[0054] The support of NR (New Radio) MBS (Multicast and Broadcast Service) was introduced to 5G. An MBS service targets more than one UE (User Equipment) in one cell, and it is applied to serve multiple UEs by PTM (Point-to-Multipoint) transmission, thereby reaching higher resource efficiency. At this stage, the UE can receive the MBS multicast service only in RRC (Radio Resource Control) _CONNECTED state, for example based on the configuration in the RRCReconfiguration message.

[0055] It is expected to enable the UE to start or continue the MBS reception even in RRC_INACTIVE state, to enable the best scalability.

[0056] To enable a better service continuity for UE, "PDCP (Packet Data Convergence Protocol) entities of the MRB (Multicast Radio Bearer) " or the "MRBs" may be continued in various cases, e.g., when the UE is released from RRC_CONNECTED state to RRC_INACTIVE state (e.g., the UE transits from RRC_CONNECTED state to RRC_INACTIVE state) , it receives possibly an updated PTM configuration in the RRCRelease message, or when the PTM configuration is updated, the UE receives this updated PTM configuration in the multicast MCCH (MBS Control Channel) , or when the UE resumes to RRC_CONNECTED state, it receives new PTM configuration from a dedicated signaling. The above-mentioned cases can be called “PDCP entities of the MRB continued” , which, in this application, means the PDCP variables are not initialized. The terminology “PDCP continued” or “MRB continued” is interchangeable in this application.

[0057] Some embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods for the UE to be notified of the “PDCP entities of the MRB continued” in above-described scenarios, and methods for the UE to have the PDCP entities continued (namely the specific UE behaviour) .

[0058] In some embodiments, from the perspective of the base station, gNB (gNodeB) is able to provide the UE with the PTM configuration of the MBS to be received in RRC_INACTIVE state in two following scenarios, multicast data transmission being continued / ongoing and multicast data transmission being stopped / not ongoing. In the split deployment architecture where RAN (Radio Access Network) consists of gNB-CU (gNB-Central Unit) and gNB-DU (gNB-Distributed Unit) , an F1AP (F1 Application Protocol) solution is also needed so that the coordination between the gNB-CU and gNB-DU can be reached to provide the PTM configuration to be used in the RRCRelease message for the UE, which is to be released to RRC_INACTIVE state (e.g., the UE enters RRC_INACTIVE state) .

[0059] For a UE that has joined one multicast session, the network (e.g., gNB) may enable the multicast reception in RRC_INACTIVE state. For the UE to be released to RRC_INACTIVE state, it can receive the PTM configuration for the MBS in the RRCRelease message, in either of the following scenarios:

[0060] In the first scenario, in which the multicast session is still ongoing (e.g., the multicast session is in active state) , the UE may have received the PTM configuration in RRCReconfiguration message in RRC_CONNECTED state. After the UE is released to RRC_INACTIVE state, the UE can receive the PTM configuration in RRCRelease message and apply this PTM configuration, until this PTM configuration is updated in the MCCH message.

[0061] In the second scenario, in which the multicast session is not ongoing (e.g., the multicast session is deactivated) , the PTM configuration is sent to the UE to initiate the MBS multicast reception in RRC_INACITVE state, through a specific group paging indicated from network for the corresponding MBS service.

[0062] Based on the scenarios described above, it can be summarized that the UE may get a PTM configuration through the following messages:

[0063] - UE may get a PTM configuration from network in the RRCReconfiguration message;

[0064] - UE may get another PTM configuration from network in the RRCRelease message;

[0065] - UE may get another PTM configuration from network in the multicast MCCH being broadcasted in the cell;

[0066] - UE may get another PTM configuration (an update of the previous PTM configuration) from network in the multicast MCCH being broadcasted in the cell, which can be current cell or another cell after  cell re-selection; and

[0067] - UE may resume to RRC_CONNECTED state and get an updated PTM configuration from the network in the RRCReconfiguration message.

