Provided are a metallic pigment composition endowed with high water resistance as well as exceptional optical properties and water dispersibility, and a novel method for producing the metallic pigment composition. The present invention is a metallic pigment composition containing metal particles of which the surface is coated with a polysiloxane compound, the metallic pigment composition characterized in that the surface roughness Ra is 0.0-2.0 nm when the roughness of the polysiloxane compound layer present on the particle surface is evaluated by AFM.
