Description

Electrode manufacturing device and electrode manufacturing method The present invention relates to an electrode manufacturing device and an electrode manufacturing method, and more particularly, to an electrode manufacturing device and an electrode manufacturing method capable of minimizing deformation of an electrode current collector including a polymer resin layer. With the technological development and increasing demand for electric vehicles and energy storage systems (ESS), the demand for batteries as an energy source is rapidly increasing. Consequently, research is being conducted to develop batteries that can meet diverse needs. In particular, active research is being conducted on lithium secondary batteries, which possess high energy density and excellent lifespan and cycling characteristics as power sources for these devices. However, lithium secondary batteries can experience rapid increases in electrode temperature due to thermal and physical factors. Thermal factors include overcharging or overloading caused by misuse or malfunctions such as chargers. Physical factors include damage to the separator due to external impact, causing contact between the negative and positive electrode materials, resulting in a rapid increase in electrode temperature. If the electrode temperature rises rapidly in this way, the electrolyte and lithium may react, or hydrogen and oxygen may be generated within the battery, making the battery extremely unstable. In addition, the electrolyte solvent may decompose, generating gas, which may ignite and lead to an explosion of the battery. Conventional lithium secondary batteries contain only a single metal layer as an electrode current collector. Specifically, an aluminum single metal layer is used as a positive electrode current collector, and a copper single metal layer is used as a negative electrode current collector. However, these single metal layers have extremely high electrical and thermal conductivities, which leads to extremely short times for the battery to reach high temperatures, which can lead to abnormal battery behavior, and concerns about thermal propagation due to thermal runaway. Accordingly, by using an electrode current collector (metallized film) containing a polymer resin layer sandwiched between two metal layers instead of a conventional electrode current collector, it is possible to reduce the weight compared to an electrode current collector made of metal, thereby dramatically improving the energy density per weight, and can improve safety by short-circuiting between electrodes in the event of a fire. Meanwhile, the electrode manufacturing process using the roll-to-roll process accounts for approximately 18% of the battery manufacturing process, and is an important process in which most variables in battery design are determined. It is a difficult process that can be affected by various variables such as roll temperature control, speed ratio control between each roll, removal of foreign substances, and driving speed control of the entire roll-to-roll process. In the electrode manufacturing process using this roll-to-roll process, when using an electrode current collector in which a polymer resin layer is interposed between two metal layers, since the polymer resin layer and the metal layer have different characteristics, such as different glass transition temperatures and different tensile strengths, when manufacturing electrodes using the roll-to-roll process, wrinkles occur during roll winding due to shrinkage or elongation of the polymer resin layer, which has a serious impact on the electrode quality. In addition, in order to find appropriate process conditions to improve wrinkle occurrence, the electrode current collector film that has been driven while finding the conditions must be discarded. However, films with a multilayer structure have limitations in disposal and recycling, and there is also the problem of a decline in unit price competitiveness due to material exhaustion. Accordingly, there is a need for an electrode manufacturing technology that utilizes a metallized film electrode collector with improved safety that can ensure process continuity while maintaining excellent electrode quality and achieving zero waste of electrode collectors. The present invention aims to provide an electrode manufacturing device and an electrode manufacturing method capable of manufacturing an electrode by utilizing an electrode current collector which is a metallized film including a polymer resin layer, and improving quality by reducing the amount of waste of the electrode current collector due to wrinkles in a roll-to-roll process to zero. [1] According to one embodiment, an electrode manufacturing device including a roll-to-roll process is provided, wherein an electrode current collector and a process film are sequentially wound from an outer surface of a supply roller, and an unwinding unit for continuously supplying the electrode current collector; and an active material forming unit for forming an active material layer on a surface of the electrode current collector; wherein the electrode current collector includes a polymer resin layer and a metal layer disposed on both sides of the polymer resin layer, and the process film is made