Description

A COSMETIC COMPOSITION AND A METHOD FOR MINIMIZING SKIN BLEMISHESField of the invention

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of cosmetic and / or dermatological compositions. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to novel cosmetic and / or dermatological compositions and methods for reducing skin imperfections. Background

[0002] The cosmetic industry is constantly searching for innovative solutions to improve skin quality and address common skin concerns, such as uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and skin imperfections. One of the most common skin issues that individuals face is skin yellowness and dullness, which can be caused by a variety of factors, including sun damage, aging, and genetics. Skin yellowness can be particularly problematic for individuals with darker skin tones, as it can lead to a dull and lackluster complexion. Additionally, skin imperfections such as blemishes, acne scars, and age spots can also impact an individual's confidence and self-esteem.

[0003] Generally, to correct the skin yellowness, common practice was to apply small amounts of blue or violet dyes to boost the visual impression of whiteness. These dyes absorb light in the green-yellow region of the spectrum, thereby shifting the shade of the yellowish skin tone towards blue, the human eye perceives an increase of whiteness. But, since at the overall reflected light was reduced, the perceived lightness would decrease at the same time. Optical brighteners could absorb invisible UV light and re-emit visible light with its fluorescence property. Unlike dyes, optical brighteners offset the yellowish cast and at the same time improve lightness because their bluing effect is not based on subtracting yellow-green light, but rather on adding blue light.

[0004] US9545371B2 discloses an optically-activated system comprising fluorescent compound including natural or synthetic sorts in a very wide range.

[0005] CN 113677367A, CN 113747875 A and CN 113692288 A all involve technologies for converting ultraviolet light into visible light using UV wavelength conversion substances, wherein zinc oxide phosphor, magnesium titanate phosphor, phycocyanin, phycoerythrocyanin, phycoerythrin, etc. are listed as UV wavelength conversion substances.

[0006] However, the long-term use of chemicals such as zinc oxide confronts possible safety issue. The development of safer and more effective skin care approaches is still on demand strongly.Summary of the invention

[0007] In view of the above, the present inventors have developed a novel cosmetic composition comprising cyan light emitting Eysenhardtia polystachya (EP) extract to decrease skin yellowness and lighten the skin, while also reducing the appearance of skin imperfections. This technology provides a unique approach to skin care that is both effective and safe.

[0079] Without wishing to be bound by any particular theory, it is believed that if the content of EP extract is too low, sufficient lightening effect may not be achieved and the visual appearance of skin blemishes may not be sufficiently reduced, while if the content is too high, there may be safety concerns. Therefore, the Eysenhardtia polystachya extract preferably has a content from about 0.01%to about 10%by weight, more preferably from about 0.1%to about 2%by weight.

[0081] In some embodiments, the cosmetic composition has a weight ratio between the Eysenhardtia polystachya extract and the fluorescence enhancer from about 5000: 1 to about 1: 100.

[0082] Without wishing to be bound by any particular theory, it is believed that if the amount of the fluorescence enhancer relative to the EP extract is too small, a sufficient fluorescence enhancement effect cannot be achieved, while if it is too large, no additional enhancement effect will be produced, which is not economically preferable. Therefore, the cosmetic composition preferably has a weight ratio between the Eysenhardtia polystachya extract and the fluorescence enhancer from about 500: 1 to about 1: 10, and more preferably from about 50: 1 to about 1: 1.

[0134] According to yet another aspect, the present disclosure provides a cosmetic method for reducing the visual perception of skin imperfection selected from the group consisting of yellowness, dullness, uneven skin tone, dark under eye circles, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores and cellulite, comprising the topical application to the skin of the composition according to the present disclosure.

[0135] The present invention is not limited to the embodiments, but can be modified by those skilled in the art within the scope of the claims attached. The present invention also encompasses, in its technical scope, any embodiment derived by combining technical means disclosed in differing embodiments.

[0136] Examples

[0137] The examples that follow are given as non-limiting illustrations of the present invention.

[0138] Main raw materials used, trade names, INCI name and suppliers thereof are listed in Table 1.

[0139] Example 1 Absorption and Emission properties of Eysenhardtiapolystachya extract

[0140] For the 0.1wt%aqueous solution of the Eysenhardtia polystachya (EP) extract listed in Table 1, the absorption and fluorescence spectra were recorded by Tecan microplate reader A-5082 with excitation at 370nm in 6-well plate.