[0068] During UE transiting between different scenarios, the PTM configuration can be sent to it through different solutions, which makes sure that "PDCP entities of the MRB" or the "MRBs" is continued, e.g., when the UE is released from RRC_CONNECTED state into RRC_INACTIVE state, it receives a possibly updated PTM configuration in the RRCRelease message, if the PTM configuration is updated, the UE can get the updated PTM configuration in the MCCH, and if the UE resumes to RRC_CONNECTED state, it can receive an updated PTM configuration from the dedicated signaling, which may be a RRCReconfiguration message.

[0069] In the present application, the PTM configuration may include the following information:

[0070] - the MRB configuration or higher layer / upper layer configuration, which further includes the PDCP configuration and / or RLC configuration (Radio Link Control configuration) ,

[0071] - the lower layer configuration, which further includes the MAC (Media Access Control) and physical layer configuration, e.g., the DRX (Discontinuous Reception) configuration and the PDCCH (Physical Downlink Control Channel)  / PDSCH (Physical Data Shared Channel) configuration, and

[0072] - other information that guides the UE for the MBS multicast reception.

[0073] In the paragraphs below, some aspects of the present disclosure are provided, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto. Besides, different aspects described below can be combined unless expressly stated otherwise.

[0074] Aspect 1 -PDCP continuity

[0075] #explicit indication

[0076] Some embodiments of the present application provide a wireless communication method indicating the continuation of PDCP entities in RRC_INACTIVE state. Specifically, the method comprises:

[0077] receiving, by a wireless communication device, a Radio Resource Control Release message, RRCRelease message,

[0078] wherein the RRCRelease message comprises an indication, which is associated with a multicast session the wireless communication device has joined and informs the wireless communication device a  continuation of the multicast session.

[0079] In some embodiments, the UE has joined one multicast session, in which the network may enable the UE with multicast reception in RRC_INACTIVE state. If this UE is then released to RRC_INACTIVE state, it can receive the PTM configuration for the MBS multicast in a RRCRelease message. If the PTM configuration is included the RRCRelease message, an explicit indication or an indication associated with the MBS multicast session informs the UE that the multicast session is continued.

[0080] In some embodiments of this application, the continuation of the multicast session may comprise the continuation of the PDCP entities of the MRBs in the multicast.

[0081] Based on this explicit indication / indication, the UE continues the MBS multicast reception during the RRC Release phase, ensuring that the PDCP entities for the MRBs in the corresponding MBS session are continued from RRC_CONNECTED state to RRC_INACTIVE state. In some embodiments, the expression “the PDCP entities are continued” means that the PDCP variables are not initialized.

[0082] In some embodiments of the present application, the RRCRelease message may additionally comprise an RLC configuration, which enables that the RLC entities associated with these PDCP entities are released and established accordingly.

[0083] #implicit indication based on the availability of the MRB configuration

[0084] Another wireless communication method is disclosed, which indicates the continuation of the multicast session in an implicit way. Specifically, the method comprises:

[0085] receiving, by a wireless communication device, a Point to Multi-Point, PTM configuration message,

[0086] wherein the PTM configuration message informs the wireless communication device an initialization of a multicast session or a continuation of a multicast session the wireless communication device has joined, wherein the PTM configuration comprises MRB configuration or lower layer configuration.

[0087] In some embodiments of the present application, the initialization / continuation of a multicast session comprises the initialization / continuation of PDCP entities or MRBs.

[0088] Depending on whether the MRB configuration is included in the PTM configuration message, the UE can be indicated to the continuation of the PDCP entities or not. If the MRB configuration is included  in the PTM configuration, the UE can apply the MRB configuration, which means that the PDCP entities may be initialized based on the MRB configuration in the PTM configuration. By contrast, if the MRB configuration is absent in the PTM configuration message, while the lower layer configuration is present, the UE is indicated with PDCP entities continuity, from RRC_CONNECTED state to RRC_INACTIVE state. In this way, the PDCP variables are not initialized (since the MRB configuration is absent) .

