Description

METHODS AND APPARATUS TO PERFORM DATA COLLECTING / LOGGING IN RRC-CONNECTED MODEFIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to communication systems, and more particularly, the method and apparatus for data collecting and logging for AI / ML model training for UE-side model and NW-side model.BACKGROUND

[0002] Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Leaning (ML) have been widely used in wireless networks to improve performance, user experience, and reduce complexity / overhead. In the conventional network of the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) 5G new radio (NR) , by leveraging AI / ML technology to address challenges due to the increased complexity of foreseen deployments over the air interface, both for the network and UEs. Data collection is a crucial step in AI / ML Life cycle management (LCM) , which provides the foundation for creating effective and accurate models. Data collection plays a crucial role in enabling the different use cases. Therefore, it is important to define the best approaches for collecting data to support UE-side and network-side model inference, monitoring, and training.

[0003] The quality and quantity of the data directly impact the model's performance. Thus, it’s needed a data collection solution over the air interface for AI / ML model training and it is important to define the best approaches for collecting data to support UE-side and network-side model inference, monitoring, and training. A set of general data collection principles is expected to be considered. These include: the UE to support data logging; the UE to report the collected data periodically, event-based, and on-demand; The UE memory, processing power, energy consumption, signalling overhead should be considered.

[0004] MDT is standardized by 3GPP, which reduces the need for physical drive tests and offers a more efficient alternative by collecting similar data automatically from regular UE. MDT enables the collection of network performance data directly from user devices, which includes signal strength, quality, cell ID, and other relevant radio conditions. This data is crucial for operators to optimize network performance and quality of service. There are two primary types of MDT -Immediate MDT, for real-time data collection to quickly troubleshoot or optimize network issues, and Logged MDT, where data is collected, stored in the device, and later transmitted to the network for analysis. Immediate MDT supports data collection in CONNECTED mode, while logged MDT mainly targets data collection in IDLE / INACTIVE mode. A vast amount of data is required for AI / ML LCM procedures, not just in IDLE / INACTIVE mode but also in CONNECTED mode, immediate MDT would introduce large signalling overhead to the communication system and power consumption.

[0005] Since MDT has built a framework to collect data and measurement results from UEs, it can be further enhanced to support data collecting / logging for AI / ML model training, reducing the  specification and implementation effort.SUMMARY

[0006] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects, and is intended to neither identify key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineate the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0007] In this invention, apparatus and mechanisms are sought to enhance MDT further to support CONNECTED mode data collecting / logging across different RRC connections for AI / ML model training, inference and monitoring in wireless communication systems. The data collecting / logging mechanism is applicable for different LCM purposes for UE-side mode, NW-side model and two-sided model.

[0008] In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE.

[0009] The usual process involves transitioning a UE from RRC INACTIVE / IDLE to RRC CONNECTED mode, establishing a connection with the network, sending the active data collecting / logging configuration indication to the network, and receiving a data collecting / logging configuration control from network. UE receives the active data collecting / logging control from network and acquires effective collecting / logging configuration. The UE starts collecting / logging data in CONNECTED mode according to the collecting / logging configuration when start criteria are met, stores this data in variables or a file, and stops when stop criteria are met. Upon requested by the network or any report event is satisfied, the UE sends stored data / logs to the network.

[0010] Furthermore, UE needs to send UE capabilities for data collecting / logging, including but not limited to memory for data / log storage, battery power, CA / DC capability in different band and bandcombination, supported AI / ML features, and data types for collection. Data collecting / logging configurations are sent unidirectionally or bidirectionally through RRC procedures, and UEs start management for these configurations. The UE shall initiate the collecting / logging configuration release procedure upon receiving a RRC message to disable data collected / logged measurement, in another RAT or in a wrong PLMN, upon power off or upon deregistration. Furthermore, the mechanism for establishment or modification of a specific Data Radio Bearer (DRB) for reporting of collected data / logs is provided.

