AI Technical Summary
The existing methods for connecting connectors to electric wires in vehicles are inefficient due to the tendency of mating terminals to detach from bus bars when the electric wire returns to its straight state, leading to poor workability and the need for cumbersome bolt-fastening processes.
A wire harness with a connector system that includes a housing with plate-shaped terminals, nuts sandwiched between the terminals and the housing, and plate-shaped mating terminals stacked and bolted to the terminals, featuring second wall portions that temporarily fix the mating terminals to the housing, improving the workability of bolt fastening.
This configuration allows for improved workability by temporarily fixing the mating terminals, preventing detachment during bolt fastening and enhancing insulation distance between adjacent terminals.
Abstract
Description
Wire harness with connector and connector
[0001] The present invention relates to a connector-equipped wire harness and a connector.
[0002] Conventionally, when connecting a connector used in a vehicle to an electric wire, a plurality of bus bars (terminals) housed in a housing and a plurality of mating terminals connected to one end of the electric wire are each fastened with a bolt (see Patent Document 1).
[0003] However, the electric wires may be connected between the connector and another product in a bent state. Therefore, simply placing a mating terminal on the bus bar can cause the wires to return to their straight state, resulting in the mating terminal coming off the bus bar. In this case, it is necessary to first connect the other ends of the multiple electric wires to the other product, then find the electric wire that connects to a specific bus bar from among the multiple electric wires, guide one end of the wire to the specific bus bar, and then bolt the bus bar to the mating terminal connected to one end of the electric wire, which is inefficient.

Furthermore, the second connection portion 63 of the right-side male terminal 6 is positioned rearward and lower than the second connection portion 63 of the left-side male terminal 6. In other words, the second connection portions 63 of the pair of male terminals 6 are positioned side by side in the front-to-rear and up-to-down directions. The second connection portion 63 is provided with a bolt-through hole 65 for passing a bolt 9 therethrough.
[0019] The housing 7 is made of resin. As shown in Figure 3, the housing 7 has an air portion 71 that extends vertically and an oil portion 72 that extends rearward from the lower end of the air portion 71. The air portion 71 houses the first connecting portion 61 and the second portion 64 of the male terminal 6. The air portion 71 is shaped like a cylinder with a bottom that opens upward, and a filler is injected into the bottom to ensure a watertight seal between the air portion 71 and the oil portion 72 within the housing 7.
[0020] The oil-immersed portion 72 has an O-ring groove 73 on its front outer surface for accommodating an O-ring 8. The oil-immersed portion 72 also has an accommodating hole 74 for accommodating the first portion 62 of the male terminal 6. As shown in Figures 1, 3, and 5, the oil-immersed portion 72 further has a rear end portion 75 serving as a bottom, a first wall portion 76, a pair of second wall portions 771, 772, a pair of third wall portions 781, 782, and a pair of fourth wall portions 791, 792.
[0021] As shown in FIG. 1 , a pair of nuts 5, 5 are mounted on the rear end portion 75. The first wall portion 76 stands rearward from the rear end portion 75 and extends in the left-right direction. As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 , the first wall portion 76 is disposed between two LA terminals 3 adjacent in the vertical direction, insulating the two LA terminals 3, 3. The second wall portions 771 stand downward and upward from the first wall portion 76 and cover the lower LA terminal 3. The second wall portion 772 stands upward from the first wall portion 76 and covers the upper LA terminal 3.
[0022] The third wall portion 781 stands rearward from the rear end portion 75, and accommodates the nut 5 arranged below the first wall portion 76 between the third wall portion 781 and the first wall portion 76. The third wall portion 782 stands rearward from the rear end portion 75, and accommodates the nut 5 arranged above the first wall portion 76 between the third wall portion 781 and the first wall portion 76.
[0023] 3 , the fourth wall portion 791 extends rearward from the rear end portion 75 and connects the lower third wall portion 781 and the first wall portion 76. The fourth wall portion 792 extends rearward from the rear end portion 75 and connects the upper third wall portion 782 and the first wall portion 76. The fourth wall portion 792 is located to the left of the fourth wall portion 791. The accommodating hole 74 for accommodating the left male terminal 6 is provided in communication with the left fourth wall portion 792. The accommodating hole 74 for accommodating the right male terminal 6 is provided in communication with the right fourth wall portion 791.
