[0024] Optical microscopes are commonly used in various research areas including microbiology, microelectronics, nanophysics, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical research. Optical microscopes use visible light and an assembly of optical lenses to magnify images of small objects. However, such optical microscopes are not portable.
[0025] Therefore, conventional portable microscopy assemblies came into existence. The conventional portable microscopy assemblies are available in the form of external optical attachments to the smartphones or other portable computing devices. But it has several limitations. The external optical attachments for the microscopy functionality have limitations as theyhave limited field of view, are bulky, are not compatible for all digital device, and are not user-friendly for focusing and microscopy. The microscopy performance of the conventional optical attachments varies with respect to different models of smartphones with different quality of cameras. The external optical attachments for smartphones are not user-friendly because the location of the camera varies across smartphones.
[0026] Furthermore, most of the external optical attachments for smartphones have a fixed optical system; hence, it has limitation for focusing of objects of variable sizes on the same plane. The external optical attachment for the microscopic functionality makes it inaccessible to users for qualitative & quantitative estimation of objects.
[0027] Furthermore, some of the objects has ability to emit light rays of specific wavelengths that are characteristic of the respective objects and are therefore useful for qualitative and quantitative analysis of such objects. This said characteristic feature of light is useful in the diagnosis of many pathological samples, for example, a biomarker-dye complex. Most of the external optical attachments for portable microscopy are not affordable.
[0028] Further, conventional optical attachments have a limited resolution for the observing of the micron size of object and the two or three correction lenses. Such attachments are not able to fulfill the high-quality image capturing of objects of micron size.
[0029] In addition, the image captured by the conventional optical devices is processed in a manner that the processed image can be applied for the interpretation of the various sectors. However, due to the lack of high-quality image capturing of objects of micron size, the processed image is not accurate to a level that can be precisely applied for the interpretation of the various sectors.
[0030] Therefore, to overcome the problems / limitations said in the prior art, there is a need to develop microscopy imaging systems having optical microscopy devices for enabling the inbuilt microscopy feature in smartphones and other portable imaging systems and having smart imageprocessing capabilities. In addition to the inbuilt microscopy feature, the features of variable imaging resolution, variable depth of field, variable optical magnification, and wide field of view, but without optical and spherical aberrations are also desirable to be enabled. Furthermore, the inbuilt microscopy feature with the variable optical magnification, and the variable depth of field facilitate in increasing the flexibility to view a wide range of objects using the smartphones and the portable imaging systems. The smartphones and other portable imaging systems with the integrated microscopy feature makes them accessible to users, such as researchers, pupils, and professionals for education purposes, onsite diagnosis, and in qualitative and quantitative analysis of objects.

[0038] Systems and methods of the present subject matter approaches for automated detection, quantification and analysis of objects and further quick interpretation of various sectors such as healthcare, water, food, education, research, microbiology, biotechnology, botany, and agriculture etc. In an example, a microscopy imaging system includes an inbuilt multi-mode microscopy feature of the smartphone with the light guiding element and digital devices in combination with an image processing on cloud orstandalone software. Some of the applications, but is not limited to, of the microscopy imaging system of the present subject matter are in food and water contamination detection, adulteration detection in herb or plant products, size distribution analysis, total cell counting, cell viability testing, automated object detection in the education sector and interactive learning, microbial growth and contamination detection in bioreactors, healthcare diagnosis. The inbuilt multi-mode microscopy such as light field, dark field, and filter field microscopy with an integration of digital database and artificial intelligence and machine learning based image processing provides an onsite, quick, and rapid analysis of an object or a sample.
[0039] In an example implementation, the microscopy imaging system may include a compact optical microscopy device and a processing unit communicatively coupled to the compact optical microscopy device. The compact optical microscopy device provides integrated microscopy in a portable imaging system, such as a smartphone and other devices. The integrated microscopy features include variable depth of field, resolution, field of view, and magnification. The integrated microscopy features can be used for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of micron-size objects that emit the light. The term “micron” herein may be understood as micrometer (pm).
