Description

[0001] A RECIPROCATING PUMP TO AMPLIFY DISCHARGE PRESSURE GRADIENT OF A LIQUID AND A METHOD THEREOF

[0002] EARLIEST PRIORITY DATE

[0003] This Application claims priority from a Complete patent application filed in India having Patent Application No. 202321043132, filed on June 27, 2023, and titled “A RECIPROCATING PUMP TO AMPLIFY DISCHARGE PRESSURE GRADIENT OF A LIQUID AND A METHOD THEREOF”

[0004] FIELD OF INVENTION

[0005] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a field of pumps and more particularly to a reciprocating pump to amplify discharge pressure gradient of a liquid and a method thereof.

[0006] BACKGROUND

[0007] A reciprocating pump transfers liquid by a reciprocating motion. The reciprocating pump includes a cylinder, a piston, a suction valve, and a discharge valve. Operation of the reciprocating pump begins with a suction stroke in which the piston moves away from a head of the cylinder, thereby creating a vacuum in the cylinder. The vacuum allows the liquid to enter the cylinder through the suction valve.

[0008] During a compression stroke, the piston moves towards the head of the cylinder, thereby compressing the liquid and increasing pressure of the liquid. As a result, the liquid which gets compressed is forced out through the discharge valve to a discharge line. Significant work needs to be done by the piston to compress the liquid in the reciprocating pump, thereby making the reciprocating pump energy intensive. A low discharge pressure gradient of the liquid is another point of concern.

[0009] Hence, there is a need for an improved reciprocating pump to amplify discharge pressure gradient of a liquid and a method thereof to address the aforementioned issue(s). OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION

[0010] An objective of the invention includes providing a reciprocating pump to amplify discharge pressure gradient of a liquid by compressing the liquid upon adding a charging liquid.

[0011] BRIEF DESCRIPTION

[0012] In accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure, a reciprocating pump to amplify discharge pressure gradient of a liquid is provided. The reciprocating pump includes a piston positioned in a cylinder. The piston is adapted to draw the liquid from a first reservoir to the cylinder through a first valve by moving from a top dead center of the cylinder to a bottom dead center of the cylinder. The liquid is placed at a first pressure inside the first reservoir and the cylinder. The piston is also adapted to draw a charging liquid from a second reservoir through a second valve upon closing the first valve to change a pressure of the liquid from the first pressure to a second pressure. The charging liquid is stored in the second reservoir at the second pressure. The second valve and the first valve are adapted to open and close respectively before the piston reaches the bottom dead center of the cylinder. The second valve and the first valve are adapted to open and close simultaneously. The piston is further adapted to compress the liquid to change the pressure of the liquid from the second pressure to a third pressure by moving from the bottom dead center of the cylinder to the top dead center of the cylinder. The reciprocating pump also includes a third valve positioned at the top dead center of the cylinder. The third valve is adapted to discharge the liquid to an outlet upon changing the pressure of the liquid from the second pressure to the third pressure, thereby amplifying the discharge pressure gradient of the liquid.

[0013] In accordance with another embodiment of the present disclosure, a method to amplify discharge pressure gradient of a liquid and a method thereof is provided. The method includes drawing, by a piston positioned in a cylinder, the liquid from a first reservoir to the cylinder through a first valve by moving from a top dead center of the cylinder to a bottom dead center of the cylinder. The liquid is placed at a first pressure inside the first reservoir and the cylinder. The method also includes drawing, by the piston, a charging liquid from a second a reservoir through a second valve upon closing the first valve to change a pressure of the liquid from the first pressure to a second pressure. The charging liquid is stored in the second reservoir at the second pressure. The second valve and the first valve are adapted to open and close respectively before the piston reaches the bottom dead center of the cylinder. The second valve and the first valve are adapted to open and close simultaneously. The method further includes compressing, by the piston, the liquid to change the pressure of the liquid from the second pressure to a third pressure by moving from the bottom dead center of the cylinder to the top dead center of the cylinder. The method also includes discharging, by a third valve, the liquid to an outlet upon changing the pressure of the liquid from the second pressure to the third pressure, thereby amplifying the discharge pressure gradient of the liquid.

5. The reciprocating pump (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first valve (60) and the second valve (110) are adapted to remain closed when the piston (30) is moving from the bottom dead center (80) of the cylinder (40) to the top dead center (70) of the cylinder (40).

6. The reciprocating pump (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the liquid (20) and the charging liquid (90) are incompressible.

7. The reciprocating pump (10) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first pressure is adapted to remain below the second pressure, wherein the second pressure is adapted to remain below the third pressure;8. The reciprocating pump (10) as claimed in claiml, wherein the liquid (20), and the charging liquid (90) comprises similar chemical and physical properties.

9. The reciprocating pump (10) as claimed in claiml, wherein the liquid (20), and the charging liquid (90) comprises dissimilar chemical and physical properties.

10. A method (300) to amplify discharge pressure gradient of a liquid comprising:drawing, by a piston positioned in a cylinder, the liquid from a first reservoir to the cylinder through a first valve by moving from a top dead center of the cylinder to a bottom dead center of the cylinder; wherein the liquid is placed at a first pressure inside the first reservoir and the cylinder; (310) characterized in that: drawing, by the piston, a charging liquid from a second a reservoir through a second valve upon closing the first valve to change a pressure of the liquid from the first pressure to a second pressure, wherein the charging liquid is stored in the second reservoir at the second pressure; wherein the second valve and the first valve are adapted to open and close respectively before the piston reaches the bottom dead center of the cylinder, wherein the second valve and the first valve are adapted to open and close simultaneously; (320) compressing, by the piston, the liquid to change the pressure of the liquid from the second pressure to a third pressure by moving from the bottom dead center of the cylinder to the top dead center of the cylinder; (330) and discharging, by a third valve, the liquid to an outlet upon changing the pressure of the liquid from the second pressure to the third pressure, thereby amplifying the discharge pressure gradient of the liquid.