[0141] As shown in Figure 1, it can be seen that the EP extract absorbs light in the UV region of the electromagnetic spectrum, from about 230nm to 400nm, and re-emits light in the visible region between about 400nm and about 630nm, with a peak at about 466nm.

[0142] Example 2 Test of combinations comprising EP extract on the fluorescence intensity

[0143] According to the composition in Table 2, the EP extract and various fluorescence enhancers were mixed in a 2 mL aqueous solution at concentrations of 0.5%and 0.1%, respectively. The fluorescence intensity of each solution at 466nm was determined by Tecan microplate reader A-5082 with excitation at 370nm in 6-well plate.

[0144] The fluorescence intensity of the EP extract alone was set as 1, and the fluorescence enhancing performance of each combination was evaluated by dividing the fluorescence intensity measured by the fluorescence intensity of the EP extract alone. The results were shown in Table 2.

[0145] Table 2. Fluorescence intensity of combinations of EP extract and enhancer

[0146] It can be seen that by combining with specific fluorescence enhancers, the fluorescence intensity of EP extract was enhanced, among which the fluorescence intensity of combinations comprising lysine, matrine, arginine, histidine or poly-lysine was enhanced by more than 10 times, showing an excellent fluorescence enhancing performance.

[0147] Comparative Example 1 Test of combinations comprising EP extract on the fluorescence intensity

[0148] The fluorescence enhancing performance was evaluated in the same manner as in Example 2 except that the fluorescence enhancer was replaced with the substance shown in Table 3.

[0149] Table 3. Fluorescence intensity of combinations of EP extract and other substance

[0150] It can be seen that when the fluorescence enhancer was replaced by other substances, the fluorescence intensity of the combinations were reduced to a certain extent rather than being enhanced.

[0151] Example 3 Test of combinations comprising EP extract on quantum

[0152] For each material listed in Table 4, the efficiency of fluorescence is measured by the quantum yieldΦ:

[0153] It is determined by the relative rates of fluorescence emission and the competing processes. The quantum yield of the fluorophore was determined by Edinburgh FLS1000.

[0154] Table 4. Comparison of EP extract and commercially available skin lightening product

[0155] As shown in Table 4, it can be seen that the quantum yield of the EP extract is significantly higher than that of the commercially available skin lightening product IBR-dragon. In addition, the combined use with lysine or polylysine can greatly improve the quantum yield of the EP extract, and the quantum yield was increased from 53.23%to 70.19%and 76.04%, respectively, which is consistent with the fluorescence intensity results in Example 2.

[0156] Example 4 Test of combinations comprising EP extracts and fluorescence enhancers in different ratios on the fluorescence enhancing performance

[0157] The fluorescence enhancing performance was evaluated in the same manner as in Example 2 except that the compositions in Table 5 were used.

[0158] Table 5. Fluorescence intensity of combinations of EP extract and enhancer in different ratios

[0159] As shown in Table 5, it can be seen that, by using a fluorescence enhancer in the composition of the present disclosure, a fluorescence enhancing effect can be obtained even at an extremely low ratio of 1 / 5000 relative to the EP extract.

[0160] Comparative Example 2 Test of combinations comprising commercially available skin lightening product on the fluorescence intensity

[0161] The fluorescence enhancing performance was evaluated in the same manner as in Example 2 except that the EP extract was replaced with the commercially available skin lightening product IBR-dragon.

[0162] Table 6. Fluorescence intensity of IBR dragon and enhancer

[0163] As shown in Table 6, the use in combination with a fluorescence enhancer cannot enhance the fluorescence of the commercially available skin lightening product IBR-dragon.

[0164] The combination of EP extract with at least one fluorescence enhancer according to the present disclosure, can be made into a formulation with common carriers, auxiliaries, or excipients in a conventional preparation process. Exemplary formulations and preparation processes thereof are provided below. All the ingredients used in the formulations are well known in the art and commercially available.

[0165] Example 5 Test of combinations comprising EP extract on the fluorescence intensity at different pH.

[0166] The fluorescence enhancing performance was evaluated in the same manner as in Example 2 except that the pH of the EP extract solution (0.5 wt%) was adjusted to the same level by using the composition in Table 7.

[0167] As shown in Table 7, the polylysine group has better fluorescence enhancing performance than Caustic soda group even at the same pH.

[0168] Table 7. Fluorescence enhancing performance at different pH