of the same material as the polymer resin layer of the electrode current collector. [2] In the above [1], the electrode manufacturing device may have a length ratio of the electrode current collector and the process film of 1.5:1 to 3.5:1. [3] In the above [1] and / or [2], the electrode manufacturing device may have a process film that is longer than the total line length of the roll-to-roll process. [4] In at least one of the above [1] to [3], the electrode manufacturing device may include a polymer resin layer including at least one selected from the group consisting of a polyester resin, an epoxy resin, a phenol resin, a melamine resin, a urethane resin, a silicone resin, a vinyl acetate resin, a rubber resin, an acrylic resin, and a polyetherurethane resin. [5] In at least one of the above [1] to [4], the electrode manufacturing device may include at least one selected from the group consisting of copper, stainless steel, aluminum, nickel, titanium, heat-treated carbon, and aluminum-cadmium alloy. [6] In at least one of the above [1] to [5], the electrode manufacturing device may have a process film whose surface is coated with a low-grade alcohol or whose surface is treated with room temperature plasma. [7] In at least one of the above [1] to [6], the electrode manufacturing device may further include a winding unit for winding the electrode current collector on which the active material layer is disposed into a roll shape. [8] In at least one of the above [1] to [7], the electrode manufacturing device may include an active material application unit that applies an active material slurry to the surface of the electrode current collector; and a drying unit that dries the active material applied on the electrode current collector. [9] In at least one of the above [1] to [8], the electrode manufacturing device may include a powder forming unit for manufacturing powder containing the active material; and a calendar unit for rolling the powder to manufacture a self-supporting film.

[0010] In at least one of the above [1] to [9], the electrode manufacturing device may have a thickness ratio of the metal layers disposed on both sides of the polymer resin layer of 1:1 to 1:15 independently with respect to the polymer resin layer.

[0011] In at least one of the above [1] to

[0010] , the electrode manufacturing device may have a polymer resin layer and a process film having a thickness of 3 ㎛ to 20 ㎛.

[0012] In at least one of the above [1] to

[0011] , the electrode manufacturing device may have metal layers disposed on both sides of the polymer resin layer each independently having a thickness of 0.2 µm to 5 µm.

[0013] According to another embodiment, a method for manufacturing an electrode including a roll-to-roll process is provided, comprising: a step (S1) of guiding a process film in preference to an electrode collector from an unwinding portion in which an electrode collector and a process film are sequentially wound on an outer surface of a roller; a step (S2) of collecting process conditions including temperature as variables and the degree of deformation of the process film as data while the process film is guided; a step (S3) of extracting process conditions under which the process film is not deformed from the collected data; and a step (S4) of arranging an active material layer on the current collector while the electrode collector film is guided under the process conditions extracted in step S3.

[0014] In the above

[0013] , the electrode manufacturing method may be such that the step S1 guides the process film to a length longer than the total line length of the roll-to-roll process. An electrode manufacturing device according to one embodiment can manufacture an electrode by utilizing an electrode current collector which is a metallized film including a polymer resin layer, and can improve electrode quality by reducing the amount of waste of the electrode current collector due to wrinkles in a roll-to-roll process to zero. In addition, the electrode manufacturing method according to another embodiment can pre-adjust process conditions so that wrinkles do not occur in the electrode current collector, which is a metallized film including a polymer resin layer, and thus has the advantage of not having to consume the electrode current collector for electrode manufacturing. Furthermore, in the section where the polymer resin layer runs alone, by applying a treatment that provides various functions to the polymer resin layer, foreign substances on the surface of the guide roll can be removed before the main process, thereby improving quality. An electrode manufacturing device according to one embodiment includes a roll-to-roll process, wherein an electrode current collector and a process film are sequentially wound from an outer surface of a supply roller, and includes an unwinding unit for continuously supplying the electrode current collector; and an active material forming unit for forming an active material layer on a surface of the electrode current collector. In addition, the electrode current collector includes a polymer resin layer and a metal layer disposed on both sides of the polymer resin layer, and the process film is made of the same material as the polymer resin layer of the electrode