Abstract
Description
Desk and arm with speakers
[0001] This application claims priority from Japanese Patent Application No. 2022-073190, filed April 27, 2022, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
[0002] When a user plays a video game or enjoys video content, the user may sit in a chair and look at a display placed on a desk in front of the chair while listening to sound that accompanies the image displayed on the display. Some sounds that accompany images are surround sound. In order for a user to hear surround sound while sitting in front of a desk (facing the desk), the sound needs to be emitted toward the user not only from the front (desk side) of the user sitting in the chair, but also from the sides and rear.
[0003] Patent Document 1 discloses a desk in which a speaker unit is arranged on the edge of the tabletop facing the user's seated position. Patent Document 2 discloses a configuration in which speakers are provided on both sides of a chair using arms. For example, by combining the configurations of Patent Documents 1 and 2, the speakers provided on both sides of the chair can be used as rear speakers that radiate sound toward the user from the sides or rear, allowing the user to hear surround sound.
[0004] Japanese Patent Publication No. 2003-144234 Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 1983-107330
[0005] When rear speakers attached to a chair are not in use, they can get in the way of the user, so it is preferable to put them away. However, attaching and detaching the rear speakers and arms to and from the chair is a tedious process. Furthermore, space must be provided to accommodate the rear speakers and arms once they are removed from the chair. This creates the problem of cumbersome setup and removal of the rear speakers. While it may be possible to place the rear speakers on the working end of the desk top, this is not desirable because the working end of the desk top is easily reachable by the user's arms and hands.
[0006] The present disclosure has been made in view of the above-mentioned circumstances, and an example of an object of the present disclosure is to provide a desk with speakers and an arm that allow speakers that function as rear speakers to be easily installed and removed.
[0007] One aspect of the present disclosure is a desk with speakers comprising: a desk having a top panel; two arms attached to the desk, which are positioned entirely below the top panel when in a storage position, and which have tips that are movable between the storage position and a use position in which they protrude from the edge of the top panel surface when viewed from a direction perpendicular to the top panel surface of the top panel; and two speakers provided at the tips of the two arms, respectively, wherein the two speakers are positioned below the top panel when the two arms are in the storage position.

[0010] First Embodiment A first embodiment of the present disclosure will be described below with reference to Figures 1 to 4. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, a desk with speakers 1 of the first embodiment includes a desk 2, two arms 3, and two rear speakers 4 (speakers). Furthermore, the desk with speakers 1 includes a front speaker 5 and a display 6.
[0011] The desk 2 includes a top panel 11 and legs 12. The top panel 11 is formed in a flat plate shape with its thickness oriented in the vertical direction, and has a top surface 11a facing upward. The legs 12 are attached to the underside of the top panel 11 and support the top panel 11 from below. The legs 12 position the top panel 11 above and spaced from a placement surface (not shown) on which the desk 2 is placed.
[0012] In the drawings, the up-down direction (the thickness direction of the tabletop portion 11) is indicated as the Z-axis direction. The positive Z-axis direction indicates the upper side or upper side, and the negative Z-axis direction indicates the lower side or lower side. Also, in the drawings, directions perpendicular to the Z-axis direction (directions along the tabletop surface 11a) are indicated as the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction. In the speaker-equipped desk 1 of this embodiment, it is assumed that the user is positioned on the Y-axis positive side of the desk 2. Therefore, in the following description, the position of the user facing the desk 2 is used as a reference, and the X-axis direction is the width direction of the desk 2, and the Y-axis direction is the front-to-rear direction of the desk 2. Also, the positive Y-axis direction is the front side or front side, and the negative Y-axis direction is the rear side or rear side.
