in the open position. The moving means further comprises a spring 47 disposed between a slidingly mounted shaft 44 and the lateral wall 32 of the lever 30. This compression spring 47 allows the closed position of the latch 20 to be adjusted to suit the thickness of the side wall 61 of the cooking vessel 60.
[0063] 2, when the lever 30 is in the closed position, the axis 44 about which the second end 42 pivots is located above the line passing through the pivot axis 34 and the axis 43. The second end 42 is held in contact with the structural part 10 under the action of the compression spring 47. Thus, the latch 20 naturally remains in its closed position even if the user does not continue to apply force to the removable handle 1. When the axis 44 about which the second end 42 pivots moves below the line passing through the pivot axis 34 and the axis 43, an intermediate position is reached where the balance of the lever 30 becomes unstable.
[0064] As can be seen in Figures 1 to 5, the removable handle 1 comprises a release button 17 which allows the lever 30 to be moved from its initial closed position beyond its intermediate position in a precarious balance. The release button 17 is located on the upper surface of the grip body 2. The release button 17 can be rotated about a transverse axis horizontal to the longitudinal direction 3 of the removable handle 1. The release button 17 is movable between a lowered rest position in which the lever 30 is in a closed position, an intermediate raised position in which the lever is in a precariously balanced intermediate position, and a raised position in which the lever is in an open position.
[0065] In operation, to remove the removable handle 1 from the cooking vessel 60, a user grasps the gripping body 2 and uses his or her thumb to rotate the release button 17 from a lowered, resting position where the lever 30 is in the closed position to a raised position where the lever 30 is in the open position. The movement of the lever 30 from the closed position to the open position causes the latch 20 to move by the connecting rod 40 from the closed position to the open position.
[0066] To attach the removable handle 1 to the cooking vessel 60, the user grips the gripping body 2 and moves the latch 20 to its open position following the same procedure as above. The user introduces the free end 65 of the curved portion 64 between the inner support 12 and the outer support 14, so that the inner surface 62 of the side wall 61 abuts against the inner support 12, the outer surface 63 of the side wall 61 abuts against the outer support 14, and the upper end 66 abuts against the two protrusions 51a, 51b. Next, the user pushes the lever 30 to move it from the open position to the closed position, thereby moving the latch 20 from the open position to the closed position. Then, the lock wall 21 abuts against the lower end 67 of the free end 65, so that the upper end 66 can be locked against the two protrusions 51a, 51b. Then, the free end 65 of the curved portion 64 generates a force on the lock wall 21 with a component F1 opposite to the vertical lock component F in a downward direction, moving the lock wall 21 downward. At least one of the teeth 26a, 26b of the first right rack 25a or the first left rack 26a is attached to one of the notches 56a, 56b of the second right rack 55a or the second left rack 55b, and the latch 20 moves to the closed position. For special applications, particularly when a user wishes to flip a food item contained in the cooking vessel 60, for example a crepe, the latch 20 will not retract even if the user holds the removable handle 1 of the cooking vessel 60, makes an up-down movement, and then suddenly slows down the movement at the end.
[0067] Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the described and illustrated embodiments, which are provided only as examples: modifications can be made, particularly with regard to the arrangement of the various elements or by substituting technical equivalents, without departing from the scope of protection of the invention.
[0068] In an alternative embodiment, in the closed position, the latch 20 can be moved between an unlatched closed position where the convex member 24 and the concave member 54 are separated from one another, and a latched closed position where the convex member 24 and the concave member 54 are nested together to prevent retraction of the latch 20 when the free end 65 exerts a force on the locking wall 21 with a component F1 opposite to the vertical locking component F measured when the latch 20 is in the closed position. When a heavy load is applied to the free end 65 of the locking wall 21, the latch 20 moves to the locked closed position.