[0024] The rear end portion 75 of the oil-immersed portion 72, the central first wall portion 76, the left fourth wall portion 792, and the upper third wall portion 782 define a nut accommodating groove for accommodating the nut 5 to be connected to the left male terminal 6. This nut accommodating groove extends in the left-right direction, and an insertion opening for inserting the nut 5 is provided on the right side.
[0025] Furthermore, a nut accommodating groove for accommodating the nut 5 to be connected to the right-side male terminal 6 is provided by the rear end portion 75 of the oil-immersed portion 72, the central first wall portion 76, the right-side fourth wall portion 791, and the lower third wall portion 781. This nut accommodating groove extends in the left-right direction, and an insertion opening for inserting the nut 5 is provided on the left side.
[0026] 1 , the rear end of the first portion 62 and the second connecting portion 63 of the male terminal 6 protrude from the receiving hole 74 to the outside of the housing 7. The second connecting portion 63 is bent from the rear end of the first portion 62 toward the insertion opening of the nut receiving groove. The second connecting portion 63 is disposed with a gap between it and the rear end portion 75 in the front-to-rear direction. When the nut 5 is received between the second connecting portion 63 and the rear end portion 75, the nut 5 is sandwiched between the second connecting portion 63 and the housing 7.
[0027] 2, the LA terminal 3 has a terminal connection portion 31 connected to the male terminal 6 and an electric wire connection portion 32 connected to the electric wire 4, which are arranged in a left-right direction. The terminal connection portion 31 is formed in a plate shape and has a bolt through-hole 33 through which a bolt 9 passing through in the front-rear direction is inserted. In this embodiment, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the LA terminal 3 is fastened to the male terminal 6 of the connector 2 with a bolt so that the lead-out direction of the two electric wires 4 is on the left side.
[0028] Next, a more detailed description will be given of the configuration of the housing 7. As shown in Figures 6 and 7, the rear end portion 75 is provided such that the lower side of the first wall portion 76 protrudes further rearward than the upper side of the first wall portion 76. The second wall portion 771 extending downward from the first wall portion 76 is provided rearward than the second wall portion 772 extending upward from the first wall portion 76.
[0029] 4 and 5, the second wall portion 771 extends upward and downward from the first wall portion 76, covering the lower LA terminal 3. The second wall portion 771 extends upward from the left end of the first wall portion 76, covering the wire 4 side of the portion where the bolt 9 of the lower LA terminal 3 overlaps. This prevents the second wall portion 771 from interfering with the bolt tightening operation. The lower end of the second wall portion 771 is not connected to the third wall portion 781, but is separated therefrom.
[0030] The second wall portion 772 described above stands upward from the first wall portion 76 and covers the upper LA terminal 3. The upper end of the second wall portion 772 is connected to the left end of the third wall portion 782. The second wall portion 772 is also provided to cover the wire 4 side of the portion of the upper LA terminal 3 where the bolt 9 overlaps. This prevents the second wall portion 772 from interfering with the bolt tightening operation. Also, as shown in FIG. 8 , the first wall portion 76 has a notch 761 at its left end. The notch 761 is provided at the rear end portion 75 between the lower side of the first wall portion 76 and the second wall portion 771.
[0031] Next, as shown in Fig. 3, a procedure for connecting the connector 2 arranged on the upper side to the other product 100 arranged on the lower side with an electric wire 4 will be described. As shown in the figure, LA terminals 3 are connected to both ends of the electric wire 4. The LA terminal 3 connected to one end of the electric wire 4 is fastened to the male terminal 6 of the connector 2 with a bolt, and the LA terminal 3 connected to the other end of the electric wire 4 is fastened to the other product 100 with a bolt. The electric wire 4 connected to the lower male terminal 6 is bent from the electric wire 4 connected to the upper male terminal 6.
[0032] First, with the wire 4 facing left, the LA terminal 3 is placed between the second wall 771 and the third wall 781 and overlapped with the lower male terminal 6 of the connector 2. Next, the LA terminal 3 connected to the other end of the wire 4 is bent toward the right, placed on a side surface of the other product 100 that is perpendicular to the up-down direction, and bolted together. The LA terminal 3 on the other product 100 side is fastened forward of the LA terminal 3 on the connector 2 side. Therefore, the force of the wire 4 trying to straighten causes the LA terminal 3 on the connector 2 side to move upward and rearward, but it is held down by the first wall 76 and the second wall 771, allowing the LA terminal 3 to be temporarily fixed to the connector 2.
