Alternate aspects may be devised without departing from the scope of the disclosure. Additionally, well-known elements of the disclosure will not be described in detail or will be omitted so as not to obscure the relevant details of the disclosure.
[0038] As mentioned above, a plurality of operations have to be performed to play music, which is tedious and not user-friendly enough, especially for users who are not familiar with Bluetooth pairing and connection. To solve the problem, the present disclosure proposes a method that allows a user to easily trigger quick-play of multimedia content by preconfiguring a quick-start playback mode related to an audio device external to an electronic device. In particular, on the electronic device, the external audio device is preset as the trigger device for the quick-start playback mode, a trigger operation on the external audio device is configured for the quick-start playback mode, a multimedia application previously installed on the electronic device is preconfigured as the application that the quick-start playback mode is directed to, and multimedia content that the quick-start playback mode is directed to is selected in the multimedia application. Therefore, when performing the trigger operation on an external speaker, it is possible to quickly start the playing of the multimedia content on the multimedia application.
[0039] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the preconfiguring of the quick-start playback mode can be achieved by providing a quick-start playback configuration application that can run on the electronic device.
[0040] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the quick-start playback function herein can refer to the function where the user can perform playback operations with a simple trigger. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the quick-start playback mode can be a physical actuation on at least one button of the audio device, or a voice command received by the audio device. It is to be understood that the trigger herein is not limited to a simple physical touch such as a long press on a button of the audio device, a double press on the button of the audio device, a physical touch on the button of the audio device, and so on, but can also include any other types of a simple interaction such as a voice command. Also, the trigger herein can include a simple physical touch on multiple buttons of the audio device. For example, it can include pressing the volume up (+) button and the volume down (-) button at the same time, pressing the power button and the volume up (+) button at the same time, and so on. The playback function herein can refer to any operation related to the playing of the multimedia content, including but not limited to Play / Pause / Previous Song / Next Song, and so on.
[0041] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the quick-start playback configuration application can be a companion APP to preselect the content to be played and the way to play the preselected multimedia content that includes the specific settings of a quick-start playback function. The companion APP can refer to an APP dedicated to one or more corresponding audio devices connected to the device that the companion APP is installed on and can cooperate with the one or more audio devices.
[0042] According to embodiments of the present application, the quick-start playback configuration application can be an application that is not dedicated to one or more audio devices and can select, among at least one available device connected to the electronic device, a specific audio device to play the preselected multimedia content, in addition to preselecting the content to be played and the way to play the preselected multimedia content.
[0043] According to embodiments of the present application, the quick-start playback configuration application can be utilized to configure the sound effects of the audio device, including but not limited to volume, equalizer, and so on. Also, the quick-start playback configuration application can be utilized to set other effects of the audio device, including but not limited to light effects of one or more lights provided at the audio device.
[0044] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the quick-start playback configuration application can be utilized to customize the settings related to the quick-start playback function of the audio device.
[0045] The following illustrates example GUIs of the quick-start playback configuration application with references to FIGs. 2-5.
[0046] FIG. 2A illustrates a flow chart of a method 200A for playing multimedia content on an electronic device according to embodiments of the present disclosure. As illustrated in FIG. 2A, at step 210, the audio device can receive a quick-start trigger message from an audio device. The audio device can be external to and in communication with the electronic device. The quick-start trigger message can be used to trigger the playing of the preconfigured content in a multimedia application which can be installed in the electronic device in advance. For example, the quick-start trigger message can carry a predetermined payload to indicate the triggering of the playing, such that the playing of the preconfigured content in the multimedia application can be triggered.
[0047] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, receiving a quick-start trigger message can be performed by scanning a Bluetooth broadcast from the audio device. In particular, the Bluetooth broadcast can be transmitted by the audio device in response to an interaction with the audio device by the user. The transmitted Bluetooth broadcast can be a BLE broadcast to save energy. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the electronic device can keep periodically scanning the Bluetooth broadcast and determine whether the scanned Bluetooth broadcast comes from the audio device.
[0048] Upon receiving the Bluetooth broadcast, the electronic device can determine that the Bluetooth broadcast carries a predetermined payload. In particular, the predetermined payload can explicitly or implicitly indicate that the user triggers the quick-start playback function. For example, in case the interaction is customized to be a physical actuation on a button of the audio device, the audio device can transmit, in response to detecting the physical actuation on the button of the audio device, a Bluetooth broadcast with the predetermined payload to indicate that the user triggers the quick-start playback function. For example, in case the interaction is customized to be a voice command received by the audio device from the user, the audio device can transmit, in response to detecting the voice command from the user, a Bluetooth with the predetermined payload to indicate that the user triggers the quick-start playback function.
