A camera captures a portion of the surrounding scene to obtain a user view, disambiguation information is obtained that uniquely identifies at least one controllable device or a group of controllable devices in a set of controllable devices of a given type, or at least one location or orientation of a mobile controllable device, the user view and the disambiguation information for the at least one controllable device superimposed on the user view are displayed on a display, a command intended to control the at least one controllable device is received, and the command including at least a portion of the disambiguation information and a message based on the command are sent toward the corresponding controllable device.