[0011] Moreover, during normal operations, network controls UE keep active collecting / logging configurations or reconfigure UE with new collecting / logging configuration replace previous ones, clearing / store any old data / logs based on instructions. Under abnormal conditions, if the network doesn't retrieve logs before new configurations are received, the UE either discards or preserves them based on instructions.

[0012] There are specific procedures to handle persistence and reporting of logs upon RRC  connection release, especially under abnormal conditions where logs might persist for a predetermined duration. Handover (HO) procedures include propagation of collecting / logging configurations and UE context retrieval, the target cell decides whether to continue reporting or release data / logs.

[0013] Abnormal case handling such as Handover Failure (HOF) or Radio Link Failure (RLF) indicates different procedures for releasing, discarding, or keeping the logs, with the network deciding post-RRC Re-establishment.

[0014] To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, the one or more aspects comprise the features hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. The following description and the annexed drawings set forth in detail certain illustrative features of the one or more aspects. These features are indicative, however, of but a few of the various ways in which the principles of various aspects may be employed, and this description is intended to include all such aspects and their equivalents.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0043] Figure 1 further illustrates simplified block diagrams for UE or NW server and OAM. In one example, the UE server is a UE-sided server, which is over the top and 3GPP transparent. In one example, the UE server is a UE-sided server, which is over the top but non-3GPP transparent. In another example, the UE server is a server in OAM domain. In another example, the UE server is a server in CN domain. The UE server receives and stores the data or data files and build up the dataset for model training. The UE server also performs model training with the dataset. The server organizes the received data into a structured format, known as a dataset, which can be used for further analysis or processing. This might involve data cleaning, data preprocessing, data transformation, and labeling. The UE server may have functional blocks that are similar to those of UE and gNB, which are used to interface with UE, gNB, and CN to handle the transmission and reception of control signaling, collected data, and assistance information. The UE server may include a data collection controller and an assistance information controller, which interface with equivalent functional blocks on the UE side or the network side. In one embodiment, the network node / entity / function (e.g., DCAF, CN, OAM, etc. ) performs authorization check and determine whether data collection and data delivery to the UE server is allowed or not. In one embodiment, the network node / entity / function (e.g., DCAF, CN, OAM, etc. ) also determines what types of data are allowed to be collected and delivered to the UE server. In one embodiment, the UE server is also referred to as an OTT server, or by other terminology common in the field.

[0044] Figure 2 illustrates the normal operation of data collecting / logging across RRC connections in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. After the UE is transferred from RRC INACTIVE / IDLE mode to RRC CONNECTED mode and establish RRC connection with NW, UE sends the active data collecting / logging configuration indication to the network with RRC message (e.g.,  RRCSetupComplete / RRCResumeComplete / RRCReestablishComplete message) . Then UE receives a data collecting / logging configuration control from the network, e.g., RRCReConfiguration message to indicate whether to restore, to suspend or to reconfigure the active data collecting / logging configuration. Through control of the active collecting / logging configuration procedure, UE restores, suspend, or reconfigures the effective collecting / logging configuration. Based on the data collecting / logging configuration, UE starts / resumes data collecting / logging in CONNECTED mode when the start criterion is met. UE maintains data collected / logged measurement configuration when the UE is in any state, i.e. IDLE / INACTIVE / CONNECTED, despite multiple periods interrupted by UE state transitions. In one embodiment, UE stops / suspends data collecting / logging in IDLE / INACTIVE mode. In one embodiment, UE stops / suspends data collecting / logging when a data collecting / logging timer expires, which controls the data collecting / logging. In another embodiment, UE stops / suspends data collecting / logging when data collecting / logging is disabled by NW. UE stores the collected data / measurement logs in a variable or in a data file. In one embodiment, UE receives the report retrieval request from the network and is asked by the network to send the collected data / measurement logs to the network. In another embodiment, the UE checks the configured report event, and reports collected data / measurement to network when the event is satisfied. The UE starts data / log reports and sends the collected data / measurement logs to the network. In one embodiment, UE sends the collected data / measurement logs via RRC signalling. In another embodiment, UE sends the collected data / measurement logs via one DRB particular for collected data / measurement logs.

