Abstract

A hair covering for covering the hair of an individual to protect it or ornament it includes a head section which comprises a flexible fabric material and has a generally tubular shape. The head section has a front rim which defines a front opening and is sized and shaped to circumferentially surround the head of the individual. A pair of sleeves comprising the flexible fabric material is coupled to and extends rearwardly from the head section. The sleeves are laterally spaced apart from each other with respect to the head section. Each sleeve of the pair of sleeves defines a sleeve slit which extends therethrough into an interior space of the sleeve. The sleeve slit of each sleeve extends from a distal end of the sleeve with respect to the head section toward the head section.

Head coverings of the prior art include those which have a long sleeve or tail section such that someone with long hair might cover all of their hair without securing the hair close to their head. U.S. Pat. No. 9,138,025 discloses such a hair covering, including embodiments in which multiple tail portions are included such that the hair may be divided between multiple sections. However, the prior art fails to describe such an apparatus in which a rearward sleeve or tail portion includes closable slits which facilitate positioning of the user's hair.BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008] An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a head section which comprises a flexible fabric material and has a generally tubular shape. The head section has a front rim which defines a front opening and is sized and shaped to circumferentially surround a head of a user. A pair of sleeves comprising the flexible fabric material is coupled to and extends rearwardly from the head section. The sleeves are laterally spaced apart from each other with respect to the head section. Each sleeve of the pair of sleeves defines a sleeve slit which extends therethrough into an interior space of the sleeve. The sleeve slit of each sleeve extends from a distal end of the sleeve with respect to the head section toward the head section.

[0019] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new hair covering embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0020] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the hair covering 10 generally comprises a head section 12 which comprises a flexible fabric material and has a generally tubular shape. The head section 12 has a front rim 14 which defines a front opening 16 and is sized and shaped to circumferentially surround a head 42 of a user 40. A pair of sleeves 18 comprising the flexible fabric material is coupled to the head section 12. Each sleeve 18 extends rearwardly from the head section 12 to a distal end 20 with respect to the head section 12. The sleeves 18 are laterally spaced apart from each other with respect to the head section 12.

[0021] Each sleeve 18 defines a sleeve slit 22 which extends therethrough into an interior space of the sleeve 18. The sleeve slit 22 of each sleeve 18 extends from the head section 12 to the distal end 20 of the sleeve 18. The sleeve slits 22 of the sleeves 18 face each other across a gap between the sleeves 18. Each sleeve 18 also defines a rear opening 24 at the distal end 20 of the sleeve 18. It is understood that in some embodiments the sleeves 18 may be closed at their distal ends 20. A pair of sleeve closures 26 is provided for selectively closing the sleeve slits 22. Each sleeve closure 26 comprises a zipper 27 but may comprise a hook-and-loop fastener, snap buttons, or other suitable fastener.

[0022] A resiliently stretchable member 28 such as an elastic band or the like is coupled to the head section 12 and is positioned along the front rim 14. The resiliently stretchable member 28 constricts when released from a stretched configuration to cinch around and retain the hair covering 10 to the user's 40 head 42. The resiliently stretchable member 28 may comprise rubber, nylon, or any other suitably stretchable material.

[0023] The head section 12 defines a front slit 32 in the front rim 14 to facilitate widening the front opening 16. The front slit 32 also separates two ends 30 of the resiliently stretchable member 28. A front closure 34 is coupled to the head section 12 and is configured to selectively close the front slit 32. The front closure 34 comprises a zipper 36 which extends from a crotch of the front slit 32 toward the front rim 14 and a hook-and-eyelet closure 38 at the front rim 14. Other fastening means may be used for the front closure 34, including hook-and-loop fasteners, snap buttons, laced tie strings, or any other suitable fastener.

[0024] In use, the user 40 may don the hair covering 10 to cover long hair and separate it into the different sleeves 18. The hair may be covered with the hair covering 10 to protect the hair, thereby avoiding the hair being messed or bothered by various hazards when the hair is placed in a desired style, when the hair is undergoing a conditioning treatment, or the like. The hair also may be covered to obscure the unsightly appearance of the hair or for aesthetic purposes.

