[0001] The present disclosure relates to a wearable device, and more particularly to a wearable device that can be made more convenient.

[0002] Conventionally, wearable devices used in VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) include, for example, eyeglass-type devices that are worn by placing nose pads on the user's nose and earmuffs over the ears, and goggle-type devices that are worn by wrapping a belt or the like around the back of the head to secure a display unit that covers both of the user's eyes.

[0003] Furthermore, as disclosed in Patent Document 1, a head-mounted display has been proposed that is configured to position a light guide plate in front of the user's eyes using a flexible frame that is attached to the user's head.

[0004] JP 2022 / 158207 A

[0005] As described above, various types of wearable devices are in use, but there is a demand for wearable devices that are more convenient to use.

[0006] The present disclosure has been made in view of such circumstances, and aims to further improve convenience.

[0007] A wearable device according to a first aspect of the present disclosure comprises a front unit having at least an optical engine block that projects image display light to show an image to a user and a light guide plate that guides the image display light to reach the user's eyes, and is positioned in front of the user's ears when worn by the user; and a rear unit having at least a board block in which a board is incorporated and a battery block in which a battery is incorporated, and is positioned behind the user's ears when worn by the user, wherein the front unit is independently configured as a right front unit that is positioned in front of the user's right ear and a left front unit that is positioned in front of the user's left ear, and the right front unit and the left front unit are connected by the rear unit.

[0008] In a first aspect of the present disclosure, the front unit has at least an optical engine block that projects image display light to show an image to a user and a light guide plate that guides the image display light to reach the user's eyeballs, and is arranged in front of both ears of the user when worn by the user, and the rear unit has at least a board block in which a board is incorporated and a battery block in which a battery is incorporated, and is arranged behind both ears of the user when worn by the user. The front unit is configured independently of a right front unit that is arranged in front of the user's right ear and a left front unit that is arranged in front of the user's left ear, and the right front unit and left front unit are connected by the rear unit.

[0012] Hereinafter, specific embodiments to which the present technology is applied will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.

[0013] <Configuration Example of Wearable Device> A configuration example of an embodiment of a wearable device to which the present technology is applied will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4 .

[0014] Figure 1 shows an oblique view of the wearable device 11 from the upper left side, Figure 2 shows an oblique view of the wearable device 11 from the upper right side, Figure 3 shows a plan view of the wearable device 11, and Figure 4 shows a front view of the wearable device 11.

[0015] As shown in the figure, the wearable device 11 is configured such that the right front unit 21R is connected to the rear unit 22 via the right ear hook 23R, and the left front unit 21L is connected to the rear unit 22 via the left ear hook 23L. The user can use AR by wearing the wearable device 11 with the right ear hook 23R hanging over the right ear and the left ear hook 23L hanging over the left ear, with the rear unit 22 passing behind the neck.

[0016] The right front unit 21R is positioned in front of the right ear when the user wears the wearable device 11, and is configured to include a light guide plate 31, an optical engine block 32, a movable connection block 33, and a microphone block 34.

[0017] The light guide plate 31 is disposed in front of the right eyeball when the user wears the wearable device 11, and guides the image display light projected from the optical engine block 32 to reach the right eyeball. For example, the light guide plate 31 is made of transparent glass or resin, and allows the user to see an image generated by the image display light superimposed on the surrounding environment.

[0018] The optical engine block 32 is configured to incorporate, for example, a light source, a microdisplay, a projection lens, etc., and projects image display light to show an image to a user using the light guide plate 31.

[0019] As will be described later with reference to Figures 8 and 9, the movable connection block 33 is connected to the optical engine block 32 and also to the microphone block 34 so that the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 can be rotated around two axes based on the vicinity of the center of the user's right eyeball.

[0020] The microphone block 34 incorporates a microphone, a speaker, and the like, and its rear end is fixed to the right ear hook 23R. For example, the microphone block 34 can pick up the user's voice and surrounding sounds through multiple round holes formed in the microphone block 34 as shown in Figure 2. In addition, a right pad portion 41R and a cheekbone support 42 are attached to the microphone block 34 at predetermined positions on the inside of the wearable device 11.