[0045] Figure 3 illustrates exemplary general procedure to perform data collecting / logging across RRC connections over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. As the first step, UE establishes RRC connection with the network through e.g., RRC connection setup, RRC connection resume, or RRC connection re-establishment procedures. Then UE restores, suspends or reconfigure the effective data collecting / logging configuration from network through the procedure for control of the active data collecting / logging configuration, UE sends a data collecting / logging configuration indication e.g., ActiveLogConfiguration to the network through RRC message, and the UE receives data collecting / logging configuration from network. UE performs data collecting / logging according to the configuration provided by the network. UE stores the collected data / measurement logs in variable or a data file and sends those data / logs to the network. Finally, UE reports collected data / measurement logs to network. In one embodiment, the UE reports collected data / measurement logs when the report events are satisfied. In another embodiment, UE reports collected data through e.g. UEInformationResponse based on network request, e.g., UEInformationReuqest. In one embodiment, the network request is included in RRC message. In one embodiment, the network request is included in MAC CE. In one embodiment, the network request is included in DCI.

[0046] In one embodiment, as shown in Fig3 CONNECTED state 0, the UE is initiated to CONNECTED state, UE has no active collecting / logging configuration. UE complies and transfers UE capability information upon receiving the capability enquire from the network. UE sends UE capability  report indicating the use cases or AI / ML feature it can support and the corresponding data type which can be supported to be collected. UE receives data collecting / logging configuration from network and performs data collecting / logging according to the configurations. When UE release RRC connection, UE enters IDLE / INACTIVE state 1 from CONNECTED state 0.

[0047] After the UE enters IDLE / INACTIVE state 1, in one embodiment, UE keeps data collected / logged measurement configuration, store / keep collected data / logs and stops data collecting / logging.

[0048] In another embodiment, as shown in Fig3 UE re-enters CONNECTED state 2 from IDLE / INACTIVE state 1, as the UE has an activable collecting / logging configuration, UE sends an indication to the network the effective / active data collecting / logging configuration. In one embodiment, the data collecting / logging configuration is associated with an ID, which is assigned by the network. In this case, UE includes the ID of the effective / active data collecting / logging configuration in the indication. In one embodiment, the indication is included in the RRCSetupComplete, RRCResumeComplete, or RRCReestablishmentComplete message. Then UE receives response from the network, which provides the data collecting / logging configuration control information from the network, e.g., through RRCReConfiguration or LogMeasurementConfiguration. With the data collecting / logging configuration control information, in one embodiment, the network reconfigures the data collecting / logging configuration; In one embodiment, the network acks the effectiveness of the data collecting / logging configuration indicated by UE. UE restores the effective data collecting / logging configuration and continue to use the configuration for data collecting / logging; In one embodiment, the networks suspend the data collecting / logging configuration. UE keeps the data collecting / logging configuration but suspends the data collecting / logging configuration to use; In another embodiment, the networks suspend the reporting configuration of the data collecting / logging configuration. UE keeps the data collecting / logging configuration, but suspends the reporting configuration of the data collecting / logging configuration, in which case UE keeps data collecting / logging but suspends reporting in this RRC connection. When UE release RRC connection, UE enters IDLE / INACTIVE state 1 from CONNECTED state 2.

[0049] Figure 4 illustrates exemplary procedure for each step of data collecting / logging across RRC connections operation over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention.

