Description

Heat exchangers and controllers Technical Field

[0001] The present application relates to the field of heat dissipation structures. More specifically, the present application relates to a heat exchanger that is designed to provide more uniform heat dissipation capabilities. The present application also relates to a controller that includes the above-mentioned heat exchanger. Background Art

[0002] Motor controllers typically include one or more power electronic devices, such as IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors). These devices generate significant heat during operation. A heat exchanger can be used to carry this heat away. The heat exchanger can use a working fluid to conduct heat and has a certain working surface. What is desired is a roughly uniform heat absorption capacity across the entire working surface. However, since the working fluid is continuously heated as it flows over the working surface, the working fluid's own heat absorption capacity will continue to decrease, and at the same time, the flow rate of the working fluid can be reduced to compensate for the decrease in heat absorption capacity.

[0003] One method for reducing the flow rate of the working fluid is to use a spoiler. A spoiler can be composed of multiple layers, with the flow channels of adjacent layers forming angles with each other. In existing spoilers, this angle increases continuously along the working surface along the flow direction of the working fluid. Consequently, the spoiler has a non-uniform structure.

[0004] Summary of the Invention

[0005] One aspect of the present application is to provide a heat exchanger that provides uniform heat conduction capacity. Another aspect of the present application is to provide a controller that includes the above-mentioned heat exchanger.

[0006] The purpose of this application is achieved through the following technical solutions:

[0007] A heat exchanger comprising:

[0008] A housing comprising: a heat dissipation surface, an inlet, an outlet, and a cavity located inside the housing, wherein the inlet and the outlet are in fluid communication with the cavity;

[0009] Wherein, between the inlet and the outlet, the cavity comprises:

[0010] a heat dissipation region having upstream and downstream fluid connections with the inlet and the outlet, respectively, wherein the heat dissipation surface is located at an outer surface of the housing and is positioned proximate to the heat dissipation region; and

[0011] The bypass area extends along the inner wall of the cavity, and is in fluid communication with the inlet at its upstream and merges into the heat dissipation area at its downstream; wherein the cross-sectional size of the bypass area gradually decreases along the flow path of the working fluid.

[0012] In the above-mentioned heat exchanger, optionally, a spoiler is also included, which is arranged within the heat dissipation area and includes multiple layers, each layer is arranged in sequence along the flow path of the working fluid, and the flow channels of adjacent layers form a single predetermined angle with each other, so that the working fluid flowing through the heat dissipation area travels through the spoiler.

[0013] In the above heat exchanger, optionally, the housing includes a first part and a second part, the inlet and the outlet are provided on the first part, the first part forms a recessed portion, and the recessed portion surrounds the cavity; the second part is attached to the first part, and together they surround the cavity, wherein the second part includes a flat plate-shaped portion, the flat plate-shaped portion surrounds the cavity and includes a heat dissipation surface;

[0014] The spoiler includes a first surface, a second surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface, wherein the first surface and the second surface face the first portion and the second portion of the housing, respectively;

[0015] In this case, in the flow direction of the working fluid, the cross-sectional size of the bypass region decreases in a tapering or step-shaped manner.

[0016] In the above heat exchanger, optionally, the bypass region is located at one or more of the following positions:

[0017] at the first side and / or the second side of the spoiler, between the spoiler and the first portion of the housing;

[0018] at a first surface of the spoiler, between the spoiler and the first portion of the housing;

[0019] at a second surface of the spoiler, between the spoiler and the second portion of the housing; or

[0020] within at least a portion of the spoiler.

[0021] In the above heat exchanger, optionally, when the bypass area is positioned within at least a portion of the spoiler, the inner wall of the first part or the second part is configured to be tapered or stepped, and the outer contour of the spoiler is configured to match the inner wall of the first part or the second part.

[0022] In the above heat exchanger, optionally, the housing further includes a protrusion, the protrusion extending from the housing and passing through the bypass area, and a distal end of the protrusion abuts against the spoiler.

[0023] In the above heat exchanger, optionally, the predetermined angle is between 5 degrees and 30 degrees.

