[0032] Large-volume package containers for packaging flowable materials are often equipped with reusable caps for convenience of repeated opening and closing so that the content of the package container can be sealed between openings. For example, when the content is a liquid material such as milk, juice, and yogurt, or a solid flowable material such as dry milk and solid beverage, the package container can be mounted with a fluid guiding component that allows the flowable material to flow out easily and a cap that cooperates with the fluid guiding component, so that the container can be sealed with the cap after some flowable material has been poured out. Such cap can be attached to a body of the package container in a variety of ways, e.g., by bonding or welding to the inner or outer surfaces of the package container.
[0033] Currently, a package container for packaging juice, milk or other types of non-alcoholic beverages can comprise a composite carton package container, which can comprise a cap mounted in different ways, e.g., by bonding or ultrasonic welding. Conventional caps for the package container usually comprise one-off sealing caps and resealable caps with resealable mechanism. Examples of such resealable mechanism comprise a sealing piece with pull ring required to be manually opened, and a sealing piece cuttable with opening mechanism pre-set in the cap, etc.
[0034] In general, the inner layer of common composite carton package containers is often made from LDPE, while the cap of the package container is typically made from HDPE or LDPE. When the cap is made from HDPE, the cap and the inner layer of the package container are often different to weld in ultrasonic welding due to the difference in melting point and crystallinity between the HDPE cap and the LDPE the inner layer. Moreover, the cap made from HDPE is likely to crack or even break due to the ultrasonic vibration during ultrasonic welding. When the cap is made from LDPE, the resultant cap has relatively low hardness and relatively high material ductility. Thus, in the case of a resealable cap with sealing piece and self-opening mechanism, the LDPE material is too soft to cut.
[0035] To solve the above and other problems, the inventor notices that HDPE incorporated with a suitable amount of LDPE and / or LLDPE can be used as the composite material for forming at least a part of the cap. By adding some LDPE and / or LLDPE into the composite material, it improves the compatibility and bonding capacity between the cap and the innermost LDPE of the package container during the ultrasonic welding; improves the structural stability of the cap during the ultrasonic welding so that the cap is unlikely to crack or break; improves the cutting property of the sealing piece in the resealable mechanism of the cap; and ensures that the sealing piece can retain attached to the cap after cutting, instead of falling into the interior of the package container to contaminate the package contents.
[0036] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a cap assembly, a package container, and a method for manufacturing a package container, wherein at least the shoulder of the cap assembly is formed with a composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE to improve the compatibility and bonding capacity of the cap assembly with the innermost layer of the package container, so that the cap assembly can be safely and firmly mounted on the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding, thereby effectively sealing the package container and avoiding any accidental damage of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding.
[0037] The cap assembly provided in the embodiment of the present disclosure comprises: a fluid guiding component which comprises a tube and a shoulder attached to and surrounding the tube, and a cap which releasably covers the tube and seals a cover end of the tube; wherein at least the shoulder of the fluid guiding component is made from a composite material comprising high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and a material selected from the group consisting of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) , linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) , and a mixture thereof, wherein the composite material has a density in a range of 930 –950 kg / m3.
[0038] Hereinafter the present disclosure will be described with reference to specific embodiments. To make the following description of the embodiments of the present disclosure clear and concise, detailed descriptions of known functions and components may be omitted. When any component of embodiments of the present disclosure appears in more than one drawing, the component can be designated by the same reference sign in each drawing.
[0039] FIG. 1 shows a structural schematic view of a cap assembly provided in an embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 1, the cap assembly 1 comprises a cap 11 and a fluid guiding component 100 which comprises a tube 12 and a shoulder 13 attached to and surrounding the tube 12. Among them, the entire fluid guiding component 100 is made from a composite material comprising HDPE and a material selected from the group consisting of LDPE, LLDPE, and a mixture thereof, wherein the composite material has a density in a range of 930 –950 kg / m3.
[0040] It is well established that polyethylene (PE) is a polymeric material formed by the polymerization of ethylene monomers, which is one of the most common synthetic resins in the world, and is widely used in the fields including industry, agriculture, medicine, health, food, daily necessities and so on. PE mainly comprises HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, and the like. Various PE materials are non-toxic, tasteless, and odorless, have good insulating, moisture-proofing and seepage-proofing properties, and are widely used in all walks of life.
