Description

[0001] Description

[0002] title

[0003] Lighting device, in particular for a motor vehicle

[0004] State of the art

[0005] Radomes, or covers, for automotive radar systems installed in the grille are positioned behind the manufacturer's emblem in the center of the grille. For greater customization, radome illumination is desirable, minimizing radar function.

[0006] Disclosure of the invention

[0007] One aspect of the description relates to the following subject matter: A lighting device, in particular for a motor vehicle, for the visible representation of at least one ornament, the lighting device comprising: a plurality of light sources for generating light, which are arranged along at least one imaginary path, wherein the at least one imaginary path is open at both ends, and wherein the at least one imaginary path encompasses at least one radar-transparent section at least in sections, in particular at a distance from the radar-transparent section;at least one outer light-guiding section, which, with respect to an optical axis of the illumination device, is arranged outside a radar coupling surface of the at least one radar-transparent section for coupling in radar beams, wherein the at least one outer light-guiding section guides light generated and coupled in by the plurality of light sources toward the at least one radar-transparent section; and the at least one radar-transparent section with the radar coupling surface for coupling in the radar radiation and with an output surface for coupling out the coupled radar radiation and for emitting a light distribution representing the at least one ornament, depending on light introduced into an inner light-guiding section of the radar-transparent section by means of the at least one outer light-guiding section.

[0008] Advantageously, the radar-transparent area is made larger, and the light sources can be positioned further away from the optical axis, at least in some sections. This allows particularly powerful radar systems, so-called high-range radar systems, to be used with the lighting system. In addition to higher resolution and thus greater detection range, the aforementioned radar systems and components also offer a significantly larger aperture angle of the radar cone, which in this case passes through the radar-transparent area.

[0009] An HRR (High Range Radar) cone thus does not penetrate the at least one outer light guide section, which, according to the intended path, is not closed but open. Collision-free integration of the lighting system is possible, particularly when the HRR cone terminates at one side, for example, the horizontal upper side of the vehicle, with a housing wall. Even if space-related restrictions prevent the positioning of LEDs in the immediate edge area of the ornament, the proposed solution creates a possibility for providing the desired light distribution for the ornament.

[0010] An advantageous example is characterized in that at least a first group of pairwise assigned first coupling sections of the at least one outer light guide section and first of the plurality of light sources are set up such that a respective light beam coupled in via the outer light guide section is directed into a central region of the at least inner light guide section, wherein at least one second group of pairwise assigned second coupling sections of the outer light guide section and second light sources are set up such that a respective light beam coupled in via the outer light guide section is directed into a region of the inner light guide section which is arranged between the central region and the open end of the imaginary path.

[0011] Advantageously, the decentralized focusing makes it possible to provide the homogeneous appearance of the illuminated at least one ornament.

[0012] An advantageous example is characterized in that the at least one first group of the plurality of light sources and the at least one second group of the plurality of light sources are arranged in groups along the imaginary path.

[0013] This advantageously simplifies the arrangement and control of the light sources.

[0014] An advantageous example is characterized in that the light sources of the at least one first group and the at least one second group alternate at least in sections along the imaginary path.

[0015] Advantageously, the radar-transparent area can be enlarged in this way, since the imaginary path along which the light sources are arranged can be comparatively shorter.

[0016] An advantageous example is characterized in that coupling sections of the at least one outer light guide section with the respectively assigned light source define a mean opening angle of a respective light beam coupled into the inner light guide section, which decreases in particular in sections, in particular in groups, with increasing distance of the respective assigned light source from the optical axis.

[0017] This enables homogeneous illumination of the ornament and, at the same time, enlarges the radar-transparent section surrounding the ornament. An advantageous example is characterized in that coupling sections of the at least one outer light-guiding section, with the respective associated light source, define a focusing of the light distribution coupled into the inner light-guiding section, which becomes more pronounced, particularly in sections, particularly in groups, with increasing distance of the respective associated light source from the optical axis.

[0018] This also enables homogeneous illumination of the ornament and at the same time the radar-transparent section enlarges the ornament.

[0019] An advantageous example is characterized in that the plurality of light sources is configured such that an average luminous intensity emitted by the plurality of light sources increases with increasing distance of the respective light source from the optical axis, in particular in sections, in particular in groups.

[0020] This configuration of the light sources compensates for the longer light path to the ornament in order to ensure the desired homogeneous illumination.

[0021] An advantageous example is characterized in that at least one control device is configured such that an average operating current intensity with which the plurality of light sources are operated increases with increasing distance of the respective light source from the optical axis, in particular in sections, in particular in groups.