[0040] The compact optical microscopy device allows for inbuilt light field, near field, and filter field microscopy with variable optical magnification, resolution, field of view, and high depth of field microscopy functionality. The compact optical microscopy device of the present subject matter is used in a portable imaging system. The portable imaging system may include, but is not limited to, a smartphone, a mobile phone, a portable computing device, a portable medical device, a portable microscope, or a portable analytical instrument. The portable computing device may include, but is not limited to, a laptop, a netbook, a notebook, a sub-notebook, a tablet computing device, and an Ultrabook computer. The portable medical device may include, but is not limited to, a small pocket size medical device, ananalytical instrument, a diagnosis device, and a quantitative and qualitative analytical instrument. The portable microscope may include, but is not limited to, a pocket size portable microscope and a portable digital microscope device.
[0041] The compact optical microscopy device includes multiple elements, which are sequentially arranged from the object side to the image side for the microscopy functionality in portable imaging systems, such as the smartphones and / or other devices.
[0042] In an example of the present subject matter, the compact optical microscopy device includes an optical lens assembly with eight to sixteen lens elements out of which five lens elements are an objective lens group. The five lens elements of the objective lens group comprise two correction lenses. The multiple lens element in the optical microscopy device provide microscopy features such as variable optical magnification, resolution, field of view, and high depth of field. The optical lens assembly has an optical magnification in a range of about 1 X to about 7.8X, an airy radius in a range of about 0.783 micron to about 23.25 micron, a depth of field in a range of about 2.847 micron to about 338 micron, a numerical aperture in a range of about 0.015 to about 0.438, a half field of view in a range of about 13 degrees to about 70 degrees, and a length in a range of about 5.51 1 millimeter (mm) to about 57 mm. The compact optical microscopy device further includes an image sensor to capture an image of an object through the optical lens assembly. The image sensor may have a pixel pitch in a range of about 0.2 micron to about 6 micron. The image sensor has a wavelength-specific filter or IR filter for light field and filter field microscopy.
[0043] Further, the processing unit of the microscopy imaging system may process the captured image by converting the image to a digitized form. In an example, processing the captured image may include resizing the image to a specific resolution, normalizing pixel values of the image, and augmenting the image data. Common data augmentation techniques include random rotation, flipping, and brightness adjustments. Theprocessing unit may further detect a unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object by analyzing the digitized form of the image using an artificial intelligence and machine learning based model. By processing the captured images, the images in the training set are consistently formatted, normalized to a common range, and augmented to increase the diversity of the data. The pre-processed images thus help the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model to focus on characteristic features during training and improve robustness of the model to variations in the input data.
[0044] The detected characteristic feature may be compared with pre-stored dataset. In an example implementation, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may detect the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object using a common technique called Local Binary Patterns (LBP). LBP is a texture descriptor that represents the patterns formed by comparing an intensity of a center pixel with an intensity of surrounding neighbor pixel. The LBP assigns a binary code to each pixel in an image based on whether an intensity of a neighboring pixel is greater or less than an intensity of the center pixel.
[0045] For example, given an image patch with pixel intensities represented as l(x, y), where (x, y) are the pixel coordinates, and N(i, j) is a set of neighboring pixels, the LBP value at the center pixel (x, y) is computed as follows:LBP(x, y) = Z [s(l(i, j) - l(x, y)) « p] for (i, j) e N(x, y)
[0046] Here, s() is the sign function, and « denotes bitwise left shift, p is a threshold, and the LBP value is a binary number represented in decimal notation.
[0047] In another example implementation, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may detect the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object using deep learning feature extraction performed by convolutional neural networks (CNNs). During the training process, the CNNs learn to automatically extract unique or multiplecharacteristics features from raw images. The CNNs involve convolutional operations and non-linear activation functions. The convolutional operations are performed by convolutional layers in CNNs. The convolutional layers may apply filters (kernels) to the input image to extract the unique or multiple characteristic features. The convolution operation can be mathematically represented as follows:C(x, y) = Z [l(i, j) * K(x-i, y-j)] for (i, j) e N(x, y)
[0048] Here, l(i, j) is the pixel intensity at location (i, j) in the input image, K(x-i, y-j) is the value of the convolutional filter at relative coordinates (x-i, y-j), and N(x, y) is the set of neighboring pixels around position (x, y).
