Abstract
Description
[0001] DESCRIPTION
[0002] SELF-ADHESIVE BUNDLING BAND AND MANUFACTURING PROCEDURE
[0003] OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0004] The subject of the present invention is a self-adhesive bundling band made of paper with high mechanical strength and high moisture resistance, free of liners. This band is a film / paper coating or backing that can be applied manually or automatically without prior cutting and can be converted back into pulp during the paper recycling process using standard recycling methods. The term "liner" is known and used in the sector, referring, as indicated, to a film or paper coating or backing.
[0005] The present invention is characterized by the materials used, their relative arrangement between them, as well as the manufacturing process.
[0006] The method of manufacturing the self-adhesive strip object of the invention is also the object of the present invention.
[0007] Therefore, the present invention is limited to the scope of adhesive tapes on the one hand and the means used as product grouping bands, such as, for example, fruit and vegetable products, cleaning products and beverages, among others.
[0008] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0009] The following documents related to self-adhesive bundling bands are known in the state of the art:
[0010] JP2023050801 A describes a roll of self-adhesive adhesive tape obtained by rolling an adhesive tape member having a tape-shaped substrate and an adhesive layer provided on one side of the tape-shaped substrate directly or by another roll layer comprising a filler in the adhesive layer.
[0011] In the adhesive tape disclosed in this invention it is recognized that the substrate can be made of paper, it is not mentioned that on the opposite side of the face where the adhesive is applied is the paper already perforated and with the printing and non-stick lacquer applied.
[0012] REPLACEMENT SHEET (RULE 26) Document JP2007117534 A discloses a roll of adhesive tape comprising a substrate or base material to which an adhesive layer is applied, the base material being paper. It does not mention anything about the printing process or the applied lacquer layer.
[0013] Document EP20710001 A1 discloses a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape.
[0014] An adhesive tape having pre-cut zones for easy separation is already disclosed in US2016257860A1.
[0015] In the state-of-the-art manufacturing process for liner-lined paper bundling webs, the adhesive was first applied using a hot-melt process, gravure printing with solvent-based or water-based adhesives, or any other adhesive technique, with the liner being applied in the same process to one side of the paper. In a second step, the master rolls were printed, then subjected to an overprint varnish application process on the printed side. Pre-cutting was also carried out to facilitate subsequent use. Finally, the process was completed by cutting the webs to the desired width and winding them onto final rolls, where the roll could be formed and the material provided with liner continuity.
[0016] One of the difficulties with state-of-the-art bundling belts is the fact that paper does not have sufficient mechanical properties or resistance to moisture, so its scope of application is very limited.
[0017] On the other hand, state-of-the-art liner-based grouping belts generate additional waste that isn't part of the packaging. Depending on their composition, these types of paper grouping belts with liner can sometimes be converted back into pulp in the standard paper and cardboard recycling process, but they cannot be manufactured without a liner.
[0018] Additionally, the composition of state-of-the-art linerless bundling belts, as they are glued or contain additives to improve the cohesion of the paper fibers, makes them unrecyclable in the standard paper and cardboard recycling process, i.e., they cannot be converted back into pulp in the standard paper and cardboard recycling process.
[0019] It also happens that state-of-the-art bundling bands are not easily separated manually due to the presence of the liner, as well as the high cohesion of the paper fibers, achieved through gluing and additives.
[0020] Another difficulty added to the grouping bands of the state of the art is a formulation that is not sufficiently balanced to allow the adhesion and subsequent release of the bands in the reel, so that a sufficient adhesion force is achieved to keep the objects or products grouped, but low enough to
[0021] REPLACEMENT SHEET (RULE 26) allows the strips to be unwound from the reel without causing the printed ink to peel off. This is why the liner is required.
[0022] Therefore, the object of the present invention is to overcome the drawbacks of the state of the art, that is, the lack of mechanical resistance, as well as resistance to moisture, the fact that the bands cannot be recycled, the difficulties in separation and a formulation that is sufficiently balanced such that it allows the unwinding of the bands on the reel without loss of the applied ink and on the other hand allows a set of objects to be kept grouped together, developing a self-adhesive grouping band such as the one described below and which is included in its essence in the first claim.