[0022] By adjusting the operating current and / or voltage, the longer light path to the ornament can be compensated to ensure the desired homogeneous illumination.

[0023] An advantageous example is characterized by the fact that the imaginary at least one path extends axially symmetrically to an imaginary axis of symmetry that runs perpendicular to the optical axis. This measure advantageously contributes to the desired homogeneous appearance. Furthermore, this symmetry can compensate to a certain extent for the failure of an opposing group of light sources.

[0024] The drawing shows:

[0025] Figure 1 shows a schematic section of a lighting device;

[0026] Figures 2a-d each show a schematic plan view of the lighting device according to an example;

[0027] Figure 3 shows another example of the lighting device in a schematic plan view; and

[0028] Figure 4 shows a coupling section.

[0029] Figure 1 shows a lighting device 2, in particular for a motor vehicle, in a schematic representation in a section BB. The lighting device 2 comprises a plurality of light sources for emitting light and a light-guiding section 200, which, with respect to an optical axis A of the lighting device 2, is arranged, for example, radially outside a radar coupling surface 402 of a radar-transparent section 400 for coupling in radar beams 6 and extends at least in sections along an imaginary path 220, which is arranged at the transition of the section 400 into an inner light-guiding section 406. The imaginary path 220 is, as will be explained below, not closed, but open at least on one side. It can be provided that the path 220 is adapted to a predetermined installation space for the lighting device 2.This also allows the light guide section 200 to be adapted or matched to the installation space. In the example, the light sources 100 are embodied as a respective LED. It can be provided that a plurality of LEDs are arranged on one or more circuit boards 108 and form the light sources 100. Furthermore, it can be provided that an LED strip provides the light sources. LEDs with one or more selected colors or RGB LEDs can be used, whereby the individual light sources of the RGB LEDs can generate the colors directly or at least some of the colors are generated using blue or UV-pumped color converters / fluorescent dyes.

[0030] The circuit board 108 can be designed to be continuous or divided. The LEDs arranged on the continuous and / or divided circuit board 108 can be arranged in groups of varying numbers and with varying or uniform spacing between the LEDs or the groups.

[0031] In the example shown, the light sources 100 are arranged in a plane 110. It may be provided that the LEDs are arranged in different planes.

[0032] The light guide section 200 comprises at least one light coupling surface 202 for coupling in the light of the light sources 100, 100a, 100b, wherein the light guide section 200 guides the coupled light 102 from the light coupling surface 202 to a light transition region 300 between the light guide section 200 and the radar-transparent section 400.

[0033] In addition, the light-guiding section 200 has a light-guiding surface 208 towards the light transition region 300, which is formed by a convex outer contour 206 facing away from an imaginary extension of the optical axis A of the lighting device 2.

[0034] The curvature of the convex outer contour 206 can be adapted to the specified installation space for the lighting device 2. Furthermore, the curvature of the convex outer contour 206 can be provided with different degrees of curvature at corresponding points along the imaginary path 220. In an exemplary embodiment, the light-guiding surface 208 is created by rotating the convex outer contour 206 around the optical axis A.

[0035] The lighting device 2 further comprises the radar-transparent section 400 with the radar coupling surface 402 for coupling in the radar radiation 6 and with a coupling-out surface 404 for coupling out the coupled radar radiation 6 and for emitting a light distribution 106 depending on light 104 introduced into the inner radar-transparent section 400 by means of the light-guiding section 200.

[0036] The radar-transparent section 400 is designed to couple incoming radar radiation into the radar-transparent section 400 at the radar coupling surface 402 and to couple it out at the coupling-out surface 404.

[0037] In the example, radar radiation 6 is generated and / or processed by a radar device or component 8. Radar component 8 is thus arranged relative to radar-transparent section 400 such that radar component 8 receives and / or transmits radar waves through radar-transparent section 400. This means that the radar component implements a transmitting function, a receiving function, or a transmitting and receiving function for radar radiation.

[0038] The radar component 8 receives and / or transmits the radar waves with a magnetic field direction and a field direction of the electric field, wherein a preferred direction V of the at least one heating wire 10 coincides with one of the magnetic field directions of the radar waves or encloses an angle of less than 15°, in particular less than 10°, in particular less than 5°, with the magnetic field direction.

[0039] The radar component 8 receives and / or transmits the radar waves at a wavelength, wherein sections of the at least one heating wire 10 following an imaginary straight line are smaller than the wavelength of the radar waves. The radar-transparent section 400 comprises at least one, in particular a plurality of, heating elements or wires 10.

