Description

Clip retention structure

[0001] The present invention relates to a clip holding structure, and more particularly to a structure for holding a clip on a clip mounting seat provided on an assembly member.

[0002] Generally, when a member to be assembled, such as a door trim, is attached to a receiving member, such as a body panel of an automobile, the assembly is performed via a clip. Specifically, one end of the clip is attached in advance to a clip mounting seat provided on the door trim, and in that state, the other end of the clip is pushed into a fitting hole provided in the body panel, and the clip is fitted into the fitting hole, thereby assembling the door trim to the body panel.

[0003] In this case, since the door trim or the like to be assembled is large, it is necessary to use multiple clips for assembly. Therefore, in such a case, in order to accommodate the multiple clips, clip mounting seats are provided in multiple locations on the door trim or the like, and fitting holes are provided in multiple locations on the vehicle body panel or the like.

[0004] When each of the multiple clips is attached to the corresponding clip attachment seat in advance, each of the multiple clips needs to be held in the corresponding clip attachment seat so that the position of each of the multiple clips does not shift due to, for example, the clip's own weight or so that each of the multiple clips does not fall off the corresponding clip attachment seat.

[0005] In response to such demands, as seen in Patent Document 1, a structure is provided in which a locking hole is provided in the clip mounting seat, a locking protrusion is provided on the clip, and the locking hole and the locking protrusion are engaged to hold the clip in the clip mounting seat so that the clip does not fall off from the clip mounting seat.

[0006] However, when each of the multiple clips is held in its corresponding clip mounting seat as described above and then fitted into its corresponding fitting hole, there are cases, though not all, where the axial center of the clip does not coincide with the axial center of the corresponding fitting hole due to vibrations or the like when transporting an assembly component with clips already attached to the clip mounting seat. In combinations of clips and fitting holes where the axial centers do not coincide, the clip cannot be fitted into the fitting hole, and as a result, the door trim or the like cannot be assembled to the vehicle body panel or the like.

[0007] Patent Registration No. 2559515

[0008] In view of the above circumstances, the problem that the present invention aims to solve is to provide a structure for holding a clip in a clip mounting seat provided on a door trim or the like, so that the clip pre-mounted in the clip mounting seat does not fall off from the clip mounting seat, and the door trim or the like can be easily assembled to a vehicle body panel or the like.

[0009] The present invention has been made to solve such problems, and in one embodiment of the present invention, a structure for holding a clip on a clip mounting seat provided on an assembly member is such that the clip has a head on one end side of the shank, a leg on the other end side of the shank, and a flange between the head and leg of the shank, the flange having an engaging portion on a surface on the head side, and the clip mounting seat has the engaging portion, a mounting hole having a diameter smaller than that of the head and flange, and an opening leading to the mounting hole, and by inserting the shank between the head and flange through the opening from the radial direction into the mounting hole, the mounting hole is positioned between the head and flange, and the clip is mounted on the clip mounting seat. When the clip is attached to the clip attachment seat, the engaging portion of the clip engages with the engaging portion of the clip attachment seat, regulating the position of the axial center of the clip through the engagement; when the leg portion of the clip attached to the clip attachment seat is inserted into and fitted into the fitting hole of the member to be attached, if the position of the axial center of the clip differs from that of the fitting hole, as the leg portion is guided toward the axial center of the fitting hole, the engagement between the engaging portion of the clip and the engaging portion of the clip attachment seat is released so that the clip can move so that the position of the axial center of the clip approaches that of the axial center of the fitting hole.

[0010] In another embodiment, the structure for holding the clip in the clip mounting seat provided on the mounting member may be such that the engagement portion of the clip mounting seat is the edge of the mounting hole, or the engagement portion of the clip is a protrusion.

[0011] In another embodiment, the structure for holding the clip on the clip mounting seat provided on the assembly member may be such that the engaging portion of the clip mounting seat is a groove, or the engaging portion of the clip is a protrusion.

[0012] In addition, in another embodiment, the structure for holding the clip on the clip mounting seat provided on the assembly member may be such that the engaging portion of the clip mounting seat is a protrusion, or the engaging portion of the clip is a protrusion.

