Abstract
Description
Fire detectors and battery packs
[0001] This application claims priority to the Chinese patent application filed with the China Patent Office on September 7, 2023, with application number 202322430337.3. The entire contents of the above application are incorporated by reference into this application. Technical Field
[0002] The present application relates to the field of fire detection technology, for example, to a fire detector and a battery pack. Background Art
[0003] Fire detectors are devices used in fire alarm systems to detect and detect fires. Once a fire occurs, the fire detector can convert fire signals such as temperature, smoke, gas, and radiation light intensity into electrical signals, and immediately send an alarm signal to the fire alarm controller, reminding on-site personnel to quickly report the incident and evacuate in time to minimize losses and avoid disasters. Fire detectors can monitor the temperature, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other data of smoke in the environment with high accuracy. Through data analysis and processing algorithms, they can provide timely and effective early warning of abnormal situations and reduce the occurrence of false alarms. If necessary, the valve output can be driven to execute fire extinguishing, and communication with the electronic control unit (ECU) is maintained in normal working mode.
[0004] Fire detectors, with their mature technology, easy installation, and simplified maintenance, have become an effective means of responding to disasters in various residential, factory, and medical settings. Furthermore, fire detectors are widely used in batteries and other applications. Installing fire detectors within battery packs provides early warning and allows for the implementation of necessary prevention and control measures, effectively preventing accidents caused by thermal runaway. This is crucial for maintaining vehicle and personnel safety.
[0005] However, fire detectors in related technologies are typically installed inside a sealed battery pack. Subsequent maintenance and repairs require opening the sealed structure to replace the fire detector or its components, making the operation cumbersome and complex. A small number of externally mounted fire detectors, due to structural limitations, must separate the protective cover from the fire detector body, exposing the fire sensing component. This can easily be damaged during transportation, rendering the fire detector unusable and posing a significant safety hazard to the battery pack.

[0038] The present application is described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and embodiments. The specific embodiments described herein are merely intended to explain the present application and are not intended to limit the present application. For ease of description, the accompanying drawings only show portions relevant to the present application, not all structures.
[0039] The present application provides a fire detector that can detect the internal conditions of a battery pack and is installed externally, issuing an alarm in a timely manner to avoid disasters or minimize losses.
[0040] The fire detector is not only applicable to battery packs, but also to any enclosed structure that needs to monitor fire. In the following embodiments, for the convenience of description, the fire detector is installed on the outside of the battery pack as an example.
[0041] As shown in Figure 1, the fire detector includes a mounting end cap 1, a fire sensing assembly 2, and a protective cover 3. The mounting end cap 1 is mounted on the exterior of the battery pack body 100 and is removably connected to the battery pack body 100. The fire sensing assembly 2 is removably connected to the mounting end cap 1. The fire sensing assembly 2 is located inside the battery pack body 100 and is capable of sensing smoke inside the battery pack body 100, converting fire signals such as temperature, gas concentration, and radiant light intensity into electrical signals, and then issuing an external warning. By placing the mounting end cap 1 on the exterior of the battery pack body 100, the fire detector can be externally mounted. During maintenance, the fire detector can be directly replaced from the outside, which is not only convenient and quick, but also does not affect the internal structure of the battery pack body 100 during replacement and repair. The mounting end cap 1 is generally manufactured using an injection molding process. To prevent shrinkage during injection molding of the mounting end cap 1, as shown in Figure 2, a stress groove 14 is provided on the mounting end cap 1 to relieve stress and ensure the flatness of the mounting end cap 1. The number of stress grooves 14 can be set according to actual conditions.
[0042] A protective cover 3 is mounted on the side of the mounting end cap 1 where the fire sensor assembly 2 is located. To facilitate inspection and replacement, the protective cover 3 is removably connected to the mounting end cap 1. The protective cover 3 is positioned over the fire sensor assembly 2 and is provided with a detection hole 31, which connects the interior of the battery pack body 100 with the interior of the protective cover 3. Because the fire sensor assembly 2 is extremely sensitive, it is not only susceptible to environmental influences such as dust, but is also susceptible to bumps and knocks during transportation and installation, leading to malfunction or damage. Therefore, the protective cover 3 also protects the fire sensor assembly 2 and prevents external factors from affecting the operation of the fire detector.
