[0016] A cassette arrester includes a cam plate having a head, a body, and a tapered section. A housing is securely mounted on a panel and includes a body with a pair of arms extending perpendicularly from its rear face. A receiver for receiving the body, is provided with a cavity to receive the tapered section of the cam plate.
[0017] A bolt holder is also mounted on the panel and holds a pair of guide bolts. The bolt holder is an elongated component with apertures that hold the guide bolts, which help constrain the cam plate’s movement to a linear path. These guide bolts pass through bolt receivers located on extensions of the cam plate head, and a pair of resilient coils are arranged around the guide bolts between the bolt holder and the cam plate head. The resilient coils apply resistance against the cam plate head to maintain its position.
[0018] The cassette arrester may be operated using a key, which has a head and a shaft mounted off-center from the head. A key insert is provided on the housing to allow the key head to reach the cam opening. The key’s head is circular, and its off-center shaft produces a non-circular or oval rotation, which is necessary to shift the cam plate from the locked to the unlocked position. The cam plate head is positioned at the top and includes side extensions that extend beyond the body’s width, each with a bolt receiver. The cam plate body includes a cam opening designed with a profile that enables linear movement when actuated by the key. The tapered section is located at the bottom of the cam plate and narrows gradually. In the locked state, the cam plate’s tapered section fits snugly in the receiver cavity, while in the unlocked state, it disengages. For proper guidance, guide rails or a guide passage may be included on the cam plate’s external surface.
[0019] Inside the housing, the arm surfaces and body define a passage that accommodates the cam plate body for linear travel. The housing prevents the cam plate head from passing through this passage. Additional guide rails or a passage may also be included inside the housing for alignment. The receiver’s cavity closely fits the tapered cam plate section to secure the locked state.
[0020] The cassette arrester is designed to securely lock a cassette in a dock or charging station, preventing unintended movement that could affect energy transfer or cause damage. This configuration ensures high reliability and safety for electrical energy storage device interchange applications.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF FIGURES

[0039] Embodiments herein disclose a cassette arrestor as illustrated in FIGs. 1-9. The cassette arrester 100 comprises a housing 110, a cam plate 120, a receiver 130, a plurality of guide bolts 140, a bolt holder 150, and resilient coils 160. These components work together tosecurely lock a cassette in place within a dock of an electrical energy storage device charging and interchange station and / or a vehicle, preventing movement that could impede energy transfer or cause damage.
[0040] The cam plate 120 (as shown in FIG. 3) has a head 122, a body 124, and a tapered section 128. The head 122 is located at the operational top of the cam plate 120 and features extensions on either side that extend beyond the width of the body 124. Each extension is provided with a bolt receiver 123. The body 124 is provided with a cam opening 126. The cam opening 126 can be an aperture or cavity designed with a specific cam profile (i.e., the opening within the cam plate). The cam profile enables the cam plate 120 to move linearly when operated with a key 180. A tapered section 128 is positioned at the operational bottom of the cam plate 120 and is configured to have a tapered profile; i.e., the cam plate 120 has a gradually narrowing profile along its length. In an embodiment herein, a plurality of guide rails or a guide passage may be provided on the external surface of the body 124 for guidance. In alternative embodiments, the cam plate 120 may be constructed from various materials (such as, but not limited to, metal alloys high-strength polymers, and so on), to enhance durability and reduce weight. Additionally, the cam opening 126 could be designed with different profiles to accommodate various key types or to increase security.
[0041] A housing 110 (as illustrated in FIG. 4) is securely mounted on a panel 170 using fasteners. The housing 110 has a body 114 and a pair of arms 116 extending substantially perpendicular from the rear face of the body 114. The inner surface of the arm 116 and the body 114 integrally define a passage 118. The passage 118 is configured to accommodate the body 124 of the cam plate 120 allowing for linear movement within the passage. The housing 110 is further configured to restrict the head 122 of the cam plate 122 from passing through the passage 118. Additionally, the housing 100 features a key insert 112, wherein the key insert 112 is an aperture or cavity that allows a key head 182 to pass through it and access the cam opening 126 of the cam plate 120. In an embodiment herein, a plurality of guide rails or a guide passage may be provided on the internal surface of the body 114 for guidance. In alternative embodiments, the housing 110 could be made from different materials (such as, but not limited to, reinforced plastics, composite materials, and so on) to reduce weight while maintaining structural integrity. The shape and size of the key insert 112 could also be varied to accommodate different key designs or to enhance security features.
