Description

HARNESS GUIDING DEVICE FOR AN INDUSTRIAL ROBOTFIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to an industrial robot, and more specifically, to a harness guiding device for the industrial robot.BACKGROUND

[0002] Industrial robots are widely used in industry fields. An industrial robot typically comprises a manipulator formed by a plurality of joints each of which includes one or more actuators and a plurality of structural arms connecting the adjacent joints. An end effector may be fixed to an end flange of the manipulator and are designed to perform various tasks. The actuators can be controlled to control a posture of the manipulator. Harnesses, such as power cables, communication cables, gas conduits for pneumatic actuators, and the like, are provided on the manipulator. With these harnesses, it is possible for the actuators, sensors, and other functional components located at different positions of the manipulator (such as different joints and / or the end flange) to be powered and / or to communicate with other devices constituting the robot.

[0003] In many applications, such as machinery industry, agricultural machinery, transporting industry, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, and the like, the harnesses are exposed to the surroundings. These harnesses typically comprise plastic casings. When the industrial robot operates over time, particles may be produced due to continuous friction among the harnesses, which is detrimental to the environment and fails to meet “clean room” requirements.SUMMARY

[0004] Example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a harness guiding device for an industrial robot and an industrial robot comprises the same which mitigates or obviates one or more above mentioned problems.

[0005] In a first aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a harness guiding device for an industrial robot. The harness guiding device comprises an axial through hole provided in a higher speed shaft of a gearbox of the industrial robot; and a hollow tube  extending axially and arranged within the axial through hole, an outer diameter of the tube being smaller than an inner diameter of the axial through hole to define a clearance between the axial through hole and hollow tube; wherein the hollow tube is fixed to a lower speed shaft of the gearbox and defines a path for guiding the harness through the gearbox. According to the present disclosure, the harness can be guided through the gearbox of an industrial robot smoothly.

[0006] In some embodiments, the tube may be a split type tube. With this arrangement, it is possible to guide harness through the gearbox without modifying the structure of the inner gearbox.

[0009] In some embodiments, the device may further comprise a limiting means provided at a free axial end of the tube and configured to restrict relative rotation of sub tubular bodies of the tube.

[0010] In some embodiments, the limiting means may comprise: a cover body, the cover body comprising a guide hole, the guide hole sized to allow passage of the free axial ends of the sub tubular bodies of the tube and to restrict relative movement of the sub tubular bodies of the tube.

[0011] In some embodiments, the cover body may comprise an axial extension axially extending from the guide hole, the axial extension configured to receive the free axial ends of the sub bodies of the tube and sized to restrict relative movement of the sub bodies of the tube.

[0012] In some embodiments, the tube may comprise a mounting flange provided at a fixed axial end opposite to the free axial end of the tube, the tube being fixed to the lower speed shaft of the gearbox via the mounting flange.

[0013] In a second aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided an industrial robot. The industrial robot comprises a manipulator, the manipulator comprising: at least a first  arm body and a second arm body; at least one gearboxes comprising a casing fixed to the first arm body; a higher speed shaft; and a lower speed shaft fixed to the second arm body; and a harness guiding device according to any of firs aspect.

[0014] In some embodiments, the tube of the harness guiding device may comprise a free axial end and a fixed axial end opposite to the free axial end, the tube is fixed to the lower speed shaft of the gearbox at the fixed axial end; and the free axial end is prevented from rotation via a limiting means, the limiting means being fixed to the lower speed shaft or the second arm body.

[0015] In some embodiments, the manipulator may further comprise an electric motor fixed to the first arm body and configured to drive the higher speed shaft of the gearbox.

[0016] In some embodiments, the electric motor may be connected to the higher speed shaft via a pulley-transmission.