[0089] In some embodiments of the present application, the PTM configuration message can be received by the UE either through an RRCRelease message or through a multicast MCCH message. For the latter situation, the UE has been already in RRC_INACTIVE state, and continuously monitors multicast MCCH for any potential updated PTM configuration in the multicast MCCH. After receiving the PTM configuration either from the RRCRelease message or from the multicast MCCH message, the UE can be indicated with the continuation of PDCP entities by the availability of the MRB configuration in the PTM configuration message. If the MRB configuration is present in the RRCRelease message or multicast MCCH message, the UE may apply this MRB configuration, which represents the initialization of PDCP entities.

[0090] In some embodiments, the implicit indication can also be determined through checking whether the PDCP configuration is available or comprised in the MRB configuration. If the PDCP configuration is included in the MRB configuration, the UE may apply this updated PDCP configuration, which means that the PDCP entities may be initialized based on this configuration. Whereas, if the MRB configuration is absent from the PTM configuration but the lower layer configuration is included in the PTM configuration, the UE is then informed with the PDCP continuation, which means that the PDCP entities for the MRBs of corresponding MBS session may be continued from RRC_CONNECTED state to RRC_INACTIVE state. In this condition, the PDCP variables are not initialized.

[0091] In some embodiments, the MRB configuration can additionally comprise an RLC configuration, based on the release and / or establishment of RLC entities associated with the PDCP entities can be enabled.

[0092] #UE checks whether the MRB configurations are the same or not

[0093] Another wireless communication method is disclosed, which indicates the continuation of the  multicast session in another way. Specifically, the method comprises:

[0094] receiving, by a wireless communication device, a PTM configuration message, and

[0095] comparing, by the wireless communication device, an MRB configuration included in the received PTM configuration with a previously received MRB configuration,

[0096] wherein the continuation of a multicast session, which the wireless communication device has joined, is determined when the MRB configuration in the received PTM configuration is the same with the previously received MRB.

[0097] In some embodiments, the PTM configuration message is received by the UE from the RRCRelease message.

[0098] Specifically, in some embodiments, the UE may check whether the MRB configuration included in the RRCRelease message is the same as another MRB configuration received in RRCReconfiguration message. In particular, the RRCReconfiguration may be received by the UE in RRC_CONNECTED state, as described above. If the PDCP configurations in the two MRB configurations, respectively received in RRCRelease message and RRCReconfiguration message, are different, the UE may apply the MRB configuration in the RRCRelease message, which means that the PDCP entities may be initialized based on the updated configuration in the RRCRelease message. By contrast, if the PDCP configuration in both the MRB configuration is the same, then the UE is indicated with the PDCP continuity, which means the PDCP entities for the MRBs of the corresponding MBS session may be continued from RRC_CONNECTED state to RRC_INACTIVE state. In this condition, due to the same PDCP configuration, the PDCP variables are not initialized.

[0099] In some embodiments, the UE may have already started the multicast reception in RRC_INACTIVE state based on the PTM configuration in the RRCReconfiguration message, RRCRelease message or MCCH message. During this process, once there is any PTM configuration update, the MCCH and the UE may be notified. The UE may check whether the MRB configuration in MCCH is the same as the MRB configuration previously received through the RRCReconfiguration message, RRCRelease message or MCCH message. When the MRB configurations in these messages are different, the UE may apply the updated MRB configuration included in the MCCH, which means the PDCP entities may be initialized based on the updated MRB configuration. By contrast, when the MRB configurations in these messages are the same, the UE is indicated with the PDCP continuity, which means the PDCP entities for the MRBs of the corresponding MBS  session may be continued. The PDCP variables are not initialized.

