Description

PARTICULATE FILTER FOR A BRAKE CALIPER AND BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLYDESCRIPTION

[0001] . Field of the invention

[0002] . The present invention relates to a particulate filter for a brake caliper.

[0003] . Background art

[0004] . Braking systems typically comprise a braking device and a rotor, e.g., a brake disc, where the braking device is configured to brake the rotor. The braking device, e.g., a brake caliper, comprises at least one thrust device and at least one braking element, such as a brake pad, which includes friction material configured to abut against a braking surface of the rotor. The interaction between the friction material of the brake pad and the rotor generates wear of the friction material and of the rotor by removing brake particulate matter from the friction material and from the rotor and releasing it into the environment. On the one hand, this particulate matter dispersed into the environment can pose a danger to human health, and on the other hand, can be deposited around the braking device, creating particulate stains which are difficult to clean.

[0005] . In order to obviate the problem of brake particulate dispersion, it is known to use particulate filters to be connected to a brake caliper so as to collect the particulate exiting the brake caliper. In particular, the known solutions involve connecting the particulate filter to a disc outlet portion of the caliper body so as to collect particulate matter generated during forward braking actions. For example, a solution of this type is known from EP2102522B1 .

[0006] . This solution only partially meets the problem of dust collection.

[0007] . In the industry, the need is felt to increase the brake particulate collection efficiency while keeping the overall size of the assembly comprising the brake caliper and particulate filter small, and avoiding hindering the dissipation of heat generated by the brake pads and the brake disc during the braking action.

[0008] . Solution

[0009] . It is an object of the present invention to provide a particulate filter and a brake caliper assembly, which allow obviating at least some of the drawbacks highlighted in the prior art.

[0010] . These and other objects are achieved by a particulate filter and a brake caliper assembly according to the independent claims.

[0011] . Some advantageous embodiments are the subject of the dependent claims.

[0012] . By virtue of the suggested solutions, a simplified reversible connection between the filtering assembly and the particulate filter support structure is possible by means of a wire spring.

[0013] . By virtue of the suggested solutions, the filtering assembly can be removed to bereplaced by reusing the wire spring to couple it to the support structure.

[0014] . By virtue of the suggested solutions, it is possible to retain the filtering assembly connected to the support structure, providing a frame for the filtering assembly, where the wire spring is elastically tightened to the support structure preventing it from detaching when using the brake caliper.

[0015] . By virtue of the suggested solutions, it is possible to remove the filtered assembly easily with a wire spring couplable to and uncouplable from the support structure without providing additional fixing elements with threaded portions, for example avoiding screws and fixing nuts.

[0016] . By virtue of the suggested solutions, it is possible to provide a particulate filter having a high collection efficiency of the particulate matter generated during the braking action.

[0017] . By virtue of the suggested solutions, it is possible to provide a highly versatile particulate filter, usable and interchangeable on right-side vehicle wheels and on left-side vehicle wheels.

[0018] . By virtue of the suggested solutions, it is possible to provide a particulate filter easily and reversibly connectable to the brake caliper, avoiding undesired movements of the particulate filter when using the vehicle and the brake caliper.