[0017] It would be appreciated that this summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of embodiments of the present disclosure, nor is it intended to be used to limit the scope of the present disclosure. Other features of the present disclosure will become evident through the following description.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0025] Principles of the present disclosure will now be described with reference to several example embodiments shown in the drawings. Though example embodiments of the present disclosure are illustrated in the drawings, it is to be understood that the embodiments are described only to facilitate those skilled in the art in better understanding and thereby achieving the present disclosure, rather than to limit the scope of the disclosure in any manner.

[0026] The term “comprises” or “includes” and its variants are to be read as open terms that mean “includes, but is not limited to. ” The term “or” is to be read as “and / or” unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. The term “based on” is to be read as “based at least in part on. ” The term “being operable to” is to mean a function, an action, a motion or a state that can be achieved by an operation induced by a user or an external mechanism. The term “one embodiment” and “an embodiment” are to be read as “at least one embodiment. ” The term “another embodiment” is to be read as “at least one other embodiment. ” The terms “first, ” “second, ” and the like may refer to different or same objects. Other definitions, explicit and implicit, may be included below. A definition of a term is consistent throughout the description unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.

[0027] Fig. 1 is an overall view of an industrial robot 100 according to one example embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 1, the industrial robot 100 comprises a base 3, a plurality of joints (not shown) and a plurality of arm bodies 4, 5. The joints and the arm bodies 4, 5 constitute a manipulator 2 of the robot. In the shown  example, the industrial robot 100 is a SACRA robot. It is to be understood that the industrial robot 100 may be any other type robot.

[0028] Various harnesses are provided at different positions of the manipulator. One typical harness is a power cable. Each joint may include one or more actuators. The actuator, for example, may include a motor, a gearbox, and the like. These actuators are hard wired powered. Thus, cables for power are generally provided so as to supply power to the actuators. Another typical harness is a communication cable. Sensors are typically mounted on the manipulator. For example, position sensor may be arranged within the actuator to sense positions of the rotation shaft of the actuator. Some force sensors may be arranged at an end flange of the manipulator to sense a force applied by the tool. In some applications, a camera may be arranged at the connect arm and / or the end flange to capture images of a work object and / or its surroundings. These sensor data are transmitted to a controller provided in the base. Thus, communication cables may be needed along the robotic arm. In some applications, a tool mounted at the end flange may include a pneumatic actuator. Gas pipes may be provided along the robotic arm so as to supply pressured gas to the pneumatic actuator or discharge the gas from the pneumatic actuator. Thus, gas pipes may be needed to be provided along the robotic arm. It is to be understood that the above shown examples are merely illustration and the harnesses may include other functional forms.

[0029] The manipulator is designed to move in the work space. These harnesses may be of different length and may be arranged at different positions of the manipulator. If these harnesses are not properly fixed, there is a risk that the harnesses may twist and get tangled, which may cause damage to the robot. Another problem with respect to these harnesses is related to environment pollution. These harnesses typically include a plastic casing. When the manipulator moves around in the work space, the harnesses may generate particles due to friction among the casings of the harnesses during operation of the manipulator. These particles may be detrimental to the environment, which does not meet “clean room” requirements. Thus, there is a need to enclose the harnesses within the arm bodies and to prevent the harnesses from exposing to the surroundings.

[0030] Space within the arm bodies is typically precious which imposes pressure on design of wiring arrangements of the harnesses. In many applications, the harnesses need to pass through a gearbox. The gearbox typically comprises many movable components,  how to guide the harnesses through gearbox is technically challenging. The present disclosure provides a solution that allows the harness to pass through the gearbox without compromising the performances of the gearbox.

[0031] Fig. 2 is a sectional view of an industrial robot according to one example embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 2, two adjacent arm bodies 4 and 5 and an electric actuator constitute a joint of the industrial robot. The actuator comprises a fixed side fixed to the arm body 4 and a movable side fixed to the arm body 5. During operation of the actuator, the arm body 5 is ratable with respect to the arm body 4.