[0049] After the convolution operation, a non-linear activation function (e.g., ReLU - Rectified Linear Unit) is applied element-wise to the convolutional feature maps to introduce non-linearity into the model.ReLU(x) = max(0, x)
[0050] This allows the network to learn complex and nonlinear relationships between the unique or multiple characteristic features. Deep learning-based feature extraction eliminates the need for hand-crafting features, making the image processing more flexible and capable of learning intricate patterns directly from the data.
[0051] For the comparison, the detected characteristic feature is mapped with a relevant parameter, of the object, present in the pre-stored dataset. The unique or multiple characteristic feature may be a feature, for example white blood cells in a blood sample if the object is the blood sample. In an example implementation, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) may be used for mapping detected characteristic feature with a relevant parameter due to their ability to learn hierarchical features from images. Depending on the complexity of the task and the size of the dataset, different CNN architectures such as VGG, ResNet, Inception, or more recent ones like EfficientNet or DenseNet may be selected.
[0052] Based on the comparison, a report may be generated to quantify a category of the detected characteristic feature of the object. In an example implementation, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may quantify a category of the detected characteristic feature of the object using a state-of-the-art CNN architecture, i.e., EfficientNet that achieves impressive performance across various image classification tasks while being computationally efficient. The report is a presentable format indicative of the category to which the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object belongs after the mapping. For example, in case of a blood sample, if the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object after the mapping is indicative of a bacteria type, then the report may quantify the category as bacterial fever.
[0053] In an example, the compact optical microscopy device may include a focusing unit with focusing mechanism for controlled focusing of object at various depth of fields. The focusing unit has a barrel, where the optical lens assembly of the compact optical microscopy device is disposed within the barrel of the focusing unit. The focusing unit is to operate the optical lens assembly for focusing while imaging the object.

The second planar side is opposite to the first planar side. In an example, the compartment may include an inlet for inflow of the sample and an outlet for outflow of the sample.
[0068] In an example, the compact microscopy imaging device may include a second light source to provide light from a second side to the sample in the sample holding unit. In an example, the processing unit 228 may be disposed outside the compact optical microscopy device 102.
[0088] Further, the microscopy imaging system 222 includes interface(s) 230 and memory(s) 232. The memory(s) 232 may further include data which either may be utilized or generated during the operation of the microscopy imaging system 222.
[0090] The microscopy imaging system 222 may further include engine(s) 234. The engine(s) 234 may be implemented as a combination of hardware and programming, for example, programmable instructions to implement a variety of functionalities of the engine(s) 234. In examples described herein, such combinations of hardware and programming may be implemented in several different ways. For example, the programming for the engine(s) 234 may be executable instructions. Such instructions may be stored on a non- transitory machine-readable storage medium which may be coupled either directly with the microscopy imaging system 222 or indirectly (for example, through networked means). In an example, the engine(s) 234 may include a processing resource, for example, either a single processor or a combination of multiple processors, to execute such instructions. In other examples, the engine(s) 234 may be implemented as electronic circuitry.
[0091] The microscopy imaging system 222 may further include data 236. The data 236, on the other hand, includes data that is either stored or generated as a result of functions implemented by any of the engine(s) 234or the microscopy imaging system 222. It may be further noted that information stored and available in the data 236 may be utilized by the engine(s) 234 for performing various functions by the microscopy imaging system 222. It may be noted that such examples are only indicative. The present approaches may be applicable to other examples without deviating from the scope of the present subject matter.
[0092] Further, in the network environment 220, the microscopy imaging system 222 may include the portable imaging system 100 having the compact optical microscopy device 102 as depicted in FIG.1A. The processing unit 228 of the microscopy imaging system 222 is communicatively coupled to the compact optical microscopy device 102. A high-quality image captured by the compact optical microscopy device 102 is further processed by the microscopy imaging system 222.
