Description

PROCESS FOR SKIN CAREFIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a process of treating skin, comprising the application of a composition disclosed in the present invention, which provides improved transforming sensory and good stability, a process of preparing a cosmetic product comprising a composition as disclosed in the present invention, as well as non-therapeutic uses of the composition according to the present invention, in particular for treating skin.BACKGROUND

[0002] Skin acts as a natural barrier between internal and external environments and therefore plays an important role in vital biological functions such as protection against mechanical and chemical injury, micro-organisms, and ultraviolet damage. The health and appearance of skin, however, can deteriorate due to environmental factors, genetic makeup, nutrition, and sun exposure.

[0003] Transforming sensory together with stability are sought as one of the most desirable properties in the cosmetic / personal care industry.

[0004] In addition, the formulation of environmentally-friendly cosmetic products, which are designed and developed considering environmental issues, is becoming a major goal in an effort to meet global challenges.

[0005] It is therefore essential to propose more sustainable compositions to address these environmental concerns.

[0006] In this context, it is important to develop new cosmetic compositions with a better carbon footprint, particularly by promoting the use of renewable raw materials and / or materials with a good index of naturalness and / or materials of natural origin and, more particularly, materials of plant origin while reducing the use of compounds of petrochemical origin.

[0007] As such, consumers desire new and improved compositions, which is more sustainable and can provide personal care / makeup products with improved transforming sensory with good stability.

[0044] Pectins are linear polymers of α-D-galacturonic acid (at least 65%) linked in positions 1 and 4 with a certain proportion of carboxylic groups esterified with a methanol group. About 20%of the sugars constituting the pectin molecule are neutral sugars (L-rhamnose, D-glucose, D-galactose, L-arabinose, D-xylose) . L-Rhamnose residues are found in all pectins, incorporated into the main chain in positions 1, 2. Uronic acid molecules bear carboxyl functions. This function gives pectins the capacity for exchanging ions, when they are in COO-form. Divalent ions (in particular calcium) have the capacity of forming ionic bridges between two carboxyl groups of two different pectin molecules. In the natural state, a certain proportion of the carboxylic groups are esterified with a methanol group. The natural degree of esterification of a pectin may range between 70% (apple, lemon) and 10% (strawberry) depending on the source used. Using pectins with a high degree of esterification it is possible to hydrolyse the- COOCH3 groups, so as to obtain weakly esterified pectins. Depending on the proportion of methylated or non-methylated monomers, the chain is thus more or less acidic. HM (high-methoxy) pectins are thus defined as having a degree of esterification of greater than 50%, and LM (low-methoxy) pectins are defined as having a degree of esterification of less than 50%. In the case of amidated pectins, the-OCH3 group is substituted with a -NH2 group. Pectins are especially sold by the company Cargill under the name UnipectineTM, by the company CP-Kelco under the name Genu, and by Danisco under the name Grinsted Pectin.

[0045] Carrageenans are anionic polysaccharides constituting the cell walls of various red algae (Rhodophyceae) belonging to the Gigartinacae, Hypneaceae, Furcellariaceae and Polyideaceae families. They are generally obtained by hot aqueous extraction from natural strains of said algae. These linear polymers, formed by disaccharide units, are composed of two D-galactopyranose units linked alternately by α (1, 3) andβ (1, 4) bonds. They are highly sulfated polysaccharides (20-50%) and the α-D-galactopyranosyl residues may be in 3, 6-anhydro form. Depending on the number and position of sulfate-ester groups on the repeating disaccharide of the molecule, several types of carrageenans are distinguished, namely: kappa-carrageenans, which bear one sulfate-ester group, iota-carrageenans, which bear two sulfate-ester groups, and lambda-carrageenans, which bear three sulfate-ester groups. Carrageenans are composed essentially of potassium, sodium, magnesium, triethanolamine and / or calcium salts of polysaccharide sulfate esters. Carrageenans are sold especially by the company SEPPIC under the name by the company Gelymar under the names and by the company Cargill, under the names SatiagelTM and SatiagumTM, and by the company CP-Kelco under the names  and

[0046] Chitosan is a linear polysaccharide composed of randomly distributed β- (1→4) -linked D-glucosamine (deacetylated unit) and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (acetylated unit) . It is made by treating the chitin shells of shrimp and other crustaceans with an alkaline substance, such as sodium  hydroxide.