[0050] Figure 4.1 illustrates exemplary procedure of UE capability reporting for data collecting / logging configuration over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, the UE capability report provides information on UE memory (for data collecting / logging storage) and remaining battery power. In one embodiment, the UE capability reports indicate whether data collecting / measurement logging across RRC connections in CONNECTED mode is supported or not. In one embodiment, the UE capability report provides the information on the CA / DC capability on different band and band combination, based on which the network can utilize the CA / DC  capability of the UE to collect the data and measurement logs cross different frequencies. In one embodiment the UE capability report provides information on the supported AI / ML-enabled features (e.g., AI-enabled BM, AI-enabled CSI prediction, AI-enabled positioning, AI-enabled mobility, etc) . In one embodiment, the UE capability report provides the information on the supported data type (e.g., raw channel data, CSI information, UE position information, UE speed, etc) for different AI / ML-enabled features. In one embodiment, the UE capability report provides the information on whether non-standardized data type can be collected.

[0051] Figure 4.2 illustrates exemplary procedure for control of the active logging configuration over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, UE sends a data collecting / logging configuration indication e.g., ActiveLogConfigurationIndication to the network through RRC message. In one embodiment, logging configuration indication can be sent by UE assistance information message, e.g. UEAssistanceInformation. In one embodiment, the data collecting / logging configuration is associated with an ID, which is assigned by the network. In this case, UE includes the ID of the effective / active data collecting / logging configuration in the indication. UE can sent the ID in the complete message, e.g., RRCSetupComplete, RRCResumeComplete or RRCReestablishedComplete message when transit to the connected mode.

[0052] In one embodiment, the UE is initiated to CONNECTED state, UE has no active collecting / logging configuration, UE sends an indication to the network with an ID that represents there is no activable collecting / logging configuration, e.g., 0 / null / NaN / None. In another embodiment, the UE has an activable collecting / logging configuration, UE sends an indication to the network with an ID that represents the activable collecting / logging configuration. The Active data collecting / logging configuration indication may include but no limited to the data collecting / logging configuration UE configured, data collecting / logging configuration ID, in which case the data collecting / logging configuration is associated to an ID.

[0053] Then UE receives active data collecting / logging control. In one embodiment, active data collecting / logging control include ACK of the effectiveness of the original UE configured data collecting / logging configuration, UE keeps the original configuration and configuration timer keeps running (e.g., T330) . In one embodiment, active data collecting / logging control include reconfigure the data collecting / logging configuration, UE reconfigures the data collecting / logging configuration and restart the timer (e.g., T330) . In one embodiment, the NW suspends the data collecting / logging configuration. Consequently, UE suspends the data collecting / logging configuration, UE keeps the original configuration, but considers the original configuration not to take effect. In one embodiment, the NW suspends the reporting configuration of the data collecting / logging configuration. Consequently, UE suspends the reporting configuration of the data collecting / logging configuration, UE considers the configuration of measurement part to take effect and performs data collecting / logging, original timer (e.g., T330) keeps running. While UE considers the configuration of report part not to take effect and stops data / log reports. In one embodiment, the NW suspends the measurement configuration of the data  collecting / logging configuration. Consequently, UE suspends the measurement configuration of the data collecting / logging configuration, considers the configuration of measurement part not to take effect and only performs data reporting. In one embodiment, UE consider the data collecting / logging configuration is active in CONNECTED state until a timer (e.g., logging duration timer, T330) expires, which is used to control the validity period of a data collecting / logging configuration. In one embodiment, UE considers the data collecting / logging configuration is active in CONNECTED state until explicit suspending / stopping of the configuration is received from the NW side. When UE receives suspending / stopping of the configuration, in one embodiment, UE may suspend / stop the original timer (e.g., T330) . In another embodiment, UE keeps the timer running (e.g., T330) .

[0054] Figure 4.3 illustrates exemplary procedure for data collecting / logging configuration over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention.

[0055] Figure 4.3.1 illustrates exemplary unidirectional procedure for data collecting / logging configuration over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, the data collecting / logging configuration is provided with a unidirectional RRC signalling procedure. Network initiates the procedure to UE in RRC Connected by sending, e.g., LoggedMeasurementConfiguration. When UE receives the LoggedMeasurementConfiguration message, UE discards the current data collecting / logging configuration as well as the logged measurement information, stores the received data collecting / logging configuration, and starts a timer to control the validity of the configuration (e.g. T330) with the timer value set to e.g. loggingDuration.