[0040] The heating wire 10 is depicted in the example as a plurality of heating coils. In the example, the heating coils consist of an electrically conductive material, in particular a metal wire, for example a copper wire and / or nickel wire.

[0041] It is therefore proposed to adjust the luminance to the orientation of the heating wire 10 or its preferred direction V, so as to achieve the highest possible overall coupling efficiency. This reduces the energy required to achieve a specific luminance in the center of the ornament.

[0042] In this example, the radar-transparent section 400 and the light-guiding section 200 are made of a material transparent to visible light, such as PC, PU, PUR, PMMA, or silicone. Different materials can also be used for the respective sections.

[0043] For example, it is provided that the at least one heating wire 10 leads at least partially through the inner light guide section 406 of the radar-transparent section 400.

[0044] The heating wire 10 is thus integrated into the radar-transparent section 400 and is surrounded by material transparent to visible light. The overall height of the illumination device along the optical axis A remains correspondingly in a range of approximately a multiple of A / 2 of the radar radiation 6, and at the same time, a distance 302 of the light transition region 300 is increased. In one example, the radar radiation has a frequency of 76.5 GHz, whereby the overall height of the illumination device 2 is 1.4 mm when polycarbonate is used as the radar-transparent section 400. At multiples of this overall height, the transmission of the radar radiation 6 decreases with increasing order of the multiple.

[0045] In one example, the heating wire 10 is to be arranged in a region between the output surface 404 and the light-transparent layer 408. The heating wire 10 would then be closer to the output surface 404 and would have to penetrate less substrate to achieve the same defrosting times. Consequently, it would then be very thin and thus barely visible. The influence on the alignment of the lighting system would be rather insignificant here. The only sources of inhomogeneity to be compensated for would then be the panel curvature and the LED distance from the target output surface. It can be provided that a surface 12 of the heating wire 10 comprises the color white or a shade of white, in particular in the form of a layer applied to the heating wire 10.

[0046] In the example, the heating wire 10 has a wire diameter of 0.2 to 0.4 mm. The heating wire 10 without the applied layer would be visible through the radar-transparent section 400 when the light source 100, 100a, 100b is switched off. When the light source 100, 100a, 100b is switched on, a shadow of the heating wire 10 without the applied layer would be visible through the radar-transparent section. The applied layer causes the heating wire 10 to be less visible when the light source 100, 100a, 100b is switched off. When the light source is switched on, the applied layer causes light incident on the surface 12 of the heating wire 10 to be scattered in multiple directions, whereby the shadow of the heating wire 10 is less visible, particularly in parts of the heating wire.

[0047] The light sources 100 are operated by means of at least one control device 500.

[0048] The radar-transparent section 400 comprises light-transparent openings 408a, 408b in a transmission-inhibiting layer 408 with reduced light transmittance. In the example, the transmission-inhibiting layer 408 is provided as a lacquer layer. Films or other materials or intermediate layers are also conceivable. The transmission-inhibiting layer 408 can also be opaque.

[0049] By means of the light-transparent openings 408a, 408b in the transmission-inhibiting layer 408, any desired pattern or logo in the sense of the ornament 4 can be depicted, through which the light 102 introduced into the radar-transparent section 400 exits. This results in illumination of the ornament formed by the light-transparent openings 408a, 408b, which is particularly visible in the plan view of the lighting device 2.

[0050] It can be provided that a reflection section 410 of the radar-transparent section 400, oriented in the direction of the coupling surface 202 for coupling the radar radiation 6, comprises at least in sections reflection surfaces 412a, 412b with increased scattering effect for incident light. As a result, the light 102b introduced into the radar-transparent section 400, which impinges on the reflection surfaces 412a, 412b, is scattered, whereby more light rays are directed in the direction of the optical axis A and the light-transparent openings 408a, 408b. Thus, more light rays pass through the openings 408a, 408b. The reflection section region is a reflection region for visible light—not for radar radiation.

[0051] It can be provided that the reflection surfaces 412a, 412b with increased scattering effect are arranged such that the reflected and scattered light passes through the respective associated light-transparent opening 408a, 408b. In the example, the reflection surfaces 412a, 412b are aligned and arranged in alignment with the openings 408a, 408b.