[0013] In another embodiment, the structure for holding the clip in the clip mounting seat provided on the mounting member may have multiple protrusions on the clip, and at least two of the multiple protrusions may engage with the engaging portion of the clip mounting seat.

[0014] According to the structure of the present invention for holding a clip in a clip mounting seat, the clip that is pre-attached to the clip mounting seat provided on the door trim, etc., does not fall off from the clip mounting seat, and the door trim, etc. can be easily assembled to the vehicle body panel, etc.

[0016] Hereinafter, the structures of the clip 10 and the clip mounting seat 22 according to the embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

[0017] FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of a clip 10 and an attachment member 20 according to a first embodiment of the present invention. The clip 10 is made of, for example, resin. The clip 10 includes a head 11, a shank 12, a flange 13, and legs 15. The head 11 is located at one end of the shank 12. The legs 15 are located at the other end of the shank 12. The legs 15 include protrusions that can be fitted into fitting holes 33 in an attachment member 30 (described below). The shape of the protrusions is not limited to protrusions, and any shape can be used as long as the shape allows the legs 15 to be fitted into the fitting holes 33 in the attachment member 30. The flange 13 is located between the head 11 and the legs 15 on the shank 12, and is preferably closer to the head 11. The diameter of the flange 13 is set larger than the diameter of the head 11. The flange 13 has a substantially horizontal surface extending radially inward and a sloped surface extending radially outward from a certain position. The flange 13 has engaging portions 14 (14a, 14b, 14c, 14d) on the surface on the head 11 side, on a substantially horizontal plane on the inner diameter side. The engaging portions 14 may be protrusions. The protrusions may be hemispherical. In this embodiment, the engaging portions 14 have four protrusions that are approximately equally spaced when viewed in the +Z direction, but this is not limited to this. It is preferable to provide at least three protrusions that are approximately equally spaced so that there are no restrictions on the mounting direction of the clip 10 when mounting the clip 10 (described later) to the clip mounting seat 22.

[0018] The mounting member 20 is, for example, a door trim to be mounted on a body panel of an automobile. The mounting member 20 includes a base 21 and a clip mounting seat 22. The clip mounting seat 22 is provided on the base 21. Of the four side surfaces of the clip mounting seat 22, three side surfaces extend in the +Z direction, and the remaining side surface is open. The clip mounting seat 22 has a surface facing the base 21 from the three side surfaces. The clip mounting seat 22 includes a mounting hole 23, an opening 24, and an engagement portion 25 on the surface facing the base 21. The mounting hole 23 is a hole with a diameter smaller than the diameters of the head 11 and flange 13 of the clip 10. The opening 24 communicates with the mounting hole 23 and also communicates with one open side surface of the clip mounting seat 22. In this embodiment, the engagement portion 25 is the edge of the mounting hole 23.

[0019] As shown by the dashed arrow in Figure 1, the clip 10 is attached to the clip mounting base 22 by inserting the shaft portion 12 between the head portion 11 and the flange 13 of the clip 10 in the +Y direction from one open side of the clip mounting base 22 through the opening 24 and into the mounting hole 23.

[0020] FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the clip 10 attached to the clip mounting seat 22 of the first embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 3 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in FIG. 2 . Furthermore, FIG. 4 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line B-B in FIG. 2 . As can be seen from FIGS. 3 and 4 , the four protrusions 14a, 14b, 14c, and 14d of the engagement portion 14 are located inside the edge of the mounting hole 23, and three of these protrusions 14a, 14c, and 14d engage with the edge of the mounting hole 23, which is the engagement portion 25 of the clip mounting seat 22. This engagement restricts the position of the axial center of the clip 10 to coincide with the position of the center of the mounting hole 23 on the Z axis. This restriction of the axial center position of the clip 10 holds the clip 10 in the clip mounting seat 22. It is preferable to arrange the protrusions 14a, 14b, 14c, and 14d on the surface of the flange 13 at approximately equal intervals, as this allows the clip 10 to be more stably held on the clip mounting seat 22. Furthermore, for the clip 10 to be held in the clip mounting seat 22, it is sufficient that at least two protrusions are engaged with the edge, but when attaching the clip 10 to the clip mounting seat 22, the protrusion 14b may be positioned at a position where there is an edgeless opening 24, as shown in Figure 4, and the protrusion and the edge may not engage. Therefore, taking such a case into consideration, if at least three protrusions are arranged at approximately equal intervals on the surface of the flange 13 as described above, at least two protrusions can engage with the edge, which is the engaging portion 25.

