Description

TIMING ADVANCE REPORT FOR HALF-DUPLEX USER EQUIPMENT

[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to a timing advance report (TAR) for a half-duplex (HD) user equipment (UE) .BACKGROUND

[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations, which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication devices, such as a base station may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G) ) .

[0003] Non-terrestrial network (NTN) refers to a network, or segment of networks using radio frequency (RF) resources on board a satellite. The satellite in the NTN can be a geostationary earth orbiting (GEO ) satellite with fixed location to the earth, or a low earth orbiting (LEO) satellite orbiting around the earth. 3GPP Rel-17 specifications have provided basic support of NTN features and in Rel-18 further enhancements are being studied. For Rel-19 NTN enhancements, in order to help network in scheduling uplink resources for a UE, the TAR was introduced to allow the UE to report its calculated timing advance (TA) . However, there are some issues for the TAR to be addressed.SUMMARY

[0059] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0060] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the  application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0061] In the wireless communications system 100A, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100A (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0062] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100A, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0063] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some  implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0064] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100A. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0065] In the wireless communications system 100A, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100A may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0066] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0067] In order to help network in scheduling uplink resources for a UE, the TAR was introduced to allow the UE to report its calculated timing advance (TA) . The TA at UE side is based on a common TA determined by decoding system information block 19 (SIB19) and a UE-specific TA determined based on a satellite position and a UE position. The TA at gNB side is determined based on a TAR of a UE carried by a MAC CE. The TAR is at slot-level (0.5ms, 1ms, 2ms, etc. ) . Due to the TAR granularity, the frequency and satellite &UE movement, the TA applied at the UE side may be different from the TA applied at gNB side based on UE report, e.g., the TAR. Such mismatch may impact on time domain resource for DL reception and UL transmission at UE side and gNB side, especially for half-duplex UEs, e.g., half-duplex frequency division duplexing (HD-FDD) reduced capability (RedCap) UEs.

[0068] As shown in FIG. 1B, gNB assumes the UE timing based on the TAR of the UE.In an ideal situation, the TA reported by the UE is 6ms, and there is no conflict between DL reception and UL transmission. However, there may be a mismatch between the UE side and the gNB side in actual situations, and there is a conflict between DL reception and UL transmission. For example, the actual TA of the UE becomes shorter after TAR is transmitted. For the actual UE timing#1, the actual TA of the UE changes from 6ms to 5 ms. For the actual UE timing#2, the actual TA of the UE changes from 6ms to 4.5 ms. It is to be understood that the TA is only for the purpose of illustration, the actual TA of the UE may be 12ms-270ms for NTN.

[0069] It has been proposed to introduce finer granularity TAR (e.g., symbol-level TAR) , allow more frequent TAR, configure mandatory TAR, report additional information of TAR (e.g., TA drift and / or UE position) and introducing guard time to avoid collision. Among these potential solutions, introducing symbol-level TAR is the  more favorable solution and other enhancements to TAR are also possible as supplement, while the guard time option is not that popular as it sacrifices UL / DL resources that can be used.

[0070] For satellite beam management in NR NTN, assuming that finer granularity TAR at least for symbol-level will be introduced for half-duplex UEs in the NTN, potential issues may be brought by the new TAR (e.g., a dedicated TAR for half-duplex UEs, ) for TAR handling. Considering both options of independent dedicated TAR and the co-existence of dedicated TAR (hereinafter may also be referred to as enhanced TAR) and common TAR (hereinafter may also be referred to as legacy TAR) , there are some issues to be solved for RRC and MAC layers.

[0071] For the triggering of a common TAR, the following mechanism is specified. At RRC layer, the gNB may configure a parameter ta-Report in SIB19 or a dedicated signalling to enable a common TAR for UE. When ta-Report is included in SIB19, it indicates the common TAR is enabled during random access due to RRC connection establishment, resume, and reestablishment. When ta-Report is included in ServingCellConfigCommon within a dedicated signalling, it indicates a common TAR is enabled during random access due to reconfiguration with synchronization.

[0072] At MAC layer, a common TAR shall be triggered if any of the following events occur: upon receiving an indication from upper layers (e.g., RRC layer) to trigger a common TAR; upon configuration of offsetThresholdTA by upper layers (e.g., RRC layer) , the UE has not previously reported TA value to current serving Cell; the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the last reported TA value is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA if configured.