[0056] Figure 4.3.2 illustrates exemplary directional procedure for data collecting / logging configuration over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, the data collecting / logging configuration is provided with a directional RRC signalling procedure. Network initiates the procedure to UE in RRC Connected by sending, e.g., RRCReconfiguration message. When UE receives the RRCReconfiguration message, UE stores the received data collecting / logging configuration. In one embodiment, UE discards the original logged measurement configuration as well as the collected data / logged measurement information. In another embodiment, UE modifies the data collected / logged measurement configuration and maintains the collected data / logged measurement information per previous configuration if exists; additionally, UE adds a leap in timestamp or a mark indicating it’s the starting of collected data / logged measurement for the new configuration. Besides, UE (re) starts a timer to control the effectiveness of the configuration (e.g. T330) with the timer value set to the loggingDuration.

[0057] The received data collecting / logging configuration can be associated with an ID and is stored by the UE in any state. In one embodiment, the ID is assigned by the NW. The configuration is stored in UE Inactive AS context. When UE is transit from the INACTIVE to CONNECTED state, UE sends the configuration ID for NW to retrieve UE configuration. If UE Inactive AS context can be retrieved by the current serving RAN node, UE restores the Inactive AS context as well as the data collecting / logging configuration. In one embodiment, the report tunnel is UP-based, UE  established / modify a DRB to send the collected data / measurement logging.

[0058] A release operation is supported for both unidirectional and directional data collecting / logging measurement configuration. In one embodiment, a release operation for data collected / logged measurement configuration in the UE is realized by release of the data collected / logged measurement or by configuration clearance in case a duration timer stopping, or expiration condition is met. Upon expiry of the timer (e.g. T330) the UE shall release the configuration, in one embodiment, UE discards the data collected / logged measurement configuration as well as the collected data / logged measurement information; in one embodiment, discard the measurement part configuration but keep the report configuration part. In one embodiment, UE keeps the collected data / logs and the report configuration part for 48 hours from the moment the duration timer for logging expired. In one embodiment, UE keeps the report configuration part as long as the collected data / logs are kept.

[0059] In one embodiment, UE shall initiate the release procedure upon receiving a RRC message to disable data collected / logged measurement. In one embodiment, UE shall initiate the release procedure when UE is in another RAT. In one embodiment, UE shall initiate the release procedure when UE is in a wrong PLMN. In one embodiment, UE shall initiate the release procedure when power off or upon deregistration. In these situations, UE shall stop the running timer (e.g. T330) ; in one embodiment, UE discards the data collected / logged measurement configuration as well as the collected data / logged measurement information; In another embodiment, UE discards the measurement part configuration but keep the report configuration part. In one embodiment, UE keeps the collected data / logs and the report configuration part for 48 hours from the moment the duration timer for logging expired. In one embodiment, UE keeps the report configuration part as long as the collected data / logs are kept.

[0060] In one embodiment, UP based data / log report is supported. For the configuration release procedure, in one embodiment, UE discards the data collected / logged measurement configuration as well as the collected data / logged measurement information, UE releases the DRB used for sending the collected data / measurement logging. In another embodiment, discard the measurement part configuration but keep the report configuration part and keep the collected data / log, UE suspends the DRB and reports the data / log when UE back to normal state (power on / in a PLMN in PLMN list / registration) . In one embodiment, a particular DRB is configured for collected data / logs report. UE establishes / modify the DRB according to the data collecting / logging reconfiguration. In one embodiment, a priority is assigned to the DRB by the network. In one example, the DRB has lowest priority than other DRBs.

