Abstract
Description
ROLL WING SYSTEMField of the Invention
[0001] The invention relates to a wing folding system for use in air- or ground-launched munitions such as rockets and missiles capable of flying, or in air vehicles such as drones.
[0002] In particular, the invention relates to a wing folding system for increasing the wing surface area of ammunition and aircraft to extend their range or increase their maneuverability.State of the art
[0003] When the wing folding mechanisms in ammunition such as rockets and missiles with folding wing mechanisms capable of flying in the state of the art are opened, the wings have an area only equal to their surface area. Extra weight and extra space are needed to increase the surface area of the wings. However, since wings with a metal structure are used, it is not possible to fold and store the wings inside the ammunition or drone. For this reason, there is a need for wing folding systems that extend the range or increase the maneuverability of ammunition or drone vehicles.
[0004] The document numbered US5615846 can be cited as an example of the state of the art in the literature research. The abovementioned document relates to the extendable wing for guided missiles and ammunition. Said invention relates to a deployable diamond-shaped wing for extending the range or increasing the maneuverability of guided missiles or ammunition.
[0005] Document No CN103837045 can be shown as another example to the state of the art. Said document relates to a wing spread system. Said invention relates to a wing spread system which greatly increases the range of a weapon and can be applied to a variety of airborne or barrel-mounted precision guided weapons using a diamond wing arrangement.
[0006] Document No WO2008010226 can be shown as another example to the state of the art. Said document relates to an air vehicle and deployable wing arrangement therefor. A deployable wing arrangement or kit is mentioned in said document.
[0007] Document No DE102015014520 can be shown as another example to the state of the art. Said document relates to the unmanned missile. Said document relates to a missile having at least one wing device mounted on the fuselage so as to be able to rotate.
[0008] The wings mentioned in the above-mentioned documents have an area only equal to their surface area and it is not possible to fold and store these wings.
[0009] As a result of the aforementioned issues and the limited supply of available solutions, it became necessary to carry out an improvement in the relevant technical field.Object of the Invention
[0010] The present invention relates to a wing folding system which eliminates the abovementioned disadvantages and brings new advantages to the relevant technical field.
[0011] The main object of the present invention is to reveal a wing folding system for increasing the wing surface area of ammunition and aircraft to extend their range or increase their maneuverability.
[0012] The object of the present invention is to provide a wing folding system which enables the wings of ammunition and air vehicles to be opened and closed by means of a roll of fabric made of composite material and to extend the range or increase the maneuverability during the flight of ammunition and air vehicles, and at the same time to be folded in the closed position.
[0013] Another object of the invention is to provide a wing folding system with wings that are robust and lightweight at the same time and can be used on small areas in ammunition and aircraft.
[0014] In order to fulfil all the above-mentioned purposes and all the purposes that may arise from the detailed description, the present invention is a wing folding system for use in air- or ground-launched munitions such as rockets and missiles capable of flying, or in air vehicles such as drones, comprising of the following;- fixing bracket attached to the ammunition or aircraft fuselage,- left wing, which opens and closes by engaging onto the fixing bracket and enables the ammunition or aircraft to fly,- right wing, which opens and closes by engaging onto the fixing bracket and enables the ammunition or aircraft to fly,- left fabric roll consisting of a roll of fabric made of composite material, which is connected to the inner surface of the left wing and opens and closes with the left wing and increases the wing surface area to increase the range or maneuverability of the ammunition or aircraft,- right fabric roll consisting of a roll of fabric made of composite material, which is connected to the inner surface of the right wing and opens and closes with the right wing and increases the wing surface area to increase the range or maneuverability of the ammunition or aircraft,
[0015] The structural and characteristic features of the present invention will be understood clearly by the following drawings and the detailed description made with reference to these drawings. Therefore the evaluation shall be made by taking these figures and the detailed description into consideration.Figures Clarifying the Invention

[0030] In this detailed description, the preferred alternatives of the inventive wing folding system is described only for clarifying the subject matter such that no limiting effect is created.
[0031] Figure 1a shows an open view of the wing folding system for the inventive delta wing (A1) and Figure 1b shows an open view of the wing folding system for the diamond wing (A2). Accordingly, the wing folding system mainly comprises the following; fixing bracket (10) attached to the ammunition or aircraft fuselage, left wing (20) and right wing (40), which open and close by means of the connection element (60) on the fixing bracket (10), left fabric roll (30), which is connected to the inner surface of the left wing (20) and opens and closes together with the left wing (20), right fabric roll (50), which is connected to the inner surface of the right wing (40) and opens and closes together with the right wing (40).
[0032] The fixing bracket (10), which forms the main carrier structure of the wing folding system subject to the invention and provides the connection of said wing folding system to the ammunition or aircraft body, is fixedly connected to the ammunition or aircraft body.
[0033] On the fixing bracket (10), the left wing (20) and the right wing (40) are connected, which can be opened and closed. Said left wing (20) and right wing (40) are movably connected to the fixing bracket (10) by means of a connection element (60).
[0034] In order to increase the range or maneuverability of the ammunition or aircraft by increasing the wing surface area of the left wing (20) and the right wing (40), which enable the ammunition or aircraft to fly while in the air, such as ammunition such as rockets and missiles with air or ground-launched flying capability or aircraft such as drones, a left fabric roll (30) is fixed to the inner surface of the left wing (20) and a right fabric roll (50) is fixed to the inner surface of the right wing (40) along its length from an edge surface. Said left fabric roll (30) and right fabric roll (50) consist of rolls of fabric made of composite material.
[0035] The left fabric roll (30) opens and closes together with the left wing (20) and the right fabric roll (50) opens and closes together with the right wing (40).
[0036] The wing folding system subject to the invention can be used on the delta wing (A1) or, in an alternative embodiment of the invention, on the diamond wing (A2). In this case, a left diamond connection wing (70) is mounted on the left wing (20) at an inward angle, and a right diamond connection wing (80) is mounted on the right wing (40) at an inward angle. Said left diamond connection wing (70) is movably connected to the left wing (20) and the right diamond connection wing (80) is movably connected to the right wing (40) by means of the connection element (60).
[0037] Figure 2a shows a closed view of the wing folding system for the inventive delta wing (A1) and Figure 2b shows a closed view of the wing folding system for the diamond wing (A2). When the ammunition is ejected or the aircraft is blown up, the left fabric roll (30) opens together with the left wing (20) and the right fabric roll (50) opens together with the right wing (40). Thus, the range or maneuverability of the ammunition or aircraft is increased by increasing the wing surface area of the left wing (20) and right wing (40).
[0038] In case the inventive wing folding system is used on the diamond wing (A2), the left diamond connection wing (70) and the right diamond connection wing (80) are also opened.
