Electrode notching device
[0001] Cross-citation with related application(s)
[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2024-0117666, filed August 30, 2024, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
[0003] The present invention relates to an electrode notching device, and more specifically, to an electrode notching device used in an electrode notching process during a secondary battery manufacturing process, wherein the electrode notching device performs the notching process while the electrode sheet is adsorbed to a lower mold, thereby improving the notching quality.
[0004] In modern society, the widespread use of portable devices like cell phones, laptops, camcorders, and digital cameras, as well as energy storage systems (ESS), has led to active development of related technologies. Furthermore, rechargeable secondary batteries are increasingly being used as power sources for electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (P-HEVs) to address air pollution issues caused by conventional gasoline-powered vehicles, further fueling the growing need for secondary battery development.
[0005] These lithium secondary batteries primarily use lithium oxide and carbon materials as the positive and negative electrode active materials, respectively. Lithium secondary batteries comprise an electrode assembly comprising positive and negative plates coated with the positive and negative electrode active materials, respectively, with a separator interposed between them, and an outer case, i.e., a battery case, that seals and encloses the electrode assembly together with an electrolyte.
[0006] These secondary batteries can be manufactured by applying an electrode mixture containing an electrode active material, a conductive agent, a binder, etc., on an electrode current collector, drying the mixture to manufacture an electrode, laminating the manufactured electrode with a separator, and then embedding and sealing the electrode in a battery case together with an electrolyte.
[0007] At this time, the electrode can be manufactured by notching the electrode sheet manufactured by applying an electrode active material on an electrode current collector formed in the shape of a long sheet, and then cutting it to a desired length.
[0008] Fig. 1 illustrates an electrode notching device (10) according to the prior art, and Fig. 2 illustrates a perspective view of a lower die (20) of the electrode notching device of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 illustrates a front view of a lower die (20) of the electrode notching device of Fig. 1.
[0009] The electrode notching device (10) of Fig. 1 includes a lower die (20) on which an electrode sheet (1) is placed and passed, and an upper die (30) that moves downward toward the electrode sheet (1) placed on the lower die (20) to notch the electrode sheet (1). More specifically, the electrode sheet (1) is placed on the lower plate (22) of the lower die (20), and the electrode sheet (1) is fixed by being pressed by the upper plate (31) of the upper die (30), and a positive mold (not shown) of the upper die (30) is engaged with a negative mold (21) of the lower die (20), so that a notching process is regularly performed on the electrode sheet (1). Accordingly, an electrode tab shape is processed on the electrode sheet (1) at a predetermined interval.
[0010] Meanwhile, according to this conventional technology, when the electrode sheet (1) is placed on the lower plate (22) as illustrated in FIG. 3, if the electrode sheet (1) is pressed by the upper plate (31) in a state where the electrode sheet (1) is not unintentionally placed flat and a notching process is performed, there is a concern that the electrode tab of the electrode sheet (1) may not be formed at a desired position or may not be formed with a normal shape or size. Therefore, a technology is needed to prevent concerns according to the conventional technology.
[0011] The present invention aims to provide an electrode notching device that improves the notching quality of an electrode.
[0012] However, the problems to be solved by the embodiments of the present invention are not limited to the problems described above and can be expanded in various ways within the scope of the technical ideas included in the present invention.

[0019] The plurality of adsorption holes arranged in the plurality of rows or the plurality of columns may have a sequentially decreasing suction force as they move inward from the plurality of adsorption holes arranged at the outermost edge toward the lower die.
[0020] A plurality of suction holes are additionally arranged across the whole area of the lower plate, and the suction force of the suction holes arranged on both sides of the edge of the lower plate may be greater than the suction force of each of the plurality of suction holes arranged in the remaining area of the lower plate.
[0021] The diameter of each of the plurality of adsorption holes arranged in the plurality of rows or the plurality of columns may be substantially the same.
[0022] The diameter of each of the plurality of adsorption holes arranged in the plurality of rows or the plurality of columns may be different for each of the plurality of rows or each of the plurality of columns.