[0049] FIG. 2B illustrates a flow chart of a method 200B for the settings of the quick-start playback function according to embodiments of the present disclosure. The steps for settings of the quick-start playback function as illustrated in the method 200B can be performed before the step 210 of receiving a quick-start trigger message from an audio device. In particular, the method 200B can include step 230 of configuring an interaction on the audio device to generate the quick-start trigger message and step 240 of preconfiguring, on the electronic device, multimedia content triggered by the quick-start trigger message, which is detailed with reference to FIGs. 3-4. It is to be understood that the steps for setting the quick-start playback function as illustrated in FIG. 2B is not necessarily performed in the present disclosure. For example, the settings of the quick-start playback function can be performed by default.
[0050] FIG. 3 illustrates a GUI 300 for the settings of the quick-start playback function of the audio device according to the embodiments of the present disclosure. The quick-start function can include the one touch playback function as illustrated in FIG. 3. The one touch playback function means that the quick-start function can be trigger by one simple physical touch or one simple voice command. As illustrated in FIG. 3, the GUI 300 can include Trigger Customization section 310 configured for trigger customization, including but not limited to the interaction that the user can perform with the audio device, the respective light effect in response to the interaction, and so on. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the user can tap on Play / Pause section 312 included in the Trigger Customization section 310 to select the interaction that the user can perform to start or pause the playing of the preselected multimedia content. For example, the user can tap on the Play / Pause section 312 and the Trigger Customization panel 330 can thus pop up and include Long Press option 332 and No Trigger option 334. If the user selects the Long Press option 332, it means that the electronic device will stream the preselected multimedia content to the audio device and the audio device will thus play the preselected multimedia content if the audio device is currently playing no multimedia content or playing different multimedia content from the preselected multimedia content, once the user long-presses a specific physical button on the audio device as a trigger. Also, the audio device will pause playing the preselected multimedia content if the audio device is currently playing the preselected multimedia content, once the user long-presses the specific physical button on the multimedia device. If the user selects the No Trigger option 334, it means that the user selects not to utilize the quick-start playback function, the electronic device will not stream the preselected multimedia content to the audio device, and the audio device will neither play nor pause playing the preselected multimedia content if the user long-presses a specific physical button on the audio device. Also, the user can tap on Light Show section 314 to select the respective light effect in response to the interaction from the user. For example, if the user taps on the Light Show section 314 and selects to turn the light on or blink the light, the audio device will play the preselected multimedia content and turn the light on or blink the light on the audio device as well in response to the long-press of the specific physical button on the audio device.
[0051] In addition to the physical actuation on a button of the audio device as mentioned above, the voice command can also be utilized to perform the quick-start playback function. For example, the Trigger Customization panel 330 can further include a voice command option in addition to Long Press option 332 and No Trigger option 334 included in the Trigger Customization panel 330, although not illustrated in FIG. 3. After the user selects the voice command option included in the Trigger Customization panel 330, the audio device will play or pause playing the preselected multimedia content in response to a voice command from the user as a trigger. In this case, the audio device can play a tone to inform the user of the availability of the quick-start playback function, and the audio device and / or the electronic device (for example, the mobile phone) that the audio device is wirelessly connected to can detect the voice command from the user in response to the tone, so as to leverage other capabilities of the audio device and / or the electronic device like voice recognition. The voice command that can be configured to trigger the quick-start playback function can be relatively simple and short to avoid the complexity of speech recognition.
[0052] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, after customizing the interaction via the quick-start playback configuration application, the audio device can be notified of the selected interaction, so that the audio device is thereafter capable of transmitting Bluetooth broadcast in response to detecting interaction with the audio device by the user. For example, the user can select the Long Press option 332 in the Trigger Customization panel 330 of the quick-start playback configuration application installed on the mobile phone, and the mobile phone can notify the audio device connected to the mobile phone of the trigger customization. Thereafter, the audio device will transmit a Bluetooth broadcast in response to detecting a long press on a physical button of the audio device. Otherwise, if the long-press play / pause is not customized or the audio device is not notified of the customization, the audio device will not transmit Bluetooth broadcast if a long press on the physical button of the audio device is detected. The protocol that the audio device can utilize to transmit the Bluetooth broadcast includes Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) , which can advantageously save energy while realizing a relatively wide communication range for the Bluetooth broadcast of the audio device.
[0053] As illustrated in FIG. 3, the quick-start playback configuration application can further include the Installed APP section 320 configured to connect to the app t previously installed on the mobile device and capable of playing preselected multimedia content. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the user can select to connect to the installed Spotify capable of playing the preselected multimedia content. Further, the quick-start playback configuration application can be utilized to preselect the content to be played, for example, a song or a playlist of songs. As a non-limiting example, in response to an operation in the Installed APP section 320, the interface of the quick-start playback configuration application can be switched from the GUI 300 to the GUI 400 as shown in FIG. 4. FIG. 4 illustrates the GUI 400 for preselecting the multimedia content to be played by the quick-start playback function of the audio device according to embodiments of the present disclosure. In particular, FIG. 4 illustrates the song and playlist of songs that the user can preselect. For example, the user can preselect a playlist option 412 of “Jazz Vibes” from the Playlist section 410 so as to play the playlist “Jazz Vibes” in response to detecting the interaction with the audio device by the user. Also, if the playlist of songs that the user intends to play is not included in the Playlist section 410, the user can tap on a playlist option 414 of “Add From Spotify” to turn to the Spotify APP to preselect another playlist. For example, the user can preselect the song option 422 of “Country Love” from the Song section 420 so as to play the song “Country Love” in response to detecting the interaction with the audio device by the user. Also, if the song that the user intends to play is not included in the Song section 420, the user can tap on the song option 424 of “Add From Spotify” to turn to the Spotify APP to preselect another song. It is to be understood that the Spotify APP referred to is just an example, and any APP that was installed on the mobile phone and can provide multimedia content can be utilized.