[0013] Two arms 3 are attached to the desk 2. Each of the two arms 3 is movable between a storage position P1 and a use position P2. The storage position P1 is a position where the entire arm 3 is positioned below the tabletop portion. The use position P2 is a position where the arm 3 protrudes from the edge of the tabletop surface 11a of the tabletop portion 11 when viewed from a direction perpendicular to the tabletop surface 11a (the Z-axis direction). In this embodiment, when the arm 3 is positioned at the use position P2, the arm 3 protrudes from the edge of the tabletop surface 11a in a direction along the tabletop surface 11a. The two arms 3 positioned at the use position P2 are spaced apart from each other and extend parallel to each other from the edge of the tabletop surface 11a. Specifically, the two arms 3 positioned at the use position P2 are positioned at both ends of the tabletop portion 11 in the width direction. Furthermore, these two arms 3 each extend forward (toward the user) from the front edge of the tabletop surface 11a. The two arms 3 arranged at the use position P2 are arranged so as to form a space sandwiched between the two arms 3.
[0014] In this embodiment, each arm 3 is attached to the desk 2 so as to be linearly movable between a storage position P1 and a use position P2. Specifically, each arm 3 is composed of a single rod-shaped member extending linearly. Each arm 3 is movable in the front-to-rear direction (Y-axis direction) relative to the desk 2 between the storage position P1 and the use position P2 by means of a rail 9 attached to the underside 11b of the tabletop 11. Therefore, in this embodiment, the arm 3 placed at the storage position P1 is positioned below the tabletop 11 so that its longitudinal direction is aligned with the front-to-rear direction of the desk 2. The arms 3 and rails 9 in this embodiment described above are each formed in a cylindrical shape having a hollow interior.
[0015] The two rear speakers 4 are respectively provided at the tip ends of the two arms 3. The tip ends of the arms 3 are located at the ends of the arms 3 in the protruding direction when the arms 3 are positioned in the use position P2. When the arms 3 are positioned in the storage position P1, each rear speaker 4 is located below the top panel 11 together with the arms 3. The two rear speakers 4 are preferably positioned so that sound from the rear speakers 4 is radiated toward the space between the two arms 3 when the two arms 3 are positioned in the use position P2. In other words, the two rear speakers 4 are preferably positioned so that sound is radiated toward a user positioned between the two arms 3 positioned in the use position P2. In FIG. 1 , the radiation surface 4a of the rear speaker 4, from which sound is mainly radiated, faces the space between the two arms 3 positioned in the use position P2.
[0016] As shown in FIG. 3 , the rear speaker 4 is rotatably attached to the tip of the arm 3. In this embodiment, the rear speaker 4 is rotatable relative to the arm 3 about a first axis R1 extending in the front-to-rear direction (Y-axis direction), a second axis R2 extending in the up-down direction (Z-axis direction), and a third axis R3 extending in the width direction (X-axis direction). By rotating the rear speaker 4 about the first axis R1 relative to the arm 3, the direction of the sound emitted from the rear speaker 4 can be changed in the up-down direction. Furthermore, by rotating the rear speaker 4 about the second axis R2 relative to the arm 3, the direction of the sound emitted from the rear speaker 4 can be changed in the front-to-rear direction. The rear speaker 4 may be attached to the tip of the arm 3 by, for example, a ball joint. The rear speaker 4 may be rotatable relative to the arm 3 about one or two of the first axis R1, the second axis R2, and the third axis R3. A structure such as a ball joint that rotatably attaches the rear speaker 4 to the arm 3 may be configured so that the orientation of the rear speaker 4 relative to the arm 3 is maintained unless an external force acts on the rear speaker 4, for example.
[0017] 4, electrical wiring 7 extending from the rear speaker 4 is inserted inside each cylindrical arm 3. The electrical wiring 7 is used to transmit electrical signals from an amplifier (not shown) or the like to the rear speaker 4 to generate sound in the rear speaker 4. In this embodiment, the electrical wiring 7 is also inserted into a cylindrical rail 9.
[0018] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the front speaker 5 is provided on the top panel surface 11a. The radiation surface 5a of the front speaker 5, from which sound is mainly emitted, faces forward. In this embodiment, the front speakers 5 are arranged at both ends and the center of the top panel surface 11a in the width direction. The front speaker 5 arranged in the center functions as a center speaker. The front speaker 5 may be detachable from the top panel 11, or may be fixed to the top panel 11.