[0025] To don the hair covering 10, the user 40 may insert the user's 40 hair 44 and head 42 through the front opening 16, opening the front closure 34 if necessary. The front closure 34 is closed, and the resiliently stretchable member 28 constricts against the user's 40 head 42 to maintain the hair covering 10 on the user's 40 head 42. The user 40 or another may gather the user's 40 hair 44 into a pair of groupings 46, and each grouping 46 may be pulled through a respective one of the sleeves 18. The sleeve closures 26 may be opened to facilitate the user 40 or another in reaching into the sleeve 18 to gather the respective grouping 46 of hair 44 and pull it into the respective sleeve 18. When the grouping 46 of hair 44 extends through the respective sleeve 18, the sleeve closure 26 of the respective sleeve 18 may be closed to secure the grouping 46 of hair 44 therein.

[0019] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new hair covering embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0020] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the hair covering 10 generally comprises a head section 12 which comprises a flexible fabric material and has a generally tubular shape. The head section 12 has a front rim 14 which defines a front opening 16 and is sized and shaped to circumferentially surround a head 42 of a user 40. A pair of sleeves 18 comprising the flexible fabric material is coupled to the head section 12. Each sleeve 18 extends rearwardly from the head section 12 to a distal end 20 with respect to the head section 12. Claims

1. A hair covering comprising:a head section comprising a flexible fabric material and having a generally tubular shape, the head section having a front rim which defines a front opening, the front rim being sized and shaped to circumferentially surround a head of a user; anda pair of sleeves comprising the flexible fabric material, each sleeve being coupled to and extending rearwardly from the head section, the sleeves being laterally spaced apart from each other with respect to the head section, each sleeve of the pair of sleeves defining a sleeve slit which extends therethrough into an interior space of the sleeve, the sleeve slit of each sleeve extending from a distal end of the sleeve with respect to the head section toward the head section.

2. The hair covering of claim 1, wherein the sleeve slits of the sleeves face each other across a gap between the sleeves.

3. The hair covering of claim 1, wherein each sleeve defines a rear opening at the distal end of the sleeve.

4. The hair covering of claim 1, further comprising a pair of sleeve closures, each sleeve closure of the pair of sleeve closures being coupled to an associated sleeve of the pair of sleeves, each sleeve closure being configured to selectively close the sleeve slit of the associated sleeve.

5. The hair covering of claim 1, further comprising a resiliently stretchable member coupled to the head section and positioned along the front rim.

6. The hair covering of claim 1, wherein the head section defines a front slit in the front rim to facilitate widening the front opening.

7. The hair covering of claim 1, further comprising a front closure coupled to the head section, the front closure being configured to selectively close the front slit.

A hair covering comprising:a head section comprising a flexible fabric material and having a generally tubular shape, the head section having a front rim which defines a front opening, the front rim being sized and shaped to circumferentially surround a head of a user, the head section defining a front slit in the front rim to facilitate widening the front opening;a pair of sleeves comprising the flexible fabric material, each sleeve being coupled to and extending rearwardly from the head section, the sleeves being laterally spaced apart from each other with respect to the head section, each sleeve of the pair of sleeves defining a sleeve slit which extends therethrough into an interior space of the sleeve, the sleeve slit of each sleeve extending from the head section to a distal end of the sleeve with respect to the head section, the sleeve slits of the sleeves facing each other across a gap between the sleeves, each sleeve defining a rear opening at the distal end of the sleeve;a pair of sleeve closures, each sleeve closure of the pair of sleeve closures being coupled to an associated sleeve of the pair of sleeves, each sleeve closure being configured to selectively close the sleeve slit of the associated sleeve;a resiliently stretchable member coupled to the head section and positioned along the front rim; anda front closure coupled to the head section, the front closure being configured to selectively close the front slit.