[0052] It can be provided that a partially transparent layer 416, which has a chrome-like appearance, for example, and a higher transmittance than the transmission-inhibiting layer 408, closes the openings 408a, 408b at least in sections. In the example, the partially transparent layer 416 is formed continuously across the illumination device 2. The partially transparent layer 416 can be arranged before or after the transmission-inhibiting layer 408 in the light exit direction. Alternatively, other appearances of the partially transparent layer 416 are conceivable, such as color filters. The partially transparent layer 416 can influence the appearance of the pattern imaged through the openings 408a, 408b even when the light source 100a, 100b is switched off.

[0053] It can be provided that the lighting device 2 is designed as part of a front grille for a motor vehicle, or is integrated or can be integrated into it.

[0054] It can be provided that the at least one heating wire 10 is arranged between the associated light-transparent opening 408a, 408b and the reflection section 410, in particular one of the reflection surfaces 412a, 412b with increased scattering effect.

[0055] It can be provided that the light-guiding region 406 is manufactured separately, at least in sections, in particular as a heating segment. The light-guiding section 406 can include the heating wire 10.

[0056] Figures 2a-d show the illumination device 2 in a schematic top view. For improved clarity, the light beams of the individual groups of light sources 100 used to illuminate the radar-transparent section 400 are shown separately in the figures. The illumination device 2 is operated such that, during normal operation, all of the light sources 100 shown are operated simultaneously. Reference is made below to Figures 2a-d.

[0057] The plurality of light sources 100 are configured to generate light and are arranged along at least one imaginary path 120. The at least one imaginary path 120 is open at its two ends 122, 124 and encompasses the at least one radar-transparent section 400 at least in sections, in particular at a distance from the radar-transparent section 400. The at least one imaginary path 120 extends axially symmetrically to an imaginary axis of symmetry S, which runs perpendicular to the optical axis A.

[0058] The imaginary at least one path 120 is, for example, horseshoe-shaped or coat of arms-shaped.

[0059] According to the opened path 120, a broken-up optical fiber coupling collar in the sense of the at least one outer optical fiber section 200 is provided, which comprises TIR elements or coupling sections 240 that are geometrically differently designed from one another at least in sections (TIR: Total Internal Reflection).

[0060] Such a respective TIR element or coupling section 240 comprises, for example, a concavely curved coupling surface for the light generated by the light source and light guide surfaces adjoining the coupling surface, wherein a distance of at least two of the light guide surfaces opposite one another decreases in the direction of the coupling surface.

[0061] The respective coupling section 240 comprises a catadioptric attachment optic, which is shown schematically in Figures 1 and 2a-d. So-called catadioptric attachment optics are used in the coupling sections. In this case, the light guide is designed, for example, as a parabola in the coupling area. In the area of the apex there is a cylindrical recess, or what remains with such a thin light guide - in extreme cases, a corresponding cut is made in the apex area of the light guide. The area directly in front of the LED is designed as a collecting surface. In this case, the surface is convex. Furthermore, light is coupled into the light guide via the lateral surfaces and is then deflected in the direction of the light guide via the parabolic boundary surface of the light guide. Such a coupling element 240 is sketched as an example in Figure 4.

[0062] Due to the different characteristics of the light coupling sections 240, different areas of the ornament 4 to be illuminated, for example a central area Z or an area X oriented towards the opening of the path 120, are guided with different focuses of the luminous flux to the parts of the logo near which there are no light sources such as semiconductor light sources, LEDs. This enables homogeneous illumination of the emblem or ornament 4 to be illuminated without colliding with the radar cone or without negatively interacting with it. Focusing here is to be understood as reducing the beam divergence of the light beam of an LED. The focused light beam can still be divergent, or with stronger focusing, it can become convergent with object distances that are greater than the component. Focusing in this case does not mean that the light is bundled at a focal point.

[0063] It is provided that at least a first group 600#BF of pairwise assigned first coupling sections 240#BF#1-n of the at least one outer light guide section 200 and first of the plurality of light sources 100 are configured such that a respective light beam coupled in via the outer light guide section 200 is directed into the central region Z of the at least one inner light guide section 406, and wherein at least one second group 600#A+G of pairwise assigned second coupling sections 240#A+G#1-n of the outer light guide section 200 and second light sources 100 are configured such that a respective light beam coupled in via the outer light guide section 200 is directed into the region X of the inner light guide section 406, wherein the region X is arranged between the central region Z and the open end of the imaginary path 120.

[0064] The direction and orientation of the respective light beam in the respective area Z or X is determined by an imaginary central axis of the light beam. An imaginary light cone of the light beam has this imaginary central axis.