[0073] It is to be solved that how to determine TAR behavior for the dedicated TAR, and the dedicated TAR is independent to a common TAR or associated with the common TAR. Considering that the dedicated TAR may work independently to the common TAR (e.g., representing absolute TA value) or together with the common TAR (e.g., representing TA value variation compared to common TAR) , the following behaviors need to be specified.

[0074] It is to be determined whether the dedicated TAR for HD UEs follows the control of ta-Report or not. For example, if ta-Report is configured as enabled, it is to be  determine whether the dedicated TAR will be triggered. If ta-Report is not configured, it is also to be determine whether the dedicated TAR will be triggered.

[0075] It is also to be determined whether the dedicated TAR for HD UE follows the control of offsetThresholdTA or not. And if yes, it is to be determined whether the dedicated TAR is involved in determining “UE has not previously reported TA value to current serving Cell” or “the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the last reported TA value” .

[0076] If other new triggering condition is introduced for the dedicated TAR, it is to be determined whether common TAR in involved in determination of condition fulfillment, and whether common TAR can be triggered as well.

[0077] In addition, if the dedicated TAR is reported via a MAC CE, it is to be solved that how to determine the multiplexing and assembly procedure and SR behavior considering a dedicated TAR MAC CE (i.e., a MAC CE carrying the dedicated TAR) , and the dedicated TAR MAC CE may independent to a common TAR MAC CE for the or associated with a common TAR MAC CE.

[0078] The common TAR is reported via a common TAR MAC CE (i.e., a MAC CE carrying the common TAR) , and the multiplexing and assembly procedure and SR for the common TAR MAC CE is as follows:

[0079] If a MAC CE option is adopted to report the dedicated TAR MAC CE, considering that the dedicated TAR MAC CE may work independently to a common TAR  MAC CE (e.g., carrying absolute TA value) or together with a common TAR MAC CE (e.g., carrying TA value variation compared to the value in the common TAR MAC CE) , the following behaviors need to be specified.

[0080] For a dedicated TAR for HD UE triggered and not cancelled, it is to be determined whether the UL-SCH resources need to accommodate only the dedicated TAR MAC CE or both the common TAR MAC CE and the dedicated TAR MAC CE.

[0081] If the UL-SCH resources cannot accommodate the dedicated TAR MAC CE or both the common TAR MAC CE and the dedicated TAR MAC CE, it is to be determined whether an SR can be triggered. More specifically, it is further to be determined whether it can be controlled by timingAdvanceSR.

[0082] When a dedicated TAR MAC CE is to be transmitted, the MAC PDU containing rules and the TAR cancellation rules with respect to this dedicated TAR MAC CE need to be further specified.

[0083] Moreover, if the dedicated TAR is reported via a MAC CE, it is to be determined that how to design the dedicated TAR MAC CE, and the dedicated TAR MAC CE may be independent to or associated with the common TAR MAC CE.

[0084] FIG. 1C illustrates an example format of the common TAR MAC CE associated with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 1C, common TAR MAC CE is identified by MAC subheader with LCID. It has a fixed size and consists of two octets defined as follows: R: Reserved bit, set to 0; Timing Advance: in FR1 except for ATG (air to ground) , the Timing Advance field indicates the least integer number of slots, using subcarrier spacing of 15 kHz, greater than or equal to the Timing Advance value.

[0085] Additionally, the logical channel priority of the common / legacy TAR MAC CE is:

[0086] …

[0087] MAC CE for LBT failure;

[0088] MAC CE for SL LBT failure according to clause 5.31.2;

[0089] MAC CE for Timing Advance Report;

[0090] MAC CE for Delay Status Report;

[0091] MAC CE for SL-BSR prioritized according to clause 5.22.1.6;

[0092] …

[0093] It is to be noted that the prioritization among MAC CEs of the same priority is up to the UE implementation.

[0094] Besides, the TA value in the dedicated TAR MAC CE may be at symbol-level or a combination of symbol-level and slot-level. Therefore, it is need to be specified that how to design the format of the dedicated TAR MAC CE for HD UE. The dedicated TAR MAC CE is required to include at least 4-bit representing 0~14 symbols and is expected to include additional bits representing more symbols or slots. It is need to be further specified the logic channel priority of dedicated TAR MAC CE.