[0024] In the above heat exchanger, optionally, the outer contour of the first surface and / or the second surface of the spoiler is configured as one of the following shapes: rectangle, trapezoid, prism, triangle, pentagon, hexagon or a combination thereof, the spoiler is attached to the first part and the second part by brazing, and the length of the first side surface and the second side surface is between 2 mm and 10 mm.

[0025] A controller comprising:

[0026] one or more electronic devices; and

[0027] In the above-mentioned heat exchanger, the heat dissipation surface of the heat exchanger shell is connected to the electronic device and establishes thermal contact. The working fluid flows along the heat dissipation area and takes away the heat generated by the electronic device during operation.

[0028] In the above controller, optionally, it further includes:

[0029] a heat conducting plate disposed between the housing and the electronic device, the heat conducting plate establishing thermal connection with both the housing and the electronic device to transfer heat; and

[0042] In addition, it should be pointed out that for any single technical feature described or implied in the embodiments of this document or any single technical feature shown or implied in the accompanying drawings, these technical features (or their equivalents) can be further combined to obtain other embodiments not directly mentioned in this document.

[0043] It should be noted that in different drawings, the same reference numerals denote the same or substantially the same components.

[0044] Figure 1 is an exploded view of one embodiment of a controller of the present application. The controller may include a heat exchanger 10, one or more electronic components 400, and a heat conducting plate 500. Furthermore, the heat exchanger 10 may include a housing 100 and a spoiler 200. The housing 100 may also include a first portion 100a and a second portion 100b.

[0045] The housing 100 may include a heat dissipation surface 102, an inlet 110, an outlet 120, and a cavity 101 located therein. The inlet 110 and the outlet 120 are each connected to the cavity 101 to define a flow path through the housing 100. In one embodiment, a working fluid may flow through the housing 100 along the flow path. In one embodiment, the working fluid may be a fluid used for heat exchange, such as air, ethylene glycol, water, or a mixture thereof. In one embodiment, the working fluid enters the housing 100 through the inlet 110, flows through the cavity 101, and exits the housing 100 through the outlet 120. The inlet 110 and the outlet 120 may be disposed on a first portion 100a of the housing 100, and the first portion 100a of the housing 100 may be recessed to define the cavity 101 therein. In other words, the first portion 100a of the housing 100 may include a recessed portion that surrounds the cavity 101. The second portion 100b may be attached to the first portion 100a to collectively surround the cavity 101. The second portion 100b includes a flat plate-shaped portion that can be used to surround the cavity 101. The flat plate-shaped portion refers to a portion of the housing that has a generally planar shape. In one embodiment, the heat dissipation surface 102 is located on the flat plate-shaped portion of the second portion 100b. In one embodiment, the heat dissipation surface 102 is located on the outer surface of the housing 100. The housing 100 can be made of a thermally conductive material, such as an aluminum alloy or a copper alloy. In one embodiment, the first portion 100a and the second portion 100b are connected together by brazing.

[0046] The spoiler 200 can be positioned within the cavity 101, and its specific structure and arrangement will be described below. It should be noted that the cavity 101 in Figure 1 can have the outline shape shown in Figure 4. In one embodiment, the spoiler 200 is coupled to the housing 100 by brazing. For example, at least a portion of the spoiler 200 can be brazed to the first portion 100a and / or the second portion 100b.

[0047] The heat conducting plate 500 can be configured to establish a thermal connection with the heat exchanger 10. In one embodiment, the heat conducting plate 500 is disposed on the second portion 100b of the housing 100. Although the heat conducting plate 500 is shown as a three-section structure in the figure, the heat conducting plate 500 can have any suitable outer contour, such as a rectangle, depending on actual needs.

