More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a beverage straw system used to create one or more flavored or otherwise enhanced beverages in a beverage container, and to a combination plug and garnish skewer used with the beverage straw system and other beverage straws.BACKGROUND

Cocktails typically involve a combination of spirits, liqueurs, mixers, and garnishes, each requiring specific measurements and techniques to achieve the desired flavor profile. In a mobile setting, limited access to specialized tools like shakers or strainers, as well as a constrained workspace, can complicate the preparation process. Additionally, maintaining the proper balance of ingredients and ensuring freshness can be difficult when not working in a fully equipped bar environment.SUMMARY
[0004] Beverage straws are commonly used in both commercial and consumer beverage applications, including in the context of ready -to-drink and ready -to-mix products. To preserve the quality and freshness of ingredients, such as powders or perishable additives, plugs, stoppers, or caps are often used to seal one end of a straw containing the ingredients. These sealing components can help prevent exposure to air and moisture which can negatively impact beverage flavor, shelf life, and overall product integrity. Despite their functional importance, conventional straw plugs are typically limited to a single-use and are often discarded afteropening the straw. This creates unnecessary waste while yielding no additional utilitarian benefits beyond single-use sealing.

Supplying the skewers as separate items increases packaging complexity and creates more single-use waste when used with beverage sealing components. In particular, the use of distinct components for sealing and garnishing can lead to a less streamlined and less sustainable experience for both producers and consumers. Traditional solutions do not address the potential for a single component to fulfill both the sealing and garnishing functions for beverages, nor do these solutions optimize for environmental sustainability or user convenience.
[0006] The present disclosure generally relates to a beverage straw system for use in creating one or more flavored or otherwise enhanced beverages in beverage containers. In some embodiments, the beverage straw includes a powder that is sealed within the straw and releasable by opening one or more seals at a first end or a second end of the straw, whereupon a flavored or otherwise enhanced beverage can be created by releasing the powder into a fluid (e.g., an unflavored or insufficiently flavored drink base) and mixing the powder into the fluid. In other embodiments, the beverage straw does not include the powder. The fluid may be provided in a beverage container having a lid coupled to an open end.
[0007] The present disclosure also generally relates to beverage accessories, and more particularly to a combination plug and skewer device configured for use with beverage straws. The disclosed devices can serve at least two distinct utilitarian purposes. First, the disclosed devices can be configured as plugs or stoppers that fit securely within a beverage straw to provide an airtight seal. Second, the disclosed devices can be configured as skewers or picks for holding and presenting garnishes such as fruit, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and other edible items. The combination plug and skewer can be removably coupled to the lid of the beverage container when used in combination.

A beverage straw system comprising: a tubular body comprising: a sidewall having an average wall thickness; a first end including a flared terminus; a second end; a flow restrictor having a proximal end, a distal end and a reduced diameter fluid passage extending from the proximal end to the distal end; and a chamber extending from the first end to the second end and having an average diameter greater than the reduced diameter fluid passage; a first seal configured to seal the first end; a second seal configured to seal the second end; and a powder within the chamber, wherein the powder can be poured from the chamber when at least one of the first seal and the second seal are removed from the first end or the second end.
2. The beverage straw system of claim 1, wherein the flared terminus provides increased first end seal area compared to an end formed from only the sidewall.
3. The beverage straw system of any one of claims 1-2, wherein the second end includes the flow restrictor proximal end and provides an increased second end seal area compared to an end formed from only the sidewall.
4. The beverage straw system of any one of claims 1-3, wherein the chamber has a constant inner diameter from the flow restrictor distal end to the flared terminus.
5. The beverage straw system of any one of claims 1-4, wherein the first seal or the second seal comprises a foil layer.
6. The beverage straw system of any one of claims 1-5, wherein the first seal or the second seal comprises a plastic film or coated paper.