[0095] In view of the above discussions, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for a TAR for a half-duplex UE. In one aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a user equipment receives a configuration of a TAR from a base station, and the UE is a half-duplex UE in an NTN. The user equipment triggers a first TAR dedicated for half-duplex UEs to the base station. In this way, a TAR dedicated for half-duplex UE is triggered and the mismatch is mitigated. Therefore, the performance of communication is improved. Principles and implementations of embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 2A-8.

[0096] FIG. 2A illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 200A in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 200A may involve the user equipment 201 and the base station 202. The UE 201 in FIG. 2A may be an example of UE 104 in FIG. 1A . The base station 202 in FIG. 2A may be an example of a network entity 102 in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 200A is applied to in the communication environment 100A of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios with similar issues.

[0097] In the process 200A, the base station 202 may determine 210 a configuration of a TAR, and transmit 215 the configuration of the TAR 220 to the UE 201. The UE 201 is a half-duplex UE. The configuration of the TAR 220 may be used for the dedicated TAR, the common TAR, or the dedicated TAR and the common TAR.

[0098] The configuration of the TAR 220 may involve trigger conditions of dedicated TARs and the scheduling of a MAC CE. In some embodiments, the configuration of the TAR 220 may comprise a first parameter for enabling the first TAR dedicated for half-duplex UEs, e.g., ta-Report_HD; a second parameter for triggering the first TAR, e.g., offsetThresholdTA_HD; a third parameter for enabling a second TAR for half-duplex UEs and full-duplex UEs in the NTN, e.g., ta-Report; a fourth parameter for triggering the second TAR, e.g., offsetThresholdTA; a fifth parameter for enabling a SR for a first MAC CE dedicated for carrying the first TAR, e.g., timingAdvanceSR_HD; a sixth parameter for enabling a SR for a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, e.g., timingAdvanceSR; a seventh parameter indicating the UE to report the first TAR with the second MAC CE, e.g., symbolLevelTA, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items.

[0099] The first TAR may refer to the dedicated TAR, and the second TAR may refer to the common TAR. In addition, the first MAC CE dedicated for carrying the first TAR may refer to the dedicated TAR MAC CE hereinafter, and the second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR may refer to the common TAR MAC CE hereinafter.

[0100] Continuing with reference to FIG. 2A, after receiving 225 the configuration of a TAR 220 from the base station 202, the UE 201 triggers 230 a first TAR dedicated for half-duplex UEs to the base station 202.

[0101] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may trigger the first TAR based on receiving the first parameter or receiving the first parameter indicating that the first TAR is enabled. For example, the base station 202 may signal the UE 201 the first parameter dedicated to enable a first TAR for half-duplex UEs in system information or a dedicated signalling. If the UE 201 is a HD-FDD RedCap UE, the first parameter may trigger a first TAR dedicated for HD-FDD RedCap UE upon receiving the first parameter or upon receiving the first parameter configured as “enabled” .

[0102] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may trigger the first TAR based on receiving the second parameter, and the first TAR having not been reported, the second TAR having not been reported, or the first TAR or the second TAR having not been reported. For example, the base station 202 signals the UE 201 a second parameter dedicated to trigger a first TAR for half-duplex UEs in system information or a dedicated signalling. If the UE 201 is a HD-FDD RedCap UE, the second parameter may trigger a  first TAR dedicated for HD-FDD RedCap UE when the UE 201 has not previously reported a dedicated TAR, or a common TAR, or dedicated or common TAR to current serving cell of the UE 201.

[0103] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may trigger the first TAR based on a variation between an estimated TA value and a TA value in a last reported first TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the second parameter, a variation between an estimated TA value and a TA value in a last reported second TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the second parameter, a variation between an estimated TA value and a sum of a TA value in a last reported first TAR and a TA value in a last reported second TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the second parameter, a variation between an estimated TA value and a sum of TA values in reported first TARs and a TA value in a last reported second TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the second parameter, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items. The estimated TA value may be the current estimate of the TA value calculated or derived by the UE 201.

[0104] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may trigger the first TAR based on determining that a second TAR is triggered, receiving the third parameter, and the third parameter indicates that the second TAR is enabled, or a combination of the above-mentioned items. For example, a HD-FDD RedCap UE may trigger a first TAR dedicated for HD-FDD RedCap UE together with a common TAR upon receiving the third parameter (i.e., ta-Report) for enabling a common TAR for all UEs in the NTN configured as “enabled” .