[0041] As used herein, the term “High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) ” , also called low-pressure polyethylene, refers to a polymerization product of ethylene monomers catalyzed by Ziegler catalysts under low pressure condition, which has a density in a range of 941-965 kg / m3. HDPE has high crystallinity (65-85%) and softening point (125-135℃) , good mechanical properties such as high strength, high toughness, and high rigidity, and good non-hygroscopicity, water vapor-proofing property, chemical resistance, and weather resistance.
[0042] As used herein, the term “Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) ” , also known as high pressure polyethylene, refers to a thermoplastic product formed by free radical polymerization of ethylene monomer under high pressure condition using oxygen or organic peroxide as catalyst, which has a density in a range 910-940 kg / m3. LDPE is chemically inert, has good sealing capacity, and is easy to mold and process. It is one of the most widely used materials in the current polymer industry, especially in the food industrial packaging. Unlike the linear structure of other PE materials such as HDPE and LLDPE, the LDPE made under high pressure has a branched structure and long branched chains. Such structure also gives conventional LDPE flexible and easy-to-extrude properties.
[0043] As used herein, the term “Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) ” refers to a copolymer formed by the copolymerization of ethylene with a small number of higher alpha-olefins (e.g., butene-1, hexene-1, octene-1, tetramethyl Pentene-1, or the like) at lower temperature and pressure under the action of catalyst, which has very short comonomer chains branched from the linear ethylene backbone. It is non-toxic, tasteless, and odorless, and has a density in a range of 915-935 kg / m3. The LLDPE formed by copolymerization has a narrower distribution of molecular weight than that of common LDPE, has different rheological property due to its linear structure, and has enhanced tensile resistance, penetration resistance, impact resistance, and resistance to environmental stress cracking, etc.
[0044] In view of the respective advantages and disadvantages of HDPE, LDPE and LLDPE, the inventor conducts intensive research and extensive efforts, and develops a composite material for forming at least a part of the cap with good comprehensive performance by adding some LDPE and / or LLDPE to HDPE. In some examples, based on the total weight of the composite material, the HDPE can be present in an amount from 40 wt%to 99 wt%, e.g., from 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 65 wt%, 70 wt%, 75 wt%, to 80 wt%, 85 wt%, 90 wt%, 95 wt%, 97 wt%, 98 wt%, or 99 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints, and the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be present in an amount from 1 wt%to 60 wt%, e.g., from 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt%, 20 wt%to 25 wt%, 30 wt%, 35 wt%, 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 60 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints. In further examples, the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be all LLDPE or all LDPE; alternatively, the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be any mixture of the two. The composite material comprising the mixture of HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE in the above range have good comprehensive performance. For example, the addition of the LDPE and / or LLDPE can allow the cap formed from the composite material to better bond to the innermost LDPE layer of the package container, and prevent the cap formed from the composite material from cracking or even breaking due to vibration during the ultrasonic welding.
[0045] As used herein, the term “ultrasonic welding (UW) ” refers to a welding method in which ultrasonic energy is transmitted to the welding site via a welding tool (such as, a welding head) so that a friction heat is generated between two surface to be welded under proper pressure to produce an instant fusion, and the so-produced welding strength can be comparable with that of the body. Using a suitable workpiece and reasonable interface design, the ultrasonic welding can make the welded part achieve watertight and airtight bonding strength, and eliminate the inconvenience caused by using auxiliary products, achieving efficient and clean welding. During the ultrasonic welding, the non-welded parts of the welded workpiece may crack or break due to the injection of ultrasonic energy for welding. Therefore, the members to be welded need to be formed from materials with appropriate composition. In the development of the cap assembly of embodiments of the present disclosure, the inventor utilizes a blend / composite material formed by compounding HDPE with LDPE and / or LLDPE to form at least a part of the cap assembly described in the embodiments of the present disclosure, and founds that the cap assembly prepared from such blend / composite material has good strength and toughness and anti-cracking property, and can be safely and firmly mounted onto the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding to effectively seal the package container and avoid an accidental damage of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding. In the cap assembly provided in the above embodiments, by forming the cap assembly with the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE, the strength and toughness of the cap assembly are improved so that the cap assembly can be firmly mounted onto a body of the package container via ultrasonic welding to effectively seal the package container and avoid an accidental damage of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding.
[0046] In the cap assembly shown in FIG. 1, it is described by taking example of the entire fluid guiding component 100 formed from a composite material comprising HDPE, LDPE and / or LLDPE. It can be understood that in other embodiments of the present disclosure, only the shoulder of the fluid guiding component is formed from the above composite material, the tube of the fluid guiding component is formed from other suitable materials such as HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, and / or polypropylene (PP) , and then they are combined to form the whole fluid guiding component.
