[0052] As illustrated in figures la, lb, 1c and Id a power track system 100 may comprise a first elongated track section 101.

[0053] The first elongated track section 101 has a mounting rail 150 that is configured to power a device 151 when that device 151 is mounted to the mounting rail 150. The device 151 can also be removed from the mounting rail 150.

[0054] The mounting rail 150 is further configured such that a device can be mounted at any position along the mounting rail 150, and that the device can be repositioned along the mounting rail 150 when mounted. Whether or not a specific device can actually be mounted at any position and be repositioned depends on the size and shape of the device.

[0055] For example, a device that is shaped such that it occupies the full mounting rail 150 when mounted can obviously not be mounted at any position, nor can it be repositioned. However, this of course does not mean that the mounting rail 150 would not be able to let devices be mounted at any position and be repositioned along the mounting rail 150.

[0056] One example of such a device that can be powered when mounted to the mounting rail 150 is a light source, for example a light emitting diode (LED) light source that may be an elongated light strip or in the form of one or more discrete light sources distributed along the mounting rail 150 of the first elongated track section 101.

[0057] The power track system 100 further comprises a first connector unit 102 and a second connector unit 103. Each connector unit 102, 103 comprises a central section 121 configured to be suspended from a surface 10, for example a ceiling.

[0058] Each connector unit 102, 103 comprises a rotatable section 122, 123 configured to be rotatable in relation to the central section 121. The rotatable section 122, 123 of each of the connector units 102, 103 is connected to a respective end 135, 136 of the first elongated track section 101.

[0059] The rotatable section 122, 123 of the first connector unit 102 and / or the rotatable section 122, 123 of the second connector unit 103 are / is configured to provide electrical connection between the device 151, when mounted in the elongated track section 101, and the central section 121.

[0060] The central section 121 may be configured to receive electric power from a power source, e.g. via an electric lead 110, and configured to provide received electric power to conductors 186 arranged in the mounting rail 150 of the first elongated track section 101. Figure la illustrates an example configuration of a power track system 100 comprising three elongated track section 101, 131 and 132. It is however to be noted that a minimal system may comprise only the first elongated track section 101 and a connector unit connected at each end 135, 136. Such connector units may thus comprise the central section 121 and only one rotatable section 122 / 123.

[0061] A power track system comprising a plurality of elongated track sections 101, 131, 132 and two-way connector units 102, 103 configured to allow rotation around a single rotation axis 160 is thus illustrated in figure la.

[0062] The first elongated track section 101 together with a second elongated track section 131 are configured to mount a powered device 151. As illustrated in figures lb and lc, the first connector unit 102 comprises a first rotatable section 122 connected to the first elongated track section 101 and a second rotatable section 119 connected to the second elongated track section 131. As illustrated, the first rotatable section 122 and the second rotatable section 119 are configured to rotate around a first rotation axis 160 directed along the direction of elongation of the first elongated track section 101. As exemplified, a third elongated track section 132 may be connected to the first elongated track section 101 via the second connector unit 103 having rotatable sections 123, 118 and a central section 121 and configured to rotate around the first rotation axis 160.

[0063] As schematically illustrated in figure 2, and with continued reference to figure ld, some embodiments of the power track system may comprise elongated track sections that are rotatable around two different axes. Hence, some embodiments comprise a first elongated track section 101 and a second elongated track section 131, each elongated track section 101, 131 being configured to mount a powered device 151. The first connector unit 102 comprises a first rotatable section 122 connected to the first elongated track section 101 and a second rotatable section 119 connected to the second elongated track section 131. The first rotatable section 122 is configured to rotate around a first rotation axis 160 and the second rotatable section 119 is configured to rotate around a second rotation axis 161 directed along the direction of elongation of the second elongated track section 131. The second rotation axis is different than the first rotation axis 160.

[0064] As schematically illustrated in figure 3, and with continued reference to figure Id, some embodiments of the power track system may comprise elongated track sections that are rotatable around two different axes and that comprise connector units having three or more rotatable sections. Hence, some embodiments comprise, in addition to the first and second elongated track sections 101, 131, a third elongated track section 171 configured to mount a powered device 151. In such embodiments, the first connector unit 102 may comprise a third rotatable section 124 connected to the third elongated track section 171, and wherein the third rotatable section 124 is configured to rotate around a second rotation axis 161 directed along the direction of elongation of the third elongated track section 171, the second rotation axis 161 being different than the first rotation axis 160. In variations of such embodiments, three elongated track sections are rotatable around three different axes, for example as indicated in figure 5a where a third rotation axis 162 is exemplified together with a first and a second rotation axis 160, 161. The third rotatable section 124 may thus be configured to rotate around this third rotation axis 162 directed along the direction of elongation of the third elongated track section 171, the third rotation axis 162 being different than the first rotation axis 160 and different than the second rotation axis 161.