[0105] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may trigger the first TAR based on receiving the fourth parameter, and at least one of the first TAR or the second TAR having not been reported. For example, a HD-FDD RedCap UE may trigger a first TAR dedicated for HD-FDD RedCap UE upon receiving the fourth parameter, and the HD-FDD RedCap UE has not previously reported the dedicated TAR to current serving cell.

[0106] In some embodiments, the UE 201 may trigger the first TAR based on a variation between an estimated TA value and a TA value in a last reported first TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the fourth parameter, a variation between an estimated TA value and a sum of a TA value in a last reported first TAR and a TA value in a last reported second TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the fourth parameter, a variation between an estimated TA value and a sum of TA values in reported first TARs  and a TA value in a last reported second TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the fourth parameter, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items. The estimated TA value may be the current estimate of the TA value calculated or derived by the UE 201.

[0107] Alternatively or additionally, the UE 201 may further trigger a second TAR based on determining that a first TAR is triggered. For example, if a dedicated TAR works together with a common TAR for all UEs in the NTN, a common TAR may be triggered together with the dedicated TAR.

[0108] In addition, the UE 201 may further trigger a second TAR based on receiving the fourth parameter, and the first TAR having not been reported. If received the fourth parameter (i.e., offsetThresholdTA) for triggering a common TAR for all UEs in the NTN, a HD UE may trigger a common TAR upon receiving the fourth parameter, the UE has not previously reported dedicated TAR, or dedicated or common TAR to current serving cell.

[0109] Additionally, the UE 201 may further trigger a second TAR based on a variation between an estimated TA value and a TA value in a last reported first TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the fourth parameter, a variation between an estimated TA value and a sum of a TA value in a last reported first TAR and a TA value in a last reported second TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the fourth parameter, a variation between an estimated TA value and a sum of TA values in reported first TARs and a TA value in a last reported second TAR being equal to or larger than a value of the fourth parameter, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items.

[0110] For the case that the first TAR is independent to the second TAR, the trigger condition of the first TAR may be dedicated, i.e., the trigger condition of first TAR is independent to the trigger condition of the second TAR. As mentioned above, a dedicated parameter ta-Report_HD is introduced. If ta-Report_HD is configured as enabled, the first TAR is triggered. A dedicated threshold offsetThresholdTA_HD is introduced. If offsetThresholdTA_HD is configured, the first TAR is triggered if at least one of conditions is fulfilled: the UE 201 has not previously reported the dedicated TAR to current serving cell; the UE 201 has not previously reported the common TAR to current serving cell; the UE 201 has not previously reported the dedicated TAR or the common TAR to current serving cell; the variation between the current estimate of the TA value  and the last reported TA value is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA_HD. The last reported TA value is the TA value reported in the last dedicated TAR, or the TA value reported in the last common TAR, or the TA value reported in the last dedicated TAR plus the TA value reported in the last common TAR, or the sum of all TA values reported in the previous dedicated TARs plus the TA value reported in the last common TAR, e.g., if the dedicated TAR works together with a common TAR (representing a TA value variation compared to the common TAR) . In addition, a common TAR may be triggered as well, e.g., if the dedicated TAR works together with a common TAR (representing a TA value variation compared to the common TAR) .

[0111] For the case that the first TAR is associated with a second TAR, the trigger condition of the first TAR reuses the trigger condition of the second TAR, i.e., the trigger of the first TAR is under control of existing ta-Report and / or offsetThresholdTA. If ta-Report is configured as enabled, the dedicated TAR is triggered along with a common TAR or triggered alone. If the dedicated TAR is triggered alone, the same TAR MAC CE may be used to replace common TAR.

[0112] If offsetThresholdTA is configured, the common TAR may be triggered if at least one of conditions is fulfilled: the UE 201 has not previously reported the common TAR to current serving cell; the UE 201 has not previously reported the dedicated TAR to current serving cell; the UE 201 has not previously reported the dedicated TAR or the common TAR to current serving cell; the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the TA value in the last common TAR is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA; the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the TA value in the last dedicated TAR is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA; the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the TA value in the last dedicated TAR plus the TA value reported in the last common TAR is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA, e.g., if the dedicated TAR works together with common TAR (representing TA value variation compared to the common TAR) ; the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the sum of all TA values in the previous dedicated TARs plus the TA value reported in the last common TAR is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA, e.g., if the dedicated TAR works together with common TAR (representing TA value variation compared to common TAR) .