[0047] FIG. 2A shows a schematic structural view of a cap assembly provided in another embodiment of the present disclosure; FIG. 2B shows a schematic front structural view of the fluid guiding component of the cap assembly shown in FIG. 2A; and FIG. 2C shows a schematic top structural view of the fluid guiding component of the cap assembly shown in FIG. 2A.
[0048] In general, the structure of the fluid guiding component 100 shown in FIGs. 2A-2C is similar to the fluid guiding component 100 shown in FIG. 1, and further provided with a convex ring 14 on the top surface of the shoulder 13 (i.e., the surface facing toward the cap) . As shown, the convex ring 14 is a substantially uniform annular convex edge surrounding the tube 12 that protrudes upward from the top surface of the shoulder 13. As used herein, the term “substantially uniform” means that any cross-sections of the convex part or convex edge have substantially the same shape and size. The annular convex edge is located between the outer periphery of the tube 12 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13 and spaced apart from both the outer periphery of the tube 12 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13. The convex ring 14 is integrally formed with the tube 12 and the shoulder 13 and made from a composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE, wherein the composite material has a density in a range of 930 –950 kg / m3. In some examples, based on the total weight of the composite material, the HDPE can be present in an amount from 40 wt%to 99 wt%, e.g., from 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 65 wt%, 70 wt%, 75 wt%, to 80 wt%, 85 wt%, 90 wt%, 95 wt%, 97 wt%, 98 wt%, or 99 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints, and the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be present in an amount from 1 wt%to 60 wt%, e.g., from 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt%, 20 wt%to 25 wt%, 30 wt%, 35 wt%, 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 60 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints, wherein the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be all LDPE or all LLDPE, or be any mixture of the two.
[0049] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 2A-2C, the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the cap 11 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13 is D, the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the convex ring 14 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13 is d1, the maximum height of the convex ring 14 is h, where h ranges from 10%D to 30%D, and d1 ranges from 1.0 h to 2.0 h. Controlling the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the convex ring and the outer periphery of the shoulder, and the height of the convex ring within the above ranges can effectively prevent material overflow and insufficient welding during the ultrasonic welding. As used herein, the term “material overflow” refers to a phenomenon that the melted material on the welding surface by the introduction of ultrasonic energy extends beyond the periphery of the shoulder of the cap during the ultrasonic welding. Small pieces of material overflow that protrude beyond the periphery of the shoulder of the cap may break and fall into the interior of the package due to vibration caused by ultrasonic energy during the ultrasonic welding or for other reasons, thereby causing contamination of the package contents. Thus, it is necessary to avoid the occurrence of material overflow. As used herein, the term “insufficient welding” refers to a phenomenon that the melted material on the welding surface by the introduction of ultrasonic energy is insufficient to fully weld the top surface of the shoulder to the inner surface of the package so that a gap is formed between the part of the top surface of the shoulder close to the outer periphery and the inner surface of the package because no welding melt is formed there. During the subsequent package sterilization process, such gap may not be effectively sterilized, thereby resulting in a hygiene risk. By appropriately setting the distance between the inner and outer peripheries of the convex ring and the outer periphery of the shoulder and the outer periphery of the cap, as well as the height and shape of the convex ring, the embodiments of the present disclosure can effectively prevent the occurrence of material overflow and insufficient welding. On the other hand, the minimum distance between the inner periphery of the convex ring 14 and the outer periphery of the cap is d2, where d2ranges from 1 / 3 D to 4 / 5 D. Controlling the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the convex ring and the inner periphery of the cap within the above range can effectively prevent poor sealing due to welding deviation during the ultrasonic welding, and potential leakage problem caused thereby.
[0050] In the embodiment of FIGs. 2A-2C, the convex ring 14 has a triangular cross-section with a base located on the top surface of the shoulder 13 and an apex being the peak of the convex ring 14 in the direction perpendicular to the shoulder 13. As shown in FIGs. 2A-2C, the distance between the apex of the triangle and the outer periphery of the convex ring 14 is smaller than the distance between the apex of the triangle and the inner periphery of the convex ring 14, that is, the apex of the triangle is biased toward the outer periphery of the convex ring 14. The convex ring with such triangular cross-section can effectively prevent insufficient welding and welding deviation problems during the ultrasonic welding.
[0051] In the embodiment of FIGs. 2A-2C, it is described by taking example of the cross-section of the convex ring 14 as a triangle with apex biased toward outside. It can be understood that in other embodiments, convex rings with other cross-sectional shapes including, but not limited to, isosceles / equilateral triangle, rectangle, square, semicircle, inverted boat shape or the like can also be used.
