A complete & balanced diet for canine & feline pets derived from variety of wholefoods, made into composite dry meat flakes, and a method for making the same

Abstract

A wholesome and balanced Canine food derived from composite food materials is provided. This process aims to provide minimally processed and preserved are dry composite meat flakes pet food. It is made from natural fresh ingredients that are fit for human consumption. The recipes are designed to meet the Daily recommended allowances of essential nutrients of dogs they blended and then preserved over 20-23 hours in controlled environment chambers. This approach avoids the harms of ultra processed dog foods and delivers natural nutrients in the prescribed quantities to the pets daily. Its convenient to store and handle exactly like commercial dry extruded foods like dry kibble. It can be served dry as a food or can be converted into a fresh natural meal making this product that can cater to both markets of dry and wet dog foods. It does not require refrigerated storage once opened like other natural foods.

Further, the invention relates to a Companion pets i.e. Dog and Cat food that is a wholesome, complete and balanced. Furthermore this invention relates to that of a Pet food best suited for the natural biological characteristics of the canines / Feline, species, it is derived from whole food ingredients. Still further, this invention provides a method for making a wholesome ,and complete & balanced Canine / Feline pet food which is achieved by using whole food materials and is in concordance with International standards set by professional Pet food standard setting organizations, viz FEDIAF (European Pet Food Industry Federation)

[0004] • Growing pets has become quite popular nowadays all over the World. Especially in a country like India, pets are becoming popular, and especially Canines, are the most popular among pets. Given the various factors like being faithful and friendly and loyal and other desirable qualities, dogs have become the most sought-after pets among Indians. The various options and breeds of dogs, from doing roles of watch and ward services to being cuddle babies, dogs are reared as pets for plethora of reasons. It has been proved that even rearing of dogs as pets, would provide succor for senior citizens, to do away with loneliness related sorrow and other issues and making them feel happy.

[0005] • On the other hand, while growing pets in homes, throw a great challenge when it comes to feeding them. In a country like India, it is quite predominant, to feed the pet dogs and cats, with food stuffs that are consumed by humans in their homes. This poses great problems as the pets, do not get a wholesome and balanced diet required for their nature. This results in many health issues faced by pets .

[0006] • Thus there arises a very important need for feeding of pets with wholesome, Complete &balanced food which is not only nutritious, but suiting to the biological system of the pets .

[0007] • But still it can be observed that complete and balanced nutritional food for dogs and cats introduced in the world since 1960’s wherein delivery of nutrients derived from animal by products, animal derivative products, grains, starchy vegetables, fats, chemical supplements and additives for preservation and taste enhancers like palatants. The approach is similar to feed for livestock in design, delivery and manufacture. Recent researches have shown that this approach of nutrient delivery causes health issues to pets because of the processing and being inappropriate for the biology of the pet. To mitigate this issue and to deliver nutrition through the best suited ingredients for pets , in this invention, an attempt is made to combine foods together in appropriate ratios and proportions to deliver nutrient requirements as recommended by international agencies like FEDIAF and it is made convenient to store, serve and deliver balanced nutrition through composite meat flakes.

[0009] • Its prime object of the invention is to provide a pet food that is wholesome, complete and balanced one. for the natural biological characteristics of the canines and felines.

[0010] • It is still further an object of the invention to provide a Pet food formulated keeping in mind the biological system of pets derived from whole food ingredients and made into dry composite meat flakes.

[0011] • It is yet another object of the invention to provide a method for. making a Pet food formulated keeping in mind the biological system of pets derived from whole food materials and made into dry composite meat flakes having better bio availability than conventional ultra processed high carbohydrate diets.

[0012] • Still further it is an object of the invention to provide a pet food and method for making it which is in concordance with the norms of well-established Pet food standards setting organizations and satisfies the norms set by them

[0013] • Detailed Description of the Invention

[0014] • Pet foods are conventionally in either dry or wet form and found under two categories viz Ultra Processed form or Natural food form.

[0015] • Ultra processed form in the dry form involving the use of an extruder where primarily animal meat byproducts derived meat meals, grains , some byproduct meats and / or some starchy vegetables are finely ground, mixed and emulsified under pressure and heat and further bound together under extreme heat and pressure (Usually about 100 to 220 degrees Celsius and under 2.5 to 4 times atmospheric pressure). This is then sprayed with fats, vitamins, minerals, taste enhancers and then dried at high temperatures about 160-200 degrees to process the dry extruded dog food commonly referred to as dry kibble which is a composite dry substance which supplies complete and balanced nutrition to the pet. The wet form of ultra processed foods uses real meats along with binders and carbohydrates and extruded into packs which are then subjected to steam treatments temperature of 125 degrees and high pressure of 2..5 times atmosphere. • The Natural food space used raw food and cooked foods ( from gently cooked to under high heat and pressure as well) or minimally processed foods ( foods are preserved ) It must be observed that all the foods under this category are not composite substances. They can be wet or dry. If dry, they may be in powder or cubes. They can be soaked but due to closed pores, they cannot be rehydrated.. They are usually made from real meats and organ meats along with vegetables and fruits. Most of them need cold storage once opened.

The composite meat flakes can be rehydrated to become fresh slices of meat because of the opened pores present and hence the aromas getting enhanced. This is achieved due to the unique process of the invention whereas in other attempts this attribute is seldom present. The recipes are designed to meet the daily recommended allowances of essential nutrients of dogs they blended and then preserved over 20-23 hours in controlled environment chambers.

[0018] Detailed Description of the ingredients and method involved

[0019] Ingredients • Frozen real meats of chicken with and without bone , organ meats, fresh eggs, fish including sardines, buffalo meats, buffalo organs, vegetables, fruits, leafy vegetables, berries, botanicals like herbs and extracts pre and probiotics are all ingredients.

[0021] The frozen products are taken out of our cold rooms and first dipped in a solution of salt and a combination of bacteriophages. Then these frozen products are broken down into smaller pieces from the initial large blocks.

[0022] The fresh vegetables are also broken into smaller pieces and eggs are broken and separated from the shell.

[0023] These Frozen smaller pieces of meat and meats with bone are then disintegrated into a slurry The vegetables and fruits are also disintegrated and the disintegrated meats, vegetables and fruits and deshelled eggs are taken into required proportions and introduced into blenders. Into this oils, herbs, pre and probiotics, organic vitamins and minerals if any and a consortia of bacteriophages and natural agents for curing and bacterial control like vinegar and citric acid

[0024] These are then slow blended into a homogeneous slurry and the slurry is then poured into a laying machine where these are then laid as sheets are laid between 8 - 10 mm thick onto trays and further these trays are assembled into trollies and these trollies are designed to create the required resistance to the airflow inside the controlled environment chambers The chambers have warm air circulating inside. The temperature, humidity, time and airflow is controlled via ICB’s and the slurry is dehydrated of moisture for about 16 hours After 16 hours they are brought out of the chambers and then made into smaller strips and made into flakes and they are then put back into trollies and introduced back into the controlled environment chambers.

[0025] The product thus achieved, is again dehydrated for about 5-7 hours and the temperatures of the air inside the chambers will range from 45 degrees to 70 degrees through this 21-23 hours.

[0026] By this time the product achieves the required levels of dehydration and the product is then collected into bins and taken into the packaging section. The products are then treated under UV and exposed for sufficient time to destroy bacteria and fungi and they are then filled into pouches where the air is vacuumed to 99.99% and then a combination of Nitrogen and CO 2 are introduced into the pack. These are then sealed and then ready for the different pack size cartons.