[0019] The display 6 is provided on the top panel surface 11a, similar to the front speakers 5. The display surface 6a of the display 6, which displays images and videos, faces forward. The display 6 may be detachable from the top panel 11, or may be fixed to the top panel 11.
[0020] In the desk 1 with speakers configured as described above, the user faces the front speaker 5 in the front-to-rear direction while positioned between the two arms 3 arranged at the use position P2. In this position, the front speaker 5 is positioned in front of the user, and the two rear speakers 4 are positioned to the side or rear of the user. This allows the user to hear surround sound emitted from the two rear speakers 4 and the front speaker 5. Furthermore, the desk 1 with speakers can output sounds from the rear speaker 4 and the front speaker 5 that are synchronized with the image displayed on the display surface 6a of the display 6. Therefore, the desk 1 with speakers can be used to enjoy, for example, video games and various video content.
[0021] As described above, in the speaker-equipped desk 1 of this embodiment, the rear speakers 4 are provided at the tips of two arms 3 that extend parallel to each other from the edge of the top panel 11 along the top panel surface 11a. This allows the user of the speaker-equipped desk 1 to face the desk 2 so that they are positioned between the two arms 3, thereby positioning the two rear speakers 4 on either side of the user. In other words, sound can be emitted from these two rear speakers 4 toward either the left or right or rear of the user. Furthermore, in the speaker-equipped desk 1, the two arms 3, each with a rear speaker 4 at its tip, are movable between a storage position P1 and a usage position P2. This allows the rear speakers 4 to be easily installed and removed.
[0022] Furthermore, in the speaker-equipped desk 1 of this embodiment, the arm 3 can move linearly in the longitudinal direction of the arm 3 between the storage position P1 and the use position P2 relative to the desk 2. As a result, the trajectory along which the arm 3 moves between the storage position P1 and the use position P2 is limited to the longitudinal direction of the arm 3, and the space required for moving the arm 3 in and out of the desk 2 can be kept to a minimum.
[0023] Furthermore, in the speaker-equipped desk 1 of this embodiment, the rear speaker 4 is rotatably attached to the tip of the arm 3. This makes it possible to adjust the direction of the sound emitted from the rear speaker 4. This allows the direction of the sound emitted from the rear speaker 4 to be appropriately adjusted according to the position of the user (particularly the position of the user's head and ears) between the two arms 3 arranged in the usage position P2.
[0024] Furthermore, in the speaker-equipped desk 1 of this embodiment, the electrical wiring 7 extending from the rear speaker 4 is inserted inside the arm 3. This makes it possible to suppress or prevent the electrical wiring 7 from becoming entangled or caught on the arm 3 or the user's hands and feet when the arm 3 is moved in or out of the desk 2. This makes it possible to easily move the arm 3 and the rear speaker 4 attached to the arm 3 in and out of the desk 2. Furthermore, since the electrical wiring 7 is not exposed to the outside, the appearance design of the speaker-equipped desk 1 can be improved.
[0025] In the first embodiment, as shown in Figures 5 to 7, for example, the arms 3C and 3D attached to the desk 2 so as to be linearly movable may be extendable and retractable in the longitudinal direction (Y-axis direction) of the arms 3C and 3D. In such a configuration, the arms 3C and 3D are positioned at the use position P2 by extending, and are positioned at the storage position P1 by contracting. The arms 3C and 3D positioned at the storage position P1 can be contracted, so that the arms 3C and 3D can be stored compactly below the tabletop 11.
[0026] 5 and 6 has a plurality of arm elements 31. The arm elements 31 are aligned in the longitudinal direction (Y-axis direction) of the arm 3C when the arm 3C is placed in the use position P2. Adjacent arm elements 31 are movable relative to one another along the longitudinal direction of the arm 3C. By moving the adjacent arm elements 31 relative to one another, the arm 3C can be extended or retracted.