[0052] In the embodiment of FIGs. 2A-2C, it is described by taking example of a substantially uniform convex ring 14 formed on the top surface of the shoulder 13 and spaced apart from both the outer periphery of the tube 12 and the shoulder 13 as the convex part. It can be understood that in other embodiments, it is also feasible to form at least two substantially parallel, substantially uniform convex rings on the top surface of the shoulder as the convex part, wherein these convex rings are spaced apart from each other and spaced apart from the outer periphery of the tube and the outer periphery of the shoulder. For example, it is feasible to form two, three, four or more substantially parallel and spaced convex rings on the top surface of the shoulder. In a preferred aspect, it is feasible to form two substantially parallel and spaced convex rings on the top surface of the shoulder.
[0053] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 2A-2C, it is described by taking example of the outer periphery of the tube 12, the convex ring 14 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13 as substantially parallel concentric rings (that is, their orthographic projections on the shoulder 13 are concentric circles) . However, it can be understood that in other embodiments, one or some or all of the outer periphery of the tube, the convex ring and the outer periphery of the shoulder can also be in other shapes, e.g., one or some or all of the outer periphery, the convex ring and the outer periphery of the shoulder can also be in regular or irregular shapes such as concentric or non-concentric ovals, rectangles, rhombuses, squares, stars or rounded rectangles. Alternatively, it is also feasible to form a plurality of discontinuous protrusions, bosses, and / or flanges surrounding the outer periphery of the tube on the top surface of the shoulder as the convex part. It is not limited in the embodiments of the present disclosure.
[0054] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 2A-2C, it is described by taking example of the tube 12, the shoulder 13 and the convex ring 14 integrally formed. It can be understood that in other embodiments, it is also feasible to form one or some or all the tube, the shoulder and the convex ring with the same or different materials, respectively, and assemble them together by means such as welding, as long as the shoulder is made from the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LDPE.
[0055] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 2A-2C, by using the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE to form at least the shoulder of the cap assembly, the strength and toughness of the cap assembly are improved so that the cap assembly can be safely and firmly mounted on the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding, thereby effectively sealing the package container and avoiding any accidental loss caused by cracking or breaking of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding. During the ultrasonic welding, by providing the convex part on the shoulder, the ultrasonic energy transmitted during the ultrasonic welding is more easily concentrated on the top edge or surface of the convex part, so that the cap assembly can be better bonded to the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding, avoiding leakage problems caused by poor welding at individual sites. The design of the shape and structural parameters of the convex part avoids potential problems of material overflow and insufficient welding, as well as of poor sealing caused by welding deviations.
[0056] FIGs. 4A-4C show a schematic structural view of a cap assembly provided in still another embodiment of the present disclosure, wherein FIG. 4A shows a schematic cross-sectional view of the cap assembly 1 provided in the still another embodiment of the present disclosure; FIG. 4B is a schematic view of the cap assembly shown in FIG. 4A; and FIG. 4C is a schematic exploded view of the cap assembly shown in FIG. 4A.
[0057] As shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, the cap assembly 1 comprises a fluid guiding component 100 and a screw cap 11. The fluid guiding component 100 comprises a tube 12, a shoulder 13, a sealing piece 15, and a self-opening member 16. As shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, the tube 12 extends along the z direction (including the +z or -z direction) and comprises a first tube opening and a second tube opening which are opposite to each other in the z direction. The screw cap 11 releasably covers the first tube opening to seal the first tube opening. The shoulder 13 is attached to the second tube opening of the tube 12 and extends outward around the second tube opening. The top surface of the shoulder 12 (that is, the surface facing toward the cap 200) is provided with two substantially parallel, substantially uniform convex rings 14 and 14’ as the convex part. Both the convex rings 14 and 14’ are annular convex edges protruding upward from the top surface of the shoulder 13. They are located between the outer periphery of the tube 12 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13, spaced apart from each other, and spaced apart from both the outer periphery of the tube 12 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13. The sealing piece 15 is attached to the shoulder 13 and seals the second tube opening of the tube 12. Among them, the tube 12, the shoulder 13, the convex rings 14 and 14’ , and the sealing piece 15 are integrally formed and made from the composite material comprising HDPE and a material selected from the group consisting of LDPE, LLDPE, and a mixture thereof, wherein the composite material has a density in a range of 930 –950 kg / m3. The self-opening member 16 is mounted within the tube 12 and configured to rotate with the screw cap 11 to cut the sealing piece 15.