[0113] If offsetThresholdTA is configured, the dedicated TAR is triggered if at least one of conditions is fulfilled: the common TAR is triggered; the common TAR is not triggered, and the UE 201 has not previously reported dedicated TAR to current serving cell; the common TAR is not triggered, and the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the TA value in the last dedicated TAR is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA; the common TAR is not triggered, and the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the TA value in the last dedicated TAR plus the TA value reported in the last the common TAR is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA, e.g., if the dedicated TAR works together with the common TAR (representing TA value variation compared to the common TAR) ; the common TAR is not triggered, and the variation between the current estimate of the TA value and the sum of all TA values in the previous dedicated TARs plus the TA value reported in the las common TAR is equal to or larger than offsetThresholdTA, e.g., if the dedicated TAR works together with the common TAR (representing TA value variation compared to the common TAR) .

[0114] In some embodiments, the first TAR is carried by the first MAC CE and a first set of uplink resources (e.g., UL-SCH resources) is capable of accommodating a first MAC CE plus a subheader. In this case, a MAC PDU may comprise at most one first MAC CE. In addition, a second set of uplink resources may be capable of accommodating a second MAC CE associated with the first MAC CE. Additionally, at least one triggered first TAR may be cancelled if a MAC PDU is transmitted and the MAC PDU comprises a first MAC CE, or at least one triggered second TAR may be cancelled in the case that a MAC PDU is transmitted and the MAC PDU comprises a first MAC CE, or any combination of the above-mentioned items.

[0115] In an example, the first MAC CE is used to carry the first TAR, and works independently to the second MAC CE. For instance, the first MAC CE may carry an absolute TA value. A MAC PDU may contain at most one dedicated TAR MAC CE. For a dedicated TAR triggered and not cancelled, the UL-SCH resources need to accommodate the dedicated TAR MAC CE for transmission. In addition, all triggered dedicated TAR may be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted and this MAC PDU includes a dedicated TAR MAC CE.

[0116] In another example, the first TAR MAC CE is used to carry the first TAR, and is associated with a common TAR MAC CE. A MAC PDU can contain at most one  common TAR MAC CE OR at most one dedicated TAR MAC CE. For a dedicated TAR triggered and not cancelled, UL-SCH resources need to accommodate the dedicated TAR MAC CE for transmission, and other UL-SCH resources can accommodate the common TAR MAC CE associated to this dedicated TAR MAC CE. All triggered TAR (e.g., the common TAR and the dedicated TAR) may be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted with a dedicated TAR MAC CE included.

[0117] Alternatively or additionally, if the first TAR is carried by the first MAC CE, and a set of uplink resources is not capable of accommodating a first MAC CE plus a subheader, then the UE 201 may trigger a SR for the first MAC CE. Additionally, the UE 201 may trigger the SR based on receiving a fifth parameter, receiving the fifth parameter indicating that the SR is enabled, or a combination of the above-mentioned two items. For instance, whether an SR can be triggered for a dedicated TAR may depend on dedicated parameter timingAdvanceSR_HD. The base station 202 may signal the UE 201 a fifth parameter (timingAdvanceSR_HD) dedicated to enable SR triggering when the UL-SCH resources cannot accommodate the dedicated TAR MAC CE.

[0118] In some embodiments, the first TAR is carried by the first MAC CE, and a set of uplink resources is capable of accommodating a first MAC CE and a second MAC CE associated with the first MAC CE. For instance, the dedicated TAR MAC CE works together with common TAR MAC CE, e.g., the dedicated TAR MAC CE carries a TA value variation compared to the value in the common TAR MAC CE. In this case, a MAC PDU may comprise at most one first MAC CE and one second MAC CE associated with the first MAC CE. In addition, at least one triggered TAR may be cancelled if a MAC PDU is transmitted and the MAC PDU comprises one first MAC CE and one second MAC CE associated with the first MAC CE, and the at least one triggered TAR comprises at least one of the first TAR or the second TAR.