[0027] 7 is configured with a telescopic link mechanism 34 similar to a magic wand, which is configured by connecting a plurality of cross links 33, each of which is formed by connecting two links 32 rotatably with respect to each other at their midpoints. In the arm 3D, the connected links 32 are rotated relative to each other, thereby enabling the arm 3D to be extended or retracted.
[0028] Second Embodiment Next, a second embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 8. In the following description, components common to those already described will be assigned the same reference numerals, and redundant description will be omitted.
[0029] 8, in the speaker-equipped desk 1E of the second embodiment, as in the first embodiment, two arms 3E are movable between a storage position P1 below the top panel 11 and a use position P2 that protrudes from the edge of the top surface 11a of the top panel 11 in a direction along the top surface 11a. When positioned in the use position P2, the two arms 3E are located at both ends of the width of the top panel 11 and extend forward from the front edge of the top surface 11a. Each arm 3E is formed of a single rod-shaped member that extends linearly.
[0030] In the second embodiment, each arm 3E is attached to the desk 2 so as to be rotatable around the base end of the arm 3E, which is located on the desk 2 side when the arm 3E is placed in the use position P2. Specifically, the rotation shaft 35 of each arm 3E, which is located at the base end of the arm 3E, extends in the vertical direction. Therefore, the arm 3E rotates and moves relative to the desk 2 within a plane along the top surface 11a.
[0031] The arm 3E rotates from a use position P2, where its tip is located at the widthwise end of the tabletop 11, to a storage position P1, moving inward of the tabletop 11 in the width direction. This prevents the trajectory of the arm 3E as it rotates between the use position P2 and the storage position P1 from overhanging the outside of the tabletop 11 in the width direction. Note that the arm 3E may, for example, rotate to the storage position P1 so that its tip moves from the use position P2 to the outside of the tabletop 11 in the width direction. The arm 3E positioned at the storage position P1 may extend in the width direction of the tabletop 11, as illustrated in FIG. 8, but the present disclosure is not limited to this example. The arm 3E positioned at the storage position P1 may also extend, for example, in the front-to-rear direction.
[0032] The speaker-equipped desk 1E of the second embodiment achieves the same effects as the first embodiment. Furthermore, in the speaker-equipped desk 1E of the second embodiment, the arm 3E is attached to the desk 2 so as to be rotatable between a storage position P1 and a use position P2. This allows for inexpensive manufacturing with fewer parts than the speaker-equipped desk 1 of the first embodiment, in which the arm 3 moves linearly relative to the desk 2. To explain this point, multiple bearings, rollers, mounting fixtures, etc. are required to linearly move the arm 3. In contrast, only a rotation hinge (rotation shaft 35) is required to rotate the arm 3E. This allows for inexpensive manufacturing of the speaker-equipped desk 1E with fewer parts. Furthermore, because the arm 3E rotates between the storage position P1 and the use position P2, it can be moved more easily with less force than when it moves linearly.
[0033] Furthermore, in the speaker-equipped desk 1E of the second embodiment, the arm 3E arranged at the storage position P1 extends in the width direction of the top panel 11. This allows for a space below the desk 2 (top panel 11) for the feet of a user of the speaker-equipped desk 1E to be secured. In this regard, in the speaker-equipped desk 1 of the first embodiment, the arm 3 arranged at the storage position P1 (below the top panel 11) extends in the front-to-rear direction at both ends of the width direction of the top panel 11. This reduces the space below the top panel 11 for the feet of a user in the width direction of the top panel 11. In contrast, in the speaker-equipped desk 1E of the second embodiment, the arm 3 arranged at the storage position P1 (below the top panel 11) extends in the width direction of the top panel 11. This prevents the space below the top panel 11 for the feet of a user from being narrowed in the width direction of the top panel 11. Therefore, a space can be secured below the desk 2 (top board portion 11) to accommodate the feet of the user of the speaker-equipped desk 1E.
