Abstract

The present invention provides a storage container comprising a body forming a storage compartment (2) having a base portion (4) and a pair of side portions (6a, 6b, 8a, 8b) that extends from the base portion (4) to form an opening (10) over a top portion (12) of the storage compartment (2), a lid (14), a brim (37), at least two hinges (18, 20), each hinge (18, 20) affixed to each corresponding opposite sides (22, 24) of the lid (14), at least one vent plugs (30, 32) configured to seal corresponding vents (34, 36) affixed to the lid (14), a gasket (38) affixed to the bottom of the lid (14), two vacuum release mechanisms (40, 42) configured to disengage the vent plugs (30, 32) on the vents (34, 36) prior to lifting of the lid (14), and at least two knobs (44, 46, 48, 50) affixed to a side of the lid (14) configured to rotate and lift the lid (14) away from the storage compartment (2) from the top portion (12) of the opening (10) of the storage compartment (2).

[0001] A STORAGE CONTAINER

[0002] FIELD OF INVENTION

[0003] The present invention relates to a storage container. In particular, the present invention provides a storage container which utilizes counter forcing rotary mechanism to vertically lift the lid of the container that retains the top sealing integrity.

[0004] BACKGROUND ART

[0005] Storage containers are units designed to store and organize various items, ranging from household goods to industrial materials. From stackable bins for small items to large crates for bulk storage, these containers play a crucial role in maintaining orderliness and enhancing productivity in both residential and commercial settings. For example, conventional food storage containers are vessels designed to store, transport, and preserve food. They come in various shapes and sizes. These containers play a crucial role in maintaining the freshness, flavour, and safety of food by protecting it from external elements such as air, moisture, and contaminants. Some major drawbacks in using conventional food storage containers include the need for multiple motions to open or close the container, resulting in inconvenience, especially when dealing with multiple containers at once.

[0006] Numerous containers have been invented for in the application of various storage containers.

[0007] One example of a storage container is disclosed in Canadian Patent Application No. 3203761 , hereinafter referred to as CA 3203761 entitled “Container and latching system” having a filing date of December 16, 2020, Applicant: Yeti Coolers, LLC. CA 3203761 discloses a container having a base and a lid. The lid is rotatable about a hinge from a closed configuration to an open configuration and is secured through one or more latching assemblies. The latching assembly comprise a latch body, a locking member, a biasing member, and an activating member. The container also includes handles and attachment points for accessories. A carry strap may be attached to the base of the container for lifting and carrying the container.

[0008] Another example of a storage container is disclosed in the United States of America Granted Patent No. US 11383895 B2, hereinafter referred to as US 11383895 B2 entitled “Storage container with clip” having a filing date of February 9, 2017, Applicant: The Decor Corporation Pty. Ltd. US 11383895 B2 discloses a storage container having a base with an upper opening defined by a peripheral top edge of the base, a detachable lid with a circumferential seal that securely fits over the upper opening, and a clip attached to the base that can rotate between an engaged position, where it secures the lid against removal, and a disengaged position. The clip features a contact surface that, during its rotation from the engaged to the disengaged position, lifts the lid.

[0009] A further example of a storage container is disclosed in the United States of America Patent Application No. US 15 / 458,416, hereinafter referred to as US 15 / 458,416, entitled “Touch and seal self-closing container” having a filing date of March 14, 2017, Applicant: Ningbo Lisi Houseware Co., Ltd.,. US 15 / 458,416 discloses a container equipped with a self-closing cover features an open mouth with an upper rim housing two elongated cutouts for lock levers positioned at opposite ends. Two lock levers, each possessing an upper rim with a catch and a bottom wall situated below the upper rim, pivot within the cutouts. The lid fits the open mouth of the container. The lid has an outer rim with downward projections on its lower surface at opposite ends and grooves on its upper surface. Upon placing the lid on the container's open mouth and pressing it down, the projections exert pressure on the lock levers' bottom walls, causing them to rotate inwardly and enabling the catches to engage with the grooves on the lid, thereby locking the levers onto the lid. As outlined above, various food storage containers with moveable lid have been developed for storing food. However, none of the prior arts disclose a food storage container which provides an air-tight seal, eliminates resistance from the vacuum inside the container before lifting the lid, eliminates the risk of loss of removeable vent plugs while requiring lesser steps for opening the lid, minimal effort to clean the container, and minimizing liquid spills during use.