current collector. Fig. 1 is a schematic diagram showing an example of the electrode manufacturing device (100), and the electrode manufacturing device (100) is described with reference to this. The above electrode manufacturing device (100) sequentially discharges and guides the process film and the electrode current collector from the unwinding unit (110) on which the electrode current collector (112) and the process film are sequentially wound, and the guided electrode current collector (112) passes through the active material forming unit (120) that forms an active material layer on the current collector, thereby manufacturing the electrode (160). At this time, the electrode current collector (112) may pass through guide rollers (151, 152) while traveling to the active material forming unit (120), and the number of guide rollers may be appropriately applied depending on the needs of the process. After passing through the active material forming unit (120), the electrode may be rolled by a rolling roller (140), and a guide roller (153) may also be provided at the rear end thereof. The above electrode manufacturing device (100) may further include a winding unit (130) for winding the electrode (160), which is an electrode current collector (112) on which the active material layer is arranged, into a roll shape; however, the electrode (160) may not be wound by a roll like the winding unit (130), but may be cut while being moved by a moving means such as a conveyor belt, and may be recovered in various ways in conjunction with the shape of the electrode assembly or the subsequent battery assembly process. Electrode current collector According to one embodiment, the electrode current collector (112) includes a polymer resin layer (1121) and metal layers (1122, 1123) disposed on both sides of the polymer resin layer. Accordingly, by using an electrode current collector including a polymer resin layer sandwiched between two metal layers instead of a conventional electrode current collector, it is possible to reduce the weight compared to an electrode current collector made of metal, thereby dramatically improving the energy density per weight, and in addition, safety can be improved by causing a short circuit between the electrodes in the event of a fire. According to one embodiment, the polymer resin layer (1121) is a matrix resin that prevents abnormal heat transfer between the electrode current collector and the electrode mixture layer, and can also play a role in reducing the weight of the electrode current collector and alleviating external impact. The polymer resin layer may include, for example, at least one selected from the group consisting of polyester resin, epoxy resin, phenol resin, melamine resin, urethane resin, silicone resin, vinyl acetate resin, rubber resin, acrylic resin, and polyetherurethane resin. For example, the polymer resin layer may include at least one selected from the group consisting of polyimide (PI), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyacrylonitrile (PAN), polyethylene (PE), polyamide (PA), and polypropylene (PP). In addition, the polymer resin layer may be a thermosetting resin or a photocurable resin, and preferably may include an ultraviolet-curable resin. The polymer resin layer may include a photoinitiator such as a benzoin compound, an acetophenone compound, an acylphosphine oxide compound, a titanocene compound, a thioxanthone compound, or a peroxide compound, or a photoinitiator such as an amine or a quinone, and may additionally include a curing accelerator such as an amine-based, imidazole-based, phosphorus-based, boron-based, or phosphorus-boron-based. In addition, it may include a thermal initiator such as a peroxide such as azobisnitrile, benzoyl peroxide, or acetyl peroxide. The above polymer resin layer may have a thickness of 3 ㎛ to 20 ㎛, may be 4 ㎛ or more, 5 ㎛ or more, or 6 ㎛ or more, and may also be 15 ㎛ or less, 13 ㎛ or less, 10 ㎛ or less, or 8 ㎛ or less. When the thickness of the polymer resin layer satisfies the range of 3 ㎛ to 20 ㎛, it may be a thickness optimized for heat transfer and may be a level that may not affect the energy density, and accordingly, there is an advantage of being able to improve the energy density while having the effect of reducing the weight of the electrode current collector and alleviating external impact. The above metal layers (1122, 1123) may include at least one selected from the group consisting of copper, stainless steel, aluminum, nickel, titanium, heat-treated carbon, and aluminum-cadmium alloy. Although not particularly limited, when forming a positive electrode current collector, it is preferable to include aluminum, and when forming a negative electrode current collector, it is preferable to include copper. In addition, the metal layers (1122, 1123) may form fine unevenness on the surface to strengthen the bonding strength with the electrode active material layer, and may be used in various forms such as a film, sheet, foil, net, porous body, foam, and non-woven fabric. The above metal layer (1122, 1123) may be 0.2 ㎛ to 5.0 ㎛, preferably 0.3 ㎛ or more, 0.5 ㎛ or more, or 0.6 ㎛ or more, and may also be 3.0 ㎛ or less, 2.0 ㎛ or less, 1.5 ㎛ or less, or 1.0 ㎛ or less. When the thickness of the metal layer