[0119] In an example, a dedicated TAR MAC CE is used to carry the TAR dedicated for HD-FDD RedCap UE, which is associated to a common TAR MAC CE. A MAC PDU comprises at most one common TAR MAC CE and at most one dedicated TAR MAC CE. For a dedicated TAR triggered and not cancelled, the UL-SCH resources need to accommodate both the dedicated TAR MAC CE and its associated common TAR MAC CE for transmission. All triggered TAR may be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted with a common TAR MAC CE and a dedicated TAR MAC CE included.

[0120] In addition, if the first TAR is carried by the first MAC CE, and a set of uplink resources is not capable of accommodating a first MAC CE and a second MAC CE associated with the first MAC CE, then the UE 201 may trigger a SR for the first MAC CE and the second MAC CE.

[0121] Additionally, the UE 201 may trigger the SR based on receiving a fifth parameter, receiving the fifth parameter indicating that the SR is enabled, receiving the sixth parameter indicating that the SR is enabled, or a combination of the above-mentioned two items. For instance, whether an SR can be triggered for the dedicated TAR may depend on timingAdvanceSR or dedicated timingAdvanceSR_HD. A sixth parameter (timingAdvanceSR) to enable SR triggering for common TAR MAC CE is reused to enable SR triggering when the UL-SCH resources cannot accommodate both the dedicated TAR MAC CE and its associated common TAR MAC CE. The base station 202 may signal the UE 201 a fifth parameter or a sixth parameter.

[0122] In addition, if the first TAR is carried by the first MAC CE, and a priority of the first MAC CE may be equal to a priority of a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, a priority of the first MAC CE may be lower than a priority of a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, a priority of the first MAC CE may be higher than a priority of a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items.

[0123] For example, if a dedicated TAR MAC CE is used to carry the dedicated TAR, the logic channel priority of the dedicated TAR MAC CE is equal to or higher or lower than that of the common TAR MAC CE.

[0124] In some embodiments, the first TAR may be carried by a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, and a MAC PDU may comprise at most two MAC CEs. For example, the dedicated TAR reuses the common TAR MAC CE for transmission, and the dedicated TAR may work together with the common TAR. In that case, a set of uplink resources may be capable of accommodating two MAC CEs plus a subheader. Alternatively or additionally, an SR may be triggered if a set of uplink resources is not capable of accommodating two MAC CEs plus a subheader and the sixth parameter indicating that the SR is enabled.

[0125] In an example, a MAC PDU can contain at most two TAR MAC CE, and the UL-SCH resources need to accommodate the two TAR MAC CE. All triggered TAR may  be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted and this MAC PDU includes a TAR MAC CE.The base station 202 may signal the UE 201 a sixth parameter (e.g., timingAdvanceSR) to enable SR triggering for common TAR MAC CE when the UL-SCH resources cannot accommodate the TAR MAC CE carrying dedicated TAR and common TAR MAC CE.

[0126] In some embodiments, the first TAR may be carried by a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, and a MAC PDU may comprise at most one MAC CE. In that case, a second set of uplink resources may accommodate a second MAC CE carrying the second TAR in the case that a first set of uplink resources is capable of accommodating a first MAC CE plus a subheader. In addition, at least one triggered first TAR may be cancelled in the case that a set of uplink resources is capable of accommodating a MAC CE plus a subheader, a MAC PDU may be transmitted and the MAC PDU comprises a first MAC CE. Additionally, an SR may be triggered in the case that a set of uplink resources is not capable of accommodating a first MAC CE plus a subheader.

[0127] In an example, a MAC PDU can contain at most one TAR MAC CE, the UL-SCH resources need to accommodate the TAR MAC CE. All triggered dedicated TAR may be cancelled when a MAC PDU is transmitted and this MAC PDU includes a TAR MAC CE carrying dedicated TAR, which is differentiated by the slot / symbol-level values or the UE types (e.g., other UE or HD-FDD UE) .

[0128] In some embodiments, the SR may be triggered receiving the sixth parameter indicating that the SR is enabled. For example, the base station 202 may signal the UE 201 a sixth parameter (e.g., timingAdvanceSR) to enable SR triggering for common TAR MAC CE when the UL-SCH resources cannot accommodate the TAR MAC CE carrying dedicated TAR. In addition, the base station 202 may further signal the UE 201 a fifth parameter (timingAdvanceSR_HD) dedicated to enable SR triggering when the UL-SCH resources cannot accommodate the TAR MAC CE carrying dedicated TAR.