[0023] EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION
[0024] The object of the present invention is set forth in its essence in the independent claim and the different embodiments are set forth in the dependent claims.
[0025] For the development of the linerless paper bundling web, the manufacturing process described above would not be possible, and a new process had to be designed to operate without a liner. This new process can be carried out completely without a liner. Crucially, the paper is printed first, the release coating is applied in-line, and perforation is also possible, also in-line in the same step and before the adhesive is applied. The adhesive is applied in a second step, where the paper may or may not already be perforated with the printing and release coating. This is important to ensure that when the adhesive is applied and the adhesive is wound onto the reel for the first time, the adhesive is in contact with the release coating and there is no blockage in the reel. It's important to note that in this case, the adhesive is applied to paper that may be perforated, resulting in a loss of strength and the added difficulty of working with a weakened material. The final step is the cutting process, where the strips are cut to the required width, as in the original process.
[0026] The object of the present invention is a self-adhesive grouping band comprising a 100% paper material, which is a paper with additives that provide resistance to moisture, also known as “wet strength” paper since it uses additives that give it high mechanical resistance and resistance to moisture without using / adding waterproof additives to the paper such as paper gluing agents.
[0027] It is a self-adhesive band without a liner that is repulpable, that is, it can be converted back into pulp, unlike the adhesive tape without a liner that is not repulpable since it is based on a glued Parchment / Fiber paper, while the specific design of the application of the
[0028] REPLACEMENT SHEET (RULE 26) The adhesive in the linerless self-adhesive web invention with unsized paper is repulpable. The adhesive web allows water to enter the paper core during the paper recycling process.
[0029] The self-adhesive bands can be separated from each other manually thanks to the pre-perforation design, which also keeps the bands together on the reel during the converting process.
[0030] Thanks to a specific and balanced formulation of adhesive and release lacquer, it is possible to obtain an adhesion force to the product to be grouped and to the back of the band itself that is high enough to group the product, but low enough to easily unwind the band from the reel without removing ink. In this way, the peel force of the side of the band with the adhesive against the printed side of the band is preferably < 1 N / 25 mm and more preferably < 0.5 N / 25 mm and nevertheless, the adhesion of the side with the adhesive against the printed side of the band allows the 2 parts of the band to remain joined without separating, in a vertical position, while a 500 g weight hangs from one of them, preferably for at least 2 minutes and more preferably for at least 5 minutes.
[0031] By modifying the current self-adhesive tape production process by adjusting elements on the production line and changing the flow and order of the process, the line is more versatile, while still allowing for the standard self-adhesive tape production process.
[0032] Overprint varnishes (OPVs) are coatings applied to an already printed sheet or web. The main reasons for applying an OPV are to improve gloss, smear resistance, edge-melting resistance, abrasion or scraping resistance, and resistance to discoloration due to absorption of impurities in the environment.
[0033] Unless otherwise indicated, all technical and scientific elements used herein have the meaning commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this invention pertains. Methods and materials similar or equivalent to those described herein can be used in the practice of the present invention.
[0034] Throughout the description and claims, the word "comprises" and its variants are not intended to exclude other technical features, additives, components, or steps. For those skilled in the art, other objects, advantages, and features of the invention will be apparent in part from the description and in part from the practice of the invention.
[0035] REPLACEMENT SHEET (RULE 26) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES
[0036] To complement the description being made and in order to help better understand the characteristics of the invention, in accordance with a preferred example of practical implementation thereof, a set of drawings is attached as an integral part of said description, in which the following has been represented for illustrative and non-limiting purposes.
[0037] FIG. 1: shows a schematic representation of the stages of the state-of-the-art manufacturing process.
[0038] FIG 2. Shows a schematic representation of the stages of the manufacturing process of the self-adhesive grouping band object of the invention.