[0061] The IEs in data collecting / logging configuration contains the measurement configuration part, including such as Measurement quantity for different use case, Configuration of the triggering of logging event, etc. and the reporting configuration part, including such as Configuration of the triggering of reporting events, Data Recording Session Reference, etc. In one example, the data collecting / logging configuration provides but not limited to the following information or any combinations of these information:

[0081] In one embodiment, the vendor specific measurement configuration is provided by a configuration container. Accordingly, the collected data / logs for the vendor specific measurement are  carried in a reporting container when reporting. In one embodiment, the configuration container carries a variety of information, but not limited to: the use cases or AI / ML enabled feature, vendor specific ID, the specific format for reporting, e.g. ASN. 1 or XML.

[0082] Figure 4.4 illustrates exemplary procedure of data collecting / logging across RRC connection in CONNECTED over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. UE starts / resumes data collecting / logging in CONNECTED mode as per the data collected / logged measurement configuration. In one embodiment, UE starts data collecting / logging when start criteria are met; and UE stops data collecting / logging when the stop criteria are met or in IDLE / INCATIVE mode. In one embodiment, UE performs use case specific measurements only when the corresponding feature is available and only for logging intervals for which the feature is available. In one embodiment, when a logging area is configured, data collecting / logging are performed as long as the UE is within this logging area (e.g., a cell list) . In one embodiment, when one or multiple PLMNs are configured, UE performs data collecting / logging when UE is within the PLMN list. In one embodiment, UE collects data and logs measurements and continues data collecting / logging according to the data collecting / logging measurement configuration until UE memory reserved for data collection is full. In this case the UE stops logging, stops the data collecting / logging duration timer and starts the another timer, e.g. 48 hours timer, UE keeps the collected / logged data untill the timer (e.g., 48-hour timer) expires.

[0083] UE stores the collected data / logs in a variable or a data file during the data collecting / logging process, and UE maintains data collected / logged measurement configuration and collected data / logs when the UE is in any state, i.e. IDLE / INACTIVE / CONNECTED, despite multiple periods interrupted by UE state transitions. In one embodiment, the data collecting / log configuration message indicates whether to start data collecting / logging explicitly, e.g., by one indication / flag. In one embodiment, a timer is set to control data collecting / logging. UE starts the timer (control the data collecting / logging) when UE starts data collecting / logging. The UE stops the timer when the data collecting / logging stop criterion is met, in one embodiment, the data collecting / logging stop criterion is that the data collecting / logging configuration is released; in another embodiment, the data collecting / logging stop criterion is that UE is move to a cell outside of the PLMN list configured by the network.

[0084] In one embodiment, the starting criteria include but not limited to a variety of conditions or any combination of following conditions:

[0085] ■ Reception of explicit command to start data collecting / logging, in RRC message, MAC CE or DCI;

[0086] ■ The targeted use case or AI / ML-enabled feature is enabled;

[0087] ■ UE moves to a new cell, which is in the configured data collecting / logging area;

[0088] ■ UE is in the associated PLMN.

[0089] ■ The battery power is equal or above a threshold (high power) .

[0090] ■ UE is in good radio condition, e.g., L3 RSRP is equal to or above a threshold, T310 is stopped.

[0091] ■ Current gNB / cell / UE configuration matches the one the data collecting / logging is targeted / associated to.

[0092] In one embodiment, the stopping criteria include but not limited to a variety of conditions or any combination of following conditions:

[0093] ■ Reception of explicit command to stop data collecting / logging, in RRC message, MAC CE or DCI;

[0094] ■ Expiration / stop condition met for a timer, which control the collecting / logging duration and is (re) started when UE starts data collecting / logging.;

[0095] ■ UE memory for storing data / logs is full;

[0096] ■ The targeted use case or AI / ML-enabled feature is disabled;

[0097] ■ UE is outside of the configured data collecting / logging area;

[0098] ■ UE is outside of the associated PLMN.

[0099] ■ The battery power is below a threshold (low power) .

[0100] ■ UE is in bad radio condition, e.g. L3 RSRP is equal to or above a threshold, or T310 is running.