[0065] Furthermore, it is proposed that the at least one first group 600#BF of the plurality of light sources 100 and the at least one second group 600#A+B of the plurality of light sources 100 are arranged along the imaginary path 120 in groups connected, that is to say in particular disjointly in groups.

[0066] With regard to the light beams effective in the radar-transparent section 400, it is proposed that the coupling sections 240 of the at least one outer light-guiding section 200 with the respectively assigned light source 100 define a mean opening angle W#AG of a respective light beam coupled into the inner light-guiding section 406, which decreases in particular in sections, in particular in groups, with increasing distance of the respective assigned light source 100 from the optical axis A.

[0067] In one example, it is provided that the coupling sections 240 of the at least one outer light guide section 200 with the respectively assigned light source 100 define a focusing of the light distribution coupled into the inner light guide section 406, which is more pronounced with increasing distance of the respective assigned light source 100 from the optical axis A, in particular in sections, in particular in groups.

[0068] In a further example, it is provided that the plurality of light sources 100 is configured such that an average luminous intensity emitted by the plurality of light sources 100 increases, in particular in sections, in particular in groups, with increasing distance of the respective light source 100 from the optical axis A. For example, light sources with different configurations with respect to their emitted luminous intensity can be used, or the luminous intensity can be adjusted using other measures.

[0069] If the light sources 100 of the groups 600#AG are now activated simultaneously, a largely homogeneous illumination of the logo or ornament 4 to be illuminated is obtained. Should any inhomogeneities remain from the arrangement and design of the light sources 100 and the at least one outer light-guiding section 200, these can be compensated for by inhomogeneous control of the light sources. In one embodiment, it is therefore provided that at least one control device 500 from Figure 1 is configured such that an average operating current with which the plurality of light sources 100 are operated increases with increasing distance of the respective light source 100 from the optical axis A, in particular in sections, in particular in groups. The at least one control device 500 from Figure 1 is configured accordingly for this purpose.

[0070] Groups 600#A, 600#B, and 600#C on the left side of the coat-of-arms-shaped coupling collar or at least one outer light guide section 200 are mirror-symmetrical to groups 600#E, 600#F, and 600#G. The light sources of groups 600#A and 600#G are at the greatest distance from the areas to be illuminated in the logo emblem or ornament 4. These groups 600#A and 600#G receive comparatively more focused TIR elements or coupling sections 240, which target the upper area of the logo, i.e., area X of ornament 4.

[0071] If a logo is not located centrally in the middle of the vehicle but off-center, it is quite conceivable that the light sections 600 are not mirror-symmetrical but completely asymmetrical.

[0072] The aperture angles of the TIR elements for groups 600#A+G are selected to be smaller than the aperture angle of the TIR elements for groups 600#BF so that the luminous flux per LED or light source 100 is more tightly focused, the intensity per channel increases, and the longer optical path length to be managed can be compensated for. Compared to groups 600#A+G, groups 600#B and 600#F are assigned less strongly focusing TIR elements with a larger aperture angle, since the optical path length is shorter here compared to groups 600#A+G, and the luminous flux can be distributed over a larger area of the logo. In this example, groups 600#C+F are given a weaker focus and a larger aperture angle, adapted to the optical path length and the reduced proximity to the output area of the ring or ornament 4 compared to the aforementioned groups 600#AB and 600#FG.The lower LEDs or light sources 100 of group 600#D in the example do not receive any TIR elements in the present example because they are comparatively close to the coupling geometry of the ring or ornament 4 in order to avoid inhomogeneities in the luminance image.

[0073] The light beams L#AG#1-n, schematically depicted as light cones, are provided with the imaginary central axis M#AG#1-n, which indicates the main propagation direction of the associated light within the inner light guide section, as illustrated in the figure using the first light beam of each group as an example. Furthermore, the light beams are provided with a respective aperture angle or angle W#AG.

[0074] Figure 3 shows, in a view similar to Figures 2a-d, that the light sources 100#A#1-3 of group 600#A are arranged alternately with the light sources 100#C#1-3 of group 600#C. Similar to the light sources 100#E#1-5, the light sources 100#C#1-3 of group 600#C emit their light according to respective light beams directed into the central region Z and also include corresponding light coupling sections 240. For reasons of clarity, only the light sources 100#E#3-5 with the associated coupling section 240#E#3-5 are shown in Figure 2.

[0075] In other words, and with reference to the previous figures, the light sources 100 of the at least one first group 600#BF and the at least one second group 600#A+G alternate at least in sections along the imaginary path 120.