[0010] SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0011] The present invention relates to a storage container. In particular, the present invention provides a storage container comprising: a body forming a storage compartment having a base portion and a pair of side portions that extends from the base portion to form an opening over a top portion of the storage compartment; a lid configured to fit over the opening of the top portion of the storage compartment; a brim affixed to the top portion of the opening of the storage compartment configured to engage the storage compartment to the lid; at least two hinges, each hinge affixed to each corresponding opposite sides of the lid configured to connect to the lid and the storage compartment through a clip at each side of the lid; at least one vent plug, each of the vent plug is located at a bottom of each of the clip configured to seal corresponding vent affixed to the lid; a gasket affixed to the bottom of the lid configured to engage to the brim to optimize sealing performance; two vacuum release mechanisms configured to disengage the vent plug on the vents prior to lifting of the lid; and at least two knobs affixed to corresponding sides of the lid configured to rotate and lift the lid away from the storage compartment from the top portion of the opening of the storage compartment; characterized in that the clips further comprises at least two handles affixed to the clips, each of the clip is affixed to one handle configured to engage at the flange of the storage compartment; the handle and the flange utilize counter forcing rotary mechanism to transfer energy from the handle to the flange via knobs by unlocking the clip and rotating the handle, that results in pushing down the brim at even time within a single motion to lift the lid simultaneously; each clip is configured to connect to the lid and the storage compartment through a snap-fit mechanism of the flange and the clip.

[0012] One aspect of the present invention provides that the gasket is an irregular shape gasket engineered to induce interference along a side of the container augmenting leakproof reliability.

[0013] Yet another aspect of the present invention provides that the storage container further incorporates a magnetized surface either on the clips, the lid, or on the body of the storage compartment to enable the magnetized surface to be attracted by either of the clips, the lid, or the body of the storage compartment for a secure mechanism.

[0014] Yet another aspect of the present invention provides that the storage compartment is single walled having a thermal sleeve which wraps around the wall to extend duration of temperature maintenance, impacts absorption, and provides added grip.

[0015] Yet another aspect of the present invention provides that the storage compartment is double walled having a thermal sleeve in a middle of the storage compartment.

[0016] Yet another aspect of the present invention provides that instead of two clips, the storage container incorporates a one-side clip and a one-side hinge affixed to the corresponding sides of the storage container with the clip and the hinge located opposite to each other with initial disengagement of the lid enabling the hinge to remain on one side of the container.

[0017] Yet another aspect of the present invention provides that the storage container utilizes different material variations including metal and plastic.

[0018] One aspect of the present invention provides a storage container comprising: a body forming a storage compartment having a base portion and a pair of side portions that extends from the base portion to form an opening over a top portion of the storage compartment; a lid having at least two clips, the lid configured to fit over the opening of the top portion of the storage compartment; a brim affixed to the top portion of the opening of the storage compartment configured to engage the storage compartment to the lid; a gasket affixed to the bottom of the lid configured to engage to the brim to optimize sealing performance; characterized in that the clips further comprise at least two handles affixed to the clips; the handle and the flange utilize counter forcing rotary mechanism to transfer energy from the handle to the flange by unclipping the clips and pushing out the flange at even time within a single motion to lift the lid simultaneously; the storage container comprises a wall affixed to the lid to support the gasket; and the clips further comprise specific profiles pivotable to corresponding opposite sides of the lid through corresponding heads of the specific profiles, for pushing down the flange when the handle rotates, each handle is configured to connect to the lid and the storage compartment through a snap-fit mechanism (82a, 82b) affixed to the clip (64a, 64b), configured to engage to a flange affixed to the storage compartment (50).

[0082] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0083] The present invention relates to a storage container. In particular, the present invention provides a food storage container which utilizes counter forcing rotary mechanism to vertically lift the lid of the container that retains the top sealing integrity. Hereinafter, this specification will describe the present invention according to the preferred embodiments. It is to be understood that limiting the description to the preferred embodiments of the invention is merely to facilitate discussion of the present invention and it is envisioned without departing from the scope of the appended claims.

[0084] The present invention provides a storage container that requires lesser steps for opening the lid, minimal effort to clean the container, and minimizing liquid spills during use. With the present invention, it provides an air-tight seal, eliminates resistance from the vacuum inside the container before lifting the lid, eliminates the risk of loss of removeable vent plugs.