[0034] In the second embodiment, as shown in FIG. 9 , an arm 3F may include multiple arm elements 36 rotatably connected to one another. The multiple arm elements 36 are aligned in the longitudinal direction (Y-axis direction) of the arm 3F when the arm 3F is positioned in the use position P2. Adjacent arm elements 36 are rotatably connected to one another. The rotation axis 37 connecting adjacent arm elements 36 may extend in the same direction as the rotation axis 35 located at the base end of the arm 3F, as illustrated in FIG. 9 , or may extend in a different direction from the rotation axis 35 of the arm 3F. While the speaker-equipped desk 1E illustrated in FIG. 9 includes two arm elements 36, the number of arm elements 36 may be three or more. Because the adjacent arm elements 36 are rotatably connected, the arm 3F can be folded when positioned in the storage position P1. Therefore, the arm 3F can be stored compactly under the tabletop 11.
[0035] In the second embodiment, the direction in which the rotation shafts 35 of the arms 3E and 3F extend may be arbitrary. For example, as shown in Fig. 10, the rotation shaft 35 of the arm 3E may extend in the width direction (X-axis direction). In this case, the arm 3E disposed in the storage position P1 may extend, for example, in a direction along the top panel surface 11a, or may extend in the vertical direction, as shown in Fig. 10. In other words, the arm 3E may extend downward from the top panel portion 11 when disposed in the storage position P1.
[0036] Third Embodiment Next, a third embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 11. In the following description, configurations common to those already described will be assigned the same reference numerals, and duplicated description will be omitted.
[0037] As shown in FIG. 11 , in the speaker-equipped desk of the third embodiment, a rear speaker 4 is provided at the tip of each arm 3H, similar to the first embodiment. However, in the third embodiment, the rear speaker 4 is formed in a cylindrical shape with a hollow interior. The rear speaker 4 is disposed inside the arm 3H. An opening 38 is formed at the tip of the arm 3H to allow sound emitted from the rear speaker 4 to propagate outside the arm 3H. A protective sheet 39, such as a mesh sheet or nonwoven fabric, is provided in the opening 38 to prevent dust from entering the interior of the arm 3H. Note that the protective sheet 39 does not necessarily have to be provided in the opening 38 of the arm 3H. In FIG. 11 , the opening 38 faces toward the inside of the desk 2 in the width direction, similar to the radiating surface 4a of the rear speaker 4 of the first embodiment (see FIG. 1 ).
[0038] The speaker-equipped desk of the third embodiment provides the same effects as those of the first embodiment. Furthermore, in the speaker-equipped desk of the third embodiment, the rear speakers 4 are hidden inside the arms 3H, making the rear speakers 4 appear to be integrated into the arms 3H, thereby improving the appearance design.
[0039] In the third embodiment, the rear speaker 4 may be rotatably attached to the tip of the arm 3H, as in the first embodiment, for example. In this case, the opening 38 of the arm 3H may be oriented not only toward the inside of the desk 2 in the width direction, but also toward the upper or lower side of the arm 3H, or toward the front side of the arm 3H.
[0040] Fourth Embodiment Next, a fourth embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 12. In the following description, configurations common to those already described will be assigned the same reference numerals, and duplicated description will be omitted.
[0041] As shown in FIG. 12 , in the speaker-equipped desk of the fourth embodiment, a rear speaker 4I is provided at the tip of each arm 3I, similar to the first embodiment. However, in the fourth embodiment, the rear speaker 4I has a box body 41 and a sound emitting section 42. The sound emitting section 42 is attached to the box body 41 and radiates sound to the outside and inside of the box body 41. This structure of the rear speaker 4I may also be applied to the rear speakers 4 of the first to third embodiments. The arm 3I is formed in a cylindrical shape with an internal cavity. The cavity of the arm 3I is in communication with the internal space of the box body 41 of the rear speaker 4I. In FIG. 12 , the arm 3I is formed integrally with the box body 41 of the rear speaker 4I.