[0058] In the embodiments shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, based on the total weight of the composite material, the HDPE contained in the composite material can be present in an amount from 40 wt%to 99 wt%, e.g., from 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 65 wt%, 70 wt%, 75 wt%, to 80 wt%, 85 wt%, 90 wt%, 95 wt%, 97 wt%, 98 wt%, or 99 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints, and the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be present in an amount from 1 wt%to 60 wt%, e.g., from 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt%, 20 wt%to 25 wt%, 30 wt%, 35 wt%, 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 60 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints. In further examples, the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be all LLDPE or all LDPE; alternatively, the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be any mixture of the two.
[0059] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, the convex rings 14, 14’ have substantially the same shape as that in the embodiment shown in FIGs. 2A-2C. In addition, the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the cap 11 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13 is D, and the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the convex ring 14 and the outer periphery of the shoulder 13 is d1, the minimum distance between the inner periphery of the inner convex ring 14’ and the outer periphery of the cap 12 is d2, and the maximum heights of the convex rings 14 and 14' are h1and h2 respectively, wherein either of h1and h2ranges from 10%D to 30%D; d1 ranges from 1.0 to 2.0 times of the larger one of h1and h2; d2 ranges from 1 / 3 D to 4 / 5 D; and the distance between the peaks of the convex rings 14, 14’ in the radial direction is at least 0.5 times of (h1+h2) . Controlling the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the outermost convex ring and the outer periphery of the shoulder, the minimum distance between the innermost inner periphery of the convex ring and the outer periphery of the cap, and the height of the convex ring within the above ranges can effectively prevent material overflow and insufficient welding problems during the ultrasonic welding, as well as poor sealing problems caused by welding deviation.
[0060] In some examples, the tube 12 comprises, on its outer wall, an external connection structure, such as external thread. The screw cap 11 comprises, on its inner side wall, a connection structure, such as an internal thread configured to cooperate with the external thread of the tube 12. By this way, the opening or sealing of the first tube opening of the tube 12 with the screw cap 11 can be achieved using the disengagement or engagement of the external thread of the tube 12 and the internal thread of the screw cap 11, thereby improving the sealing capacity of the package container of the package container and the convenience in use.
[0061] In other examples, the tube 12 can further comprise an internal connection structure located on its inner wall, such as an internal thread. The self-opening member 16 comprises an external thread located on its outside, which is configured to cooperate with the internal thread of the tube 12 so that the self-opening member 16 can rotationally move in a direction away from the sealing piece 15 (e.g., in the +z direction as shown) or in a direction toward the sealing piece 15 (e.g., in the -z direction as shown) with the rotation of the screw cap 11. For example, the self-opening member 16 is coaxially disposed with the tube 12 and configured to rotationally move downward in the -z direction when the wall of the screw cap 11 rotationally moves upward in the +z direction, thereby cutting the sealing piece 15 disposed at the second opening of the tube 12.
[0062] In still other examples, the sealing piece 15 can be provided with a weakened area, and the self-opening member 16 can pierce and cut the sealing piece 15 in the weakened area. For example, the weakened area can be impression along at least a portion of the inner periphery of the second tube opening of the tube 12, etc. In a preferred aspect, the weakened area can be configured such that the self-opening member 16 cannot fully cut off the sealing piece 15 with the rotation of the screw cap 11 to prevent the cut sealing piece 15 from breaking away from the cap assembly 1 and falling into the package contents to contaminate the contents of the package.
[0063] In the embodiment of FIGs. 4A-4C, the cross-sections of the convex rings 14, 14’ are both triangles with base located on the top surface of the shoulder 13, and the apexes of the two triangles are each the peaks of the convex ring 14, 14’ along a direction perpendicular to the shoulder 13. As shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, the distance between the vertex of each triangle and the outer periphery of the corresponding convex ring is smaller than the distance between the vertex of the triangle and the inner periphery of the corresponding convex ring, that is, the vertex of each triangle is biased towards the outer periphery of the convex ring. The convex ring with such triangular cross-section can effectively prevent insufficient welding and welding deviation problems during the ultrasonic welding.
[0064] In the embodiment of FIGs. 4A-4C, it is described by taking example of the cross-section of the convex rings 14, 14’ as triangle with apex biased toward outside. It can be understood that in other embodiments, convex rings with other cross-sectional shapes including, but not limited to, isosceles / equilateral triangle, rectangle, square, semicircle, inverted boat shape or the like can also be used.