[0021] 5 to 7 are diagrams showing the initial, intermediate, and final states, respectively, of the clip 10 attached to the clip mounting base 22 of the first embodiment of the present invention when the clip 10 is pushed in the +Z direction and the leg portion 15 is inserted and fitted into the fitting hole 33 of the mounted member 30 via the leading clip 31. First, referring to Fig. 5, it can be seen that the position of the axial center of the clip 10 (line CC) and the position of the axial center of the fitting hole 33 of the mounted member 30 (line D-D) are different.

[0022] Next, Figure 6 shows the state in which the clip 10 has been further pushed in the +Z direction from the state in Figure 5. Referring to Figure 6, the leg portions 15 of the clip 10 are in contact with the inner surface 32 of the leading clip 31 attached to the fitting hole 33. When a load is further applied to the clip 10 in the +Z direction while it is in contact with this inner surface 32, the inclined inner surface 32 of the leading clip 31 applies a load to the contacting leg portions 15 in the -X direction along line D-D, which is the axial center of the fitting hole 33, and the leg portions 15 are guided in the -X direction. As the leg portions 15 are guided in the -X direction, a load is applied to the clip 10 in the -X direction. When a load is applied to the clip 10 in the -X direction, a load is applied between the protrusion 14a and the edge of the engagement portion 25. As can be seen from FIG. 6, the flange 13 bends in the +Z direction, the protrusion 14a overcomes the edge, and the engagement portion 14 of the flange 13 surface is disengaged from the edge of the mounting hole 23, which is the engagement portion 25, causing the clip 10 to move in the -X direction. While the widths X1 and X2 of the mounting hole 23 are the same in FIG. 5, as the clip 10 moves in the -X direction, the width X2 of the mounting hole 23 becomes smaller than the width X1 in FIG. 6. Furthermore, as the clip 10 moves in the -X direction, the difference between the lines CC and DD in FIG. 5 becomes smaller in FIG. 6, indicating that the lines CC and DD are approaching each other. Furthermore, if the flange 13 is easily bent, the engagement between the protrusion 14a of the engagement portion 14 of the flange 13 surface and the edge of the mounting hole 23, which is the engagement portion 25, becomes more easily disengaged. Therefore, it is preferable that the flange 13 be thin so that it can be easily bent.

[0023] 7 shows a state in which the clip 10 is further pushed in the +Z direction from the state in FIG. 6, and the legs 15 are fitted into the fitting holes 33 of the mounted member 30 via the leading clip 31, more specifically, a state in which the legs 15 are fitted into the fitting holes 33 of the mounted member 30 by fitting the legs 15 into flexible elastic pieces provided on the leading clip 31 of the mounted member 30. Referring to FIG. 7, as described above, the legs 15 in contact with the inclined inner surface 32 of the leading clip 31 are further loaded in the -X direction and guided in the -X direction, and as a result, the clip 10 moves further in the -X direction, thereby narrowing the width X2 of the mounting hole 23 compared to FIG. 6. Furthermore, in Figure 7, when compared with Figure 6, it can be seen that the leg portion 15 is fitted into the flexible elastic piece provided on the leading clip 31 of the attached member 30, bringing the CC line and the DD line even closer, and as a result, the CC line and the DD line overlap.

[0024] In this way, when the position of the axial center of the clip 10 differs from the position of the axial center of the fitting hole 33, the engagement between the clip 10 and the clip mounting seat 22 is released, thereby making it possible to easily assemble the assembly member 20 to the assembly receiving member 30.

[0025] While the above description illustrates a case in which the axial center of the clip 10 is misaligned in the +X direction relative to the axial center of the fitting hole 33, misalignment in any direction on the XY plane, not limited to the +X direction, can be corrected by releasing the engagement so that the clip 10 can move. Furthermore, because a load is applied locally to the projections 14a, 14b, 14c, and 14d, which are the engaging portion 14 on the flange 13 surface, the clip 10 is released from engagement with the engaging portion 25 with a relatively low load. As shown in FIGS. 5 to 7 , the clip 10 may be fitted into the fitting hole 33 via a leading clip 31, or, for example, the clip 10 may be fitted directly into the fitting hole 33 without the leading clip 31.