[0048] The electronic device 400 can establish a thermal connection with the heat exchanger 10. For example, a heat conducting plate 500 can be provided between the electronic device 400 and the second portion 100b of the housing 100 of the heat exchanger 10 so as to transfer heat from the electronic device 400 to the heat exchanger 10. In other words, the heat dissipation surface 102 on the housing 100 of the heat exchanger 10 can be connected to the electronic device 400 and be in thermal contact with the electronic device 400. In one embodiment, the electronic device 400 can be an IGBT. In one embodiment, the controller may further include components such as a circuit board and a housing that are not shown. For example, the electronic device 400 can be connected to a circuit board that is not shown. In one embodiment, the controller may be a controller for a motor, and thus the controller may be connected to components such as a motor that are not shown.

[0049] FIG2 is a partially enlarged view of the spoiler in FIG1 , and FIG3 is a schematic view of the flow path in FIG2 . As shown in FIG2 , the spoiler 200 is composed of multiple layers. For example, FIG2 schematically illustrates a first layer 200a, a second layer 200b, a third layer 200c, and a fourth layer 200d. Each layer is arranged sequentially along the flow path of the working fluid. The flow direction of the working fluid is indicated by arrow A1. Arrow A1 also represents the direction from inlet 110 to outlet 120 on the second portion 100b in FIG1 .

[0050] In reality, the flow channels in each layer of spoiler 200 do not extend along arrow A1, but rather form a certain angle with respect to it. As shown in Figure 3, the directions of the flow channels in the first layer 200a, second layer 200b, third layer 200c, and fourth layer 200d are indicated by the arrows within each layer. For example, the direction of the flow channel in fourth layer 200d forms a first angle with arrow A1, denoted by α. Correspondingly, the direction of the flow channel in the adjacent third layer 200c forms a first angle opposite to arrow A1. Therefore, the direction of the flow channel in fourth layer 200d forms a predetermined angle with the direction of the flow channel in the adjacent third layer 200c, namely an angle of 2α. The angles formed by adjacent layers with respect to arrow A1 are opposite, resulting in a zigzag or wavy flow path. In this way, the working fluid travels in a winding manner within spoiler 200. Spoiler 200 thus reduces the flow velocity of the working fluid, allowing the working fluid more time for heat exchange.

[0051] In one embodiment, the flow channels in adjacent layers throughout the entire spoiler 200 form a single, identical, fixed predetermined angle with each other. In one embodiment, the predetermined angle 2α can be between 5 and 30 degrees. In one embodiment, the first angle α can be 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, or 15 degrees.

[0052] Each layer of the spoiler 200 can have the same structure. In fact, only one layer needs to be rotated 180 degrees and then joined with another layer to obtain the above-mentioned curved or wavy flow channel arrangement.

[0053] Fig. 4 is a top view of a portion of an embodiment of a heat exchanger of the present application, and Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along section AA in Fig. 4. Figs. 4 and 5 illustrate an arrangement of a heat exchanger of the present application.

[0054] The working fluid may have different flow paths between the inlet 110 and the outlet 120 . Specifically, the flow path of the working fluid or the region through which the working fluid flows may include at least a heat dissipation region 310 and a bypass region 320 .

[0055] The heat dissipation region 310 may extend through the spoiler 200. The upstream of the heat dissipation region 310 is connected to the inlet 110, and the downstream of the heat dissipation region 310 is connected to the outlet 120. In one embodiment, the spoiler 200 is in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped, and the flow path inside it corresponds to the heat dissipation region 310. In one embodiment, the spoiler 200 is located within the heat dissipation region 310, and the heat dissipation surface 102 is located at the outer surface of the housing 100 and includes the heat dissipation region 310. In Figure 1, the heat dissipation region 310 is schematically shown by arrows. However, as described above, the flow path inside the spoiler 200 may be tortuous or wavy. Therefore, the heat dissipation region 310 may be tortuous or wavy. The working fluid flowing through the heat dissipation region 310 travels through the spoiler 200.