[0093] In operation, the image sensor 106 may capture an image of an object through the optical lens assembly 104. Due to the configurations of the image sensor 106 and the optical lens assembly 104, the captured image is of extremely high quality. In an example, the captured image may be transmitted to one of an inter device, an intra device, and a cloud device and the received image on one of the inter device, the intra device, and the cloud device may be visually inspected by an expert, such as a qualified medical officer to diagnose the sample for which the image has been captured. Further, the qualified medical officer may suggest remedies in light of the diagnosis. In an example, the received image may be compared with a database having prestored images to diagnose the sample for which the image has been captured. Further, the remedies in light of the diagnosis may be suggested.
[0094] Further, the processing unit 228 may process the captured image by converting the image to a digitized form. The digitized form of the image is readily interpreted by any processing unit for any kind of analysis. In case the processing unit 228 is disposed within the compact optical microscopy device 102, the image gets processed within a single device, such as amobile phone. In case the processing unit 228 is disposed outside the compact optical microscopy device 102, the image gets processed externally and the processed image may be sent back either to the compact optical microscopy device 102 or to any other external device.
[0095] The processing unit 228 may detect a unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object by analyzing the digitized form of the image using an artificial intelligence and machine learning based model. The artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may use the digitized form of the image provided by the processing unit 228 for recognizing parameters in the digitized form of the image. The recognized parameters are indicative of the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object. In an example, processing the captured image may include resizing the image to a specific resolution, normalizing pixel values of the image, and augmenting the image data. Common data augmentation techniques include random rotation, flipping, and brightness adjustments. By processing the captured images, the images in a training set are consistently formatted, normalized to a common range, and augmented to increase the diversity of the data. The pre-processed images thus help the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model to focus on unique or multiple characteristic features during training and improve robustness of the model to variations in the input data. In an example, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may be trained based on the detected characteristic features of the object. Based on such trained artificial intelligence and machine learning based models, helpful applications for image recognition may be created.
[0096] In an example, the processing unit 228 may process a data set through a neural network used as the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model. The data set may pertain to an input data with a data matrix having N features. N features indicate the number of neurons in the data matrix, where each neuron represents a measurable piece of data thatcan be used for learning of the neural network. In an example, the data set may be the digitized form of the image of the object.
[0097] In an example, the neural network is an auto-encoder having an encoder-decoder based deep learning architecture. The encoder-decoder based deep learning architecture is trained successfully using data matrices, for example, in case of printers, completed print jobs may be used for training. For example, the encoder-decoder based deep learning architecture may include long short - term memory (LSTM) units. The LSTM units remember past data by generating a comprehensive summary of sequence in the form of last hidden state representation in reduced dimensional space. The LSTM units may summarize a sequence keeping salient features of all previous layers in the sequence. Based on the summary, the decoder may reconstruct the sequence from the last hidden state representation.
[0098] The auto-encoder may reconstruct an output from the input data through a series of non-linear transformations. During the series of nonlinear transformations, the neural network, such as auto-encoder, learns higher order features from the data set.
[0099] The processing unit 228 may further compare the detected characteristic feature with pre-stored dataset.
[0100] For example, given an image patch with pixel intensities represented as l(x, y), where (x, y) are the pixel coordinates, and N(i, j) is a set ofneighboring pixels, the LBP value at the center pixel (x, y) is computed as follows:LBP(x, y) = Z [s(l(i, j) - l(x, y)) « p] for (i, j) e N(x, y)
[0101] Here, s() is the sign function, and « denotes bitwise left shift, p is a threshold, and the LBP value is a binary number represented in decimal notation.
[0102] In another example implementation, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may detect the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object using deep learning feature extraction performed by convolutional neural networks (CNNs). During the training process, the CNNs learn to automatically extract characteristics features from raw images. The CNNs involve convolutional operations and nonlinear activation functions.
[0103] Here, l(i, j) is the pixel intensity at location (i, j) in the input image, K(x-i, y-j) is the value of the convolutional filter at relative coordinates (x-i, y-j), and N(x, y) is the set of neighboring pixels around position (x, y).