[0021] The right pad portion 41R is configured with a cushioned pad. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the right pad portion 41R is provided so as to be convex toward the inside of the wearable device 11, and the pad is provided so as to abut near the front of the right ear (see FIG. 5 described later) when the user wears the wearable device 11. In addition, a slit is provided on the rear side surface of the right pad portion 41R, and sound output from a speaker built into the microphone block 34 is configured to pass through the slit and head toward the user's right ear.

[0022] The cheekbone support 42 is made of a flexible, elongated plate-like member, and is provided to extend from the base end toward the tip end toward the front of the wearable device 11, for example, from the microphone block 34 toward the inside of the wearable device 11, as shown in Figure 3. The cheekbone support 42 is provided to support the weight of the right side of the wearable device 11, which is structured so that the weight is biased to the right side where the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 are provided.

[0023] The cheekbone support 42 is configured so that its tip comes into contact with the area near the cheekbone on the right side (see FIG. 5 described below) when the user wears the wearable device 11, thereby stably supporting the right front unit 21R. For example, the cheekbone support 42 is configured using a thin, long, plate-shaped member such as aluminum or thermoplastic resin inside and a soft member such as silicone or urethane foam on the outside. This allows the cheekbone support 42 to bend into an appropriate shape to accommodate various bone structures and to maintain that bent shape.

[0024] The left front unit 21L is disposed in front of the left ear when the wearable device 11 is worn by the user, and is configured to include a switch block 35.

[0025] The switch block 35 incorporates a power switch, an operation switch, etc., and its rear end is fixed to the left ear hook 23L. The switch block 35 also incorporates a microphone, a speaker, etc. A left pad 41L is attached to the switch block 35 at a predetermined position on the inside of the wearable device 11.

[0026] The left pad portion 41L is configured with a cushioned pad. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the left pad portion 41L is provided so as to be convex toward the inside of the wearable device 11, and the pad is provided so as to abut near the front of the left ear (see FIG. 6 described later) when the user wears the wearable device 11. In addition, a slit is provided on the rear side surface of the left pad portion 41L, and sound output from a speaker built into the switch block 35 is configured to pass through the slit and head toward the user's left ear.

[0027] The rear unit 22 is positioned behind both ears when the user wears the wearable device 11, and is configured to include a main board block 51, a battery block 52, and a neckband 53.

[0028] The main board block 51 incorporates a main board for controlling the operation of the wearable device 11, and has a front end fixed to the right ear hook 23R and a rear end fixed to one end of the neckband 53. The main board is electrically connected to at least the optical engine block 32.

[0029] The battery block 52 incorporates a battery for operating the wearable device 11, and has a front end fixed to the left ear hook 23L and a rear end fixed to the other end of the neckband 53. The battery supplies power to at least the optical engine block 32.

[0030] Neckband 53 is configured with wiring that electrically connects main board block 51 and right front unit 21R with battery block 52 and left front unit 21L, and connects each block arranged on the right side of wearable device 11 with each block arranged on the left side of wearable device 11. Neckband 53 is also configured, for example, from an elastic body that has a force that acts toward the inside of wearable device 11, and can generate a wearing pressure when the user wears wearable device 11.

[0031] For example, when the wearable device 11 is not worn by a user, the neckband 53 is curved so that the distance between the right front unit 21R and the left front unit 21L is narrower than the distance between the user's head. The user then unfolds the curved shape of the neckband 53 so that the distance between the right front unit 21R and the left front unit 21L is wider than the distance between the user's head, and wears the wearable device 11 so that the right front unit 21R and the left front unit 21L sandwich the user's head. When worn in this manner, the wearable device 11 is configured to generate an appropriate wearing pressure on the user's head by having the neckband 53 have a force that returns the neckband 53 to its original curved shape.

[0032] As described above, the wearable device 11 is configured so that the right front unit 21R and the left front unit 21L are connected by the rear unit 22, allowing for easy attachment and detachment, thereby improving convenience. For example, when the user will not be using the wearable device 11 for a short period of time, the user can remove the wearable device 11 from the head and hang it around the neck. In this case, the wearable device 11 is configured so that the neckband 53 applies pressure to hold the user's head, allowing the user to easily attach and detach the wearable device 11.