[0026] Fig. 8 shows a perspective view of a clip 10 and an assembly member 20 according to a second embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 9 shows a perspective view of the clip 10 attached to the clip attachment seat 22 according to the second embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 10 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Fig. 9. Furthermore, Fig. 11 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line B-B in Fig. 9. In this embodiment, components similar to those in the first embodiment are designated by the same reference numerals as in the first embodiment, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0027] The engaging portion 14 of the clip 10 of this embodiment has four protrusions on the surface of the flange 13, as in the first embodiment. However, as can be seen by comparing FIG. 11 with FIG. 4, the protrusions of this embodiment are located closer to the outer diameter of the surface of the flange 13 than the protrusions of the first embodiment. As can be seen by referring to FIGS. 10 and 11, the engaging portion 25 of the clip mounting base 22 of this embodiment is an arc-shaped groove that is concentric with the mounting hole 23 and has a larger diameter than the mounting hole 23. The cross-sectional shape of the groove is semicircular. However, the cross-sectional shape of the groove is not limited thereto and may be, for example, semi-elliptical or triangular. While the protrusions and edges engage with each other in the first embodiment, the protrusions and grooves engage with each other in this embodiment. However, this embodiment achieves the same effects as the first embodiment. The depth of the groove may be shallower than the protrusions to prevent them from fitting into the grooves, so that the protrusions can easily overcome the grooves and disengage when the clip 10 is fitted into the fitting hole 33 of the mounting member 30.

[0028] Fig. 12 shows a perspective view of a clip 10 and an assembly member 20 according to a third embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 13 shows a perspective view of the clip 10 attached to the clip attachment seat 22 according to the third embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 14 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Fig. 13. Furthermore, Fig. 15 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line B-B in Fig. 13. In this embodiment, components similar to those in the first embodiment are designated by the same reference numerals as in the first embodiment, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0029] The engaging portion 14 of the clip 10 of this embodiment has four protrusions on the surface of the flange 13, as in the first embodiment. However, as can be seen by comparing Figure 15 with Figure 4, the protrusions in this embodiment are located closer to the outer diameter of the surface of the flange 13 than in the first embodiment. As can be seen by referring to Figures 14 and 15, the engaging portion 25 of the clip mounting base 22 of this embodiment is an arc-shaped protrusion that is concentric with the mounting hole 23 and has a larger diameter than the mounting hole 23. The cross-sectional shape of the protrusion is semicircular. However, the cross-sectional shape of the protrusion is not limited to this and may be, for example, semi-elliptical or triangular. 15 , regarding the arrangement of the engaging portion 14 of the clip 10 and the engaging portion 25 of the clip mounting seat 22, in this embodiment, the arc-shaped protrusions serving as the engaging portion 25 on the clip mounting seat 22 are located radially outward of the protrusions 14a, 14b, 14c, and 14d serving as the engaging portion 14 on the flange 13 surface of the clip 10, so that the protrusions on the flange 13 surface of the clip 10 on the inner diameter side engage with the arc-shaped protrusions on the clip mounting seat 22 on the outer diameter side. Note that while the protrusions engage with the edges in the first embodiment, the protrusions engage with the protrusions in this embodiment, but the same effects as those of the first embodiment are achieved. The protrusions on the clip mounting seat 22 may be shallower than the protrusions on the flange 13 surface so that the protrusions on the flange 13 surface can easily overcome the protrusions on the clip mounting seat 22 and disengage when the clip 10 is fitted into the fitting hole 33 of the mounted member 30.