[0129] In some embodiments, the first TAR is carried by a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, and the UE 201 may transmit the first TAR with the second MAC CE based on at least one of the capability of the UE or the seventh parameter. For example, a HD-FDD RedCap UE may report a dedicated TAR using the common TAR MAC CE by default depending on its UE type or capability or by network indication.

[0130] In some embodiments, the first TAR may be carried by a first MAC CE, and the first MAC CE comprises a first number of bits for reservation, a second number of bits for symbol-level values or slot-level values, a third number of bits for symbol values of the first TAR. In addition, the second number of bits for symbol-level values or slot-level values may comprise one or more octets. For instance, a dedicated TAR MAC CE is used to carry the dedicated TAR for HD-FDD RedCap UE, which is independent to the common TAR MAC CE. The dedicated TAR MAC CE may include at least the last 4 bits for 14 symbol values with multiple option of first X bit (s) (X<8) for reservation, followed with bit (s) for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values, as shown in FIG. 3. More octets can be added for more symbol-level or slot-level values.

[0131] In an example, the length of the dedicated MAC CE is 1 octet. The dedicated MAC CE includes multiple option of first X bit (s) (X<8) for reservation, 4-X bit (s) for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values, and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values. As shown in FIG. 3 (a1) , the X is equal to 2, and there is 2 bits for reservation, 2 bits for additional symbol-level values and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values. In FIG. 3 (b1) , there is 2 bits for reservation, 2 bits for additional slot-level values and 4bits the last 4 bits for basic symbol values.

[0132] In another example, the length of the dedicated MAC CE is 2 octets. The first octet of the dedicated MAC CE includes multiple option of first X bit (s) for reservation, and 8-X bit (s) for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values. The second octet of the dedicated MAC CE includes first 4 bits for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values, and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values. As shown in FIG. 3 (a2) , the X is equal to 2, and there is 2 bits for reservation, 6 bits for additional symbol-level values in the first octet, 4bits for additional symbol-level values in the second octet, and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values. In FIG. 3 (b2) , there is 2 bits for reservation, 6 bits for additional slot-level values in the first octet, 4bits for additional slot-level values in the second octet, and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values.

[0133] In yet another example, the length of the dedicated MAC CE is N octets length (N>2) . The first octet includes multiple option of first X bit (s) for reservation, and 8-X bit(s) for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values, and the second octet to the (N-1) th octet include additional symbol-level values or slot-level values. The Nth octet includes first 4 bits for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values, and the last 4  bits for basic symbol values. As shown in FIG. 3 (a3) , the X is equal to 2, and there is 2 bits for reservation, 6 bits for additional symbol-level values in the first octet, the second octet to the (N-1) th octet include additional symbol-level values, 4bits in the Nth octet for additional symbol-level values, and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values. In FIG. 3 (b3) , there is 2 bits for reservation, 6 bits for additional slot-level values in the first octet, the second octet to the (N-1) th octet include additional slot-level values, 4bits in the Nth octet for additional slot-level value, and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values.

[0134] In addition, for the dedicated TAR MAC CE works together with the common TAR MAC CE, e.g., carrying TA value variation compared to the value in common TAR MAC CE. At least the last 4 bits for 14 symbol values with multiple option of first X bit (s) for reservation, followed with bit (s) for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values. More octets can be added for more symbol-level values, as shown in FIGS. 3 (a1) -3 (a3) . Logic channel priority of the dedicated TAR MAC CE may be equal to or lower than common TAR MAC CE.

[0135] In some embodiments, the first TAR may be carried by a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, and the second MAC CE comprises a fourth number of bits for reservation, a fifth number of bits for symbol-level values or slot-level values, a sixth number of bits for symbol values of the first TAR. For instance, a dedicated TAR reuses the common TAR MAC CE for the transmission. For a HD-FDD RedCap UE, at least the last 4 bits for 14 symbol values, and other non-reserved bits are for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values, as shown in FIGS. 3 (a2) -3 (b2) .