[0104] After the convolution operation, a non-linear activation function (e.g., ReLU - Rectified Linear Unit) is applied element-wise to the convolutional feature maps to introduce non-linearity into the model.ReLU(x) = max(0, x)
[0105] This allows the network to learn complex and nonlinear relationships between the unique or multiple characteristic features. Deep learning-based feature extraction eliminates the need for hand-crafting features, making theimage processing more flexible and capable of learning intricate patterns directly from the data.
[0106] The pre-stored dataset is a dataset stored in the database 224 that include different parameters of an object. For example, if the object is a blood sample, different parameters stored as pre-stored dataset may be a number of red blood cells count for being qualified as a healthy blood sample. For the comparison, the processing unit 228 may map the detected characteristic feature with a relevant parameter, of the object, present in the pre-stored dataset. On determining that the detected characteristic feature is mapped with the relevant parameter of the object, the processing unit 228 may generate a report based on the comparison. In an example implementation, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may quantify a category of the detected characteristic feature of the object using a state-of-the-art CNN architecture, i.e., EfficientNet that achieves impressive performance across various image classification tasks while being computationally efficient. The report is to identify a category of the detected characteristic feature of the object with or without difference or similarity in the detected characteristic feature. For example, if the mapping indicates low count of the red blood cells, then the identified category may be anemia. The category will have different segments depending on the field of application.
[0107] Further, during the operation, the processing unit 228 may transfer data related to the category of unique or multiple characteristic feature of the image to a cloud database. In an example, the cloud database may be further referred when the processing unit 228 performs the mapping.
[0108] In an example, the processing unit 228 may transfer data related to the category of unique or multiple characteristic feature of the image to one of an inter device, intra device, and cloud device using a wired or a wireless communication channel.
[0109] In an example, the microscopy imaging system 222 may include a display unit (not shown), connected to the processing unit, to display the identified category of unique or multiple characteristic feature in the form of one of an image, text, and a report. For example, the display unit may be a screen of the microscopy imaging system 222. The identified category of the unique or multiple characteristic feature displayed by the display unit is shared by the processing unit 228 to one of an inter device, an intra device, and a cloud device using a wired or a wireless communication channel.
[0110] In an example, the microscopy imaging system may include a transmitter (not shown) coupled to the processing unit 228. The processing unit may transmit the generated report via the transmitter to another device.

[0280] The optical microscopy device 2 when embedded inside a portable imaging system 1 enables microscopy feature in the portable imaging system 1 . The image sensor 4 of the optical microscopy device 2 enables high-resolution microscopic features in the portable imaging system 1 . The optical microscopy device 2 may have a resolution of about 0.03 micron to about 6 micron. In other words, the effective resolution after combining with the pixel pitch of the image sensor 4 is about 0.03 micron to about 6 micron. Thus, the optical microscopic device 2 may be used to see micron sized objects, such as objects having size as small as 0.03 micron.
[0281] In an example, the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the image(s) captured through the optical microscopy device 2 may be performed using a conventional algorithm or software.
[0282] FIG. 3B illustrates an optical microscopy device 2, in accordance with another example of the present subject matter. The optical microscopy device 2 of FIG. 3B includes the optical lens assembly, similar to as described for FIG. 2. Further, the optical microscopy device 2 of FIG. 3Bincludes an image sensor 5 which may be similar to the image sensor 4 as described for FIG. 2. Additionally, the optical microscopy device 2 of FIG. 3B includes a focusing unit 6 having a barrel. The optical lens assembly is disposed within the barrel of the focusing unit 6. The focusing unit 6 is configured to operate the optical lens assembly for focusing while imaging an object.
[0283] In an example, the focusing unit 6 has a controlled movement for focusing an object. The mechanism involved in the movement of the focusing unit 6 may include, but is not limited to, a piezoelectric movement mechanism or an electromagnetic movement mechanism. It may be noted that a software or a mobile application may be utilized for controlling the movement of the focusing unit 6 for focusing of an object.