[0030] Fig. 16 shows a perspective view of a clip 10 and an assembly member 20 according to a modified example of the third embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 17 shows a perspective view of a state in which the clip 10 is attached to a clip attachment seat 22 according to a modified example of the third embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 18 shows a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Fig. 17. Fig. 18 also shows a cross-sectional view taken along line B-B in Fig. 17. In this modified example, components similar to those in the first embodiment are designated by the same reference numerals as in the first embodiment, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0031] The engaging portion 14 of the clip 10 of this modified example has four protrusions on the surface of the flange 13, as in the third embodiment. However, as can be seen by comparing FIG. 19 with FIG. 15, the protrusions on the surface of the flange 13 of this modified example are located closer to the outer diameter of the surface of the flange 13 than in the third embodiment. Also, as can be seen by comparing FIG. 19 with FIG. 15, while the third embodiment has four protrusions (14a, 14b, 14c, and 14d), this modified example has six protrusions (14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e, and 14f). As can be seen by referring to FIGS. 18 and 19, the engaging portion 25 of the clip mounting base 22 of this modified example is an arc-shaped protrusion that is concentric with the mounting hole 23 and has a larger diameter than the mounting hole 23. The cross-sectional shape of the protrusion is semicircular. However, the cross-sectional shape of the protrusion is not limited to this and may be, for example, semi-elliptical or triangular. Regarding the arrangement of the engaging portion 14 of the clip 10 and the engaging portion 25 of the clip mounting seat 22, in this modified example, as can be seen by referring to Figure 19, unlike the third embodiment, the arc-shaped protrusion that is the engaging portion 25 provided on the clip mounting seat 22 is provided on the inner diameter side of the protrusions 14a, 14b, 14c, 14d, 14e, and 14f that are the engaging portions 14 provided on the flange 13 surface of the clip 10, and the protrusion on the flange 13 surface of the clip 10 on the outer diameter side engages with the arc-shaped protrusion on the clip mounting seat 22 on the inner diameter side.

[0032] When attaching the clip 10 to the clip mounting seat 22, as described above, the protrusions 14 on the flange 13 surface of the clip 10 are engaged with the engaging portions 25 of the clip mounting seat 22, and at this time, due to the difference in the arrangement of the protrusions 14 of the clip 10 and the engaging portions 25 of the clip mounting seat 22 between this modified example and the third embodiment as described above, this modified example may be superior to the third embodiment. That is, when attaching the clip 10 to the clip mounting seat 22, in the third embodiment, the protrusions 14 of the clip 10 must climb over the engaging portions 25 in at least three places in order to engage the protrusions 14 of the clip 10 with the protrusions that are the engaging portions 25 of the clip mounting seat 22. 19 , for example, when the clip 10 is inserted into the clip mounting seat 22 in a direction at an angle of 45° (downward and to the left as viewed in the drawing) toward the +Y direction (downward and to the left as viewed in the drawing) with respect to the +X direction (leftward as viewed in the drawing), the protrusion 14 of the clip 10 only needs to climb over the protrusions that are the engaging portions 25 at two locations in order to engage the protrusions 14 of the clip 10 with the protrusions that are the engaging portions 25 of the clip mounting seat 22. Therefore, this modification is advantageous over the third embodiment in that there may be fewer protrusions 14 of the clip 10 that need to climb over the engaging portions 25 of the clip mounting seat 22.

[0033] In the first embodiment, the protrusions and edges are engaged, whereas in this modified example, the protrusions are engaged with each other, but this modified example provides the same effects as in the first embodiment. The depth of the protrusions on the clip mounting seat 22 may be set shallower than the protrusions on the flange 13 surface so that the engagement can be easily released when the clip 10 is fitted into the fitting hole 33 of the mounted member 30.

[0034] As a further modified example, the arc-shaped protrusion that is the engagement portion 25 provided on the clip mounting seat 22 may be provided double on the inner diameter side and outer diameter side with respect to the protrusion 14 on the flange 13 surface of the clip 10, so that the protrusion on the flange 13 surface of the clip 10 engages with the arc-shaped protrusions on the inner diameter side and outer diameter side of the clip mounting seat 22.

[0035] The first to third embodiments of the present invention have been described above with reference to the figures. However, the structure of the clip and clip mounting seat is not limited to the specific structure described and can be modified as appropriate, as long as it is configured so that the engagement between the clip and the clip mounting seat is released when the position of the axial center of the clip differs from the position of the axial center of the fitting hole.

[0036] Furthermore, although the present invention has been described using the first to third embodiments, the application of the present invention is not limited to application to, for example, vehicle body panels, but can be applied to various panels, and can be applied as appropriate within the scope of the technical concept of the invention.