[0056] The bypass region 320 can extend along the inner wall of the cavity 101. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 4 , the bypass region 320 extends on both sides of the spoiler 200. The two sides of the spoiler 200 are labeled 203 and 204, and are therefore also referred to as the first side 203 and the second side 204. The bypass region 320 is located between the inner wall of the cavity 101 of the first portion 100a of the housing 100 and the first side 203 of the spoiler 200, and between the inner wall of the cavity 101 of the first portion 100a of the housing 100 and the second side 204 of the spoiler 200. The bypass region 320 is also schematically indicated by arrows. In one embodiment, the bypass regions 320 on both sides of the spoiler 200 are symmetrical. The upstream side of the bypass region 320 is in fluid communication with the inlet 110, and the downstream side of the bypass region 320 merges into the heat dissipation region 310. In practice, the bypass region 320 can gradually merge into the heat dissipation region 310 along the first side 203 and the second side 204. Furthermore, the cross-sectional dimensions of the bypass region 320 gradually decrease along the flow path of the working fluid. In the embodiment shown in FIG4 , the cross-sectional dimensions of the bypass region 320 decrease continuously, gradually, and steplessly, resulting in the bypass region 320 having a triangular shape. In one embodiment, the bypass region 320 can decrease in a stepwise manner. For example, the first side 203 and the second side 204 of the spoiler 200 and the inner contour of the cavity 101 can cooperate to provide a stepwise decreasing bypass region 320.

[0057] In one embodiment, the contour of the heat dissipation region 310 can correspond to the contour of the heat conducting plate 500. In other words, the heat conducting plate 500 and the electronic device 400 can be positioned adjacent to the heat dissipation region 310 to provide the desired heat dissipation effect. For example, the working fluid passing through the heat dissipation region 310 will remove heat. This heat can be generated by the electronic device 400 during operation and transferred to the housing 100 through the heat conducting plate 500, and then transferred to the working fluid in the heat dissipation region 310.

[0058] In one embodiment, after passing through the inlet 110, the working fluid first enters the inlet chamber near the inlet 110 and is then divided into the heat dissipation region 310 and / or the bypass region 320. In other words, the upstream of the heat dissipation region 310 and the bypass region 320 can be connected to the inlet chamber, and then connected to the inlet 110 through the inlet chamber. Before the working fluid exits through the outlet 120, the working fluid passes through the outlet chamber near the outlet 120. In other words, the working fluid that has passed through the heat dissipation region 310 and the bypass region 320 converges in the outlet chamber and then exits through the outlet 120. In other words, the downstream of the heat dissipation region 310 can be connected to the outlet chamber, and then connected to the outlet 120 through the outlet chamber.

[0059] FIG5 illustrates a side view of the embodiment shown in FIG4 . As shown, spoiler 200 is positioned between first portion 100a and second portion 100b of housing 100 and matches in shape with first portion 100a and second portion 100b of housing 100. Thus, in the embodiment of FIG4 and FIG5 , heat dissipation region 310 is located between first portion 100a and second portion 100b of housing 100 and extends through spoiler 200. A bypass region 320 is located between first portion 100a of housing 100 and spoiler 200 and extends a predetermined distance between first side 203 and second side 204 of spoiler 200.

[0060] By adopting the structure shown in Figures 4 and 5, a portion of the working fluid will flow through the bypass area 320 and be replenished to the downstream part of the heat dissipation area 310. Compared with the working fluid in the heat dissipation area 310, the working fluid in the bypass area 320 will pass through at a faster speed. Therefore, the temperature of the working fluid in the bypass area 320 is lower than that of the working fluid in the heat dissipation area 310 on the same cross section. In other words, the working fluid in the heat dissipation area 310 gradually heats up and its cooling capacity decreases as it flows downstream. The bypass area 320 can provide more cooling capacity for the downstream part of the heat dissipation area 310, thereby compensating for the impact of the decrease in cooling capacity. Such a structure helps to provide roughly uniform cooling capacity across the entire spoiler 200.