[0085] It should be noted that in describing the terminology of a clip and a handle throughout the description of the present invention, the handle is an element which a user can hold, and the clip is an element that is snap-fitted with the brim of the storage container.

The storage container (84) according to Claim 14, wherein the storage container (84) further incorporates a magnetized surface (119a, 119b, 119c, 119d, 119e) either on the clips (106a, 106b), the lid (98), or on the body of the storage compartment (86) to enable the magnetized surface to be attracted by either of the clips (106a, 106b), the lid (98), or the body of the storage compartment (86) for a secure mechanism.

17. The storage container (84) according to Claim 14, wherein the storage compartment (86) is single walled having a thermal sleeve which wraps around the wall to extend duration of temperature maintenance, impacts absorption, and provides added grip.

A storage container (122) comprising: a body forming a storage compartment (124) having a base portion (126) and a pair of side portions (128a, 128b, 130a, 130b) that extends from the base portion (126) to form an opening (132) over a top portion (134) of the storage compartment (124); a lid (136) having at least two clips (138a, 138b) and at least one vent (140) positioned on a top surface of the lid (136), the lid (136)configured to fit over the opening (132) of the top portion (134) of the storage compartment (124); a brim (142) affixed to the top portion (134) of the opening (132) of the storage compartment (124) configured to engage the storage compartment (124) to the lid (136); a gasket (146) affixed to the bottom of the lid (136) configured to engage to the brim (142) to optimize sealing performance; at least two hinges, each hinge affixed to each corresponding opposite sides of the lid; characterized in that the clips (138a, 138b) further comprise at least two handles (148a, 148b) affixed to the clips (138a, 138b), and specific profiles (152a, 152b) pivotable to corresponding opposite sides (154a, 154b) of the lid (136) through corresponding heads (156a, 156b) of the specific profiles (152a, 152b), each clip (138a, 138b) is configured to connect to the lid (136) and the storage compartment (124) through at least one snap-fit mechanism (158a, 158b) affixed to the clip (138a, 138b) configured to engage to a flange (159) affixed to the brim (142) of the storage compartment (124), the hinges equipped with corresponding heads of the specific profiles provide interference during rotation of the handle, which pushes the top part of the body outward and simultaneously deforms the gasket to reduce friction during lid lifting.

A storage container (160) comprising: a body forming a storage compartment (162) having a base portion (164) and a pair of side portions (166a, 166b, 168a, 168b) that extends from the base portion (164) to form an opening (170) over a top portion (172) of the storage compartment (162); a lid (174) having at least two clips (176a, 176b) and at least one vent (178) positioned on a top surface of the lid (174), the lid (174) configured to fit over the opening (170) of the top portion (172) of the storage compartment (162); a brim (180) affixed to the top portion (172) of the opening (170) of the storage compartment (162) configured to engage the storage compartment (162) to the lid (174); a gasket (184) affixed to the bottom of the lid (174) configured to engage to the brim (180) to optimize sealing performance; characterized in that the clips (176a, 176b) further comprise at least two handles (186a, 186b) affixed to the clips (176a, 176b);the clips (176a, 176b) further comprise specific profiles (190a, 190b) pivotable to corresponding opposite sides (192a, 192b) of the lid (174) through corresponding heads (194a, 194b) of the specific profiles (190a, 190b), each clip (176a, 176b) is configured to connect to the lid (174) and the storage compartment (162) through a snap-fit mechanism (196a, 196b) affixed to the clip (176a, 176b) configured to engage to a flange (202) affixed to the brim (180) of the storage compartment (162); and the clips (176a, 176b) further comprise at least two hooks (198a, 198b) affixed to the heads (194a, 194b) of the specific profiles (190a, 190b), each of the clip (176a, 176b) is affixed to one hook (198a, 198b) configured to rotate near the corresponding groove (200a, 200b) of the lid (174) when the clip (176a, 176b) is unclipped to push out the gasket (184) towards the brim(180), each of the hook (198a, 198b) provides counter force to the gasket (184) by rotating each of the corresponding handle (186a, 186b), thereby pushing the gasket (184) outward and slipping out from the body due to pressure build up between the gasket (184) and container opening.