[0032] The actuator may be of various forms. In the shown example, the actuator 4 may comprise an electric motor 28, a pulley transmission and a gearbox 20. The pulley transmission comprises a first pulley 27 connected to an output shaft of the electric motor 28, a second pulley 23 connected to a higher speed shaft of the gearbox 20, and a belt 25 arranged on the first and second pulleys 23, 27. Also referring to Figs. 3 and 3, the gearbox 20 may include a casing, a higher speed shaft 22 connected to the output of the electric motor 28, for example to the second pulley 23, and a lower speed shaft 24 engaged with the higher speed shaft. The lower speed shaft is also connected to the load (e.g., the arm body 5) . Via the gearbox, the higher speed of the output shaft of the electric motor is reduced to the lower speed of the load. In the shown example, a pulley transmission is used to transmit power from the electric motor 28 to the load. It is to be understood that the power transmission may be implemented in other proper ways. Moreover, it is to be understood that the shown gearbox is merely illustrative and the gearbox may be of any other proper forms as known in the art.

[0033] In some embodiments, as shown in Fig. 2, two harness guiding devices 10 are provided and are configured to guide the harnesses 30 from the base 3 to a distal end of the manipulator. The harnesses 30 starts from the base 3, extends through a first gearbox provided in the first joint, through the hollow space within the arm body 4, further through the second gearbox provided in the second joint, and arrives at a user interface provided at an end flange of the manipulator or other parts adjacent to the end flange. The harness 30 may include one or more of cables, wires, pipes, and the like.

[0034] Figs. 3 and 4 show structural details of the harness guiding device according to one example embodiment of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, as shown in  Figs. 3 and 4, the gearbox 20 may include a casing 26, a higher speed shaft 22, and a lower speed shaft 24 engaged with the higher speed shaft. The casing 26 may be fixed to the arm body 4 via the fastener 54. The lower speed shaft 24 may be fixed to the arm body 5 via the fastener 52. The harness guiding device 10 comprises an axial through hole 21 and a hollow tube 12 penetrated the axial through hole 21. The hollow tube 12 is fixed to a lower speed shaft 24 of the gearbox 20 and defines a path for guiding the harness 30 through the gearbox 20. The axial through hole 21 extends lengthwise and is provided in the higher speed shaft 22 of the gearbox 20 of the industrial robot. The hollow tube 12 extends axially and runs through the axial through hole 21. An outer diameter of the tube 12 is smaller than an inner diameter of the axial through hole 21. Thus, a clearance is formed between the axial through hole 21 and hollow tube 12. The hollow tube 12 is fixed to a lower speed shaft 24 of the gearbox 20 and defines a path for guiding the harness 30 through the gearbox 20. During operation of the industrial robot, the higher speed shaft 22 of the gearbox 20 rotates at a higher speed. By the hollow tube 12, the harness is physically separated from the higher speed shaft 22. Even if the higher speed shaft 22 rotates, the harnesses 30 are not influenced by the higher speed shaft 22.

[0035] In some embodiments, the tube 12 may be a split type tube 12. The tube may comprise a plurality of sub tubes. In some embodiments, the tube 12 may comprise a mounting flange 14 provided at the fixed axial end. The tube 12 may be fixed to the lower speed shaft 24 of the gearbox 20 via the mounting flange 14.

[0036] In some embodiments, the tube 12 has a circular-section. It is to be understood that the tube may be of any other proper shape as long as the harnesses can move smoothly within the tube.

[0037] A split type tube makes it possible to allow the harnesses to pass through a gearbox with a smaller diameter. The reason is below. A distal end of the harnesses (i.e., the end adjacent to the end flange) is typically provided with user’s connectors which are configured to be connected to user’s tools. These user’s connectors may include air pipe interfaces, electrical interfaces, and the like. The size of the user’s connectors is normally larger than the outer diameter of the harnesses. During assembly of the tube, the tube is firstly arranged in the axial through hole 21, and the harness then passes through the tube. But, for a gearbox with a reduced diameter, when the tube is firstly arranged in the axial through hole 21, the size of the tube is too small to allow the harness (as well as the user’s  connectors) to pass. When the tube 12 is a split type tube 12, it is possible to pass the harness through the axial hole first, and then insert the tube in the axial hole between the harness and an inner surface of the axial hole. In this way, the harnesses can be placed into the tube 12 without modifying the structures of the gearbox.