[0100] In some embodiments, the UE may have already started the multicast reception in RRC _INACTIVE state based on the PTM configuration in the RRCReconfiguration message. Once the UE is released to RRC_INACTIVE state, even the MRB is not suspended (i.e., PDCP entities of the MRBs for one session is continued) , the MRB ID is kept as part of the UE contexts, and may be used by network in later configurations, e.g., MRB ID change, or MRB release based on the MRB ID in the RRCReconfiguration before the UE is released.

[0101] In some embodiments, the UE may be notified in the RRCRelease message that for the cells in the RAN notification area (RNA) are synchronized. That means with mobility among the cells in the RNA, the PDCP of the MRB for the session are to be continued. When the UE moves from one cell to another cell in the RNA area, the UE may receive the PTM configuration with a different lower layer configuration, but the network ensures the MRB configuration or the PDCP configuration is the same, and with the same order. For example, in the cells that belong to the RNA area, the MRB list includes a list of MRB with index from 1 to 3, each MRB is with an MRB configuration (which further includes the corresponding PDCP configuration) . For each cell, the PDCP configuration provided in each cell are the same, with the same order in the MRB list.

[0102] #UE User plane behaviors

[0103] A wireless communication method is disclosed to enable the UE to correctly transmit the data in the uplink way. The wireless communication method comprises:

[0104] transmitting a Media Access Control Packet Data Unit, MAC SDU, by a wireless communication device in RRC_INACTIVE layer, to RLC entity and PDCP entity, wherein the wireless communication device is indicated with continuation of PDCP entities, wherein the transmission is based on an original association between the RLC entity and the PDCP entity.

[0105] In some embodiments, the indication of continuation for PDCP entities for the UE can be realized or processed based on any of the claims described above.

[0106] Specifically, once the UE starts to receive the MBS in RRC_INACTIVE state, one of the issues is that how the UE may associate the MAC SDU (Service Data Unit) received in MAC layer to the right logic channel, which is identified by logic channel ID or LCID (Logical Channel ID) , and then to the right PDCP entities, which can be identified by the MRB ID (Multicast Radio Bearers ID) . However, there does not exist  MRB ID for the MRB configured for the UE’s RRC_INACTIVE state. It can be assumed that the UE was receiving the multicast session based on the relation MRB ID = y, LCID = x, which (MRB ID = y, LCID = x) is configured by the network in the RRCReconfiguration message (see FIG. 1) , which can be received in RRC_CONNECTED state. Whenever the UE receives a MAC SDU in the MAC layer, in which the LCID = x is included in the MAC sub-header, it delivers the MAC SDU to the associated RLC entity based on the LCID in the MAC subheader, and then to the PDCP entity identified by the corresponding MRB ID = y, based on the above established relation. If the PDCP entities need to be continued either based on the configuration in RRCRelease message or MCCH message when the UE steps into the RRC_INACTIVE state, the UE may deliver the RLC SDU (Service Data Unit) to the associated PDCP entities based on original relation or association between the RLC entity and the PDCP entity described above, instead of based on the association LCID and MRB ID.

[0107] In some embodiments of the present application, the original relation or association between the RLC entity and the PDCP entity can be configured in the RRCReconfiguration message, which can be received by the UE in RRC_ACTIVE state.

[0108] Aspect 2 -F1AP support on PTM configuration allocation

[0109] Another wireless communication method is disclosed to set up the F1AP (F1 Application Protocol) support, which provides the signaling service between a gNB-CU and a gNB-DU for the PTM configuration described in the present application.

[0110] The wireless communication method comprises:

[0111] receiving, by a first wireless communication node, an instruction associated with an enablement of a multicast session in RRC_INACTIVE state of a wireless communication device,

[0112] wherein the first wireless communication node is indicated with the state of the multicast transmission of the wireless communication device.

[0113] In some embodiments, the state of the multicast transmission comprises the state of the multicast transmission ongoing or the state of the multicast transmission not ongoing. For example, the gNB-CU may indicate the gNB-DU whether the multicast transmission of the UE is ongoing or not.