[0023] The diameter of the plurality of adsorption holes arranged at the outermost end among the plurality of adsorption holes arranged in the plurality of rows or the plurality of columns may be the largest.

[0027] The above electrode notching device is a laser notching device, and may include a laser irradiation unit that irradiates a laser toward the electrode sheet to cut it as the notching part.
[0028] According to the present invention, the quality and efficiency of the electrode notching process can be improved, and the quality of the electrode produced accordingly can also be improved.

[0043] Hereinafter, various embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings so that those skilled in the art can easily implement the invention. The present invention may be implemented in various different forms and is not limited to the embodiments described herein.
[0044] In order to clearly explain the present invention, parts that are not related to the description are omitted, and the same reference numerals are used for identical or similar components throughout the specification.
[0045] Furthermore, the sizes and thicknesses of each component shown in the drawings are arbitrarily indicated for convenience of explanation, and thus the present invention is not necessarily limited to the illustrated components. In the drawings, the thicknesses are enlarged to clearly represent various layers and regions. Furthermore, in the drawings, the thicknesses of some layers and regions are exaggerated for convenience of explanation.
[0046] Furthermore, when we say that a layer, membrane, region, plate, or other part is "on" or "over" another part, this includes not only cases where it is "directly on" the other part, but also cases where there are other parts in between. Conversely, when we say that a part is "directly on" another part, it means that there are no other parts in between. Furthermore, when we say that a part is "on" or "over" a reference part, it means that it is located above or below the reference part, and does not necessarily mean that it is located "above" or "over" the direction opposite to gravity.
[0047] Additionally, throughout the specification, whenever a part is said to "include" a component, this does not mean that it excludes other components, but rather that it may include other components, unless otherwise specifically stated.
[0048] Additionally, throughout the specification, when we say "in plan", we mean when the target portion is viewed from above, and when we say "in cross section", we mean when the target portion is viewed from the side in a cross-section cut vertically.
[0049] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
[0050] Fig. 4 schematically illustrates a front view of an electrode notching device (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 5 is a reference drawing of Fig. 4, and illustrates a vertical cross-sectional view of a case where notching is performed on an electrode sheet (1). Fig. 6 is a reference drawing of Fig. 4, and illustrates a horizontal cross-sectional view of a case where notching is performed on an electrode sheet (1) placed on a lower plate (112) using an upper mold (123) of an upper die (120).
[0051] An electrode notching device (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention illustrates a punching or punching type notching device as an embodiment. It should be noted that the electrode notching device (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention, which will be described in more detail below, is not limited to a punching or punching type notching device, and can also be applied to a laser notching method. It should be noted that in Fig. 4, a punching or punching type notching device is described as an example.
[0052] First, referring to FIG. 4, the electrode notching device (100) includes a lower die (110), an upper die (120) positioned above the lower die (110), and a connecting portion (130) connecting the lower die (110) and the upper die (120).
[0053] The lower die (110) includes a main body (111) and a lower plate (112) placed on the main body (111), and the lower plate (112) may be provided with a negative lower mold (113). In addition, the lower die (110) includes a plurality of suction holes (200), and the plurality of suction holes (200) provided in the lower die (110) will be described in more detail later with reference to the drawings in FIG. 7 and below.
[0054] The upper die (120) includes a main body (121) and an upper plate (122) below the main body (121), and a raised upper mold (123) may be provided on the upper plate (122). The upper plate (122) is connected to the main body (121) below through an elevating member (124), and as the length of the elevating member (124) is adjusted, the upper plate (122) is raised and lowered in conjunction.