satisfies the above range, it can perform its function as a support without any problem, can be a thickness that is easy to control physical properties, and can be an optimal thickness when resistance, energy density, etc. are taken into consideration. The thickness ratio of the metal layer and the polymer resin layer may be 1:1 to 1:15, and the thickness ratio may be a ratio of either one of the two metal layers, and the two metal layers may have thicknesses applied independently of each other. The thickness ratio may be 1:1 to 1:15, preferably 1:4 to 1:12, and more preferably 1:6 to 1:10. When the thickness ratio of the first metal layer or the second metal layer and the polymer resin layer satisfies the numerical range, there is an effect of increasing the energy density of the cell while improving safety. Recommendation An electrode manufacturing device (100) according to one embodiment includes an electrode current collector (112) and a process film (113) sequentially wound from the outer surface of a supply roller (111), and includes an unwinding unit (110) that continuously supplies the electrode current collector (112). Figure 2 shows the extrusion part, in which the electrode current collector (112) is wound around the outer surface of the supply roller (111) and positioned on the inner side of the extrusion part (110), and the process film (113) is wound around the outer surface of the electrode current collector (110) and positioned on the outer side. By winding the electrode current collector (112) and the process film (113) together on the supply roller (111) to form the unwinding part (110), the process film (113) wound at the rear end can be run first while setting the process conditions, and accordingly, when running the electrode current collector (112), the problem of wrinkles occurring during roll winding or wrinkles occurring in the middle of the process can be prevented, thereby preventing consumption / disposal of the electrode current collector. In addition, compared to the case where the process film (113) is wound on a separate roller and a running test is performed, process inefficiencies such as stopping the process and replacing it with a new roller can be eliminated, and thus a significant advantage can be obtained in the process. In the above electrode manufacturing device (100), the process film (113) wrapped around the outer side of the extrusion part (110) is made of the same material as the polymer resin layer (1121) of the electrode current collector (112) wrapped around the inner side. In forming the above-mentioned extrusion part (110), the extrusion part (110) can be easily manufactured by forming the metal layer (1122, 1123) only on a part of the polymer resin layer (1121), and in extracting the optimal conditions by using the process conditions as a variable, the accuracy of the process and the electrode quality can be secured by applying the same material as the polymer resin layer of the actual electrode current collector. The above electrode current collector and process film may have a length ratio of 1.5:1 to 3.5:1. The length of the electrode current collector may be applied to be about 1.5 to 3.5 times longer than the length of the process film, preferably 1.6 times or more, 1.7 times or more, 1.8 times or more, or 2.0 times or more, and also 3.4 times or less, 3.3 times or less, 3.2 times or less, 3.1 times or less, or 3.0 times or less. From this, the process conditions that can improve the electrode quality as accurately as possible can be extracted. The above range takes into consideration the length of the process film that is consumed and the process film that needs to be run when extracting the process conditions. The above process film may be at least as long as the total line length of the applicable roll-to-roll process. While it may be possible to extract process conditions without running the entire process, it may be necessary to run the process film at least for the entire process length for more accurate process condition extraction. The above process film may have a surface coated with a low-grade alcohol or a surface treated with room-temperature plasma. The process film may be applied to extract process conditions to minimize defects before applying the electrode current collector, which is a metallized film, to an actual electrode manufacturing device. However, the process film is not limited to this function, and can remove foreign substances present on various rollers in a roll-to-roll process through a coating of a low-grade alcohol or a room-temperature plasma treatment, and can be applied to various functions. Active material forming part According to one embodiment, the electrode manufacturing device (200, 300) includes a roll-to-roll process and includes an active material forming unit (220, 320) that forms an active material layer on the surface of an electrode current collector (112). The above electrode manufacturing device (200) may be a wet method applied, as shown in FIG. 3, in which the active material forming unit (220) includes an active material applying unit (221) that applies a slurry containing an active material to the surface of an electrode current collector; and a drying unit (222) that dries the active material applied