[0033] Furthermore, the wearable device 11 can avoid problems such as leaving indentations or causing discomfort due to tightness around the entire head, which are common in conventional goggle-type wearable devices.

[0034] Furthermore, in the wearable device 11, the light guide plate 31 has a frameless structure. For example, while conventional eyeglass-type wearable devices have a structure in which a frame is provided to support the periphery of the light guide plate, the wearable device 11 is configured without such a frame. As a result, the wearable device 11 can display an image using image display light so that it is superimposed on the surrounding environment, without obstructing the user's field of vision with a frame or the like. The light guide plate 31 has a structure in which cover plates are attached to both sides and the periphery is chamfered to ensure safety.

[0035] 3, the wearable device 11 is configured so that the pads of the right pad unit 41R are more convex toward the inside of the wearable device 11 than the microphone block 34, and the pads of the left pad unit 41L are more convex toward the inside of the wearable device 11 than the switch block 35. This leaves gaps between the right front unit 21R and the left front unit 21L and the sides of the user's face when the user wears the wearable device 11. Therefore, for example, even if a user wearing glasses uses the wearable device 11, the temples of the glasses can pass through the gaps, allowing the user to wear the wearable device 11 while wearing their glasses.

[0036] <Support Structure of Wearable Device> The support structure when the wearable device 11 is worn by a user will be described with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6. FIG.

[0037] FIG. 5 shows a right side view of the wearable device 11 worn by a user, and FIG. 6 shows a left side view of the wearable device worn by a user.

[0038] The wearable device 11 is configured to be fixed to the user's head with a support structure that supports the right side of the user's face at four support points P11 to P14 as shown in Figure 5 and the left side of the user's face at three support points P21 to P23 as shown in Figure 6.

[0039] Support point P11 is the position where the right pad portion 41R abuts near the front of the user's right ear, support point P12 is the position where the right ear hook portion 23R abuts near the top of the base of the user's right ear, and support point P13 is the position where the right ear hook portion 23R abuts near the back of the base of the user's right ear.

[0040] Support point P14 is a position where the tip of cheekbone support 42 abuts near the cheekbone on the right side of the user's face. For example, cheekbone support 42 is configured so that support point P14 is located at a position that is approximately directly below the center of gravity of light guide plate 31, optical engine block 32, movable connection block 33, and microphone block 34, and supports the weight of right front unit 21R made up of these parts in a well-balanced manner.

[0041] Support point P21 is the position where the left pad portion 41L abuts near the front of the user's left ear, support point P22 is the position where the left ear hook portion 23L abuts near the top of the base of the user's left ear, and support point P23 is the position where the left ear hook portion 23L abuts near the back of the base of the user's left ear.

[0042] In this way, the wearable device 11 can improve stability when worn by the user by using support points P11 to P13 and support points P21 to P23 that symmetrically support both sides of the user's face, and support point P14 that supports weight that is biased to the right side due to the provision of the optical engine block 32, etc. This allows the wearable device 11 to show a stable image to the user without shaking.

[0043] Furthermore, the wearable device 11 is configured so that when worn by a user, the weight of each block positioned in front of both ears is approximately the same as the weight of each block positioned behind both ears. This allows the wearable device 11 to have an equal weight balance between the front and rear when worn by a user, thereby improving stability. Furthermore, when viewed from the side as shown in Figures 5 and 6, the main board block 51, battery block 52, and neckband 53 are positioned lower than the other blocks, resulting in a lower center of gravity and improved stability.

[0044] <Shape of Wearable Device> The shape of the wearable device 11 as viewed from the side will be described with reference to Fig. 7. In the description of Fig. 7, the right front unit 21R and the left front unit 21L will be collectively referred to as the front unit 21, and the right ear hook portion 23R and the left ear hook portion 23L will be collectively referred to as the ear hook portion 23.

[0045] 7 , in a side view of the wearable device 11, a line L1 extending from the ear hook 23 to the front along the front unit 21 in a substantially horizontal direction, and a line L2 extending from the ear hook 23 to the rear along the rear unit 22, are inclined downward as they extend rearward. As a result, the wearable device 11 has a shape in which the rear unit 22 is inclined relative to the front unit 21 in accordance with the angle θ between the lines L1 and L2. In other words, when the direction in which the front unit 21 is attached to the ear hook 23 is considered to be horizontal, the rear unit 22 is positioned lower than the front unit 21 and is attached to the ear hook 23 at an angle that descends rearward.