[0043] To ensure timely contact between smoke and the fire sensing assembly 2, the aforementioned detection holes 31 are generally provided in a plurality, with the plurality of detection holes 31 being spaced apart. In some embodiments, the detection holes 31 can be provided as circular holes, in some embodiments, as grilles, and in still other embodiments, as shown in FIG1 , the protective cover 3 can be provided with both circular holes and grilles.
[0044] In order to achieve the installation of the protective cover 3 and the mounting end cover 1, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, a second clamping member 13 is protruded on the mounting end cover 1, and a second clamping slot 32 is provided on the protective cover 3. The second clamping member 13 cooperates with the second clamping slot 32 to connect the protective cover 3 to the mounting end cover 1. In some other embodiments, the second clamping slot 32 can also be provided on the mounting end cover 1, and the second clamping member 13 is provided on the protective cover 3. The connection between the protective cover 3 and the mounting end cover 1 is achieved by clamping the second clamping member 13 into the second clamping slot 32. There can be multiple second clamping slots 32 and second clamping members 13. The greater the number, the more stable the connection between the protective cover 3 and the mounting end cover 1.
[0045] To transmit information and issue warning signals to the outside world, the fire detector also includes an external connection assembly 4. As shown in Figures 1 and 7, external connection assembly 4 includes a wiring harness 41, which is configured to connect to an external circuit. A terminal 8 is provided at the first end of wiring harness 41, which is connected to the fire sensing assembly 2. The second end of wiring harness 41 is connected to an external circuit. In some embodiments, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, a wire entry hole 11 is provided on the mounting end cap 1, through which terminal 8 is connected to the fire sensing assembly 2.
[0046] In order to prevent the fire detector from being soaked in water and causing the fire detector to fail, the fire detector is also provided with waterproof measures. As shown in Figure 1, the above-mentioned external connection component 4 also includes a waterproof connector 42. The waterproof connector 42 is arranged on the wiring harness 41 and is located at the opening of the wire inlet 11. The waterproof connector 42 includes a wiring terminal and two adjustable waterproof parts threadedly connected to the wiring terminal. The adjustable waterproof parts are configured to be able to adjust the size of the opening at their own ports to isolate liquid from entering the interior of the wiring terminal. In some embodiments, the wire inlet 11 is a threaded hole, and the waterproof connector 42 can be threadedly connected to the wire inlet 11. The waterproof connector 42 is a common component well known in the mechanical field, so its specific structure will not be described in detail in this embodiment.
[0047] When a wiring harness 41 needs to be waterproofed, it is necessary to first disconnect the wiring harness 41 by cutting or other means. The disconnected wiring harness 41 forms two breaks, and a terminal is connected to each break. The two terminals can be plugged together to reconnect the wiring harness 41. Then, an adjustable waterproof component is passed through the wiring harness 41 and tightened to securely connect it to the side of the terminal away from the break. The opening size of the adjustable waterproof component is adjusted so that it is tightly wrapped around the outside of the wiring harness 41, thereby achieving the effect of waterproofing the wiring harness 41 at the wire inlet 11.
[0048] To further enhance the waterproofing of the cable entry hole 11 and prevent interference with the fire sensor assembly 2 on the other side of the mounting end cap 1, a first seal 9 is provided between the waterproof connector 42 and the mounting end cap 1. As shown in Figure 8, this first seal 9 ensures the fire detector's sealing performance during normal use. In some embodiments, the first seal 9 can be a sealing gasket. In other embodiments, the first seal 9 can also be a sealing pad, sealant, or the like. The type of first seal 9 can be selected based on requirements and usage conditions, as long as it achieves its sealing function.