[0284] In an example, a light guiding unit may be placed at a location of a protective element or it can be located between the image sensor and the last lens element or between any lens element of the microscopic lens assembly. The light guiding element may be wavelength specific filter such as dichroic filter, gelatine filter or glass filter or coated polymeric film or composite which can allow to pass the specific wavelength of light in range from 200nm to 700 nm.
[0285] In an example, the portable imaging system 1 in which the optical microscopy device 2 is embedded may provide an auto-focusing feature. The auto-focusing feature provides flexibility for observing objects of different sizes and located at the various distance with high resolution, wide field of view, and without any spherical and optical aberrations. The autofocusing and high-resolution image capturing ability of the optical microscopy device 2 provides more user-friendly portable imaging system for viewing objects without any external attachment which is otherwise conventionally used.
[0286] FIG. 3C illustrates the optical microscopy device 2, in accordance with another example of the present subject matter. The optical microscopy device 2 of FIG. 3C includes the optical lens assembly and the focusing unit6, similar to as described for FIG. 3B. In one example, the optical microscopy device 2 of FIG. 3D may include a light source 3 placed adjacent to the optical lens assembly to emit light such that the emitted light is incident on a sample held within a sample holder 12, when the sample holder 12 is placed over the optical lens assembly. The sample holder 12 may be a transparent chamber that can hold a sample. The sample holder 12 may hold a glass slide 14 on which the sample may be placed. Such an arrangement when the light source 3 is placed adjacent to the optical lens assembly of the optical microscopy device 2 to emit the light such that the emitted light is incident on the sample held within the sample holder 12 is shown in FIG. 17. In an example, the sample holder 12 may be detachably coupled to the optical microscopy device 2. In an example, the e light source 3 may be placed adjacent to the sample holder 12. In an example, the light source 3 is an external light source.
[0287] The sample holder 12 may be comprised of object slides with single or multiple compartments or microfluidic channels for the single or multiple sample analysis for continuous or batch observation. The sample holder 12 may have X-Y direction movement which is controlled manually or automated through the rotating wheel and gear mechanism for fine movement in X- Y direction. The sample holder 12 may include the wavelength-specific coating or filter or polarized filter for passing specific wavelengths of light coming from the object on exposure to the external excitation light. The sample holder 12 may be attached to the smartphone or any digital device through the single arm or two arm clip-on arrangement or magnetic attachment or adjustable screw-based attachment or direct smartphone cover-based arrangement for an attachment to the smartphone etc.
[0288] In an example, the light source 3 may include at least one LED placed at a circumferential boundary of the optical lens assembly towards the object side. The at least one LED may be placed such that the light is emitted in a form of a ring. In an example, the LED may be a white LED,optionally, with diffuser. The white LED may be used to enable light field microscopy. In another example, the LED may be a wavelength-specific LED to emit light of a wavelength in a range of about 200 nm to about 700 nm on the sample held within a sample holder 12. The wavelength-specific LED may be used to enable filter field microscopy.
[0289] In an example, the LED may be placed such that the emitted light is incident on the sample held within the sample holder 12 at an angle in a range of about 5° to about 90° with respect to a planar surface 13 of the sample holder 12.
[0290] In an example, the LED may be placed such that the emitted light is incident on the sample held within the sample holder 12 at an angle in a range of about 48° to about 49° with respect to a planar surface 13 of the sample holder 12.
[0291] In an example, the LED may be placed such that the emitted light is incident on the sample held within the sample holder 12 at an angle of about 48.5° with respect to a planar surface 13 of the sample holder 12.
[0292] The angle of the emitted light with respect to the planar surface 13 is important for total internal reflection of light inside the sample holder 12, specifically for filter field microscopy.
[0293] FIG. 3D illustrates an optical microscopy device 2, in accordance with another example of the present subject matter. The optical microscopy device 2 of FIG. 3D includes the optical lens assembly, the focusing unit 6, and the light source 3, similar to as described for FIG. 3C. Additionally, the optical microscopy device 2 of FIG. 3D includes a light focusing element 10 to direct the light from the light source 3 to the object in the sample holder 12. The light focusing element 10 may be an optical fiber or an optically transparent rod coated with the reflective materials.