[0046] Therefore, when the user wears the wearable device 11, the rear unit 22 is positioned low on the back of the user's head (near the area between the back of the head and the neck) so as to be inclined at a position lower than both ears. This allows the wearable device 11 to be made smaller, and also ensures space behind the user's ears and head, preventing the rear unit 22 from affecting the user's hairstyle. Furthermore, for a user who uses a cochlear implant or a hearing aid, for example, the rear unit 22 can be positioned in the wearable device 11 so as not to interfere with the cochlear implant or hearing aid.

[0047] Furthermore, the wearable device 11 can employ a structure that allows the angle θ to be changed at the ear hook portion 23. That is, the wearable device 11 can move the rear unit 22 relative to the front unit 21 so that the angle θ becomes large as shown in the upper side of Fig. 7 and the angle θ becomes small as shown in the lower side of Fig. 7. Of course, the wearable device 11 can fix the rear unit 22 so that the angle θ between the front unit 21 and the rear unit 22 is any angle θ between the angles θ shown in the figure.

[0048] It is anticipated that if the angle θ between the front unit 21 and the rear unit 22 of the wearable device 11 is too small, the center of gravity will be high and the device will become unstable, while if the angle θ between the front unit 21 and the rear unit 22 is too large, the rear unit 22 will hit the user's neck when the user looks up. Therefore, it is preferable that the wearable device 11 be configured so that this angle θ is in the range of 10° to 25°, and more preferably in the range of 15° to 20°.

[0049] <Moving Mechanism of Wearable Device> The moving mechanism of the wearable device 11 will be described with reference to FIGS. 8 and 9. FIG.

[0050] As described above, the wearable device 11 is configured so that the movable connection block 33 allows the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 to rotate around two axes based on the vicinity of the center of the user's right eyeball.

[0051] FIG. 8A shows a plan view of the vicinity of the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32, and FIG. 8B shows a right side view of the vicinity of the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32.

[0052] The wearable device 11 has a movable mechanism configured so that the light guide plate 31, optical engine block 32, and movable connection block 33 can rotate in the direction of the white arrow, for example, within a range of +4.5° to −4.5°, around an axis perpendicular to the intersection of the orthogonal dashed lines shown in FIG. 8A. For example, a rotation hinge is built into the connection between the movable connection block 33 and the microphone block 34, so that they can slide relative to each other along the arc shown by the dashed line around this axis. This allows the light guide plate 31, optical engine block 32, and movable connection block 33 to rotate relative to the microphone block 34 in accordance with the movement of the rotation hinge.

[0053] The wearable device 11 has a movable mechanism configured so that the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 can rotate in the direction of the white arrow, for example, within a range of +90° to −90°, more preferably within a range of +7.5° to −7.5°, about an axis perpendicular to the intersection of the orthogonal dashed lines shown in FIG. 8B. For example, a rotation hinge is built into the connection between the movable connection block 33 and the optical engine block 32, so that they can slide relative to each other around this axis along the circle shown by the dashed line. This allows the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 to rotate relative to the movable connection block 33 in accordance with the movement of the rotation hinge.

[0054] The wearable device 11 is configured so that, when worn by a user, an axis perpendicular to the intersection of the orthogonal dashed dotted lines shown in A of Fig. 8 and an axis perpendicular to the intersection of the orthogonal dashed dotted lines shown in B of Fig. 8 are located near the center of the user's right eyeball. Therefore, the wearable device 11 can rotate the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 around two axes based on the vicinity of the center of the user's right eyeball.

[0055] Figure 9 shows a plan view of the wearable device 11, with the user's right eye as expected when wearing the wearable device 11, and the eyebox indicating the range in which the image generated by the image display light is visible through the eye shown by a dotted line.

[0056] The center of Fig. 9 shows a state in which the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 are disposed at a reference position. The left side of Fig. 9 shows the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 rotated counterclockwise with respect to the reference position, and the right side of Fig. 9 shows the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 rotated clockwise with respect to the reference position.

