AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The development of vertiports for flying vehicles faces challenges in managing turbulent air and downdraft, which can disrupt passengers and damage surrounding objects, while also requiring safety features for emergencies such as fires.

Method used

A vertiport design with a landing zone featuring openings for turbulent air discharge, ducting systems, and a reversible barrier that isolates the landing pad, combined with aerodynamic surface treatments and air-guiding structures to manage airflow and contain potential fires.

Benefits of technology

The design provides a safer and more convenient landing experience by reducing noise and turbulence, while enabling rapid response to emergencies, allowing multiple vertiports to operate closely and accommodating various flying vehicles.

Abstract

There is provided a vertiport for a flying vehicle, the vertiport comprising a landing zone, the landing zone comprising: a landing pad for receiving the flying vehicle; and at least a portion of the landing zone has openings therein for receiving and discharging at least turbulent air from the flying vehicle, wherein turbulent air received through the openings in the landing zone is vented through an outlet remote from the landing pad, wherein the landing pad is isolatable from the remainder of the landing zone.