[0294] FIG. 3E shows another example of the light focusing element 10 described with reference to FIG. 3D. The light focusing element 10 facilitates in directing the light at an angle in such a way that light is incident on the sample holder 12 at critical angle for the total internal reflection oflight inside the sample holder 12 or inside the glass slide 14 holding the sample.
[0295] FIG. 3F shows an example of a light focusing element 15. The light focusing element 15 is an optical film or sheet which can direct the light coming at different angles from the light source 3 to the object located above the optical microscopy device 2.
[0296] Further, the planar surface 13 of the sample holder 12 may be blackened, as shown in FIG. 3C, FIG. 3D, FIG. 3E, and FIG. 3F, and the light is made incident through the other planar surface of the sample holder 12. [0401] FIG. 16 illustrates a flow chart depicting a method 1600 for processing an image of an object, in accordance with an example implementation of the present subject matter. The method 1600 is described with reference to the microscopy imaging system 222 of FIG. 2A. The object may include micron sized objects, such as objects having size as small as 0.044 micron. For example, the object may include but not limited to a blood sample, dust particles, pollen, water droplets, fungus, spider web silk, smoke particles, bacteria, and viruses.
[0402] At block 1602, the method includes capturing an image of an object. The image may be captured using the image sensor 106 of FIG. 1 A. through the optical lens assembly 104 of FIG. 1 A. In an example, the optical assembly may include eight to sixteen lens elements. In another example, the image sensor may have a pixel pitch in a range of about 0.2 micron toabout 6 micron. In an example, the image sensor may be a camera of a mobile phone.
[0403] At block 1604, the captured image may be processed. In one example implementation, the captured image may be processed by converting the image to a digitized form. In an example implementation, the digitized form is an image made of pixels. The digitized form of the image may be processed by the processing unit 228 of FIG. 2A.
[0404] At block 1606, a unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object may be detected. In one example implementation, the unique or multiple characteristic feature may be detected by analyzing the digitized form of the image using an artificial intelligence and machine learning based model. The unique or multiple characteristic feature may be a feature, for example white blood cells in a blood sample if the object is the blood sample. In an example implementation, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may use the digitized form of the image provided by the processing unit 228 of FIG. 2A for recognizing parameters in the digitized form of the image. The recognized parameters may be indicative of the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the object. For example, the recognized parameters may include a number of white blood cells count in the blood sample. In another example implementation, the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model may be trained based on the detected characteristic features of the object. For example, the number of white blood cells count is fed to the artificial intelligence and machine learning based model. Based on such trained artificial intelligence and machine learning based models, helpful applications for image recognition for example, fever diagnosis may be created.
[0405] At block 1608, the detected characteristic feature may be compared with pre-stored dataset. For the comparison, the detected characteristic feature is mapped with a relevant parameter, of the object, present in the pre-stored dataset. The pre-stored dataset may be a dataset stored in the database 224 of FIG. 2A that include different parameters of an object. Forexample, the different parameters may include a number of red blood cells count for being qualified as a healthy blood sample.
[0406] At block 1610, based on the comparison, a report may be generated to identify a category of the detected characteristic feature of the object with or without difference or similarity in the detected characteristic feature. In an example, if the mapping indicates low count of the red blood cells, then the identified category may be anaemia. In another example, if the mapping indicates low count of the white blood cells, then the identified category may be Leukopenia. The identified category of the unique or multiple characteristic feature may be displayed in the form of one of an image, a text, and a report. In an example implementation, the generated report is transmitted via a transmitter to another device. The transmitter may be coupled to the processing unit 228 of FIG. 2A. In an example implementation, data related to the category of the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the image may be transferred to a cloud database. For example, the cloud database may be further referred to map the detected characteristic feature at block 1608. In another example implementation, data related to the category of the unique or multiple characteristic feature of the image may be transferred to one of an inter device, an intra device, and a cloud device using a wired or a wireless communication channel. For example, one of the inter device, the intra device, and the cloud device using a wired or a wireless communication channel may be further referred to map the detected characteristic feature at block 1608.