[0055] Additionally, the electrode notching device (100) may further include an electrode sheet supply unit (140) for supplying (e.g., unwinding) an electrode sheet (1) and an electrode recovery unit (150) for recovering an electrode sheet (1) or electrode plate (1', see FIG. 6) for which notching has been completed. The electrode recovery unit (150) may be one for unwinding an electrode sheet (1) or an electrode plate (1') placed on a protective film, but may also be a magazine for loading electrode plates (1'), and may be variously modified and changed to suit the environment in which the present invention is implemented. Additionally, the device may further include a guide member (160) for guiding the progress of the electrode sheet (1), and may further include a vision unit (170) for inspecting an electrode sheet (1) or electrode plate (1') for which notching has been completed. Additionally, the components indicated by these drawing numbers 140 to 170 may be integrated into the electrode notching device (100), but may also be provided separately and physically somewhat distant from the electrode notching device (100).
[0056] Referring to Fig. 5, the electrode sheet (1) passes between the lower die (110) and the upper die (120). At this time, the electrode sheet (1) is placed on and supported by the lower plate (112) of the lower die (110) and is pressed by the upper plate (122) of the upper die (120). Next, referring to Figs. 5 and 6, in this state, the notching process of the electrode sheet (1) is performed by a notching unit that performs notching. As shown in Fig. 5, in the punching-type notching device, the positive upper mold (123) of the upper die (120) moves to and engages with the negative lower mold (113) of the lower die (110), thereby performing the notching process on the electrode sheet (1), and the electrode sheet (1) is processed into a shape including the electrode tab (2). In this case, the positive upper mold (123) of the upper die (120) and the negative lower mold (113) of the lower die (110) become the notching portion. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and in the case of a laser notching device, a laser irradiation unit (not shown) that irradiates a laser may become the notching portion.
[0057] By cutting the electrode sheet (1) into units along the line (L) simultaneously with or subsequent to the above-described notching process, individual electrode plates (1') are formed.
[0058]
[0059] Hereinafter, various embodiments in which a plurality of adsorption holes (200) are arranged on the upper surface of the lower die (110) according to embodiments of the present invention will be described in more detail.
[0060] For reference, in the specification of the present invention, the direction of progression of the electrode sheet (1) is the same as the horizontal direction of the lower die (110), and the direction orthogonal to the direction of progression of the electrode sheet (1) is the same as the vertical direction of the lower die (110).
[0061]
[0062] A horizontal arrangement of multiple adsorption holes
[0063] Fig. 7 is a top view of the lower die (110) of Fig. 3. Fig. 8 is a reference drawing, which is an enlarged vertical cross-sectional view of the lower die (110) of Fig. 3.
[0064] Referring to FIGS. 7 and 8, the lower die (110) includes a plurality of adsorption holes (200) on the upper surface on which the electrode sheet (1) is placed. As in the embodiment of FIG. 4, when the lower die (110) has a lower plate (112) on the upper surface on which the electrode sheet (1) is placed, a plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be formed in the lower plate (112).
[0065] Referring to FIG. 7, a plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be provided along both edges (horizontal edges) of the lower plate (112) so as to adsorb both edges of the electrode sheet (1) placed on the lower plate (112) of the lower die (110). For example, the plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be arranged along the horizontal direction of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)).
[0066] In a case where a plurality of suction holes (200) having the same degree of suction force are provided across the entire area of the lower plate (112) (not shown), as shown in the present invention, when the plurality of suction holes (200) are provided to suction both edges of the electrode sheet (1), the effect of the electrode sheet (1) being pulled tautly at both edges occurs. Accordingly, the electrode sheet (1) can be spread out more evenly and flatly overall. That is, the plurality of suction holes (200) are provided at positions corresponding to both edges of the electrode sheet (1) so as to pull the electrode sheet (1) tautly at both edges.
[0067] In Fig. 7, a case is illustrated in which a plurality of suction holes (200) are provided in two rows on each of the two edges of the lower plate (112) (each edge in the horizontal direction of the lower die (110), for example). In Fig. 7, a first row of suction holes (211) is provided on each of the two edges of the lower plate (112), and a second row of suction holes (212) is arranged adjacent to (parallel to) the first row of suction holes (211), but at a position further inward of the lower plate (112).
[0068] In addition, a plurality of suction holes (200) may be provided except for the location where the lower mold (113) is located. However, as described above, the present invention is also applicable to the case of laser notching, and in an electrode notching device in which laser notching is performed, the lower mold (113) may not be provided on the upper surface of the lower die (110) (or the lower plate (112) of the lower die (110), and only a plurality of suction holes (200) may be provided.