[0136] In an example, the length of the dedicated MAC CE is 2 octets. The first octet of the dedicated MAC CE includes 2 bits for reservation, and 6 bits for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values. The second octet includes first 4 bits for additional symbol-level values or slot-level values, and the last 4 bits for basic symbol values, as shown in FIG. 3 (b2) .

[0137] FIG. 2B illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 200B in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 200B may involve the user equipment 201 and the base station 202. The UE 201 in FIG. 2B may be an example of UE 104 in FIG. 1A . The base station 202 in FIG. 2B may be an example of a network entity 102 in FIG. 1A. It would be appreciated that although the process 200B is applied  to in the communication environment 100A of FIG. 1A, this process may be likewise applied to other communication scenarios with similar issues.

[0138] In the process 200B, the base station 202 determines 235 a configuration of a first TAR dedicated for half-duplex UE in an NTN. The first TAR may refer to the dedicated TAR. In some embodiments, the configuration of the TAR 245 may comprise a first parameter for enabling the first TAR dedicated for half-duplex UEs, e.g., ta-Report_HD; a second parameter for triggering the first TAR, e.g., offsetThresholdTA_HD; a fifth parameter for enabling a SR for a first MAC CE dedicated for carrying the first TAR, e.g., timingAdvanceSR_HD; a seventh parameter indicating the UE to report the first TAR with a second MAC CE for carrying a second TAR, e.g., symbolLevelTA, wherein the second TAR is for half-duplex UEs and full-duplex UEs in the NTN, or any combination of two or more of the above-mentioned items. The second TAR may refer to the common TAR.

[0139] Continuing with reference to FIG. 2B, the base station 202 transmits 240 the configuration of the first TAR 245 to the UE 201. The UE 201 is a half-duplex UE. After receiving 250 the configuration of the first TAR 245 from the base station 202, the UE 201 may trigger 255 a first TAR dedicated for half-duplex UEs to the base station 202.

[0140] In some embodiments, the base station 202 may further receive the first TAR from the UE 201. Alternatively or additionally, in order to receive the first TAR, the base station 202 may receive the first TAR via a first MAC CE, and the first MAC CE may comprise a first number of bits for reservation, a second number of bits for symbol-level values or slot-level values, a third number of bits for symbol values of the first TAR. Additionally, in order to receive the first TAR, the base station 202 may receive the first TAR via a second MAC CE for carrying the second TAR, and the second MAC CE may comprise a fourth number of bits for reservation, a fifth number of bits for symbol-level values or slot-level values, a sixth number of bits for symbol values of the first TAR.

[0141] In addition, the second number of bits for symbol-level values or slot-level values may comprise one or more octets. Alternatively or additionally, the base station 202 may receive the first TAR with the second MAC CE based on at least one of the capability of the UE (e.g., HD-FDD RedCap UE) or the seventh parameter.

[0142] FIG. 4 illustrates an example procedure in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The process 400 may involve a UE 401 and a BS 402. The UE 401 in  FIG. 4 may be an example of UE 104 in FIG. 1A. The BS 402 in FIG. 4 may be an example of a network entity 102 in FIG. 1A.

[0143] As shown in FIG. 4, at 410, the BS 402 transmits a common / legacy TAR configuration (corresponds to the configuration of the TAR 220 in FIG. 2A) to the UE 401. The common / legacy TAR configuration may include ta-Report, offsetThresholdTA, timingAdvanceSR, and so on. At 415, the BS 402 may transmit a dedicated / enhanced TAR configuration (corresponds to the configuration of the first TAR 245 in FIG. 2B) to the UE 401. The dedicated / enhanced TAR configuration may include ta-Report_HD, offsetThresholdTA_HD, timingAdvanceSR_HD, and so on. The dedicated / enhanced TAR configuration may be transmitted with the common / legacy TAR configuration.

[0144] At 420, the UE 401 performs the common / legacy TAR triggering. At 425, the UE 401 performs the dedicated / enhanced TAR triggering. It is to be understood that the triggering of the common / legacy TAR and dedicated / enhanced TAR can be independent or related to each other.

[0145] At 430, the UE 401 performs the common / legacy TAR MAC CE handling. At 435, the UE 401 performs the dedicated / enhanced TAR MAC CE handling. It is to be understood that the handling of the common / legacy TAR MAC CE and dedicated / enhanced TAR MAC CE can be independent or related to each other.
