Abstract
Description
Electrode production device and battery cell including electrode produced using the same, and battery pack and vehicle including battery cell
[0001] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0105892, filed on August 11, 2023, and all contents disclosed in the specification and drawings of the said application are incorporated herein by reference.
[0002] The present invention relates to an electrode production device and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the battery cell, and more particularly, to an electrode production device capable of improving electrode quality and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the battery cell.
[0003] In general, a secondary battery refers to a battery that can be repeatedly charged and discharged, such as a lithium-ion battery, a lithium polymer battery, a nickel-cadmium battery, a nickel-hydrogen battery, or a nickel-zinc battery.
[0004] Secondary batteries can be classified into cylindrical and prismatic batteries, in which the electrode assembly is built into a cylindrical or prismatic metal can, and pouch-type batteries, in which the electrode assembly is built into a pouch-type case made of aluminum laminate sheet, depending on the shape of the battery case.
[0005] These secondary batteries can be manufactured by housing an electrode assembly including a positive electrode and a negative electrode that are mutually laminated with a separator between them, and an electrolyte material in a case of various shapes, and sealing the case.
[0006] The electrode (positive electrode or negative electrode) of a secondary battery may include a support portion on which a coating layer is formed by pressing an electrode mixture onto the surface of an electrode foil, and a non-support portion on which the coating layer is not formed.
[0007] Meanwhile, the electrode of a secondary battery can be produced through a roll-to-roll process in which an electrode foil having a coating layer formed on its surface is wound and moved around a roll.
[0008] However, when the electrode foil on which the coating layer is formed is transported in a roll-to-roll manner to produce the electrode, wrinkles may occur in the electrode foil (e.g., the uncoated portions of both ends of the electrode foil), and the center of the electrode foil may deviate from the exact position.
[0009] Here, if wrinkles occur in the uncoated portions of both ends of the electrode foil or the center of the electrode foil deviates from the correct position, there is a problem of deteriorating the quality of the electrode.
[0010] Accordingly, the technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide an electrode production device capable of improving electrode quality by preventing the formation of wrinkles in an electrode foil on which a coating layer is formed during transport of the electrode foil, and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and an automobile including the battery cell.

[0019] In one embodiment, the body may further include a suction nozzle formed to suck the electrode foil.
[0020] In one embodiment, the suction nozzle may be formed alternately with the injection nozzle in the main body.
[0021] In one embodiment, the electrode foil may include a position sensing unit installed on at least one of both ends thereof, spaced apart from the fluid injection member.
[0022] In one embodiment, the spray angle of the spray nozzle can be adjusted according to the position of the electrode foil detected from the position detection unit.
[0023] In one embodiment, the position detection unit detects the position of the electrode foil by whether the center of the electrode foil is displaced, and the spraying angle of the spray nozzles located on the left and right sides of the center of the electrode foil among the plurality of spray nozzles can be adjusted.
[0024] In one embodiment, the electrode foil may include a position sensing unit installed on at least one of both ends thereof, spaced apart from the fluid injection member.

[0046] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. Terms or words used in this specification and claims should not be interpreted as limited to their conventional or dictionary meanings, but should be interpreted with meanings and concepts that conform to the technical idea of the present invention based on the principle that the inventor can appropriately define the concept of the term to best explain his or her own invention. Therefore, it should be understood that the embodiments described in this specification and the configurations illustrated in the drawings are only the most preferred embodiments of the present invention and do not represent all of the technical idea of the present invention, and various equivalents and modifications may exist as of the time of this application.
[0047] In the drawings, the sizes of each component or specific parts of that component are exaggerated, omitted, or schematically illustrated for convenience and clarity of explanation. Therefore, the size of each component does not entirely reflect its actual size. If a detailed description of a related known function or configuration is deemed to unnecessarily obscure the gist of the present invention, such description will be omitted.
[0048] The term 'joint' or 'connection' as used herein includes not only cases where one member is directly joined or directly connected to another member, but also cases where one member is indirectly joined or indirectly connected to another member through a connecting member.
