A system and method for detecting and storing file content access information within a file system. In one embodiment, the system may include a storage device configured to store a plurality of files and a file system configured to manage access to the storage device. The file system may be configured to detect an operation to access content of a first file stored on the storage device and, subsequent to detecting the operation, store a record of the operation associated with the first file, where the record includes a signature corresponding to the first file.

Systems and methods for managing electronic data are disclosed. Various data management operations can be performed based on a metabase formed from metadata. Such metadata can be identified from an index of data interactions generated by a journaling module, and obtained from their associated data objects stored in one or more storage devices. In various embodiments, such processing of the index and storing of the metadata can facilitate, for example, enhanced data management operations, enhanced data identification operations, enhanced storage operations, data classification for organizing and storing the metadata, cataloging of metadata for the stored metadata, and/or user interfaces for managing data. In various embodiments, the metabase can be configured in different ways. For example, the metabase can be stored separately from the data objects so as to allow obtaining of information about the data objects without accessing the data objects or a data structure used by a file system.

Embodiments of the invention include systems and methods for providing block-level verification of replicated file systems. Embodiments operate in context of data storage environments, which may typically have multiple file systems, snapshots of file systems, and replicas of file systems. In one illustrative scenario, a replica is created of a file system having multiple associated snapshots, and a user desires to verify the accuracy of the replica. A signature is created for each of the source active file system and the target replica file system, so that each signature includes records of both block-level signatures and block-level allocations. The signatures are compared to discover any differences. The differences may then be reconciled, where possible, to determine whether the differences indicate a corrupt or otherwise invalid replica.

Systems and methods for providing privacy of file synchronization with sharing functionality are presented. In embodiments, a file synchronization system comprises one or more folders associated with one or more non-shared encryption keys, which may be a managed key shared across an organization, and/or a personal key that is not shared or has limited third-party sharing. The one or more non-shared encryption keys are not known to the data storage service. The file synchronization system may also contain one or more folders associated with a shared encryption key that is shared with the data storage service, and in embodiments, with a set of users of the service. The system may include a mapping correlating folders to encryption type so items in each folder can be handled appropriately. The system may have additional folders, such as one or more public folders that may be available with limited or no restrictions.

A financial-service system that manages content objects includes a chronicles platform with a chronicle associated with a loan request. A content manager determines a set of content objects to be associated with the chronicle and generates a bucket for each content object of the set of content objects. Each bucket is associated with a name and is configured to receive an associated content object. The chronicle is populated with the generated buckets. An interface that detects a user action and that thereafter receives or generates a content object, which is detected by the content manager and associated with a bucket. The content manager causes the bucket to receive the content object and presents representations of the buckets to a user. Representations of one or more buckets that have received a content object differ from representations of one or more other buckets that have not received a content object.

The invention provides a technique for managing multiple contextual views of source code files. In a file system, different tasks demand that source code files be grouped in different hierarchical directories. When some or all of this manipulation is of the physical files themselves, the directories can become confused, and it may be difficult for the next user to access needed source code files. In the technique of the invention, the physical location of the files is independent of all contextual views, and is maintained in a separate viewable hierarchy. All items in contextual view hierarchies contain only references to the physical location of the source code files, and so modifications of those items, such as delete, move and copy, only alter the references themselves. A separate set of operations can be used for explicitly maintaining or modifying the physical source code files.

A switched file system, also termed a file switch, is logically positioned between client computers and file servers in a computer network. The file switch distributes user files among multiple file servers using aggregated file, transaction and directory mechanisms. The file switch distributes and aggregates the client data files in accordance with a predetermined set of aggregation rules. Each rule can be modified independently of the other rules. Different aggregation rules can be used for different types of files, thereby adapting the characteristics of the switched file system to the intended use and to the expected or historical access patterns for different data files.

Some content players use manifest files to obtain and play video content. The manifest files include metadata information for obtaining video chunks that together constitute a full video, and can be used by content players to obtain the chunks, stitch them together, and render the video as a stream. Described herein are techniques for dynamically generating manifest files. A request for a manifest file is received, such as from a video player. Manifest file contents are retrieved, such as from an original manifest file. A manifest file to be used by a video player to fetch video chunks is then dynamically generated and returned.

A method includes detecting a first user operation corresponding to a first item in a directory structure. The directory structure represents a hierarchical arrangement of a plurality of items, including the first item, in a memory. The first user operation indicates a start of an item action with the first item. The method also includes, in response to detecting a second user operation corresponding to a second item in the directory structure, creating a virtual target in the second item in the directory structure. The virtual target is a possible location for completion of the item action with the first item. The method further includes, in response to a third user operation indicating completion of the item action with the first item in the virtual target, completing the item action with the first item in the virtual target.

Systems and methods for transactional processing within a clustered file system wherein user defined transactions operate on data segments of the file system data. The users are provided within an interface for using a transactional mechanism, namely services for opening, writing and rolling-back transactions. A distributed shared memory technology is utilized to facilitate efficient and coherent cache management within the clustered file system based on the granularity of data segments (rather than files).

A computer file management system allowing at least one of one file (F1) and/or one directory (D3) to belong to two or more directories (D1, D2). The file management system is characterized in that a file or directory specified by an operator of the computer or a program operating on the computer as an object to be operated has all the directories present on the directory path as parent directories. This system is a novel file management system capable of classifying/organizing files and directories more easily and naturally than in the conventional system without requiring additional operation.

A garbage collection (GC) process within a deduplication backup network comprising a GC component identifying metadata stored in file system (FS) segments, storing the metadata in a metadata container locally on the server as well as on cloud storage, and reading the locally stored metadata container through the GC process to obtain metadata of the FS containers and determine live data regions of the FS containers, wherein the metadata contains fingerprints of all segments of the file system containers; and a copy forward component forwarding the live data regions to new containers written both locally on the server and on the cloud storage, writing live portions of the metadata container to a new metadata container written both locally on the server and on the cloud storage, and deleting dead compression regions from the cloud storage and deleting the original metadata container from local storage and the cloud storage.