[0042] In some embodiments, the inner surfaces of the passage 118 may be coated with low-friction materials or incorporate lubrication channels to further enhance the movement of the cam plate 120.
[0043] In some embodiments, the housing 110 may incorporate additional elements (such as, but not limited to, seals, gaskets, and so on) to protect internal components from environmental factors (for example, dust, moisture, debris, and so on). These protective features can be integrated into the design of the body 114 or added as separate components during assembly.
[0044] The housing 110 may also be designed with considerations for ease of maintenance and servicing. This could include removable panels or access points that allow for inspection and replacement of internal components without the need for complete disassembly of the arrester.
[0045] A receiver 130 (as illustrated in FIG. 5) is provided with a cavity 132 that complements the tapered section 128 of the cam plate 120. In a lock condition, the tapered profile of the tapered section 128 fits snugly within the cavity 132. In an unlock condition, the tapered section is removed from the cavity 132.
[0046] The receiver 130 can be constructed from a durable material, (such as, but not limited to, hardened steel, a high-strength alloy, and so on) to withstand repeated locking and unlocking cycles without wear or deformation. The receiver 130 may be securely mounted on the panel 170 or integrated into the structure of the charging station or vehicle dock, depending on the specific implementation of the cassette arrester.
[0047] The cavity 132 of the receiver 130 facilitates the locking mechanism. The cavity 132 is precision-machined to match the profile of the tapered section 128 of the cam plate 120. This complementary design ensures a secure lock when the tapered section 128 is fully inserted into the cavity 132. The cavity 132 may have a slightly conical or tapered shape itself, gradually narrowing from its opening to its base. This design can help guide the tapered section 128 into place and provide a more secure fit.
[0048] The dimensions and shape of the cavity 132 are critical to the proper functioning of the arrester. The cavity 132 must be deep enough to accommodate the full length of the tapered section 128 when the cam plate 120 is in the locked position. At the same time, it should not be so deep as to prevent easy disengagement when the cam plate 120 is moved to the unlocked position. The width of the cavity 132 at its opening should be slightly larger than thewidest part of the tapered section 128 to allow for smooth insertion and removal of the cam plate 120.
[0049] In alternative embodiments, the cavity 132 may incorporate additional features to enhance the locking mechanism. For example, the cavity 132 may include grooves or ridges that correspond to similar features on the tapered section 128 of the cam plate 120. These additional features can provide extra resistance against unintended movement or vibration when the arrester is in the locked position. Another variation could involve a slightly elastomeric lining within the cavity 132, which can provide a tighter grip on the tapered section 128 and potentially reduce wear over time.
[0050] The receiver 130 could be designed with various cavity shapes or sizes in alternative embodiments to accommodate different tapered section profiles or to enhance the locking mechanism's strength.
[0051] A bolt holder 150 is securely mounted on the panel 170. In an embodiment herein, the bolt holder 150 is a solid, elongated object, often rectangular and with a pair of apertures to securely accommodate a guide bolt 140 within each aperture. The guide bolts 140 are designed to be inserted through the bolt receiver 123, allowing the cam plate 120 to slide linearly along the guide bolts 140. The guide bolts 140 serve as guides, ensuring that the movement of the cam plate 120 remains linear and constrained. In alternative embodiments, the guide bolts 140 may be replaced with other guiding mechanisms (such as, but not limited to, rails, grooves, and so on) to achieve the same linear movement control.