[0065] As schematically illustrated in figure 4, and with continued reference to figure Id, some embodiments of the power track system may comprise elongated track sections that are rotatable around two different axes and that comprise connector units having four rotatable sections. Hence, some embodiments comprise, in addition to the first and second elongated track sections 101, 131, a third elongated track section 171 and a fourth elongated track section 172 configured to mount a powered device 151. In such embodiments, the first connector unit 102 comprises a third rotatable section 124 connected to the third elongated track section 171 and a fourth rotatable section 125 connected to the fourth elongated track section 172. The third rotatable section 124 and the fourth rotatable section 125 are configured to rotate around a second rotation axis 161 directed along the direction of elongation of the third elongated track section 171, the second rotation axis 161 being different than the first rotation axis 160. In variations of such embodiments, four elongated track sections are rotatable around three different axes, for example as indicated in figure 5a where a third rotation axis 162 is exemplified together with a first and a second rotation axis 160, 161. The first, second and third rotatable sections 122, 119, 124 may thus be configured to rotate around the first and second rotation axes 160, 161, while the fourth rotatable section 125 may be configured to rotate around this third rotation axis 162 directed along the direction of elongation of the fourth elongated track section 172. The third rotation axis 162 is different than the first rotation axis 160 and different than the second rotation axis 161. In further variations of such embodiments, four elongated track sections are rotatable around four different axes, for example as indicated in figure 5b where a fourth rotation axis 163 is exemplified together with a first, second and third rotation axis 160, 161, 162. The first, second, third and fourth rotatable sections 122, 119, 124, 125 may thus be configured to rotate around a respective rotation axis 160, 161, 162, 163. The third rotation axis 162 is directed along the direction of elongation of the third elongated track section 171, the third rotation axis 162 being different than the first rotation axis 160 and different than the second rotation axis 161. The fourth rotation axis 163 is directed along the direction of elongation of the fourth elongated track section 172, the fourth rotation axis 163 being different than the first rotation axis 160 and different than the second rotation axis 161 and different than the third rotation axis 162.

[0066] Although the embodiments illustrated in figures 2, 3 and 4 are examples where the axes are perpendicular, it is to be noted that any one of the first, second, third and fourth rotation axes 160, 161, 162, 163 may be directed along a direction that is separated from a direction of any other of the first, second, third and fourth rotation axes 160, 161, 162, 163 by an angle, a, 180 in the interval 0°<a<180°.

[0067] In all embodiments described herein, any of the first rotatable section 122, the second rotatable section 119, the third rotatable section 124 and the fourth rotatable section 125 may be configured to rotate 360° around its respective axis 160, 161. Similarly, in all embodiments, it is to be pointed out that the rotatable sections 122, 119, 124, 125 of the connector units 102, 103 may form integral parts of respective ends of the elongated track sections 101, 131, 171, 172 and that these are rotatable with respect to the central section 121.

[0068] Although many embodiments described herein are illustrated with cylindrical track sections having a circular cross-section, other cross-section shapes are possible. In other words, the expression “cylindrical” is not to be interpreted narrowly as implying a circular cylindrical shape, but include shapes such as a prism shape having non-curving walls.

[0069] For example, as indicated in figure 6, elongated cylindrical track sections such as the first elongated cylindrical track section 101, and associated rotatable section 122, may have a rectangular cross-section.

[0070] In some embodiments, as schematically illustrated in figures 7a and 7b, any of the elongated track sections, in figure 7a exemplified by elongated track section 101, may comprise a plurality of sub-sections 101a, 101b, 101c, wherein each sub-section 101a, 101b, 101c is configured to rotate around a rotation axis 164 independently in relation to each other. The rotation axis 164 is directed along the direction of elongation of the elongated track section 101. In figure 7b, interconnecting flanges 181, 182 that define a circular channel 183 allow rotation between sub-sections 101a and 101b while allowing electrical connectors 186 to pass through the channel 183. As mentioned above in connection with figure la and figure Id, any of the elongated track sections 101, 131, 132, 171, 172, in figure 8 and figures 9a-d exemplified with the elongated track sections 131 and 101, has a mounting rail 150 extending along the direction of elongation of said any of the elongated track sections 101, 131, 132, 171, 172. The mounting rail 150 may have an opening that comprises any of reflective side walls 152, a lens 153, a diffuser 154, a collimating array 155 in the form of, e.g., a series of baffles, and an opaque cover 156. Such embodiments allow a great deal of design freedom when determining how light provided by the light source 151, provided with electric power via conductors 186, is to be collimated, focused or controlled in other manners. Figures 10a and 10b illustrate an example of how the elongated track sections may be arranged with electric power connectors 186 and how these may be interconnected via the central section 121. Figure 10a shows elongated track sections 101 and 131, connected via the central section 121 of connector unit 102. Figure 10b illustrates in more detail the various electrical components. Hence, in various embodiments, the central section 121 may comprise a conductive slip ring 191a, 191b, 193a, 193b and any of the first rotatable section 122, the second rotatable section 119, the third rotatable section 124 and the fourth rotatable section 125 may comprise a conductive pickup pin 192a, 192b, 194a, 194b.