[0049] FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view of an electrode production device according to a first embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a side view of FIG. 1, FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A' of FIG. 1, with the roller and fluid supply member omitted, and FIG. 4 is a drawing showing a state in which the injection nozzle is formed at an angle in FIG. 3.
[0050] Referring to Fig. 1, an electrode production device (10) according to a first embodiment of the present invention relates to a device for producing an electrode (anode or cathode) by transporting an electrode foil (600) on which a coating layer (610) is formed. The electrode is a concept that includes both a wet electrode and a dry electrode.
[0051] For example, a wet electrode is manufactured by applying an electrode mixture in a slurry state including a solvent to the surface of an electrode substrate such as an electrode foil (600) to form a coating layer (610), and drying the coating layer (610).
[0052] And, the dry electrode is manufactured through a process of forming a coating layer (610) by pressing an electrode mixture in a powder state (powder mixture) that does not contain a solvent onto the surface of an electrode foil (600). That is, the electrode mixture is mixed without a liquid medium such as a solvent or dispersion medium, and then pressed while passing the electrode mixture in a powder state through a rolling roll.
[0053] Here, the electrode foil (600) may include a holding portion (620) on which a coating layer (610) is formed on the surface, and a non-coating portion (630) on which the coating layer (610) is not formed (e.g., both ends of the electrode foil (600).
[0054] An electrode production device (10) according to a first embodiment of the present invention relates to a device capable of preventing wrinkles from forming on an electrode foil (600) while the electrode foil (600) is being transported. This will be described in detail below.
[0055] Referring to FIG. 1, an electrode production device (10) according to the first embodiment of the present invention may be configured to include a transport member (100), a fluid injection member (200), and a fluid supply member (300).
[0056] The conveying member (100) conveys the electrode foil (600) on which the coating layer (610) is formed. The conveying member (100) may be various, and for example, may include a plurality of rollers (110) to convey the electrode foil (600) in a roll-to-roll manner. However, the conveying member (100) is not limited thereto, but for the convenience of explanation, an embodiment in which the conveying member (100) includes a plurality of rollers (110) will be described below.
[0057] In Fig. 1, the arrow indicates the transport direction of the electrode foil (600). The same applies to Figs. 5 and 8.
[0058] The fluid injection member (200) sprays fluid toward the electrode foil (600) to prevent wrinkles from forming on the electrode foil (600). For example, the fluid injection member (200) sprays fluid toward the electrode foil (600) to prevent wrinkles from forming on the uncoated portions (630) on both ends of the electrode foil (600). Although wrinkles do not form only on the uncoated portion (630), wrinkles can form particularly frequently on the uncoated portion (630), and therefore, prevention of wrinkles on the uncoated portion (630) is important. However, prevention of wrinkles on the holding portion (620) is not excluded.
[0059] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the fluid injection member (200) can be placed under the electrode foil (600). That is, the fluid injection member (200) is placed under the electrode foil (600) and sprays fluid toward the electrode foil (600). Then, when the fluid hits the electrode foil (600), the wrinkles of the electrode foil (600) are straightened.
[0060] Referring to FIG. 1, the fluid injection member (200) may include a main body (210) and a plurality of injection nozzles (220).
[0061] The main body (210) is coupled to the fluid supply member (300) and receives fluid from the fluid supply member (300). The main body (210) may have various shapes, and for example, may have a hexahedral shape as shown in FIG. 1, but is not limited thereto.
[0062] In addition, a plurality of injection nozzles (220) may be formed on the main body (210). When the main body (210) is placed below the electrode foil (600) as in FIGS. 1 and 2, a plurality of injection nozzles (220) may be formed on the upper surface of the main body (210).
[0063] A plurality of injection nozzles (220) are formed on the main body (210) and are provided to inject fluid. Here, referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, the injection angle of the injection nozzle (220) can be adjusted. That is, the injection angle of the injection nozzle (220) can be adjusted toward the electrode foil (600) so that the fluid can be injected to a preset position of the electrode foil (600). For example, the injection angle of the injection nozzle (200) can be adjusted from FIG. 3 to FIG. 4.