[0114] Specifically, in situations of split network architectures, where the gNodeB is divided into the gNB-CU (Central Unit) and the gNB-DU (Distributed Unit) , once the network or gNB-CU makes the decision  to enable the UE with multicast reception in RRC_INACTIVE state, the coordination between the gNB-CU and gNB-DU is needed to enable the gNB-DU to provide the lower layer part included in the PTM configuration.

[0115] Specifically, in the case where the multicast session in RRC_INACTIVE state is ongoing, the network may provide PTM configuration for corresponding multicast session to the UE in the RRCRelease message. For example, the gNB-CU may indicate the gNB-DU that such a configuration (PTM configuration) is needed. Based on this instruction, the gNB-DU can decide to respond with the requested PTM configuration.

[0116] In the case where the multicast session in RRC_INACTIVE state is not ongoing, which includes the situation where the multicast session is deactivated or there is temporarily no data, the network may still configure the UE with the PTM configuration in the RRCRelease message. With this pre-configured PTM configuration, the UE is able to start the MBS multicast reception in the RRC_INACTIVE state upon a specific group paging as indicated from the network for the corresponding MBS service, until the UE receives any PTM configuration through other channels (for example, MCCH) . Such a configuration in the RRCRelease message can be named as pre-configuration which is established for a not-ongoing multicast session and to be used by the UE in RRC_INACTIVE state.

[0117] In some embodiments, the gNB-CU indicates to the gNB-DU that the multicast session is not ongoing. Based on this information, the gNB-DU may stop the corresponding MBS transmission and indicate this information of stop of the MBS transmission in the MCCH broadcast on UE interface.

[0118] In some embodiments, the gNB-CU further indicates to the gNB-DU that the PTM configuration for the not ongoing MBS session is needed. Upon this instruction, the gNB-DU can decide to respond with the requested PTM configuration, or the gNB-DU can decide that the requested PTM configuration is not available, or this pre-configuration function cannot be supported. Alternatively, the gNB-DU may also be triggered to provide the pre-configuration proactively to the gNB-CU if it was requested.

[0119] FIG. 2 relates to a diagram of a wireless communication device 30 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The wireless communication device 30 may be a tag, a mobile phone, a laptop, a tablet computer, an electronic book or a portable computer system and is not limited herein. The wireless communication device 30 may be used to implement the UE described in this disclosure. The wireless communication device 30 may include a processor 300 such as a microprocessor or Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) , a storage unit 310 and a communication unit 320. The storage unit 310 may be any  data storage device that stores a program code 312, which is accessed and executed by the processor 300. Embodiments of the storage code 312 include but are not limited to a subscriber identity module (SIM) , read-only memory (ROM) , flash memory, random-access memory (RAM) , hard-disk, and optical data storage device. The communication unit 320 may a transceiver and is used to transmit and receive signals (e.g., messages or packets) according to processing results of the processor 300. In an embodiment, the communication unit 320 transmits and receives the signals via at least one antenna 322 or via wiring.

[0120] In an embodiment, the storage unit 310 and the program code 312 may be omitted and the processor 300 may include a storage unit with stored program code.

[0121] The processor 300 may implement any one of the steps in exemplified embodiments on the wireless communication device 30, e.g., by executing the program code 312.

[0158] Details in this regard can be ascertained with reference to the paragraphs above, and will not be repeated herein.

[0159] In some embodiments, the wireless communication device used in the present disclosure may  indicate the UE described above.

[0160] In some embodiments, the wireless communication node used in the present disclosure may indicate the gNB described above.

[0161] In some embodiments, the first unit used in the present disclosure may indicate the gNB-DU described above.

[0162] In some embodiments, the second unit used in the present disclosure may indicate the gNB-CU described above.

[0163] In some embodiments, the continuation of the PDCP entities used in the present disclosure may indicate the condition that the PDCP entities are continued described above.