[0057] As shown in the figure, the wearable device 11 can adjust the display position of an image using image display light without moving away from the eyebox by rotating the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 based on the center of the user's right eye. The wearable device 11 is configured to maintain a constant distance from the user's right eye to the light guide plate 31 even when the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 are rotated to adjust the display position of an image using image display light. In this way, the wearable device 11 can adjust the display position left and right while minimizing changes in the display distance (eye relief) of an image using image display light.

[0058] Similarly, by viewing the wearable device 11 from the side and rotating the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 based on the center of the user's right eyeball (see B in Figure 8), the display position can be adjusted up and down while minimizing changes in the image display distance due to the image display light.

[0059] In addition, the wearable device 11 can be made slimmer by configuring the movable mechanism so that the axis for rotating the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 is positioned behind the center of the optical engine block 32 (for example, above A in Figure 8 or to the left of B in Figure 8).

[0060] <Modification of Wearable Device> A modification of the wearable device 11 will be described with reference to FIG.

[0061] In the wearable device 11A shown in FIG. 10, the same components as those in the wearable device 11 shown in FIG. 1 are denoted by the same reference numerals, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.

[0062] That is, the wearable device 11A is configured similarly to the wearable device 11 of Figure 1 in that it includes a right ear hook portion 23R, a left ear hook portion 23L, a light guide plate 31, an optical engine block 32, a movable connection block 33, a microphone block 34, a switch block 35, a right pad portion 41R, a left pad portion 41L, and a cheekbone support 42.

[0063] On the other hand, the wearable device 11A has a different configuration from the wearable device 11 of Figure 1 in that a neckband 53R is connected to the right ear hook portion 23R, a neckband 53L is connected to the left ear hook portion 23L, and a board battery block 61 is provided between the neckband 53R and the neckband 53L.

[0064] The board battery block 61 is configured by incorporating the main board and battery that were incorporated in the main board block 51 and battery block 52 in Fig. 1. In other words, the board battery block 61 is configured by integrating the main board block 51 and battery block 52 in Fig. 1.

[0065] The wearable device 11A configured in this manner can also provide improved convenience, similar to the wearable device 11 in Fig. 1. Furthermore, the wearable device 11A can have a lower center of gravity due to the board battery block 61, thereby improving stability when worn by a user.

[0066] In the present embodiment, an example configuration has been described in which the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 are disposed on the right side of the head of a user wearing the wearable device 11, and image display light is projected onto the user's right eye. However, for example, a configuration in which the left and right are reversed is also possible. That is, the wearable device 11 can be configured so that the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 are disposed on the left side of the user's head so that image display light is projected onto the user's left eye. Note that the wearable device 11 may also be configured so that the light guide plate 31 and the optical engine block 32 are provided on both sides so that image display light is projected onto both eyes of the user.

[0067] The wearable device 11 may also be configured such that the microphone block 34 and the switch block 35 are reversed, with the microphone block 34 provided in the left front unit 21L and the switch block 35 provided in the right front unit 21R. Bone conduction speakers may also be used as the speakers incorporated in the microphone block 34 and the switch block 35. In this case, sound can be transmitted through the pads of the right pad portion 41R and the left pad portion 41L that come into contact with the front of the left and right ears.

[0068] It should be noted that the present technologies described in this specification can be implemented independently and singly, unless a contradiction arises. Of course, any two or more of the present technologies can also be implemented in combination. For example, part or all of the present technologies described in any embodiment can be implemented in combination with part or all of the present technologies described in other embodiments. Furthermore, part or all of any of the present technologies described above can also be implemented in combination with other technologies not described above.

[0069] <Examples of Combinations of Configurations> The present technology can also be configured as follows: (1) A wearable device comprising: a front unit having at least an optical engine block that projects image display light to show an image to a user and a light guide plate that guides the image display light to reach the user's eyes, and that is arranged in front of both ears of the user when worn by the user; and a rear unit having at least a board block in which a board is incorporated and a battery block in which a battery is incorporated, and that is arranged behind both ears of the user when worn by the user, wherein the front unit is independently configured as a right front unit that is arranged in front of the user's right ear and a left front unit that is arranged in front of the user's left ear, and wherein the right front unit and the left front unit are connected by the rear unit.