[0065] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, it is described by taking example of the cap 11 as screw cap. It is understood that in other embodiments, the cap can be a cap having another structure such as a snap-in member, as long as it is convenient to repeatedly connect the cap to the assembly.
[0066] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, it is described by taking example of the sealing piece 15 configured to attach to the shoulder 13 and seal the second tube opening of the tube 12. It can be understood that in other embodiments, the sealing piece 15 can also be disposed inside the tube and attached to the inner wall of the tube to seal the tube. For example, the sealing piece can also be disposed in the middle of the tube or adjacent to the first tube opening of the tube, as long as it can seal the tube.
[0067] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, it is described by taking example of the sealing piece 15 disposed within the tube 12 and cut by the self-opening member 16 rotationally moving in the z direction. It can be understood that in other embodiments, it is also feasible to utilize a self-opening member with another structure, as long as it can cut or otherwise destroy the sealing piece upon the separation of the cap and the fluid guiding component. Alternatively, the self-opening member can also be omitted, while the sealing piece is changed to be cut by an external tool such as knife, or the sealing piece can be configured to have a manually opened pull ring.
[0068] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, it is described by taking example of the tube 12, the shoulder 13, the convex rings 14, 14’ , and the sealing piece 15 integrally formed. It can be understood that in other embodiments, it can also be feasible to form one or some or all of the tube, the shoulder, the convex rings, and the sealing piece with the same or different materials, respectively, and then assemble them together by means such as welding, as long as the shoulder is made from the composite comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE.
[0069] In the embodiment shown in FIGs. 4A-4C, by using the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE to form at least the shoulder of the cap assembly, the strength and toughness of the cap assembly are improved so that the cap assembly can be safely and firmly mounted on the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding, thereby effectively sealing the package container and avoiding any accidental loss caused by cracking or breaking of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding. During the ultrasonic welding, the design of the convex ring on the shoulder make the ultrasonic energy transmitted during the ultrasonic welding more easily concentrate on the top edge or surface of the convex ring, so that the cap assembly can be better bonded to the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding, avoiding leakage problems caused by poor welding at individual sites. Disposing two substantially parallel convex rings avoids potential material overflow problem caused by excess material accumulation at individual sites, thereby avoiding the contamination of package content caused by the break of material overflow. The design of the shape and structural parameters of the convex part avoids potential problems of material overflow or insufficient welding, as well as of poor sealing caused by welding deviations.
[0070] In some embodiments, one or some or all the fluid guiding component, the cap, and the potential sealing piece and self-opening member of the cap assembly can be formed by injection molding method.
[0071] In some embodiments, a slip agent can also be added to at least one of the fluid guiding component and the cap of the cap assembly. For example, based on the total weight of the fluid guiding component, the slip agent can be added to the fluid guiding component in an amount ranging from 0.01 to 2.5 wt%, e.g., from 0.1 wt%to 2.4 wt%, from 0.5 wt%to 2.3 wt%, from 1.0 wt%to 2.0 wt%, etc.; and / or, based on the total weight of the cap, the slip agent can be added to the cap in an amount ranging from 0.01 to 2.5 wt%, e.g., from 0.1 wt%to 2.4 wt%, from 0.5 wt%to 2.3 wt%, from 1.0 wt%to 2.0 wt%, etc. In general, adding the slip agent into the fluid guiding component and / or the cap can help reduce the film cutting force of the member and increase the strip torque so that the sealing piece can be more easily cut off and the cap is not easy to escape when a user opens the cap. In some examples, the slip agent can be used in both the flow guide and the cap. In other examples, the slip agent can be used only in the fluid guiding component, but not in the cap, to prevent over-rotation issues.
[0072] An embodiment of the present disclosure further provides a package container comprising any cap assembly according to the embodiment of the present disclosure. FIG. 5 shows a schematic view of a package container 1000 provided in an embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 5, the package container 1000 provided in the embodiment of the present disclosure comprised: a cap assembly 1 and a body of package container (hereinafter referred to as “the body” ) 2.
[0073] As shown in FIG. 5, e.g., the body 2 comprised top, sides and bottom. In the vertical direction (the z-direction as shown) , the sides were connected between the top and the bottom. The top was a roof-like structure with a preformed opening thereon, and the cap assembly 1 passed through the body 2 from inside to the outside via the preformed opening and was attached to the body 2.
[0074] To prevent deterioration of the package contents such as liquids, gels, powders or the flowable solids, the body 2 can be formed by folding of a composite sheet. For example, from the outer surface to the inner surface of the body 2, the composite sheet can comprise pattern-printable ink layer, outer polymer layer, support layer, water-and oxygen-barrier layer, inner polymer layer, and the like, which are disposed in order.