[0064] In Fig. 4, the spray angles of the multiple spray nozzles (200) are adjusted so that they all face one direction (the left direction based on Fig. 4). This case is an example of a case where wrinkles are formed only on the left side of the electrode foil (600) based on Fig. 4.
[0065] In addition, if wrinkles are formed only on the right side of the electrode foil (600), the spray angle of the spray nozzle (200) is adjusted so that all of the plurality of spray nozzles (200) face the right side of the electrode foil (600) based on FIG. 4.
[0066] And, if wrinkles are formed on both sides of the electrode foil (600), that is, on both the left and right sides based on FIG. 4, the spraying angle can be adjusted so that the spraying nozzle (200) located on the left is tilted toward the left, and the spraying nozzle (200) located on the right is tilted toward the right.
[0067] In another embodiment, the spray nozzle (200) may be formed and fixed so as to be inclined toward the electrode foil (600). In this case, the spray nozzle (220) is fixed with the inclined shape without adjusting the spray angle. That is, unlike FIG. 4 where all of the plurality of spray nozzles (220) are inclined toward one direction, the spray nozzle (220) on the left side of FIG. 3 may be fixed so as to be inclined toward the left, and the spray nozzle (220) on the right side of FIG. 3 may be fixed so as to be inclined toward the right.
[0068] In this way, when the angle of inclination of the injection nozzle (220) is formed to be adjustable, or when the injection nozzle (220) is formed to be inclined and fixed, the fluid is injected from the center of the electrode foil (600) toward at least one of the ends on both sides, and thereby wrinkles formed on the electrode foil (600) can be immediately straightened.
[0069] Alternatively, in a modified embodiment, the amount of fluid sprayed from the spray nozzle (220) can be adjusted depending on the degree of wrinkles formed on the electrode foil (600). That is, the amount of fluid sprayed from the spray nozzle (220) can also be adjusted correspondingly depending on the amount of wrinkles formed on the electrode foil (600).
[0070] The fluid supply member (300) is coupled to the fluid injection member (200) and supplies fluid to the fluid injection member (200). The fluid supplied from the fluid supply member (300) may be various, and may be, for example, air, but is not limited thereto.
[0071] FIG. 5 is a schematic perspective view of an electrode production device according to a second embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view taken along line B-B' of FIG. 5, with the roller and fluid supply member omitted, and FIG. 7 is a drawing showing the injection nozzle in FIG. 6 formed at an angle.
[0072] The second embodiment of the present invention differs in configuration from the first embodiment, which only includes an injection nozzle (220), in that it additionally includes a suction nozzle (400). Here, any content common to the description of the first embodiment is replaced by the description of the first embodiment. Furthermore, any content applicable to the first embodiment among the portions described in the second embodiment may also be applied to the first embodiment.
[0073] Referring to FIGS. 5 to 7, a suction nozzle (400) for sucking fluid may be formed in the main body (210). Here, the suction nozzle (400) is formed, for example, on the upper surface of the main body (210) and is arranged to suck the electrode foil (600). For convenience of explanation, the following description will be given of a case where the suction nozzle (400) sucks air.
[0074] When only the injection nozzle (220) is formed on the main body (210), the electrode foil (600) may move left and right depending on the size of the electrode foil (600), the amount of fluid injected from the injection nozzle (220), the injection pressure, etc., and the center of the electrode foil (600) may deviate from the preset position. Alternatively, vibration may occur in the electrode foil (600).
[0075] In order to prevent the center of the electrode foil (600) from moving away from a preset position and to prevent shaking of the electrode foil (600), a suction nozzle (400) may be formed in the main body (210).
[0076] Here, referring to FIGS. 5 and 6, the suction nozzle (400) may be formed alternately with the injection nozzle (220) in the main body (210). That is, the injection nozzle (220) may be positioned between a plurality of suction nozzles (400), and the suction nozzle (400) may also be positioned between a plurality of injection nozzles (220).