[0069] Referring to Fig. 8, when the electrode sheet (1) is placed on the upper surface of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)), the electrode sheet (1) is sucked in the plurality of suction holes (200), so that the electrode sheet (1) can be flatly sucked on the lower plate (112). Even if the electrode sheet (1) is provided on the lower die (110) in an unintentionally partially bent or curved state (see Fig. 3), the electrode sheet (1) can be flatly spread on the lower plate (112) because the electrode sheet (1) is sucked in the plurality of suction holes (200). Since notching is performed in this state, stable notching quality can be ensured.
[0070] A plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be provided in two rows along each of the opposite edges of the electrode sheet (1), as exemplarily illustrated in FIG. 7. However, the present invention is not limited to the illustrated arrangement, and the plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be provided in one row or in multiple rows of three or more.
[0071] Or, in some cases, it may be provided across the entire front area of the lower plate (112). The case where a plurality of adsorption holes (200) are provided across the entire front area of the lower plate (112) will be described in more detail later in FIGS. 10 and 11.
[0072] Fig. 9 is a modified example of Fig. 8, showing a case where the suction levels of multiple suction holes (200) are different.
[0073] In the embodiment of Fig. 9, the suction force of the suction hole (211) of the first row is greater than the suction force of the suction hole (212) of the second row. To this end, the diameter (D) of the suction hole (211) of the first row E1 ) is the diameter (D) of the second row of adsorption holes (212). E2 ) may be larger. By making the suction force of the first row of suction holes (211) arranged at the outermost side the greatest, the electrode sheet (1) can be pulled more tightly at both edges. The notching process can be performed in a state where the electrode sheet (1) is spread out evenly and flatly as a whole. When a plurality of suction holes (200) are arranged in a plurality of rows in this way, the suction force and / or diameter may be the greatest in the plurality of suction holes arranged at the outermost side, and the suction force and / or diameter may sequentially decrease as one goes toward the inside of the lower die (110).
[0074] Figures 10 and 11 illustrate modified embodiments of Figures 8 and 9, respectively. In the embodiments of Figures 10 and 11, a plurality of suction holes (200) are provided across the entire area of the lower plate (112), and as described above in Figures 8 and 9, the edges of the electrode sheet (1) are pulled outward, so that the electrode sheet (1) has the effect of being stretched out, and the suction force of the suction holes (210) at both edges of the lower plate (112) is greater than the suction force of the suction holes (220) at the remaining area of the lower plate (112). To this end, the diameter (D) of the suction holes (210) at both edges E ) is the diameter (D) of the adsorption hole (220) of the remaining area C ) can be greater than.
[0075] Accordingly, the electrode sheet (1) was pulled outward from the suction holes (210) on both edges with greater suction force, and the electrode sheet (1) was brought into close contact with the lower plate (112) from the suction holes (220) in the remaining area. This enabled the notching process to be performed in a state where the electrode sheet (1) was spread out more evenly and flatly overall.
[0076] Figure 10 shows the suction force and / or diameter (D) of the suction holes (210) on both edges. E ) are all of the same degree. Figure 11 shows a case where the suction force of the suction hole (211) of the first row arranged at the outermost side is the largest, and the suction force of the suction hole (211) of the first row is greater than the suction force of the suction hole (212) of the second row. To this end, the diameter (D) of the suction hole (211) of the first row E1 ) is the diameter (D) of the second row of adsorption holes (212). E2 ) may be greater than that. Since this overlaps with what was described above in FIGS. 8 and 9, for a more detailed description, refer to what was described above in FIGS. 8 and 9.
[0077]
[0078] Vertical arrangement of multiple adsorption holes
[0079] Figures 12 to 15 illustrate modified embodiments of Figures 7 and 9 to 11, respectively.