on the electrode current collector. In the above active material forming unit (220), a process of applying a slurry containing an electrode active material, a conductive material, and a binder onto an electrode current collector (112) by an active material applying unit (221) can be performed, and after the active material layer is applied, the slurry can be manufactured into an electrode by a drying unit (222). The active material applying unit (221) can form the active material layer on only one side of the electrode current collector (112) or can form it on both sides. The electrode manufacturing device according to FIG. 3 is a wet method, and in the process of applying and drying the slurry, additional guide rollers can be additionally arranged and utilized in addition to the guide rollers (251, 252, 253) illustrated in FIG. 3, as needed. The method of applying or drying the slurry containing the above electrode active material may be a conventional method applied in this technical field, but is not limited thereto. Alternatively, the electrode manufacturing device (300) may be a dry method applied, such as shown in FIG. 4, in which the active material forming unit (320) includes a powder forming unit (321) that manufactures powder containing the active material; and a calendar unit (322) that roll-rolls the powder to manufacture a self-supporting film (370). In the case of the dry method, a process that does not include a solvent may be performed by mixing an electrode active material, a conductive material, and a binder, applying a shear force to form an aggregate, and then crushing and calendering the aggregate to manufacture a self-supporting film (370). In this case, the film may be bonded to an electrode current collector (112) by a laminating method. Since the dry method may be performed by a roll-to-roll process from the pre-sheeting process of the crushed aggregate powder to the calendering process, an appropriate number of guide rollers (354, 355) may be placed at appropriate locations. Electrode manufacturing method According to another embodiment, a method for manufacturing an electrode is provided, wherein the method for manufacturing an electrode may be a method for manufacturing an electrode using the electrode manufacturing device described above. The above electrode manufacturing method is characterized by including a step (S1) in which a process film is guided in preference to an electrode collector from an unwinding portion in which an electrode collector and a process film are sequentially wound on an outer surface of a roller; a step (S2) in which process conditions including temperature are collected as variables and the degree of deformation of the process film is collected as data while the process film is guided; a step (S3) in which process conditions under which the process film is not deformed are extracted from the collected data; and a step (S4) in which an active material layer is disposed on the electrode collector while the electrode collector film is guided under the process conditions extracted in the step S3. In the above S2 step, it may be possible to consider all conditions in which the polymer resin layer may be affected by heat caused by the electrode current collector, and specifically, it may be possible to consider conditions of the heat treatment chamber during electrode drying, temperature conditions of the heating roll, etc. When applying the above manufacturing method, the optimal process conditions can be extracted in advance using the process film, thereby significantly reducing the defect occurrence rate. In order to extract more optimal process conditions, the process film may be controlled in the S1 step to be guided at least longer than the total line length of the roll-to-roll process. In the above manufacturing method, the description of the electrode current collector and the process film, the description of the method of arranging the active material layer on the electrode current collector, etc. are the same as the description of the electrode manufacturing device described above, and therefore, their description is omitted. lithium secondary battery A lithium secondary battery may include an electrode assembly impregnated with an electrolyte within a pouch-shaped, cylindrical, or square battery case. The electrode assembly includes an electrode, and may include an electrode manufactured by an electrode manufacturing device according to an embodiment of the present invention. The electrode assembly comprises a positive electrode, a separator, and a negative electrode sequentially laminated, the separator being disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, the positive electrode comprising a positive electrode current collector and a positive electrode active material layer laminated on the positive electrode current collector, the negative electrode comprising a negative electrode current collector and a negative electrode active material layer laminated on the negative electrode current collector, and at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode may be manufactured by the electrode manufacturing apparatus of the present invention described above. anode The metal layer of the positive electrode current collector may include