[0061] FIG6 is a schematic cross-sectional view of another embodiment of a heat exchanger of the present application, and FIG7 is a cross-sectional view taken along section BB in FIG6 . The spoiler 200 may include a first surface 201 and a second surface 202. The first surface 201 may face the first portion 100a of the housing 100, and the second surface 202 may face the second portion 100b of the housing 100. In the embodiments of FIG6 and FIG7 , the bypass region 320 is provided on the lower surface or first surface 201 of the spoiler 200 and is located between the first surface 201 of the spoiler 200 and the first portion 100a of the housing 100. In an embodiment not shown, the bypass region may be located on the upper surface or second surface 202 of the spoiler 200 and is located between the second surface 202 of the spoiler 200 and the second portion 100b of the housing 100. As shown in FIG. 7 , the first side surface 203 and the second side surface 204 of the spoiler 200 match the housing 100 , and no passage for the working fluid is provided between the first side surface 203 , the second side surface 204 and the housing 100 .

[0062] In one embodiment, the thickness of the spoiler 200 can be between 2 mm and 10 mm, such as 3 mm, 5 mm, or 8 mm. In other words, the dimensions of the first side 203 and the second side 204 can be between 2 mm and 10 mm. In one embodiment, the housing 100 of the heat exchanger of the present application can have a length of approximately 200 mm to 300 mm and a width of 80 mm to 120 mm. The length of the spoiler 200 can be between 120 mm and 250 mm, and the width can be between 90 mm and 110 mm.

[0063] In the embodiments shown in Figures 6 and 7, the cross-sectional dimensions of the bypass region 320 decrease in a stepped manner in the flow direction of the working fluid. Therefore, the first portion 100a of the housing 100 can be configured to be stepped accordingly. In another embodiment, the cross-sectional dimensions of the bypass region 320 can also decrease continuously, gradually, and steplessly. Figure 7 also shows a protrusion 100c extending from the housing 100. The end of the protrusion 100c can contact and support the spoiler 200. In the embodiment shown in Figure 7, the protrusion 100c extends through the bypass region 320, and the bypass region 320 passes through both sides of the protrusion 100c.

[0064] In the embodiments of Figures 4 to 7, the spoiler 200 can be constructed to have a roughly rectangular outer contour. This construction reduces the difficulty of manufacturing the spoiler 200 and eliminates the need to consider orientation when installing it into the cavity 101, thereby omitting the anti-misinsertion structure. The above advantages significantly reduce the manufacturing cost of the heat exchanger of the present application. However, the outer contour of the spoiler 200 is not limited to the one shown in the figure. For example, the first and second surfaces of the spoiler 200 can have a contour of one of the following shapes: triangle, square, rectangle, trapezoid, prism, pentagon, hexagon, or a combination thereof. In one embodiment, the edges of the first and second surfaces of the spoiler 200 can be straight or curved, or can be constructed with a stepped shape. In one embodiment, the contours of the first and second surfaces of the spoiler 200 can include at least one axis of symmetry. For example, the rectangular spoiler 200 shown in the figure includes two axes of symmetry.

[0065] FIG8 is a cross-sectional schematic diagram of another embodiment of the heat exchanger of the present application. Compared with the embodiment of FIG6 , the spoiler 200 in the embodiment of FIG8 extends into the bypass area 320, and FIG8 also uses a dotted line CC to schematically divide the heat dissipation area 310 and the bypass area 320. The embodiment of FIG8 adopts a stepped bypass area 320. Similarly, the bypass area 320 can be constructed to continuously, gradually, and steplessly reduce in cross-sectional size. The spoiler 200 structure of the embodiment of FIG8 can only be installed from one direction, and the anti-misinsertion structure is also omitted. The spoiler 200 can also have the curved or wavy flow channels shown in FIG2 and FIG3, and the angles between the flow channels of adjacent layers can be single, identical, and fixed.

[0066] The heat exchanger and controller of the present application have the advantages of being simple and reliable, easy to implement, and convenient to use, and can provide uniform heat dissipation capabilities.

[0067] This specification discloses the present application with reference to the accompanying drawings and also enables those skilled in the art to practice the present application, including making and using any device or system, selecting suitable materials, and using any combined methods. The scope of the present application is defined by the claimed technical solution and includes other examples that occur to those skilled in the art.