A method for flavoring or otherwise enhancing a beverage comprising: providing a beverage straw comprising: a tubular body comprising: a first end including a flared terminus; a second end; a flow restrictor having a proximal end and a distal end and a reduced diameter fluid passage extending from the proximal end to the distal end; and a chamber extending from the first end to the second end; a first seal configured to seal the first end; a second seal configured to seal the second end; and a powder positioned within the chamber; providing the beverage; removing at least one of the first or second seals to provide an opened end; pouring the powder through the opened end into the beverage; andmixing the beverage to dissolve the powder into the beverage.
25. The method of claim 24, further comprising applying a suctioning force to the second end and the flow restrictor to remove the mixed beverage from the container.
26. The method of any one of claims 24-25, further comprising serving the beverage to a consumer.
27. The method of any one of claims 24-26, wherein the beverage is unflavored or insufficiently flavored and the powder comprises a flavorant.
28. A kit for flavoring or otherwise enhancing and then consuming a beverage comprising: a beverage straw container for containing at least one beverage straw; and at least one beverage straw comprising: a tubular body comprising: a first end including a flared terminus; a second end; a flow restrictor having a proximal end and a distal end and a reduced diameter fluid passage extending from the proximal end to the distal end; and a chamber extending from the first end to the second end; a first seal configured to seal the first end; a second seal configured to seal the second end; and a powder positioned within the chamber.
29. The kit of claim 28, further comprising a fluid contained within a fluid container.
30. The kit of claim 29, wherein the fluid comprises an alcoholic beverage within an openable fluid container.
31. The kit of claim 29, wherein the fluid comprises a low-alcohol beverage within an openable fluid container.
32. The kit of claim 29, wherein the fluid comprises a non-alcoholic beverage within an openable fluid container.
33. The kit of any one of claims 28-32, wherein the first seal and the second seal comprise at least one of a foil, plastic film or coated paper.
34. The kit of any one of claims 28-33, wherein the powder comprises a flavorant.
35. The kit of any one of claims 28-34, wherein the powder comprises at least one of a vitamin, supplement, fragrance, colorant or electrolyte.
36. The kit of any one of claims 28-35, wherein the powder further comprises a sweetening agent.
37. The kit of claim 36, wherein the sweetening agent comprises stevia.
38. The kit of claim 36, wherein the sweetening agent comprises sugar.
39. A combination plug and skewer comprising: a plug portion sized to fit at least partially within a tubular beverage straw having a diameter of 4-10 millimeters and a skewer portion coupled to the plug portion, wherein the skewer portion comprises an elongate element extending between a first end and a second end, the elongate element sized to fit within a beverage straw and configured to skewer garnishes.
40. The combination plug and skewer of claim 39, wherein the plug portion comprises a flange and a body, and wherein the body is sized to fit securely within a beverage straw having a circular cross section.
41. The combination plug and skewer of claim 40, wherein the flange defines a length of approximately 1 to 2 centimeters.
42. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 40-41, wherein the body defines a length of approximately 1 to 2 centimeters.
43. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-42, wherein the plug portion and the skewer portion are integrally coupled.
44. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-43, wherein the plug portion and the skewer portion are removably coupled.
45. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-44, wherein a combined length of the plug portion and the skewer portion is approximately 6 to 10 centimeters.
46. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-45, wherein a combined length of the plug portion and the skewer portion is approximately 7 to 9 centimeters.
47. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-46, wherein a combined length of the plug portion and the skewer portion is approximately 7.6 centimeters.
48. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-47, wherein a combined length of the plug portion and the skewer portion is approximately 8.8 centimeters.

59. The combination plug and skewer of claim 58, wherein the wedge comprises one or more projections coupled to the first end of the skewer portion.
60. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 58-59, wherein the wedge comprises a flange coupled to the plug portion.

The combination plug and skewer of claim 58, wherein the wedge comprises: a flange defining a first surface opposite a second surface, wherein the plug portion is coupled to the first surface; and one or more projections extending outward from the second surface, wherein the one or more projections are coupled to the first end of the skewer portion.
62. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-61, further comprising a tab coupled to the plug portion, wherein the tab extends outward from the plug portion in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis defined between the first end and the second end of the skewer portion.
63. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-62, further comprising a tab coupled to the plug portion, wherein the tab extends outward from the plug portion in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis defined between the first end and the second end of the skewer portion.
64. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 62-63, wherein the tab comprises a first side and a second side opposite the first side, and wherein the tab comprises a logo on at least one of the first side and the second side.
65. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 62-64, wherein the tab extends between a flat end and a rounded end.
66. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 62-65, wherein the flat end is coupled to the plug portion and the rounded end defines an outermost edge of the tab.
67. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 62-66, wherein the tab comprises at least one element indicative of a logo, a name, or a symbol.
68. The combination plug and skewer of any one of claims 39-67, wherein the plug portion and the skewer portion are each made from at least one of a polymer material, a metal material, a paper material, a fiber-based material, a glass material, a plant-based material, a natural material, a silicone material, an edible material, and combinations thereof.
69. A sealed straw comprising: at least one beverage straw comprising a tubular body, the tubular body comprising: a first end including a flared terminus; and a second end;a plug portion sized to fit securely at least partially within an end of the beverage straw; a wedge coupled to the plug portion; and a skewer portion coupled to the wedge, wherein the skewer portion comprises an elongate element extending between a first end and a second end, the elongate element sized to fit within the beverage straw and configured to skewer garnishes.
70. The sealed straw of claim 69, further comprising the subject matter of any one of claims 39-68.
71. The sealed straw of claim 69, wherein: the at least one beverage straw further comprises: a flow restrictor having a proximal end and a distal end and a reduced diameter fluid passage extending from the proximal end to the distal end; and a chamber extending from the first end to the second end; and the plug portion further comprises: a first flange and a body coupled to the first flange; a tab extending outward from the first flange; and a wedge comprising a second flange and one or more projections, wherein the second flange is coupled to the body of the plug portion.
72. The combination plug and skewer of claim 71, further comprising the subject matter of any one of claims 39-69.
73. A method comprising: providing a beverage straw comprising: a tubular body comprising: a first end including a flared terminus, a second end, a flow restrictor having a proximal end and a distal end and a reduced diameter fluid passage extending from the proximal end to the distal end, and a chamber extending from the first end to the second end; a first seal configured to seal the first end;a second seal configured to seal the second end; and a powder positioned within the chamber; providing the beverage; removing at least one of the first or second seals to provide an opened end; pouring the powder through the opened end into the beverage; mixing the beverage to dissolve the powder into the beverage; and receiving a garnish along a skewer portion of a combination plug and skewer, the combination plug and skewer comprising: a plug portion sized to fit securely at least partially within the tubular body; and a skewer portion coupled to the plug portion, wherein the skewer portion comprises an elongate element extending between a first end and a second end, the elongate element sized to fit within the tubular body and configured to skewer garnishes.
74. The method of any of claims 73 further comprising coupling the combination plug and skewer to the beverage straw.
75. The method of any of claims 73-74, further comprising coupling the combination plug and skewer to the beverage.
76. The method of any of claims 73-75, wherein the plug portion forms the first or second seal.