[0075] The embodiment of the present disclosure is described by taking example that the top is roof-shaped and has a preformed opening attached to the cap assembly 1 on the slope of the roof-shaped part. It can be understood that in other embodiments, the top can also be configured in a flat roof shape and has an end opening attached to the cap assembly 1 at the top plane of the flat roof shaped part. Alternatively, the top can also be in a flat shape or other shapes. It is not limited in the embodiments of the present disclosure.
[0076] In the package container provided in the above embodiments, by forming at least the shoulder of the cap assembly with the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE, the strength and toughness of the cap assembly are improved so that the cap assembly can be firmly mounted onto a body of the package container via ultrasonic welding to effectively seal the package container and avoid an accidental damage of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding.
[0077] An embodiment of the present disclosure further provides a method for manufacturing a package container comprising: providing a cap assembly comprising a fluid guiding component which comprises a tube and a shoulder attached to and surrounding the tube, and a cap which releasably covers the tube and seals a cover end of the tube, wherein at least the shoulder of the fluid guiding component is made from a composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE, wherein the composite material has a density in a range of 930 –950 kg / m3; providing a body of the package container; forming a preformed opening on the body of the package container so that the preformed opening has a shape and size matched with an outer wall of the tube of the fluid guiding component of the cap assembly; passing the tube through the preformed opening from the inside to the outside; and attaching the cap assembly to the body of the package container by ultrasonic welding a surface of the shoulder facing toward the cap to the body of the package container to manufacture the package container.
[0078] In some examples, based on the total weight of the composite material, the HDPE can be present in an amount from 40 wt%to 99 wt%, e.g., from 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 65 wt%, 70 wt%, 75 wt%, to 80 wt%, 85 wt%, 90 wt%, 95 wt%, 97 wt%, 98 wt%, or 99 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints, and the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be present in an amount from 1 wt%to 60 wt%, e.g., from 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt%, 20 wt%to 25 wt%, 30 wt%, 35 wt%, 40 wt%, 45 wt%, 50 wt%, 55 wt%, 60 wt%, or in a range formed by any combination of the above endpoints. In further examples, the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be all LLDPE or all LDPE; alternatively, the LDPE and / or LLDPE can be any mixture of the two.
[0079] In the method for manufacturing the package container provided in the above embodiments, by forming at least the shoulder of the cap assembly with the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE, the strength and toughness of the cap assembly are improved so that the cap assembly can be firmly mounted onto a body of the package container via ultrasonic welding to effectively seal the package container and avoid an accidental damage of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding; and by passing the cap assembly through the preformed opening with matching shape and size on the body of the package container from inside to outside, the cap assembly can be firmly stuck in the package container to effectively prevent the cap assembly from accidental separation with the package containing due to external force.
[0080] EXAMPLES
[0081] Hereinafter the present invention will be further explained in detail with reference to examples and comparative examples. However, those skilled in the art will understand that the examples and comparative examples are provided only for illustrative purposes and are not intended to limit the present invention.
[0082] Preparation Examples:
[0083] Referring to FIGs. 2A-2C, FIGs. 4A-4C and Table 1 below, the cap assembly and comparative cap assembly were manufactured, wherein the fluid guiding component (including the tube, the shoulder, and the potential convex ring and sealing piece) was integrally formed by injection molding. Among them, if the cap assembly comprised convex ring (s) , the convex ring (s) would meet the following conditions:
[0084] · the convex ring (s) was (were) substantially uniform convex rings surrounding the tube;
[0085] · the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the cap and the outer periphery of the shoulder was D, the minimum distance between the outer periphery of the outermost convex ring and the outer periphery of the shoulder was d1, and the minimum distance between the inner periphery of the innermost convex ring and the inner periphery of the shoulders was d2;
[0086] · in the case of one convex ring, the maximum height of the convex ring was h; and in the case of two convex rings, the maximum heights of the two convex rings in the direction from the outer periphery of the tube toward the outer periphery of the shoulder were h1and h2 in sequence;
[0087] · wherein h ranged from 10%D to 30%D, or any one of h1and h2 ranged from 10%D to 30%D; d1 ranged from 1.0 h to 2.0 h, or d1 ranged from 1.0 to 2.0 times of the maximum of h1, h2... hn; d2 ranged from 1 / 3 D to 4 / 5 D; and the distance between the peaks of the two convex rings in the radial direction was at least 0.5 times of (h1 + h2) .