[0039] PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
[0040] Figure 1 shows the manufacturing process of the self-adhesive grouping bands of the state of the art, where as can be seen, it starts from a sheet of paper (1) on which an adhesive (2) is applied on one of its sides together with a liner (3). The adhesive can be applied by a hot-melt process, gravure printing with solvent-based or water-based adhesives or any other adhesive technique (10), with the adhesive interposed between the paper (1) and the liner (3).
[0041] Next, through a printing stage (11), inks (4) are applied to the free side of the paper (1), and then a non-stick overprint varnish (5) can be applied to this printed side using the same or a different printing technique, which protects the printing and maintains its quality. At the same time, the assembly is pre-cut so that dispensing is easier later on, and finally, the cutting (13) into bands with a desired width is carried out, as well as the winding of the bands onto final reels where the bands are kept in the form of a reel thanks to the liner.
[0042] Therefore, the self-adhesive grouping band of the state of the art comprises the following elements in the arrangement indicated below: a sheet of paper (1) on which an adhesive layer (2) is applied on one of its faces together with a liner (3) arranged on the adhesive layer (2), on the other side of the sheet of paper (1) inks (4) are applied and on these an overprinted varnish (5) may be applied, which protects the printing.
[0043] REPLACEMENT SHEET (RULE 26) Now for the development of a self-adhesive grouping band made of paper without liner, it is not possible to do it in the manner indicated above in figure 1, making it necessary to develop a new manufacturing process.
[0044] This new manufacturing process shown in Figure 2 is observed to comprise the following stages:
[0045] Printing (11) of a 100% paper material with additives (1') on one of its sides with inks (4)
[0046] Over-printing with the same or a different ink printing technique (12), in a continuous or additional stage, applying an over-printed varnish (5') on the face on which the printing with inks (4) has taken place, at the same time as the over-printing with varnishes is carried out, perforation can be carried out in order to facilitate subsequent dispensing.
[0047] - Application of adhesive (10) forming an adhesive layer (2) on the free face of the paper with additives (T), where this adhesive layer (2) lacks any liner, and is applied over the previous assembly, which may be perforated. The application of the adhesive can be carried out by means of hot-melt, gravure printing with solvent-based or water-based adhesive or any other adhesive technique. cutting (13) into bands with a desired width, as well as the winding of the bands into final reels where they are kept in reels thanks to the fact that the perforation pattern leaves joining bridges between the bands and does not allow them to separate or break under the tension applied in the process.
[0048] Therefore, the self-adhesive grouping band object of the invention comprises the following elements in the arrangement indicated below: a sheet of paper with additives (T) on which inks (4) are applied on one of its faces and on these an overprinted varnish (5'), while on the face opposite to the previous one there is an adhesive layer (2), where the adhesive layer (2) is applied on the assembly formed by the sheet of paper with additives (T), the inks (4) and the pre-cut overprinted varnish (5').
[0049] The non-stick printed varnish (5') can be of the polyurethane, nitrocellulose, silicone styrene, phenoxy ethyl acrylate, trimethylolpropane triacrylate, polyester or epoxy acrylate type, the type of non-stick varnish used being non-limiting.
[0050] The adhesive layer (2) can be of the acrylic, polyurethane, styrene-butadiene, styrene-isoprene, butyl, nitrile, silicone resin type, without limiting only to this type of adhesives.
[0051] REPLACEMENT SHEET (RULE 26) Self-adhesive, high mechanical strength and moisture resistant, recyclable, bundling bands without any liner on the adhesive layer are obtained, where the bonding force and the possibility of unwinding from the final reel are balanced, such that the peeling force of the side of the band with the adhesive against the printed side of the band is preferably < 1 N / 25mm and more preferably < 0.5 N / 25mm and nevertheless, the adhesion of the side with the adhesive against the printed side of the band allows the 2 parts of the band to remain joined without separating, in a vertical position, while a weight of 500g hangs from one of them, preferably for at least 2 minutes and more preferably for at least 5 minutes.Having sufficiently described the nature of the present invention, as well as the manner of putting it into practice, it is noted that, within its essence, it may be put into practice in other embodiments that differ in detail from the one indicated as an example, and to which the protection sought will also be achieved, provided that it does not alter, change or modify its fundamental principle.