[0077] As described above, the injection nozzle (220) may be formed to have an adjustable inclination angle (see FIG. 7 in this embodiment), or may be formed to be inclined and fixed to inject fluid from the center of the electrode foil (600) toward both ends.
[0078] And, when the injection nozzle (220) is inclined in one or both directions to spray the fluid, the suction nozzle (400) can be arranged in a vertical direction to suck in air, thereby preventing the center of the electrode foil (600) from being deviated from a preset position and also preventing the electrode foil (600) from shaking. Of course, the injection nozzle (220) can spray the fluid in a state where it is arranged in the same direction as the suction nozzle (400), that is, in a vertical direction, and at this time, the suction nozzle (400) can suck in air.
[0079] Meanwhile, the arrangement of the suction nozzle (400) in a vertical direction is only one embodiment and is not necessarily limited thereto.
[0080] FIG. 8 is a schematic perspective view of an electrode production device according to a third embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 9 is a cross-sectional view taken along line C-C' of FIG. 8, with the roller and fluid supply member omitted, and FIG. 10 is a drawing showing a state in which the spray angle of the spray nozzle is adjusted when the center of the electrode foil in FIG. 9 is detached.
[0081] The third embodiment of the present invention is structurally different from the first or second embodiment in that the spray angle of the spray nozzle (220) is adjusted according to the position of the electrode foil (600) detected by the position detection unit (500). Here, the common content described in the first or second embodiment is replaced with the description of the first or second embodiment described above. In addition, the content applicable to the first or second embodiment among the parts described in the third embodiment can be applied to the first or second embodiment.
[0082] Referring to Fig. 8, the position detection unit (500) may be installed at both ends of the electrode foil (600) spaced apart from the fluid injection member (200). In Fig. 8, a pair of position detection units (500) are installed at each of both ends of the electrode foil (600), but this is not necessarily limited to this, and may be installed at only one of the both ends as needed.
[0083] The position detection unit (500) may be placed in front of the fluid injection member (200) based on the transport direction of the electrode foil (600) (see arrow in FIG. 8). However, the position detection unit (500) may also be placed in the rear of the fluid injection member (200) in FIG. 8.
[0084] The position detection unit (500) detects the position of the electrode foil (600) and detects whether the center (Y2, see FIGS. 9 and 10) of the electrode foil (600) has deviated from the preset position (Y1). To this end, the position detection unit (500) may include various types of sensors.
[0085] And, the spray angle of the spray nozzle (220) can be adjusted according to the position of the electrode foil (600) detected by the position detection unit (500). That is, when the position detection unit (500) detects that the position of the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) has deviated from the preset position (Y1), the spray angle of the spray nozzle (220) is adjusted by the control unit (not shown) connected to the position detection unit (500), and then the fluid can be sprayed from the spray nozzle (220).
[0086] The position detection unit (500) detects the position of the electrode foil (600) by detecting whether the center of the electrode foil (600) is displaced, and the spraying angle of the spray nozzles (220) located on the left and right sides of the center of the electrode foil (600) among the plurality of spray nozzles (220) can be adjusted.
[0087] For example, referring to FIG. 9, since the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) and the preset position (Y1) coincide, the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) is detected by the position detection unit (500) as not having deviated from the preset position (Y1).
[0088] However, if the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) deviates from the preset position (Y1) as shown in Fig. 10 due to various causes, the electrode quality may deteriorate. To prevent this, the injection angle of the injection nozzle (220) is adjusted to tilt to the left with respect to Fig. 10, and the fluid is injected.
[0089] And, as a result, the electrode foil (600) moves to the left, and the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) matches the preset position (Y1).
[0090] That is, the position detection unit (500) detects whether the electrode foil (600) moves left and right during transport of the electrode foil (600) and the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) deviates from the preset position (Y1).