[0052] A pair of resilient coils 160 is configured around the guide bolts 140 between the bolt holder 150 and the head 122 of the cam plate 120. The resilient coil 160 applies a resistance force on the head 122. This force applied to the head 122 of the cam plate 120 can keep the cam plate 120 in the locked condition. In an embodiment herein, the bolt holder 150 could be integrated directly into the panel 170. In an embodiment herein, the bolt holder 150 could be designed with adjustable positioning to accommodate different cassette sizes or configurations. The resilient coils 160 could be made from various materials or have different spring rates in alternative embodiments to adjust the locking force or to accommodate different operational environments. In an embodiment herein, the resilient coils 160 may be replaced with other types of spring mechanisms to provide the necessary resistance force. In an embodiment herein, the resilient coils 160 may be replaced with hydraulic systems to providethe necessary resistance force. In an embodiment herein, the resilient coils 160 may be replaced with pneumatic systems to provide the necessary resistance force.
[0053] A key 180 (as illustrated in FIGs. 7A,7B, and 7C) comprises a head 182 and a shaft 184. The head 182 of the key 180 can be substantially circular, although its shape can vary based on specific requirements in alternative embodiments. The shaft is securely mounted to the head 182 at an offset from the centre. The offset mounting of the shaft 184 to the head 182 creates a non-circular rotation of the head. This pattern can be used for displacing the cam plate 120 from the locked position to the unlocked position. In alternative embodiments, the key 180 could be designed with different head shapes or shaft configurations to enhance security or to accommodate various locking mechanism designs.
[0054] The operation of the cassette arrester 100 involves the interaction of these components. Initially, the cam plate 120 is in a locked position (as shown in FIG. 8), with the tapered section 128 of the cam plate 120 snugly fit within the cavity 132 of the receiver 130. The head 122 of the cam plate 120 is held in place by the resilient coils 170, wherein the resilient coils 170 apply a resisting force to keep the head 122 of the cam plate 120 locked. The key 180 is not inserted, and the cam plate cannot be moved.
[0055] During the unlocking condition (as shown in FIG. 9), the operator inserts the key 180 into the key insert 112 of the housing 110 to access the cam plate 120. The key 180 is rotated, and the key's offset-mounted shaft 184 creates a non-circular rotation pattern. This rotation transfers motion to the cam plate 120 through the cam opening 126. As the key is rotated, the cam plate moves linearly along the guide bolts 140, overcoming the resistance from the resilient coils 170. The movement of the cam plate 120 causes the tapered section 128 to disengage from the cavity 132 of the receiver 130, unlocking the mechanism. With the tapered section 128 disengaged, the operator can now perform the desired action, such as opening a door or releasing a latch.
[0056] On the operator rotating the key 180 further or in the opposite direction, the cam plate 120 slides back into the locked position. The tapered section of the cam plate 120 reengages with the cavity 132 of the receiver 130, securing the mechanism. The head 122 of the cam plate 120 is again held in place by the resilient coils 170, maintaining the locked position until the next unlocking action. The key 180 can now be retracted back from the arrester 100.
[0057] The cassette arrester 100 design provides a secure locking mechanism for the cassette within a dock of an electrical energy storage device charging and interchange stationand / or a vehicle, preventing any movement that could impede energy transfer or cause damage. By ensuring the stability of the cassette during operation, embodiments herein maximise the reliability and safety of electrical energy storage device interchange technology, thereby enhancing its appeal as a viable option for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
[0058] The embodiments described herein above have several technical advantages including, but not limited to, the realization of a cassette arrester,- that ensures secure retention of a cassettes within a dock during both charging and operational movement, enhancing safety and stability;- that enables quick and reliable locking and unlocking operations, thereby supporting efficient interchange of electrical energy storage devices;- that minimizes the risk of damage to electrical and fluid connectors by preventing unintended cassette movement;- that offers consistent performance over repeated locking cycles, contributing to longterm durability and operational reliability;- that maintains linear and constrained motion of the locking mechanism, reducing mechanical wear and ensuring precise alignment;- that functions effectively under varying orientations of cassette mounting, such as horizontal, vertical, or inclined configurations;- that accommodates manufacturing variations and tolerances through its self-aligning locking interface;- that facilitates user-friendly manual operation without requiring complex tools or automated systems;- that maintains locking pressure through resilient biasing elements, ensuring secure engagement even in vibrational or mobile environments; and- that can be constructed using a range of robust and wear-resistant materials, allowing adaptation to different performance and cost requirements.