[0042] The desk with speakers of the fourth embodiment achieves the same effects as the first embodiment. Furthermore, in the desk with speakers of the fourth embodiment, the cavity of the arm 3I communicates with the internal space of the box 41 of the rear speaker 4I. This allows the arm 3I to be used as a port (enclosure) for the rear speaker 4I. This effectively increases the volume of the box 41 of the rear speaker 4I. Therefore, it becomes possible to radiate sound with acoustic characteristics that enhance the bass range from the rear speaker 4I.
[0043] In the fourth embodiment, for example, the arm 3I and the box 41 of the rear speaker 4I may be formed separately, and then the arm 3I and the box 41 may be connected so that the cavity of the arm 3I communicates with the internal space of the box 41. In this case, the rear speaker 4I (particularly the box 41) may be rotatably attached to the arm 3I, similar to the first embodiment, for example.
[0044] Fifth Embodiment Next, a fifth embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Fig. 13. In the following description, configurations common to those already described will be assigned the same reference numerals, and duplicated description will be omitted.
[0045] In the speaker-equipped desk 1G of the fifth embodiment, the arm 3G (speaker-equipped arm, speaker) can be attached to and detached from the top board (desk) 11. Although only one arm 3G is shown in the example of Fig. 13, the number of arms 3G is not limited to one. The number of arms 3G may be two or more.
[0046] The arm 3G includes a plurality of arm elements rotatably connected to each other, i.e., arm elements 36a and 36b. The arm elements 36a and 36b are connected to each other by a rotation shaft 60. The arm elements 36a and 36b are rotatable relative to each other around the rotation shaft 60. The arm 3G further includes a rear speaker (speaker) 4 fixed to the arm element 36b.
[0047] The arm 3G further includes a U-shaped mounting portion 50 for removably mounting the arm 3G to the tabletop 11. The mounting portion 50 and the arm element 36a are connected to each other by a rotation axis 61. The rotation axis 61 is perpendicular to the rotation axis 60. The arm 3G is mounted to the tabletop 11 by pushing the mounting portion 50 into the tabletop 11. More specifically, the tabletop 11 is inserted into an internal space formed by the U-shaped mounting portion 50. The arm 3G is detached from the tabletop 11 by pulling the mounting portion 50 out from the tabletop 11.
[0048] When the arm 3G (arm elements 36a, 36b) is positioned at the use position P2, the arm elements 36a and 36b are rotatable relative to each other about a rotation axis 60 extending in the vertical direction (Z-axis direction). Also, when the arm 3G (arm elements 36a and 36b) is positioned at the use position P2, the arm element 36a is rotatable relative to the mounting part 50 about a rotation axis 61 extending in the width direction of the desk 2 (X-axis direction).
[0049] When the mounting portion 50 is attached to the top panel 11 and the arm 3G (arm elements 36a, 36b) is located in the storage position P1, the entire arm elements 36a, 36b are located below the top panel 11. When the mounting portion 50 is attached to the top panel 11 and the arm 3G (arm elements 36a, 36b) is located in the use position P2, the arm elements 36a, 36b protrude from the edge of the top panel surface 11a when viewed in a direction perpendicular to the top panel surface 11a of the top panel 11 (the Z-axis direction).
[0050] The desk with speakers of the fifth embodiment has the same effects as those of the first embodiment. In addition, since the arm 3G can be attached to and detached from the desk, it can be applied to a general desk that does not have a rear speaker pre-installed.
[0051] In the fifth embodiment of the present disclosure, the configuration of the attachment portion is not limited to the example shown in FIG. 13 . For example, as shown in FIG. 14 , the arm 3G may include a clip-shaped attachment portion 51 instead of the attachment portion 50. The attachment portion 51 includes a pair of clamping portions 51A, 51B and a spring 51C. The clamping portions 51A, 51B are rotatably connected to each other by a rotation shaft 63. The clamping portions 51A, 51B are also connected to each other by the spring 51C. The attachment portion 51 is attached to the top plate 11 by inserting the top plate 11 into the internal space formed by the clamping portions 51A, 51B. The pair of clamping portions 51A, 51B move closer to each other due to the force of the spring 51C, thereby fixing the attachment portion 53 to the top plate 11.