[0091] And, when it is detected that the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) has deviated from the preset position (Y1), the spray angle of the spray nozzle (220) is adjusted, and accordingly, the fluid is sprayed, and the position of the electrode foil (600) is accurately adjusted.
[0092] In this way, the center of the electrode foil (600) can be prevented from moving away from the exact position during transport of the electrode foil (600), and also has the effect of improving the electrode quality.
[0093] Meanwhile, in Fig. 8, both the injection nozzle (220) and the suction nozzle (400) are formed on the main body (210), but only the injection nozzle (220) may be formed on the main body (210). The description of the suction nozzle (400) in Fig. 8 is replaced with the description described above.
[0094] Meanwhile, a control unit (not shown) may be included to adjust the spray angle of the spray nozzle (220) according to the detection signal of the position detection unit (500).
[0095] Fig. 11 is a drawing showing a modified embodiment of Fig. 10, in which the spray amount of the spray nozzle is adjusted when the center of the electrode foil is detached.
[0096] The modified embodiment of Fig. 11 differs from the third embodiment in that the spray amount of the spray nozzle (220) is controlled when the center of the electrode foil (600) deviates from the position of the electrode foil (600) detected by the position detection unit (500). Here, the common content described in the third embodiment is replaced with the description of the third embodiment described above. In addition, the content applicable to the third embodiment among the parts described in the modified embodiment can be applied to the third embodiment.
[0097] The position detection unit (500) is installed at least on one of both ends of the electrode foil (600) and is spaced apart from the fluid injection member (200), and detects the position of the electrode foil (600) to detect whether the center (Y2, see FIGS. 9 and 10) of the electrode foil (600) has deviated from the preset position (Y1), which is common to the third embodiment described above.
[0098] Here, referring to FIG. 11, the spray amount of the spray nozzle (220) can be adjusted according to the position of the electrode foil (600) detected by the position detection unit (500). That is, the position detection unit (500) detects the position of the electrode foil (600), and accordingly, the spray amount of the spray nozzle (220) can be adjusted.
[0099] For example, if the center (Y2, see FIGS. 9 and 10) of the electrode foil (600) deviates significantly from the preset position (Y1), a large amount of spray is adjusted to be sprayed from the spray nozzle (220).
[0100] In addition, when the center (Y2) of the electrode foil (600) deviates slightly from the preset position (Y1), a small amount of spray can be adjusted to be sprayed from the spray nozzle (220). Here, the small amount of spray can be based on the minimum amount that can spread the wrinkles of the electrode foil (600) and prevent shaking.
[0101] Meanwhile, in the modified embodiment of Fig. 11, the spray angle of the spray nozzle (220) can be adjusted. In addition, the control unit (not shown) can be configured to adjust the spray amount of the spray nozzle (220).
[0102] FIG. 12 is a schematic diagram illustrating the configuration of a battery pack including a battery cell including an electrode produced using an electrode production device according to each embodiment of the present invention.
[0103] Referring to FIG. 12, a battery pack (30) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20). Here, the battery cells (20) include electrodes produced using the electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention as described above.
[0104] In addition, the battery pack (30) may further include a pack housing (300) for storing the battery cells (20), and various devices for controlling charging and discharging of the battery cells (20), such as a BMS, a current sensor, a fuse, etc.
[0105] FIG. 13 is a drawing for explaining a vehicle including the battery pack of FIG. 12.
[0106] Referring to FIG. 13, a vehicle (40) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20) or battery packs (30) including electrodes produced using an electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention. Here, the vehicle (40) includes various types of vehicles that are designed to use electricity, such as electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles.
[0107] In this specification, when terms indicating directions such as up, down, left, and right are used, these terms are only for convenience of explanation, and it is obvious to those skilled in the art that these terms may vary depending on the location of the target object or the location of the observer.
[0108] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to limited embodiments and drawings, the present invention is not limited thereto, and those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains may make various modifications and variations within the scope of the technical spirit of the present invention and the equivalent scope of the claims to be described below.