a highly conductive metal, and is not particularly limited as long as it is a metal to which the positive electrode active material layer can be easily adhered, but is not reactive in the voltage range of the battery. The positive electrode current collector may be made of, for example, stainless steel, aluminum, nickel, titanium, heat-treated carbon, or aluminum or stainless steel surface-treated with carbon, nickel, titanium, silver, etc. In addition, the positive electrode current collector may typically have a thickness of 3 μm to 500 μm, and fine unevenness may be formed on the surface of the current collector to increase the adhesion of the positive electrode active material. For example, the positive electrode current collector may be used in various forms such as a film, a sheet, a foil, a net, a porous body, a foam, a non-woven fabric, etc. The above positive electrode active material layer may optionally include a conductive material and a binder, together with the positive electrode active material, as needed. At this time, the positive electrode active material may be included in an amount of 80% to 99% by weight, more specifically 90% to 98% by weight, based on the total weight of the positive electrode active material layer. The conductive material is used to provide conductivity to the electrode, and in the battery to be formed, as long as it does not cause a chemical change and has electronic conductivity, it can be used without any particular limitation. Specific examples include graphite such as natural graphite or artificial graphite; carbon-based materials such as carbon black, acetylene black, Ketjen black, channel black, furnace black, lamp black, thermal black, and carbon fiber; metal powders or metal fibers such as copper, nickel, aluminum, and silver; conductive tubes such as carbon nanotubes; conductive whiskers such as zinc oxide or potassium titanate; conductive metal oxides such as titanium oxide; or conductive polymers such as polyphenylene derivatives, and the like. One of these may be used alone or a mixture of two or more may be used. The conductive material may be included in an amount of 0.01 wt% to 10 wt%, preferably 0.1 wt% to 9 wt%, and more preferably 0.1 wt% to 5 wt%, based on the total weight of the positive electrode active material layer. The above binder serves to improve the adhesion between positive electrode active material particles and the adhesion between the positive electrode active material and the current collector. Specific examples include polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyvinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene copolymer (PVDF-co-HFP), polyvinylalcohol, polyacrylonitrile, polymethyl methacrylate, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), starch, hydroxypropyl cellulose, regenerated cellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene-diene polymer (EPDM), sulfonated-EPDM, styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), fluoroelastomer, polyacrylic acid, and polymers in which hydrogens of these are substituted with Li, Na, or Ca, or various copolymers thereof, and one of these may be used alone or a mixture of two or more thereof. The above binder may be included in an amount of 1 wt% to 30 wt%, preferably 1 wt% to 20 wt%, and more preferably 1 wt% to 10 wt%, based on the total weight of the positive electrode active material layer. The above-mentioned positive electrode can be manufactured according to a conventional positive electrode manufacturing method, except that the above-mentioned positive electrode active material is used. Specifically, the positive electrode slurry composition, prepared by dissolving or dispersing the above-mentioned positive electrode active material and optionally a binder, a conductive agent, and a dispersant in a solvent as needed, is applied onto a positive electrode current collector, followed by drying and rolling. The solvent may be a solvent generally used in the relevant technical field, such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), isopropyl alcohol, N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), dimethyl formamide (DMF), acetone, or water. One of these may be used alone or a mixture of two or more may be used. The amount of the solvent used is sufficient to dissolve or disperse the positive electrode active material, conductive material, binder, and dispersant in consideration of the coating thickness and manufacturing yield of the slurry, and to have a viscosity that can exhibit excellent thickness uniformity when applied thereafter for manufacturing the positive electrode. Alternatively, the positive electrode may be manufactured by casting the positive electrode slurry composition onto a separate support, peeling the resulting film from the support, and laminating the resulting film onto a positive electrode current collector. membrane The above separator separates the negative electrode and the positive electrode and provides a passage for lithium ions to move. Any separator commonly used in lithium secondary batteries can be used without any particular restrictions, and in particular, one having low resistance to ion movement of the electrolyte and excellent electrolyte moisture retention capacity is preferable.