[0088] Table 1. Manufacture of Cap Assemblies
[0089] Note:
[0090] 1) HDPE represents high-density polyethylene, LLDPE represents linear low-density polyethylene, and PP represents polypropylene;
[0091] 2) The weight percentage of HDPE and LLDPE is based on the total weight of the composite material;
[0092] 3) The weight percentage of the slip agent is based on the total weight of the fluid guiding component or the cap.
[0093] Test Examples
[0094] 1. Test of Welding Performance
[0095] Each of the cap assemblies 1-7 manufactured as above was mounted onto the body of a package container via ultrasonic welding to form a package container as shown in FIG. 5, which was tested for its performance. The results are shown in Table 2 below. The push-out force refers to a force required to separate the welded cap assembly from the body of the package container by an applied push force.
[0096] Table 2. Welding Performance Test Results of Cap Assemblies According To Embodiments Of The Present Disclosure
[0097] Note:
[0098] 1) The welding time needs to be < 0.27 s to meet the processing needs of the production line;
[0099] 2) The push-out force needs to be > 100 N, otherwise it will be regarded as poor welding;
[0100] 3) It needs to be fully welded with the fiber layer in the body of the package container, otherwise it will be regarded as poor welding.
[0101] From the above test results, it can be seen that with regard to the cap assemblies 6 and 7 in which the fluid guiding component is completely made from HDPE, when the ultrasonic welding energy and amplitude are low, the shoulder cannot be fully welded to the fiber layer of the body of the package container; and when the ultrasonic welding energy and amplitude is high, a material overflow will occur, while the welding time of such cap assemblies are too long to find a suitable working window. In contrast, with regard to the cap assemblies in which the fluid guiding component is made from the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE according to the embodiments of the present disclosure, the shoulder can be well welded to the body of the package container to form firm weld-bonding; when one or two convex rings are added, the shoulder can achieve good welding and firm bonding under lower ultrasonic welding energy and amplitude for shorter welding time, and no material overflow phenomenon occurs, thereby providing a broader wording window for mounting the cap assembly to the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding.
[0102] 2. Torque Performance Test
[0103] As described in the Preparation Examples, 60 pieces of cap assemblies 3 and 8 each were manufactured and stored at room temperature for 3 days. Then, the respective types of cap assemblies were divided into three groups (with 20 pieces per group) , which were held at room temperature, 3℃, and 35℃ for at least 24 hours.
[0104] The cap assembly was fixed and locked on the torque meter (Mecmesin Tornado) with a clamp, and then the cap of the cap assembly was grasped with a cap-grabbing head and allowed to rotate. The torque data were recorded. The results are shown in Table 3 below.
[0105] Table 3. Torque Performance Test results of Cap Assemblies According to Embodiments of the Present Disclosure
[0106] From the above test results, it can be seen that adding a slip agent to the fluid guiding component and / or the cap can effectively reduce the piercing torque and increase the strip torque so that the cap assembly can cut the sealing piece more easily and the cap is not easy to escape. Compared with the cap assembly 3 in which the slip agent is added only to the fluid guiding component, but is not added to the cap, the piercing torque of the cap assembly 8 in which the slip agent is added to both the fluid guiding component and the cap is lower, but the strip torque is also lower. Thus, the cap assembly 8 can cut the sealing piece more easily, but an over-rotation issue is likely to occur.
[0107] As seen from the above embodiments, in the cap assembly, the package container, and the method for manufacturing a package container provided in the above embodiments of the present disclosure, by using the composite material comprising HDPE and LDPE and / or LLDPE to form at least the shoulder of the cap assembly, the strength and toughness of the cap assembly are improved so that the cap assembly can be safely and firmly mounted on the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding, thereby effectively sealing the package container and avoiding any accidental loss caused by cracking or breaking of the cap assembly during the ultrasonic welding. During the ultrasonic welding, the design of the convex ring on the shoulder makes the ultrasonic energy transmitted during the ultrasonic welding more easily concentrate on the top edge or surface of the convex ring, so that the cap assembly can be better bonded to the body of the package container via ultrasonic welding, avoiding leakage problems caused by poor welding at individual sites. Two substantially parallel convex rings avoid potential material overflow problem caused by excess material accumulation at individual sites, thereby avoiding the contamination of package content caused by the break of material overflow. By passing the cap assembly through the preformed opening of matching shape and size on the body of the package container from the inside out, the cap assembly can be firmly stuck on the package container, effectively preventing the cap assembly from accidentally falling off the package container due to external force.