[0033] Furthermore, with the electric wire 4 facing left, the LA terminal 3 is passed through the rear end 75 of the second wall 772 and placed over the upper male terminal 6 of the connector 2. Next, the LA terminal 3 connected to the other end of the electric wire 4 is bent toward the right, placed over the side surface of the other product 100, and bolted. The LA terminal 3 on the other product 100 side is bolted forward of the LA terminal 3 on the connector 2 side. Therefore, due to the force of the electric wire 4 trying to straighten, the LA terminal 3 on the connector 2 side moves upward and rearward, but is pressed down by the third wall 782 and the second wall 772, allowing the LA terminal 3 to be temporarily fixed to the connector 2. Therefore, after the LA terminal 3 is bolted to the other product 100, it is not necessary to search for the electric wire 4 to be connected to the upper and lower male terminals 6 of the two electric wires 4; simply bolting the temporarily fixed LA terminal 3 improves the efficiency of the fastening process.
[0034] According to the above-described embodiment, the housing 7 has a pair of second walls 771, 772 that extend vertically from the first wall 76 and cover adjacent LA terminals 3. As a result, even if the wire 4 is bent and the LA terminal 3 moves in a direction away from the rear end 75 (rearward), the LA terminal 3 is pressed down by the second walls 771, 772, allowing the LA terminal 3 to be temporarily fixed to the housing 7, improving the workability of fastening the male terminal 6 and the LA terminal 3 with bolts. Furthermore, the second walls 771, 772 serve as partitions between adjacent LA terminals 3, 3, increasing the insulation distance.
[0035] According to the embodiment described above, the lower end of the second wall portion 771 is spaced apart from the third wall portion 781. This allows the wire 4 to be placed on the male terminal 6 between the tip of the second wall portion 771 and the third wall portion 781 without passing the wire 4 through the rear end portion 75 of the second wall portion 771, thereby improving ease of handling.
[0036] According to the embodiment described above, the upper end of the second wall portion 772 is provided so as to be connected to the third wall portion 782. This further prevents the LA terminal 3 connected to the electric wire 4 from coming off from the temporary fixation.
[0037] According to the above-described embodiment, the first wall portion 76 is provided with the notch 761 at the end in the drawing direction of the electric wire 4. This allows the electric wire 4 to be inserted into the notch 761, as shown in Fig. 4 , and the bending radius of the electric wire 4 can be increased.
[0038] According to the embodiment described above, the rear end portion 75 is provided such that the lower side of the first wall portion 76 protrudes further rearward than the upper side of the first wall portion 76, and the notch 761 is provided at the rear end portion 75 between the lower side of the first wall portion and the second wall portion 771. As a result, the positions of adjacent LA terminals 3 in the front-to-rear direction are different, so even if the lower LA terminal 3 is inserted into the notch 761, insulation between the adjacent LA terminals 3 can be ensured.
[0039] According to the embodiment described above, the second wall portion 771 is provided on both the upper and lower sides of the first wall portion 76. This makes it possible to prevent the LA terminal 3 inserted into the notch 761 from coming off from the temporary fixation.
[0040] The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and can be appropriately modified, improved, etc. Furthermore, the material, shape, size, number, location, etc. of each component in the above-described embodiments are arbitrary and not limited as long as they can achieve the present invention.
[0041] According to the embodiment described above, the tip of the second wall portion 771 is provided apart from the third wall portion 781, but this is not limitative. The tip of the second wall portion 771 may be provided so as to be connected to the third wall portion 781.
[0042] According to the embodiment described above, the second wall portion 772 is provided so as to be connected to the third wall portion 782, but this is not limitative. The second wall portion 772 may be provided apart from the third wall portion 782.
[0043] Furthermore, it is not essential to provide the notch 761 in the first wall portion 76, and it may be omitted.
[0044] Furthermore, in the embodiment described above, the lower side of the first wall portion 76 of the rear end portion 75 protrudes further rearward than the upper side of the first wall portion 76, but this is not limited to this. The rear end portion 75 may also be provided flat.