[0047] Preferably, the second polysaccharides are present in an amount ranging from about 0.01 wt. %to about 5 wt. %, preferably from about 0.02 wt. %to about 3 wt. %, or from about 0.05 wt. %to about 1 wt. %, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0048] Preferably, the weight ratio of the first polysaccharides to the second polysaccharides ranges from about 5: 1 to about 1: 5, preferably from about 3: 1 to about 1: 3, even from about 2: 1 to about 1: 2, or even about 1: 1, particularly ranges from about 1: 1 to about 1: 5, preferably from about 1: 2 to about 1: 4, or even from about 1: 2 to about 1: 3.

[0114] Table 1

[0115] II. Evaluation of the invention and comparative compositions

[0116] 1. Rheology characterizations

[0117] The rheology was measured by using an instrument for measuring rheology with Rheology Test Machine MCR301 Anton paar, Spindle code model: cc027.

[0118] Test model: amplitude sweep

[0119] shear strain: 0.01~200%

[0120] Shear rate: 10 s-1

[0121] K= (G0'-G1')  / γ

[0122] ΔG=G0'-G0”

[0123] G0': the initial storage modulus

[0124] G0”: the initial lost modulus

[0125] G1': the storage modulus when G’ and G” curves start to cross.

[0126] γ: shear stress.

[0127] The stability was determined by using centrifugal technique. Weigh 10g of each composition, then put each composition in a centrifuge with centrifugation at 900rcf for 1 hour. Then take each composition out of the centrifuge and observe each composition. Ifthere is no water separation, the composition is evaluated as “stable” , otherwise, it is evaluated as “not stable” . Here, the term “water separation” means the composition system  isn’t stable, water phase is at least partially separated out of the composition.

[0128] The present invention and comparative compositions were evaluated and the test results were shown in Table 2 as follows.

[0129] Table 2: Test results

[0130] K value and ΔG value can be used to evaluate transforming sensory. The higher values of K (K= (G0'-G1')  / γ) and ΔG (ΔG=G0'-G0”) are, the more obviously improved transformative sensory and stability obtained.

[0131] The compositions are considered as acceptable if they have a value of K greater than 2 and a value of ΔG greater than 10.

[0132] All compositions of the invention are considered as acceptable and have good transforming sensory and stability.

[0133] As for the Cep1, the compositions Cep1 only including the component (a) first polysaccharide without the component (b) second polysaccharides, has worse rheology characterizations, and is not considered as acceptable, compared to the compositions according to the present invention (e.g., Examples 1-3) .

[0134] As for the Cep2, the composition Cep2 only including the component (b) second polysaccharides without the component (a) first polysaccharide has worse stability and is not considered as acceptable, compared to the compositions according to the present invention (e.g., Examples 1-3) .

[0135] As for the Cep3, the composition Cep3 including the component (a) first polysaccharide and a polysaccharide (that is not a second polysaccharides according to the present invention) without the component  (b) second polysaccharides, has worse rheology characterizations, and is not considered as acceptable, compared to the compositions according to the present invention (e.g., Examples 1-3) .

[0136] As for the Cep4, the composition Cep4 including the component (b) second polysaccharides and a polysaccharide (that is not a first polysaccharides according to the present invention) without the component (b) first polysaccharides, has worse rheology characterizations and worse stability, and is not considered as acceptable, compared to the compositions according to the present invention (e.g., Examples 1-3) .

[0137] That means the combination of the present first polysaccharides and the second polysaccharides disclosed in the present invention shown synergy effects, having both improved stability (e.g., after centrifugation, there are no separation) and improved transformative sensory (having both higher K and ΔG values) .

[0138] III. Conclusion

[0139] The combination of the present first polysaccharides and the second polysaccharides disclosed in the present invention is superior in terms of beneficial properties, e.g., improved stability and transforming sensory, over the comparative one. In addition, compositions of the present inventions are more sustainable.

[0140] All ranges and values disclosed herein are inclusive and combinable. For examples, any value or point described herein that falls within a range described herein can serve as a minimum or maximum value to derive a sub-range, etc.

[0141] All publications and patent applications cited in this specification are herein incorporated by reference, and for any and all purposes, as if each individual publication or patent application were specifically and individually indicated to be incorporated by reference. In the event of an inconsistency between the present invention and any publications or patent application incorporated herein by reference, the present invention controls.