[0164] While various embodiments of the present disclosure have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not by way of limitation. Likewise, the various diagrams may depict an example architectural or configuration, which are provided to enable persons of ordinary skill in the art to understand exemplary features and functions of the present disclosure. Such persons would understand, however, that the present disclosure is not restricted to the illustrated example architectures or configurations, but can be implemented using a variety of alternative architectures and configurations. Additionally, as would be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art, one or more features of one embodiment can be combined with one or more features of another embodiment described herein. Thus, the breadth and scope of the present disclosure should not be limited by any one of the above-described exemplary embodiments.

[0165] It is understood that, in the present disclosure, the term “and / or” or symbol “ / ” may include any and all combinations of one or more of the associated listed items. For example, A and / or B and / or C includes any and all combinations of one or more of A, B, and C, including A, B, C, A and B, A and C, B and C, and a combination of A and B and C. Likewise, A / B / C includes any and all combinations of one or more of A, B, and C, including A, B, C, A and B, A and C, B and C, and a combination of A and B and C.

[0166] It is also understood that any reference to an element herein using a designation such as "first, " "second, " and so forth does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. Rather, these designations can be used herein as a convenient means of distinguishing between two or more elements or instances of an element. Thus, a reference to first and second elements does not mean that only two elements can be employed, or that the first element must precede the second element in some manner.

[0167] Additionally, a person having ordinary skill in the art would understand that information and signals can be represented using any one of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits and symbols, for example, which may be referenced in the above description can be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.

[0168] A skilled person would further appreciate that any one of the various illustrative logical blocks, units, processors, means, circuits, methods and functions described in connection with the aspects disclosed herein can be implemented by electronic hardware (e.g., a digital implementation, an analog implementation, or a combination of the two) , firmware, various forms of program or design code incorporating instructions (which can be referred to herein, for convenience, as "software" or a "software unit” ) , or any combination of these techniques.

[0169] To clearly illustrate this interchangeability of hardware, firmware and software, various illustrative components, blocks, units, circuits, and steps have been described above generally in terms of their functionality. Whether such functionality is implemented as hardware, firmware or software, or a combination of these techniques, depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system. Skilled artisans can implement the described functionality in various ways for each particular application, but such implementation decisions do not cause a departure from the scope of the present disclosure. In accordance with various embodiments, a processor, device, component, circuit, structure, machine, unit, etc. can be configured to perform one or more of the functions described herein. The term “configured to” or “configured for” as used herein with respect to a specified operation or function refers to a processor, device, component, circuit, structure, machine, unit, etc. that is physically constructed, programmed and / or arranged to perform the specified operation or function.

[0170] Furthermore, a skilled person would understand that various illustrative logical blocks, units, devices, components and circuits described herein can be implemented within or performed by an integrated circuit (IC) that can include a general-purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, or any combination thereof. The logical blocks, units, and circuits can further include antennas and / or transceivers to communicate with various components within the network or within the device. A general-purpose processor can be a microprocessor, but in the alternative, the processor can be any conventional processor, controller, or state machine. A processor can also be implemented as a combination of  computing devices, e.g., a combination of a DSP and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other suitable configuration to perform the functions described herein. If implemented in software, the functions can be stored as one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium. Thus, the steps of a method or algorithm disclosed herein can be implemented as software stored on a computer-readable medium.

[0171] Computer-readable media includes both computer storage media and communication media including any medium that can be enabled to transfer a computer program or code from one place to another. A storage media can be any available media that can be accessed by a computer. By way of example, and not limitation, such computer-readable media can include RAM, ROM, EEPROM, CD-ROM or other optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage or other magnetic storage devices, or any other medium that can be used to store desired program code in the form of instructions or data structures and that can be accessed by a computer.

[0172] In this document, the term "unit" as used herein, refers to software, firmware, hardware, and any combination of these elements for performing the associated functions described herein. Additionally, for purpose of discussion, the various units are described as discrete units; however, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, two or more units may be combined to form a single unit that performs the associated functions according to embodiments of the present disclosure.