[0038] In some embodiments, the tube 12 may comprise a first sub tubular body 122 and a matching second sub tubular body 124. It is to be understood that the tube 12 may include three or more sub tubular bodies. In some embodiments, during assembly of the tube 12, at least one of the first sub tubular body and the second sub tubular body is placed in the axial through hole 21 after the harness 30 passing through the axial through hole 21.

[0039] In some embodiments, the harness guiding device 10 may further comprise a limiting means 40 provided at a free axial end of the tube 12 opposite to the fixed axial end of the tube 12. The limiting means 40 is configured to restrict relative rotation of sub tubular bodies 122, 124 of the tube 12. During operation of the industrial robots, the harnesses may move as the manipulator move. By the limiting means 40, relative rotation of sub tubular bodies 122, 124 of the tube 12 can be prevented. Thus, the harnesses can be well protected.

[0040] In some embodiments, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the limiting means 40 may comprise a cover body 42 fixed to the free axial end of the tube 12. The cover body 42 may be a sheet body. The cover body may include a guide hole 44. The guide hole is sized to allow passage of the free axial ends of the sub tubular bodies of the tube 12. The guide hole is configured to restrict relative movement of the sub tubular bodies of the tube 12.

[0041] In some embodiments, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the cover body 42 may comprise an axial extension 46. The axial extension 46 axially extends from the guide hole and has an overlap with respect to the axial length of the harnesses. With this arrangement, the overlap of the axial extension 46 and the axial length of the tube 12 can further restrict relative movement of the sub bodies of the tube 12.

[0042] Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the gear box 20 comprising the harness guiding device 10 according to one example embodiment of the present disclosure shown in an explosive way. As shown in Fig. 5, the gearbox 20 may include a casing 26, a higher speed shaft 22, and a lower speed shaft 24. The casing 26 may be an annular body. The casing 26 may be fixed to the arm body 4 via the fasteners 54. The lower speed shaft 24 may be  fixed to the arm body 5 via the fasteners 54.

[0043] The higher speed shaft 22 may define an axial through hole (not shown) . The harness guiding device 10 may include two semi-cylindrical protective sub tubes 122, 124. When the two semi-cylindrical protective sub tubes 122, 124 are assembled together, the semi-cylindrical protective sub tubes 122, 124 defines a physical barrier separating the harnesses from the higher speed shaft 22. Each protective sub tubes 122, 124 may include a free end and a fixed end opposite to the free end. A mounting flange 14 is provided at the fixed end. The protective sub tubes 122, 124 are fixed to the lower speed shaft 24 at the mounting flange 14 via the fasteners 15. A limiting device 40 is further provided. The limiting device 40 may be a sheet body and may be fixed to the arm body 5 or the lower speed shaft 24 at the load end. The limiting device 40 is configured to surround the free end of the protective sub tubes 122, 124. In some embodiments, the cover body 42 may comprise an axial extension 46. The axial extension 46 has an overlap with respect to the axial length of the sub tubes 122, 124. With this arrangement, the overlap of the axial extension 46 and the axial length of the sub tubes 122, 124 can further restrict relative movement of the sub bodies of the tube 12.

[0044] According to the present disclosure, the harness guiding device can guide the harness through the gearbox with a simple protection configuration.

[0045] The description of the various embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration, but are not intended to be exhaustive or limited to the embodiments disclosed. Many modifications and variations will be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the described embodiments. The terminology used herein was chosen to best explain the principles of the embodiments, the practical application or technical improvement over technologies found in the marketplace, or to enable others of ordinary skill in the art to understand the embodiments disclosed herein.