[0054] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, after the setting of preconfiguring the multimedia content triggered by the quick-start trigger message as illustrated in FIG. 4, the application configured for settings of the quick-start playback function can store the song or playlist of songs, so that upon receiving the quick-start trigger message, the electronic device can read the preconfigured multimedia content and request the multimedia application to play the preconfigured multimedia content.
[0055] Furthermore, to achieve the quick-start playback function, the quick-start playback configuration application needs to integrate an audio service provider Software Development Kit (SDK) through which the quick-start playback configuration application can interact with the audio service provider APP (for example, Spotify) , so that the quick-start playback configuration application can call Application Program Interface (API) to request the audio service provider APP to control the multimedia content playback, including but not limited to Play / Pause / Previous Song / Next Song.
[0056] FIG. 5 illustrates a GUI 500 for the settings of the quick-start playback function of the audio device according to embodiments of the present disclosure. The GUI 500 as illustrated in FIG. 5 differs from the GUI 300 as illustrated in FIG. 3 mainly in that the GUI 500 further includes the Audio Device section 530 to select, among at least one available audio device, the audio device to generate the quick-start trigger message. For example, the user can select the option 532 of “JBL Speaker” to indicate to the selected JBL speaker to perform the quick-start playback function.
[0057] Referring back to FIG. 2A, at step 220, the electronic device can play preconfigured multimedia content in response to the quick-start message. The preconfigured multimedia content can be at least one multi-media content preselected in the specific multimedia application. In particular, the preconfigured multimedia content can be played by calling the API, in response to determining that the scanned Bluetooth broadcast carries the predetermined payload, if the audio device is currently playing no content or playing multimedia content different from the preselected multimedia content.
[0058] It is to be understood that the steps as illustrated in FIG. 2A and FIG. 2B are just exemplary. The method 200A and the method 200B can include more or fewer steps than that as illustrated in FIG. 2.
[0059] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the method 200B can further include the step of notifying the audio device of the interaction, which can be performed before the step 210, so that the audio device can detect the interaction with the audio device by the user and transmit a Bluetooth broadcast in response to detecting the interaction. On the other hand, the step of notifying the audio device of the interaction is not necessarily included in the method 200B, since the interaction can be preset as, for example, long-press at default. Thus, once the device receives a Bluetooth broadcast at the step 210 and determines that the Bluetooth broadcast carries a predetermined payload, the device can determine that the user triggers the quick-start playback function and then call the API to play the preselected multimedia content.
[0060] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the step 240 of preconfiguring, on the electronic device, multimedia content triggered by the quick-start trigger message can include the step of logging in to the specific multimedia application and navigating multimedia content in the specific multimedia application, and selecting the multimedia content to be played. The step can also be utilized to select the multimedia content to be streamed to the audio device and can be performed at any time during the process of the method 200A to set or change the preselected multimedia content triggered by the quick-start trigger message.
[0061] FIG. 6 illustrates a schematic diagram for a device 600 for playing preselected multimedia content according to embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 5, the device 600 can include a message receiving module 602 and a multimedia content playing module 6604. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the device 600 can further include a customization module506.
[0062] In particular, the message receiving module 602 can be configured to receive a quick-start trigger message from an audio device. The quick-start trigger message can be used to trigger playing of the preconfigured content in a multimedia application. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the quick-start trigger message can be received from the audio device by scanning a Bluetooth broadcast from an audio device.
[0063] The multimedia content playing module 604 can be configured to play preconfigured multimedia content in response to the quick-start trigger message. The preconfigured multimedia content can be at least one multi-media content preselected in the multimedia application. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the multimedia content playing module 604 can be further configured to, in response to the quick-start trigger message, call an Application Program Interface (API) capable of cooperating with the multimedia application to play the preconfigured multimedia content.
[0064] The customization module 606 can be configured to configure an interaction on the audio device to generate the quick-start trigger message and preconfigure, on the electronic device, multimedia content triggered by the quick-start trigger message. The interaction can include a physical actuation on at least one button of the audio device or a voice command received by the audio device. Further, the customization module 606 can be configured to select, among at least one available audio device, the audio device to generate the quick-start trigger message and select, among at least one available multimedia application, a multimedia application to provide the preconfigured multimedia content. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the customization module 606 can be configured to log in to the multimedia application and navigate multimedia content in the multimedia application; and select the multimedia content to be played.