[0101] ■ Current gNB / cell / UE configuration doesn’ t match the one the data collecting / logging is targeted / associated to.

[0102] ■ RRC connection is released.

[0103] ■ The data collecting / logging configuration is released.

[0104] Figure 4.5 illustrates exemplary procedure of reporting data / logs across RRC connections over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, when the network decides to retrieve the data / logs from the UE, UE Information procedure is used to request UE to send the collected measurement logs through e.g., UEInformationRequest. Then UE sends the collected data / logs through e.g., UEInformationResponse. In one embodiment, DRB is supported to transfer the collected data / logs, NW resumes the DRB used for data / logs transfer by sending an indication in a RRC message, e.g., RRCReconfiguration.

[0105] With every request, the network may receive a part of the total UE data / log. To indicate the reported data is a segment, the UE shall include a data availability indicator in UEInformatonResponse message to convey the information that further measurement information is available. A UE configured to perform data collected / logged measurements indicates the availability of data / logs by means of a one bit / one indication, in RRCSetupComplete, RRCResumeComplete or RRCReestablishmentComplete message during connection establishment, even though the logging period has not ended. An indicator shall be also provided in UEInformationResponse message during report retrieval in case the UE has not transferred the total log in one RRC message in order to indicate the remaining data availability. In multiple RRC transmissions for segmented data / logs reporting, FIFO order is followed, i.e., the UE should provide oldest available measurement entries in earliest message. Each reported part should be "self-decodable" , i.e., interpretable even in case all the other parts are not  available. In one embodiment, information regarding the specific use case for which the data was collected is included in the indicator.

[0106] The logged measurement report / collected data consists of but not limited to the measurement results for the serving cell and / or neighboring cells (the measurement quantity) , available UE measurements performed in CONNECTED for intra-frequency / inter-frequency / inter-RAT, time stamp and location information. In one embodiment, the reported data include information regarding the specific use case for which the data is reported. In one embodiment, the reported data includes information regarding the RAN configuration, condition as well as UE condition for the use case.

[0107] Figure 4.6 illustrates another exemplary procedure of reporting data / logs across RRC connections over the air interface in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, UE checks whether the triggering events configured by the network is met. When the reporting triggering event is met, UE starts data / logs reporting or sends availability indication. In one embodiment, UE sends the availability indication or report data / logs when UE the memory for the collected data / logs is equal to or below a threshold (low memory) or any combination of these conditions. In one embodiment, UE sends the availability indication or report data / logs when the data volume is equal to or above a threshold.

[0108] In one embodiment, the reporting data / logs are transmitted through MeasurementReport RRC message.

[0109] In another embodiment, a DRB is used for data / log reporting. In one embodiment, the DRB is by default is suspended, until the resume indication / request is received from the network. Then UE resumes the DRB. In one embodiment, the DRB is by default resumed. UE indicates the availability of the collected data / logs through SR / BSR procedure and sends the collected data / logs through LCP procedure when UL grant is received from the network. In one embodiment if the reporting event is configured, UE indicates the availability of the collected data / logs through SR / BSR procedure when the event is satisfied, e.g., the stored data / logs volume is equal to or above a threshold.

[0110] The collected data / logs include a variety of information, but not limited to:

[0111] ■ The use cases, AI / ML-enabled feature the collected data / logs are used for;

[0112] ■ Physical cell identity of the logged cell;

[0113] ■ Carrier frequency;

[0114] ■ RSRP, RSRQ, RSSI;

[0115] ■ L1-RSRP, beam index, which is above threshold;

[0116] ■ UE position information;

[0117] ■ Channel matrix, CSI feedback;

[0118] ■ channel impulse response (CIR) or power delay profile (PDP) ;

[0119] ■ Performance indicator, e.g., system level KPI or immediate KPI such as throughput, prediction accuracy, HOF rate, etc.