[0080] Similarly, in FIGS. 12 to 15, a plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be provided along the edge of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)) so as to adsorb the edge of the electrode sheet (1). However, in FIGS. 7 and 9 to 11, the plurality of adsorption holes (200) are arranged in the horizontal direction of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)), whereas in FIGS. 12 to 15, the plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be arranged along the vertical direction of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)).
[0081] Referring to FIG. 12, a plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be provided along the edge of the lower plate (112) so as to adsorb the edge of the electrode sheet (1). For example, the plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be arranged along the vertical direction of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)).
[0082] In Fig. 12, it is illustrated that two rows of adsorption holes (200) are provided on each edge of the lower plate (112) (each edge in the vertical direction of the lower die (110)), as an example, with a first row of adsorption holes (231) and a second row of adsorption holes (232).
[0083] In a case where a plurality of suction holes (200) having the same degree of suction force are provided across the whole area of the lower plate (112) (not shown), as shown in the present invention, when the plurality of suction holes (200) are provided to suction both edges (vertical edges) of the area where the electrode sheet (1) is placed on the lower plate (112), an effect occurs in which the electrode sheet (1) is pulled tautly at both vertical edges of the area where the electrode sheet (1) is placed on the lower plate (112). Accordingly, the electrode sheet (1) can be spread more evenly and flatly throughout the area where the electrode sheet (1) is placed on the lower plate (112).
[0084] Meanwhile, the present invention is not limited to what is shown, and the plurality of adsorption holes (200) may be provided in one row or in multiple rows of three or more.
[0085] Fig. 13 is a modified example of Fig. 12, showing a case where the suction levels of multiple suction holes (200) are different.
[0086] In the embodiment of Fig. 13, the suction force of the suction hole (231) of the first row is greater than the suction force of the suction hole (232) of the second row. To this end, the diameter of the suction hole (231) of the first row may be greater than the diameter of the suction hole (232) of the second row.
[0087] Figures 14 and 15 illustrate modified embodiments of Figures 12 and 13, respectively. In the embodiments of Figures 14 and 15, a plurality of suction holes (200) are provided across the entire area of the lower plate (112), and the suction force of the suction holes (230) at both edges of the lower plate (112) is greater than the suction force of the suction holes (240) at the remaining area of the lower plate (112) so that the edges of the electrode sheet (1) are pulled outward to have the effect of stretching the electrode sheet (1) taut. To this end, the diameter of the suction holes (230) at both edges may be greater than the diameter of the suction holes (240) at the remaining area.
[0088] Accordingly, the electrode sheet (1) was pulled outward from the suction holes (230) on both edges with greater suction force, and the electrode sheet (1) was brought into close contact with the lower plate (112) from the suction holes (240) in the remaining area. This enabled the notching process to be performed in a state where the electrode sheet (1) was spread out more evenly and flatly overall.
[0089] In summary, the first row of suction holes (231) and the second row of suction holes (232), which correspond to the suction holes (230) on both edges of the lower plate (112) in FIGS. 12 to 15, are different from the first row of suction holes (211) and the second row of suction holes (212), which correspond to the suction holes (210) on both edges in FIGS. 7 and 9 to 11, respectively, only in the arrangement direction, and the description otherwise is redundant, so refer to the description above in FIGS. 7 and 9 to 11. Similarly, the suction holes (240) on the remaining area of the lower plate (112) in FIGS. 14 and 15 are different from the suction holes (220) on the remaining area of the lower plate (112) in FIGS. 10 and 11, only in the arrangement direction, and the description otherwise is redundant, so refer to the description above in FIGS. 10 and 11.
[0090]
[0091] Horizontal and vertical arrangement of multiple adsorption holes
[0092] Fig. 16 is a modified embodiment of the embodiments described above in Figs. 7 to 15.
[0093] FIG. 16 illustrates a case in which the plurality of adsorption holes (200) described in FIGS. 7, 9 to 11 are arranged in the horizontal direction of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)) and the plurality of adsorption holes (200) described in FIGS. 12 to 15 are arranged along the vertical direction of the lower die (110) (lower plate (112)).