[0120] ■ Time stamp;

[0121] ■ Data collecting / logging reference;

[0122] ■ Data collecting / logging session reference:

[0123] ■ Server ID, IP address

[0124] ■ Vendor specific measurements in reporting container.

[0125] ■ The correlation between the primary measurement samples and the secondary measurement samples, e.g., in form of correlation ID.

[0126] ■ The equipment ID

[0127] ■ Logging of additional information, configuration for RAN / cell configuration / UE condition

[0128] In normal operation, UE discards old data collecting / logging configuration, the collected data / logs for the old configuration, when the timer to control the validity of the configuration expires, or when UE memory is full when UE is configured with a new data collecting / logging configuration. In one embodiment, report is stored if the UE cannot report e.g. due to change of PLMN or no valid server address available.

[0129] Under abnormal circumstances, there may be instances where power off / deregistration / UE in wrong PLMN / in another RAT, UE stores the report and starts another timer (e.g., 48 hours) timer, and keeps the collected / logged data till the timer (e.g., 48-hour timer) expires.

[0130] Figure 5 illustrates exemplary block diagram of the cross correlation between measurement samples in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, the correlation between the measurement samples is configured, i.e., certain measurement is a primary one and that secondary measurements shall be collected whenever a sample of the primary measurement is taken. In one embodiment, the primary measurement is the measurement on the serving cell and the secondary measurements are the measurements on the neighbouring cells. In one embodiment, the primary measurement is the measurement on one frequency, e.g. the frequency of the serving cell and the secondary measurements are the measurements on other frequencies, which are correlated to the primary measurement objective of the serving cell. In one embodiment, the primary measurements are the measurements on a primary set of beams and the second measurements are the measurements on a secondary set of beams. In one embodiment, the primary measurement are the measurements on a primary set of timeslots / subframes / frames / time durations and the second measurement are the measurement on a secondary set of timeslots / subframes / frames / time durations. In one embodiment, the correlation between the primary measurement and the secondary measurement is assigned by an ID, e.g., correlation ID.

[0131] In one embodiment, the IEs in data collecting / logging configuration contains the measurement configuration part, including such as Measurement quantity for different use case, Configuration of the triggering of logging event, etc. and the reporting configuration part, including such as Configuration of the triggering of reporting events, Data Recording Session Reference, etc. In one embodiment, the data collecting / logging configuration is stored in the UE Inactive AS context, which can be retrieved by the latest serving cell when UE is transferred from the INACTIVE to CONNECTED.

[0132] Figure 6 illustrates the data collecting / logging operation across RRC connections during HO in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. In one embodiment, when the NW is about to perform HO for a UE, the source node will coordinate with the target node about the data collecting / logging configuration. The data collecting / logging configuration for the UE will propagate during HO and UE context retrieval. After HO, UE indicates the availability of stored data / logs to the target cell, and the target cell can decide whether to retrieve the remining data / logs or let the UE to release the remaining data / logs. In one embodiment, the data retrieval and reporting can use UE Information procedure. In one embodiment, if a DRB is used for data / logs reporting, the reporting of data / logs can continue with PDCP data recovery or PDCP re-establishment if the DRB is not released. Otherwise, the stored data / logs are discarded if the DRB is released by the target node.

[0133] Figure 7 illustrates the abnormal case handling of data collecting / logging across RRC connections in accordance with embodiments of the current invention. When HOF or RLF occurs, UE triggers RRC Re-establishment procedure. In one embodiment, UE releases the data collecting / log configurations when initiating the RRC Re-establishment procedure. In one embodiment, UE discards the stored data / logs when initiating the RRC Re-establishment procedure. In one embodiment, UE keeps the stored data / logs when initiating the RRC Re-establishment procedure. When UE receives the RRCReestablishment / RRCSetup message, UE indicates the availability of collected data / logs through RRCReestablishmentComplete  / RRCSetupComplete message to the network. The NW can decide whether to retrieve the remaining data / logs.
